  • I downloaded the BBC iplayer App directly to my ipad

I downloaded the BBC iplayer App directly to my ipad (ie without going though itunes) but although the app appears in the settings functionality it doesn't appear on any of the ipad screen.  What do I need to do?

Assuming that you've checked all your homescreens for it, have you got any app age restrictions in Settings > General > Restrictions (iPlayer has a 12+ rating) ?
If not then you could try a reset and see if it appears after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • My iPhone thinks I'm abroad and won't play BBC iPlayer app

I downloaded the new BBC iPlayer app on Monday.  Tuesday is when I tried to use it but it tells me I'm outside the UK and it won't play.  It tells me the same when I try the web-based iPlayer.
    It works fine over WIFI.
I reset my network settings - no change.
I turned off data roaming  - no change
I checked my IP address (I am Orange), it lists a static IP based in the UK with Orange network details on it.
I have a friend who works for BBC conent and he checked my IP with their iPlayer tool - my IP looks fine to them.
    I called Orange.
I spent half an hour on the phone to a woman who didn't seem to even understand how apps worked. She directed me to a link on the Apple Support pages which doesn't even work.  "They don't deal with 3rd party apps" was the last I was told, despite the fact I'm sure the problem is with the phone not the app itself.
    I am frustrated.
Anyone got any idea why my phone would be showing (to the BBC iPlayer) that I am abroad?
I cannot check the UK specific content for 4oD or ITV Player as they will only run on WIFI, and my WIFI connection does not appear to be the issue.
Could Orange be re-routing outside of the UK and coming back to the UK...and that's what confusing it?
What can I do to fix this?

That's what mine said too when I went direct to their checker.
But I use the Speed Test app and that shows a different IP address, one which links to Orange in the UK.
At the moment it's giving me 31.81.44.53, but that Ip2location site gives me 50.19.92.191. Google tells me I am on 50.16.198.92.
    I am confused and frustrated.
I did several full restores yesterday, several times when the phone restarted it gave US as the defualt locaiton at startup, but this morning when I just did a settings wipe, it gave me the UK, and I thought that had fixed it.  I didn't.
    Very odd.
Gosh I thought I solved it then, one of the sites told me my app Onavo was creating a proxy. Deleting the app didn't help - may have to delete the profile which may be buried elsewhere on the phone. Oh, it's in the General tab under profiles - if you have a profile at all.
Cannot confirm if this works yet as I only have 2G at home but if you have Onavo, I think it's creating a proxy server connection (directing you to the USA). Delete the app, delete the profile and please let me know if it works for you!
Can't be more than 99% certain, but removing my Onavo profile has now given me a UK IP. Should work!

  • BBC iplayer app not working on my N97

Does anyone know why the app has stopped working?
I click on it but it just takes me to a blank page.
Also how I can reload the app?
All the blogs direct me to the iplayer mobile site but once there, there is nowhere to download the app.
    Any help gratefully received, thanks.

I have exactly the same problem. Sorry, so far I cannot offer a solution but I have my suspicions that this occurred with the last update of UK Vodafone branded firmware.
For example Joikuspot also stopped working and a number of clean re-installs failed to fix it.  With Joikuspot however I was able to install a separate new version which works. The redundant preinstall Vodafone version just sits there taking up C Drive space as it is not possible to uninstall it.
I will do my utmost to avoid an operator branded phone in future. Apart from these issues firmware updates are usually many months late, all of this helps tarnish the Nokia image.

  • IPad wont launch bbc iplayer app

Suddenly iplayer and its channel 4 equivalent have stopped working with iPad; icon just 'wobbles' 'and app does not launch. Same experience anyone?thanks bob

perhaps you have to restart your iPad.
Press and hold the Lock button and the Home button  for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Lock button until the Apple logo appears.
    or reinstall the App
    good luck !

  • IPad (3rd gen) losing wifi connection during BBC iPlayer downloads

    Hi,
I am having a strange, app-specific problem with my iPad 3rd generation (wifi only, 64GB) running iOS 6.1.3.
When I use the BBC iPlayer app (version 2.0.5.33) to download a TV show to watch offline, my iPad almost always loses wifi connection a minute or two into the download, and it stays disconnected until I go into Settings > Wifi and select my home network again. If I resume the download in iPlayer, the same issue will typically recur within a minute or two.
I am not having any other connectivity problems with this iPad, and other sizeable downloads (e.g. from iTunes, from the App Store etc) are not having the same issue. Similarly, I can stream live BBC iPlayer content without issue - it is just the iPlayer downloads that seem to create this condition (which then effects the whole iPad / all other running apps).
I have tried to "forget this network", resetting network settings and restoring my entire iPad - none of these have stopped the issue. Interestingly, during restore of the iPad I received ugly BIOS-esque messages relating to AppleBCMWLANCore, which have disappeared after a hard reboot (power + home buttons together) - does this indicate a problem with the iPad hardware itself?
Anyone else experiencing something similar? Any suggestions to fix this? Or am I dependent on the BBC updating the app?
    Cheers,
    James

    Hey James,
I would try out standard third party application troubleshooting and see if that resolves the Wi-Fi issue. :
    1. Update your device software
    2. Check for app updates
    3. Install another app from the App Store
    4. Restart the application
    5. Restart your device
    6. Reinstall the affected application
For more info on each step, check out the full article:
iOS: Troubleshooting applications purchased from the App Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1702
If none of those steps work, then you would want to contact the developer of the application for further assistance.
    Regards,
    David

  • Bbc iplayer won't in firefox but will in dolphin

i have a tablet bbc iplayer will play in dolphin but not in firefox. i have followed the instructions onbbc and it still won,t work.

Hi, I don't know if this will help but I get the BBC iplayer website working in full desktop mode on my Android tablet. I think where you are going wrong is by using the BBC iplayer app with firefox.
What I discovered is that if you open up Firefox without opening up BBC iplayer app and go straight to the BBC iplayer website, You'll will be greeted with a warning that your device is not able to support BBC iplayer (do not threat.) Just click on the Firefox browser settings (the 3 dots at the top right of the browser) then scroll down the menu to Request desktop site. It will then open the full desktop version for tablet.
You'll find the video quality will be greatly improved to the full desktop resolution. I also noticed that using the BBC iplayer app, compared to the full desktop version of iplayer, there was less video content available. Hope this has been helpful to Android tablet users.
    Hope this helps

  • BBC iPlayer - This content doesnt seem to be working

Hi all, I have tried so many fixes but cant seem to fix the problem
When I log into my user and go on the BBC iPlayer website and click on any video, it loads perfectly fine.
However, when my mum logs onto her user account she cant play any videos.
The message that comes up for ANY video is 'This content doesnt seem to be working. Try again later'
This message never shows up on my side of the computer.
We have an iMac 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo,
    4 GB RAM,
Mac OS X Lion Version 10.7.4,
The newest version of Flash installed (obviously because it works on my side)
The newest version of Safari installed
I have tried removing Flash from the computer then reinstaling it.
I also tried repairing disk permissions through Disk Utility.
I even tried deleting the Safari preferences in Library.
    I tried reinstalling Safari
I tried installing 'click to flash' to see if it would convert it to HTML5 but that didnt work. So I deleted the extension.
It will load fine in Chrome & Firefox. So we can assume with this that its a problem with my mums Safari.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this or has anyone had this happen to them?
I do realise the easiest solution would be to just watch BBC iPlayer stuff on another browser or download the BBC iPlayer App and watch videos through there but thats a hassle when it used to work in Safari and actually works in Safari on my side of the computer.
    Thanks in Advance.

Never mind, after all that and searching loads of forums & discussions it turned out that it was little Snitch and its 'plugin process' turned off.
switched it to allow and its working now.

  • BBC iPlayer 'RESTARTING' problem???

Does anyone else have the problem of the BBC iPlayer 'restarting' when viewing a catch up program?
Ever since I updated to IOS 6, the latest BBC iPlayer App (ver 2.0) keeps restarting after a varied amount of time making it unusable. I have tried to contact the BBC over this matter but all I receive are electronic responses saying no individual reply to the problem can be given. I've maintained a 'watch' of the BBC iPlayer website but no updated information is given by them, or indeed any admission that there is any problem with their latest software.
All the other TV Apps (ITV Player, 4oD, Demand 5 & Sky Go) ALL work beautifully without any glitches so why can't the BBC do the same with their app? Over 90% of the 'reviewers' (since 19th Sept 2012) of the App at the App Store are unhappy with the software.
If anyone can be of any help it would be greatly appreciated. I have already done a reinstall of the app.
    Thank you in anticipation.
    iPad 2 (32gb, 3G, IOS 6)
BBC iPlayer App (ver 2.0 dated 4th Sept 2012 running via Home WiFi BT Infinity broadband)

Ok, I've tried everything.  I've reinstalled I've updated with the new 6.01, thought that might help, but nothing.  I can no longer use the app.  Accessing via the website on safari is not that user friendly and doesn't hold the same amount of content.
One thing though, it hasn't so far happened when streaming radio.  It may just be that the radio programmes I listen to are short and it's not as frequent a use.
Anyway it's very annoying but as it doesn't seem to be a widespread problem and therefore I don't expect a fix.
If you do manage to sort it out please post again.
    Thanks

  • BBC IPlayer - insufficient bandwidth message

When attempting to watch programs on on an Iphone or Ipad using the BBC Iplayer app, I select the program I wish to watch, press play, the screen goes black and the icon goes around until I get the message Insufficient bandwidth. This happens on every Iphone (4 or 5's using IOS 6 or 7) I have tried.I am able to download the program and watch it.
I am using a Draytek 2830n router on a 100mb fibre connection, I have sufficient bandwidth!
My ISP provider brought around a Samsung smart phone logged onto the same router it vworked perfectly. If I use a Mac laptop it works perfectly. If I use a Windows laptop it works perfectly It is only Iphones or Ipads that fail. This has been going on for about 1 month now. I took one of the many Iphone's outside the building and they work perfectly on 3G or logged onto alternative wifi networks.
The only other clue is that I also have Sky Go on one iphone and that says it's offline yet works outside the building.
It must be the router but am | at a loss to know what setting it is. Can anyone help?
    Thanks, Smudger

    Hi Etmoid
Sorry what I didn't explain is that I can log the phone(s) and IPad onto the router as you describe and browse the web, listen to radio through the Tunein app, watch "TV catchup" live TV and all the things you would expect from a wireless device. It is just the BBC Iplayer and Sky Go apps that are not functioning.as described in my original posting.
    Thanks, Smudger

  • BBC iplayer taking up 3gb?

The BBC iplayer app on my iPad 2 is taking up 3GB space, despite the app itself only being 30mb, and I can't work out how to reduce it. Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks.

I should say I don't have any downloaded programmes.

  • Problem playing BBC iPlayer archived radio content

Hi! I was wondering if anyone could help with a really annoying problem I have.
    I have a Slate 7 2800 Build Number v1.05.14 running Android 4.1.1
I can use a Wi-Fi connection to watch archived TV content from the BBC iPlayer site, and I can listen to live BBC Radio via the BBC website - but when I attempt to listen to any archived Radio content on the iPlayer site, I get the error message:
"Programme unavailable. Please check your network connection (3024)" which then changes to a "This content doesn't seem to be working. Please check your network connectivity and try later (2004)" error.
Obviously, my network connectivity is not a problem, as it plays the archived TV content without issue!!
    Any ideas?

Hi LimeGreeny, welcome to the HP Forums.
To clarify the difficulty, are you using a web browser, or the BBC iPlayer app? If it is the app, I can recommend general app troubleshooting steps, and if that fails you would have to contact the manufacturer of that app for better support.
The first step for Android troubleshooting is to completely power down, and turn it back on. To power down, hold the power button for 10+ seconds, until you get the option to turn it off. When you turn it back on, and its ready to go, try to recreate the error.
If it does the same thing, the next thing to try is safe mode. This will let us know if there is a conflict with something else. When you get the option to power down, hold your finger down on the option, until you are presented an option to restart in safe mode. Like before, when it comes back up, try to recreate the issue.
The final step is to uninstall and reinstall the apps.

  • Dowload BBC Iplayer movies to your Lumia handset

    Mine is the 1520
As Lumia users will know, the BBC Iplayer App is missing the download program button in Windows mobile. Downloading to the laptop and copying over to the phone wont work for abvious reasons.
However there is a way to do, for anyone interested, I followed the youtube tutorial and it works a treat, doesnt cost you anything and the software required is not rammed full of adware or any other type of bottage.
If you want this feature, I do as I travel on trains quite a bit, then here's the link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HFZWDFJyws

  • How can I download TV programmes from the BBC iplayer. Is there an app for ipad that does this?

I have an ipad 2. I have BBC iplayer. The programme stops and starts as the broadband cannot cope with the streming. The solution is to download the programme from the BBC iplayer and into the ipad 2 for viewing later without all that mucking about with the streaming bit.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to download a programme from the BBC iplayer into an ipad 2? If there is an application that does this what is it?
    Many thanks to you all.

There is no iPad app to do this - the BBC's television license agreement wouldn't allow it.
There are desktop programs which will download programmes from BBC iPlayer which you can then sync to the iPad via iTunes, but technically they also operate against the terms of the iPlayer license. Google will help you find them.

  • I have purchased an IPAD 2 - everytime I try and update or download a new app i get e.g.  'BBC iplayer available to download when you go in to the itunes store on computer" Why cant I download direct?

I have purchased an IPAD 2 - everytime I try and update or download a new app i get e.g.  'BBC iplayer available to download when you go in to the itunes store on computer" Why cant I download direct?
I have an ipod touch and have no similar issues - is this an itunes account setup issue?

Have you tried logging out of your account via Settings > Store and tapping on your account id on the right-hand side, and the logging back in to see if that makes any difference ?
You could also try a reset and see if you can then download them after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
A third option is to download one of the updates to your computer's iTunes and connect your iPad to it and sync it across, and then see if you can download the other apps/updates directly on the iPad.
