BBC IPlayer Radio

I am very dissapointed that the BBC have removed IPlayer Radio from the Youview platform. It was such a convenient way to listen to shows that you have not been able to listen to live.
It was one of my main reasons for choosing to go with BT Youview just a few months back but I guess it is not BT's fault.
I only have a desktop computer so listening to catchup radio in the lounge is now impossible.
Does anyone know if this is a permanent removal?

Agree - with the BBC looking to implement cost savings  it look like a pemanent decision.
"We decided not to include radio within this new version of BBC iPlayer. The low usage of radio on big-screen devices means it is not cost-effective to develop and support. You can continue to enjoy live radio on all Freeview and Freesat devices and live and on demand radio via BBC iPlayer Radio on computers, tablets and smart phones " ................................Marcus Parnwell iExecutive Product Manager, BBC iPlayer on Connected TVs _    (march 2014)

    Other browsers are all fine(Safari,IE,Chrome)
The iPlayer webpage is all there but the flash video player is black. The OS is MS Windows XP Professional 32-bit SP3.

Also, when the flash video does not show up it displays the error that I do not have the current flash player. The problem is that I do have the current flash player that actually plays flash from another section of the website.
    Forgot to add that earlier.

  • Problem playing BBC iPlayer archived radio content

Hi! I was wondering if anyone could help with a really annoying problem I have.
    I have a Slate 7 2800 Build Number v1.05.14 running Android 4.1.1
I can use a Wi-Fi connection to watch archived TV content from the BBC iPlayer site, and I can listen to live BBC Radio via the BBC website - but when I attempt to listen to any archived Radio content on the iPlayer site, I get the error message:
"Programme unavailable. Please check your network connection (3024)" which then changes to a "This content doesn't seem to be working. Please check your network connectivity and try later (2004)" error.
Obviously, my network connectivity is not a problem, as it plays the archived TV content without issue!!
    Any ideas?

Hi LimeGreeny, welcome to the HP Forums.
To clarify the difficulty, are you using a web browser, or the BBC iPlayer app? If it is the app, I can recommend general app troubleshooting steps, and if that fails you would have to contact the manufacturer of that app for better support.
The first step for Android troubleshooting is to completely power down, and turn it back on. To power down, hold the power button for 10+ seconds, until you get the option to turn it off. When you turn it back on, and its ready to go, try to recreate the error.
If it does the same thing, the next thing to try is safe mode. This will let us know if there is a conflict with something else. When you get the option to power down, hold your finger down on the option, until you are presented an option to restart in safe mode. Like before, when it comes back up, try to recreate the issue.
The final step is to uninstall and reinstall the apps.

  • Which is the earliest generation iPod touch that will sucessfully stream BBC iPlayer listen again programmes wirelessly to a dock?

My second generation touch runs IOS 4.2.1 and will no longer update. What is the earliest generation that will run the necessary software to stream radio programmes wirelessly via the BBC iPlayer "listen again" facility?

According to this wikipedia article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_version_history, you need an iPod Touch 3rd generation or iPad 1st generation as minimum to run iOS 5.1. However, if you are going to get a new (or newish) device, I would recommend getting a more recent model for a bit of future proofing - the next time the BBC updates the app it will probably raise the minimum version of iOS too.

  • BBC iPlayer no longer works on iPhone (UK)

Have been able to access and play BBC iPlayer content without any problem for ages but it has stopped working.
When I tap the click to play button it will play the sound but video will no longer load - just sits there on splash screen with Play button greyed out. Is this a known bug or a deliberate change by BBC to nobble the service?
Cannot find anything anywhere about this issue so maybe its just me. Javascript is enabled in mobile Safari settings and as far as I can see nothing has changed.

Outside of the UK, the BBC is a commercial organisation and creates a few extra paid for Apps for the international market, including "BBC Listener" which we don't get in the UK. However, all the BBC Radio Stations and TV Stations/programs are available for free on the web in the UK (and the radio stations in most third-party radio streaming apps).

  • BBC iPlayer just stopped working on N97 - 29/04/10

    N97 Firmware v21.0.045
Just last night BBC iPlayer stopped working for me has been working every other day (and have used it every day for last week or so) and never had any problems in the past.
Symptom; app a bit slow to start and a bit slow to load up the images then whatever Telly or Radio programme I select when I press on  the "Click to Play" icon nothing happens at all and makes no difference with repressing, phone is registering the press as I`m getting haptic feedback.
Uninstalled and reloaded from OVI and tried old version there, upgraded newly downloaded version from OVI both via the app itself (after uninstalling every time) and updated via BBC webpage and downloaded whole app new version from BBC web page. All without joy, the only thing that I think I`ve done or changed routine in last couple months is that yesterday I downloaded Steve`s Phones Show on my phone last night and watched it on phone using the video player and then deleted the download. I mention this as I think iPlayer uses the Realplayer engine to plahy stuff and it seems as if this is not connecting or has had a routing changed somehow  or is hung up doingh something else (have tried playing video recorded using phone without problem and have no other video files). Phone is short on C: between 5-12MB but has been like that for six weeks and app worked before.
Anyone similar experience or any thoughts? - did search the history but couldn`t see any similar probs or hints. Really Really really don`t want to reset it and rebuild it.
    Thx

At least when media has gone a bit ditsy on my s60 I have found that deleting these files on C-Drive has helped.
    delete:
    MdfPluginArchive.txt
    plugin_archive.txt
There is sometime one called Hxmeta.... or something like that...
And then restart phone. Media player will re-create the files.
Not sure if these are exactly the same on N97, but at least they are there on most others that I have used.

  • Why no BBC iPlayer?

I'd been plugging my iPhone into my tv to watch the BBC iPlayer, and were frustrated that even the new Apple TV didn't included it. However I assumed that the BBC simply weren't willing to work with companies like apple to include it in devices like the apple tv.
Then I had to buy a new tv in a hurry so I hadn't looked into it thoroughly. I was amazed when the sales assistant said said a lot of people choose Sony rather than panasonic because of the iplayer. Enough said, we got a Sony.
How did apple miss the boat this much? They should have been the first to offer services like this. If it's now being built into tvs then apple are too late.
Apple really should start taking the apple tv more seriously. It may be impossible to make it perfect because of difficulties working with proprietary regional tv services, but there is a vast amount the could be doing to make it better.

I personally feel there's a rather blinkered approach to AppleTV which is far too US centric.
In the US Netflix and TV Show Rentals may be worthwhile selling points but are not available for most international customers, which seriously detracts from it's international appeal as there are no localised services to make is preferable to many other devices other than itunes integration.
YouTube access on a device is old hat, even if it appeals.
Even in US many devices have Netflix access, so AppleTV does not do anything unique there.
The established players in the AV market all seem to be releasing their BluRay players/STBs with iPlayer access, YouTube etc, many TVs have these features built in so without competing features and a heavily itunes Store/iTunes centric model which many don't want to use, AppleTV will have a problem getting a foothold without something unique. Look at how many DVD/BluRay players simply offer USB playback of a variety of formats - average consumers like these features yet Apple won't allow you to directly connect a USB drive even if it were technically feasible.
The reality is there are probably far too many services like iPlayer/4od etc globally for Apple to support all of them individually unless they work via a common core web technology i.e HTML 5 as we won't see flash on AppleTV.
Apple presumably just does not have the resources currently in AppleTV development to target each country with tailor made video services.
So what does Apple have up it's sleeve?
Airplay could really open things up if you could stream iPlayer from your phone/iPad, but it still needs that portable device - given mass sales of iPhones/iPads it's a big potential market for AppleTV as an accessory.
Secondly the new AppleTV is iOS based so it will be feasible to allow all sorts of plugin apps that may be popular in different countries, but it would presumably rely on people like the BBC creating these plugins and would they do so to work on targetted devices - given that they did enable HTML5 based players and if we think of downloadable podcasts for many radio shows, it might happen.

  • BBC iPlayer doesn't seem to work on new software

    Hi All,
I now have the new software after it updated last night. Some good things like the TV guide, some bad things like trying to find progarmmes and the text is hard to read. But the box is working well and hasn't re-booted yet. Overall I like while some family members prefer the old software.
We tried the BBC iplayer earlier and it didn't seem to work at all when we clicked on a programme. I wondered whether this was a known issue? Nothing would play despite pressing the enter button on the remote control a number of times.
    Have we done something wrong?
    Thanks for your help
    Gf

No it works albeit slowly. You have to allow each page to load fully before going to the next. Try that method. If that fails, reboot your box

  • BBC iPlayer 'RESTARTING' problem???

Does anyone else have the problem of the BBC iPlayer 'restarting' when viewing a catch up program?
Ever since I updated to IOS 6, the latest BBC iPlayer App (ver 2.0) keeps restarting after a varied amount of time making it unusable. I have tried to contact the BBC over this matter but all I receive are electronic responses saying no individual reply to the problem can be given. I've maintained a 'watch' of the BBC iPlayer website but no updated information is given by them, or indeed any admission that there is any problem with their latest software.
All the other TV Apps (ITV Player, 4oD, Demand 5 & Sky Go) ALL work beautifully without any glitches so why can't the BBC do the same with their app? Over 90% of the 'reviewers' (since 19th Sept 2012) of the App at the App Store are unhappy with the software.
If anyone can be of any help it would be greatly appreciated. I have already done a reinstall of the app.
    Thank you in anticipation.
    iPad 2 (32gb, 3G, IOS 6)
BBC iPlayer App (ver 2.0 dated 4th Sept 2012 running via Home WiFi BT Infinity broadband)

Ok, I've tried everything.  I've reinstalled I've updated with the new 6.01, thought that might help, but nothing.  I can no longer use the app.  Accessing via the website on safari is not that user friendly and doesn't hold the same amount of content.
One thing though, it hasn't so far happened when streaming radio.  It may just be that the radio programmes I listen to are short and it's not as frequent a use.
Anyway it's very annoying but as it doesn't seem to be a widespread problem and therefore I don't expect a fix.
If you do manage to sort it out please post again.
    Thanks

  • BBC iPlayer not working on ipad 1 through ATV

I know this has been brought up before but I can't find a straight answer. I have an original iPad 1 with OS 5.1.1.  I installed the UK version of BBC iPlayer (via the UK itunes store) and went out and bought a new AppleTV device. I installed the ATV and did the update, connected it correctly and tested I can AirPlay youtube etc. This all works.
I connect to the UK via a VPN to access UK content (using the iPlayer) and I can watch and stream live TV, radio etc on the iPad, no problem. When I try and airplay TV content (live or downlaoded) it comes up with an Error Message: Content could not be loaded at this time. Please try again later.
Can anyone shed any light on this? It seems wierd that the BBC radio portion of the iplayer works with Airplay. It's almost as the BBC video stream is not compatibale. Ive tried contacting the BBC iPlayer tech people but I got a generated reply saying "we're sorry you are experiencing missing downloaded content". Got that wrong.
    thanks for any help. Cheers!

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

  • BBC IPlayer - insufficient bandwidth message

When attempting to watch programs on on an Iphone or Ipad using the BBC Iplayer app, I select the program I wish to watch, press play, the screen goes black and the icon goes around until I get the message Insufficient bandwidth. This happens on every Iphone (4 or 5's using IOS 6 or 7) I have tried.I am able to download the program and watch it.
I am using a Draytek 2830n router on a 100mb fibre connection, I have sufficient bandwidth!
My ISP provider brought around a Samsung smart phone logged onto the same router it vworked perfectly. If I use a Mac laptop it works perfectly. If I use a Windows laptop it works perfectly It is only Iphones or Ipads that fail. This has been going on for about 1 month now. I took one of the many Iphone's outside the building and they work perfectly on 3G or logged onto alternative wifi networks.
The only other clue is that I also have Sky Go on one iphone and that says it's offline yet works outside the building.
It must be the router but am | at a loss to know what setting it is. Can anyone help?
    Thanks, Smudger

    Hi Etmoid
Sorry what I didn't explain is that I can log the phone(s) and IPad onto the router as you describe and browse the web, listen to radio through the Tunein app, watch "TV catchup" live TV and all the things you would expect from a wireless device. It is just the BBC Iplayer and Sky Go apps that are not functioning.as described in my original posting.
    Thanks, Smudger

  • New version of Firefox is hanging when trying to play a file from the BBC iPlayer

When trying to click on the 'Play' button on the BBC iPlayer site http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/radio/categories/drama, Firefox hangs and does not allow me to click on anything else on any of the open tabs.
If I use the task master to close Firefox and then try to reopen it, I get a message saying that it is already open. Only restarting the computer will allow me to start it again.

do some working around, remove the old version, download the latest version from mozilla official, and do the new install, and install the addons. update problems are more than you can think over, so just do a new complete for sure. update sometimes is really time wasting......

  • Firefox won't run BBC iPlayer when using Netbook with XP and recommended Flash Player.

On my Netbook running XP and a broadband connection, Firefox won't run BBC iPlayer even though it has had the Flash Player upgraded as recommended. The player stalls and won't stream or start a menu for streaming the "live" content from the Radio Station.
The problem doesn't exist when using Google Chrome as an alternative to Firefox. So this is obviously a Firefox incompatibility problem with Flash Player

That's what mine said too when I went direct to their checker.
But I use the Speed Test app and that shows a different IP address, one which links to Orange in the UK.
At the moment it's giving me 31.81.44.53, but that Ip2location site gives me 50.19.92.191. Google tells me I am on 50.16.198.92.
    I am confused and frustrated.
I did several full restores yesterday, several times when the phone restarted it gave US as the defualt locaiton at startup, but this morning when I just did a settings wipe, it gave me the UK, and I thought that had fixed it.  I didn't.
    Very odd.
Gosh I thought I solved it then, one of the sites told me my app Onavo was creating a proxy. Deleting the app didn't help - may have to delete the profile which may be buried elsewhere on the phone. Oh, it's in the General tab under profiles - if you have a profile at all.
Cannot confirm if this works yet as I only have 2G at home but if you have Onavo, I think it's creating a proxy server connection (directing you to the USA). Delete the app, delete the profile and please let me know if it works for you!
Can't be more than 99% certain, but removing my Onavo profile has now given me a UK IP. Should work!

  • BBC Iplayer keeps stalling

Over the last couple of weeks whenever I am watching anything on BBC Iplayer it stalls after around 10 minutes. First the screen freezes and flickers and then the BT Vision  box turns off and takes around 10 minutes to re-set itself.
I never have a problem with on demand programmes or recording, only the Iplayer.
    It's very frustrating.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
    Thanks.

That's the old software and there is known issue with the iPlayer, once you get upgraded it is a very different iPlayer and it works well

  • BBC iPlayer keeps stopping

I use the BBC iPlayer to stream live radio on my HTC Android phone using our wireless network. It's always worked well in the past with my previous ISP and router, and using mobile Internet, but since joining BT last week, I only get about a minute's streaming audio over the wireless connection, and then it drops out and cannot resume by itself. I can keep reloading the page for another minute's listening, but it's hardly ideal!
I have Home Hub 3 with the latest firmware. Is there something I need to check in the Home Hub settings, do you think?

I would try downloading inssider3 (istumbler if MAC) and then run it. This will show the broadcasting networks round about you and their channels including your own. If you then enter your router and change your wireless channel to a free or less congested channel. A fixed channel mat also help your phone
you can also try changing the hub wireless from b/g/n to just b/g
