Try repairing user directory permissions, instructions here:

Probably also worth repairing disk permissions using Disk Utility too.

  • Flash player will not work on my computer, would love advice

I have windows vista.  When I visit a web page that requires flash, it instructs me to download it (even though I'm sure I have it ialready...).  I do so, it says it has downloaded successfully but I still cannot view the website.  I have uninstalled my current version of flash and reinstalled the latest version numerous times.  It even shows up in my list of programs.  But each time I visit a site that uses it, it tells me I need flash to view it.  Very frustrating.  And suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks!

This was very helpful - thank you.  I unchecked "active x filtering" and it seems to be working, under tools in IE.  a simple solution, that may have taken me days to figure out myself!  Hopefully it continues to work from thiis point forward.  Thanks!

  • "Flash Player" will not work on Android 4.0.3!

I recently purchased  new Samsung tablet 2 (10.1) which operates on Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
I have since found out that “Flash Player” will not work on Android 4.0.3
(Ice Cream Sandwich) as adobe is no longer supporting android OS above 4.0
This means I now have many “apps” that I can not us because they require
    “Flash” to operate!
Can you assist with this problem?
Is there a patch I can buy to allow flash to work on Android 4.0.3?

  • Windows media player will not work as no DVD driver

Had to format disk (trojan) & reinstall Windows XP home. Now Windows media player will not work as no DVD Driver, can I download from Toshiba site?

    Hi
Usually the Windows media Player is not able to play DVD movies IF no plug-ins were installed.
To watch DVD movies you can use the programs like WinDVD or PowerDVD.
Such programs were designed especially for the DVD playing!
But you can also visit the Microsoft website and search for plug-ins for Windows Media player.
Then you could download and install it to play DVD with WMP

Do you have a friend with an Intel Mac. If your MacBook and their Mac have firewire ports you can install by Target Disk Mode. You'll need a retail version of SL to do this with any Mac other than a MacBook.
Start up your friend's Mac with your install disk. After you get to the install screen on your friend's Mac connect your MacBook to your friend's Mac in "Target Mode"with a firewire cable http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Then open "Disk Utility" from the "Utilities Menu" on the Menu Bar from the install disk on your friend's Mac. You should see both your MacBook and your friend's Mac hard drives in there. Erase and partition your MacBook drive and then choose that drive when you go back to the install screen. Or install over your existing OS on your drive if you have applications you want to keep.
The only other way is to buy an external DVD drive on eBay. http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=firewire+external+dvd+drive&_sacat=0&LH_BIN=1&_ sop=15&_dmpt=Apple_Laptops&_odkw=usb+external+dvd+drive&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286. c0.m270.l1313 or at MacSales http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/optical-drives/
And of course be sure your Macbook meets the system requirements. To upgrade to Snow Leopard or install Snow Leopard for the first time, you must have a Mac with:
    An Intel processor.
An internal or external DVD drive, or DVD or CD Sharing.
At least 1 GB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended).
A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer.
At least 5 GB of disk space available.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

  • Flash Player will NOT work in useless Windows 8.1

I am now regretting upgrading to Windows 8.1 Flash Player (even after following ALL of the reccomended fixes on the forums) will NOT work in Windows 8.1 It is now clear that there is no official fix for this - if there was, Microsoft would put out an update which would fix the problem. As such, we are left with a bunch of patched-together "maybe this will work" unofficial fixes - of which none work.
As with many others with this problem, I have Windows 8.1, 64 bit system with IE 11. Yes, I have the latest flash player installed. Yes, I can see the bouncing ball or whatever the hell it is in the grey box.. or the clouds moving in the other box. Yes, Shockwave in enabled in manage add-ons. Yes, ActiveX Filtering is not checked under Safety. I have gone through this checklist so many times, my head is spinning. The most annoying part when I "test" to see if the latest Flash version is installed (sigh, of course it is) is this message: "You aren't running IE in Windows 8" Well duuhhh. Of course I'm not. I just upgraded to your stupid 8.1 platform.
So is somebody asleep at the switch at Microsoft? They roll out 8.1 and screw everybody who installs it when it doesn't work properly with Flash? Shouldn't they have tested this first? Why hasn't this problem been fixed yet? It is apparent that I'm not the only one who is frustrated beyond the point of seeing white at this incompetence.
Does anyone know if there is a fix coming out for this outrageous error? Or shall we all just sit back and twiddle our thumbs like the gang at Microsoft?

The problem isn't with Flash Player... It's with Internet Exploder. Pages and sites can't recognize the browser, so there's no way imaginable that they'll recognize the plugins in the browsewr they can';t recognize in the first place.  Microsoft is (and has been) aware of this problem, and their response is one of denial that would make the Obama adminsitration jealous.
"There's nothing wrong with the browser, it's the entire Internet that's messed up." or "It can't be our browser, it's 3.5 billion users' computers that have the problem."
Microsoft says to use "Compatibility View" and pretend you're using something else. I could never stand Microsoft's 110% pure garbage excuse for a browser, and have ALWAYS used something else.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.
Free yourself from Microsoft. You won't regret it.

  • Adobe Flash Player Will Not Work with Safari Mac OS 10.9.2

I have tried numerous times to install Adobe Flash Player for Mac OS 10.9 and get Plug-in error when I try to run it.  Before the suggested update, Flash Player ran fine.  I would not have tried the update except the files on the web site that I am usinf had a symnbol statiing that the later version of Flash Player was required for it to run.
I did what Adobe suggested and removed the plug-in and then reinstalled it. Still does not work.  When is Adobe going to fix it?   I think it was not well researched before the release, and it definately has compatibility issues with Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks
    Thanks,
    Fred

    Hi Mike M,
Thanks for the quick response.  It worked OK after I did this, and I alerted other users in my MUG just in case they have a similar aged Macs.  I hope that the fix for this will be automatic in the next update.

  • Flash Player will not work even upon reinstalling it

    Hello!
I am having quite the time trying to get Adobe Flash Player
to work! Seemingly "out of nowhere", none of the youtube videos of
my nephew were visible on the site any longer, when they had
previously been working just fine. When I went to the page, using
IE7, there was a blank spot where the video should be. However, at
that time, I *was* able to view the video using FireFox. I thought
this was unusual that it would work in Firefox but no longer be
    working in IE7.
I checked to see if javascript was turned on in both browsers
    -- it was. I have javascript enabled in Firefox2 (tools/ options/
content/ enable javascript; under advanced settings "disable or
replace context menus" is checked, although I don't know if this
    applies), and in IE7 (tools/ options/ security/ custom Level/
    scripting/ active scripting/ enable).
Since this didn't seem to be the problem, the only thing I
could think of doing was to uninstall Flash Player. In my Add or
Remove Programs, I saw Adobe Flash Player ActiveX and Adobe Flash
Player Plug-In. I went to Adobe's site, and found a document
entitled "How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and
ActiveX control", which said you need to use an Adobe program for
the uninstall, which I did. I then rebooted the computer. Next I
installed the latest version of Adobe Flash Player ActiveX.
When I viewed the youtube videos, they now showed just fine
    in both IE7 and Firefox.
I closed down the computer and went to bed happy it was
    fixed.
The next morning, upon startup, I was dismayed to find that
the problem had started all over again, although now the video was
no longer viewable in *either* IE7 or Firefox.
In Firefox, I see the message "Hello, you either have
JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player.
Get the latest Flash player." In IE7, I see no message; just a
    blank spot.
Again I double-checked that javascript was turned on in both.
I double-checked my Add or Remove Programs, and I can see the
Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX was installed. (And I knew it to be
working before I shut the computer down.)
I feel like I am going bananas.
Does anyone know what could be going on? Might you have any
insight as to why it would first stop working in one browser, work
in both browsers upon reinstalling it but before turning off the
computer, and then not work in either browser upon starting up the
    computer again?
Thank you so much! I just appreciate your help more than I
    can say!
    Happy day to you!
    Karen

Thanks.  This worked for me, too.
And this is what I used to do the uninstall, so I could re-install from the webpage:
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player.exe
I placed this .exe file in this install directory . . .
    {C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash}
. . . along with a ReadMe file that contained this notation:
    <uninstall_flash_player.exe> was obtained manually from:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/
...and not installed in this directory as part of the Flashplayer install.
This was obtained as part of an attempt to correct Flashplayer suddenly not working in MSIE.
Correcting this problem involved unistalling and re-installing Flash, but uninstalling via the normal Pgm.Accs+Dflts facility did not seem to work correctly; i.e., the subsequent re-intall failed to correct the problem: even though the download webpage indicated a successful install, the Flash animation did not appear. However, using the above .exe file does allow a truly successful subsequent re-install.

  • Charger malfunction. 65V will not work, yet 45V will (long)

okay, so i've had my 17" powerbook g4 since christmas of 2005, and it's been working fine until recently. i've gone through three chargers already, and tomorrow i'm going back to the apple store to see what's wrong. (first broke when the computer fell like a foot off the bed and landed on tha charger, bending it and breaking it, whereas the computer still worked fine, so we just bought a refurbished charger and my computer has been working fine for about a month and a half, until recently)
this is kind of a weird story, but go along with me.
the other day i was playing a game and my computer was plugged in (because the game takes so much from my battery), and it just randomly cut off on me. So i was like... okay, so i just took my uncl'es 45V charger and used that (even though a 65V is needed), just because i was not about to let my computer die and be without music.
so today we go to the apple store, and say we needed to exchange the charger out because the one we had now was busted, so we had to front the difference in getting a new one, and we got it, and i was happy.
so we get home, and i run to plug in my (almost dead) computer, and it's not working, the charger. so i change outlets three times, and nothing. the led light flickers green, then cuts off and dies. so i wait a few minutes and drag it to my uncles computer (ibook g4), and i plug it in (the new 65V charger), and it works and shows his computer as being fully charged. So then I take it and switch it to mine, and the same thing happens--- it flickers, then cuts out. So i try sticking it into my uncles computer, and nothing-- it's dead.
So I would figure that there's something wrong with my charger outlet in my computer, since it's not working, but my uncle's 45V charger works fine on mine, and charges my computer and glows orange showing that it's charging and everything, except it overheats a bit because it's not the required voltage for my computer. So I switch from the 2 prong wall thing, to the 3 prong extended cord, and still nothing. Same thing happens. It works in my uncles computer before it's plugged into my computer, then I plug it into mine, it dies, try my uncles, and it dies again. So I honestly don't know what's up, and tomorrow i'm heading up to an apple store with my computer to show them the problem and see what's happening.
But my question to you guys, would any of you know what happened? Because i'm clearly at a loss. And apple voided my warranty because of the dent near the plug, and it'll cost me like $1200 bucks to get the dent fixed and all that, so eh.
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Welcolme to the Apple discussions.
Charging issues are focused on 3 components: the power adapter, the battery and the logic board. Have you run the Apple hardware test to see if it picks up a problem in the logic board? Insert the OS X DVD that came with your system (it will say AHT Version x.x in small print on the DVD), reboot holding the option key down, choose the Apple hardware test, and follow directions. Does that provide any information?

  • I have a few important add-ons that will not work, yet, with Firefox 4. How easy is it for me to downgrade to 3.6 temporarily until these issues have been resolved?

I really need to downgrade to the previos Firefox version just until a couple of add-ons have been upgraded. How easily can I do this without losing my current settings?

There is no guarantee that the add-ons that currently do not work with Firefox 4 will ever be updated, they may have been discontinued.
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles
