BBC Radio 4 Widget

Hi
I am located in Seattle WA USA. I have set up a wireless network using AirPort Express. I can listen to BBC radio 4 on the computer by means of the BBC4 widget. I can stream (CD & iTunes) music over the wireless network however, I can not stream BBC radio 4 over the network using the BBC4 widget. Anybody have an idea as to what I am doing wrong?
Thanks
Dan
iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I believe that iTunes is the only program that can currently stream using AirTunes over AirPort Express. Instead of using the widget you would need to be receiving the BBC stream with iTunes to get what you want to work.

  • Sound disappeared in Safari and BBC Radio Widget

Two days ago, without warning, the sound disappeared from both Safari and my BBC Radio Widget. All other sound on the computer is fine and if I play an MP3 through Safari it will play but otherwise there is silence. (Problem was discovered by our 5 year-old who was disappointed that there was no sound coming from the CBeebies websites!).
Have checked all other sound options and everything is in order.
Went to local Mac re-seller and they shrugged their shoulders and said try here.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for any help.

    You're welcome.
If there is a preference file associate with the widget, move it to the trash before you reinstall a new copy. The preference file will be name widget-com.(name assigned to widget).plist. You can try a search in spotlight on look in your User Library>Preferences folder.

  • BBC radio widget

I have used this for sometime with Tiger and was able to exit from the dashboard and use applications whilst listening to the radio- I have found that with Leopard whilst the widget works it is only possible with dashboard open - as soon as I open another app the connection is lost I have Real player 11.0 installed .
Has anyone else experienced similar problems or found a way around it - my only other thought is to listen directly from the BBC webpage - Is it time for a rewrite of the BBC radio widget since it has not been updated since Tiger

According to iTunes help you can manually add an audio stream as follows:
    Connecting to an Internet broadcast
If you know the Internet address (URL) of a live (streamed) broadcast, you can connect to it using iTunes.
To connect to an Internet broadcast:
Choose Advanced > Open Audio Stream.
Enter the full URL of the file you want to listen to. For example:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/sample.mp3
    If this works, why wait?

  • Web clip widget from bbc radio - cannot delete it.

    Hi Community,
I have an issue with my dashboard - hope you guys can help me out:
I tried the web clip widget feature with a web player of bbc radio, but I never really made it work, so since a couple of weeks now I try to delete it again. When I try to access my Dashboard it instantly redirects me to a browser window with the cookie website (http://cookie.radioplayer.co.uk/cm/lp/s) of bbc.
As it instantly redirects me OFF the dashboard - I cant click on the - button below, nor am I fast enough to click alt and the X on the widget.
It also doesnt appear in the library/widgets folder, so Im screwed. -.-
    Someone with an idea?
Passively accessing the Dashboard - something like Safe Mode - is available? I mean accessing it without loading/updating the widgets?
    Thanks for the help
    Cheers
    Alex

    Hi Alex
I believe the BBC recently changed the way they code the radio widget, making it impossible to remain in the Dashboard. But, as you've found, the actual widget isn't in the Widgets folder.
The only way you can remove it is to trash your preferences. Go to the home Library folder, then Preferences, and trash com.apple.dashboard.plist and com.apple.dashboard.client.plist. Immediately reboot.
You might want to look at RadioAunty for an alternative way to access BBC radio stations.

  • BBC Radio Player no longer works with Airport Express

This weekend I've been unable to get connected to the BBC Radio Player (from http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio). This has worked for the past year, and suddenly stopped.
I have narrowed the problem down to the airport express. Radio streaming works without a hitch when I plug in the ethernet cable direct to either mac, or when I connect to another local Wi-Fi connection. But when I use Airport Express, the radio streaming always times-out.
I even set up one of the computers to share internet over the airport, and was easily able to stream the radio connection to the other computer: so the airport cards themselves are working perfectly.
I wondered if anyone else had the same problem. I've noticed it since I upgraded to 10.4.3 and included the 2005-01 Airport Update, though I didn't notice the problem for several days (I did no streaming in that time).
I've tried downgrading to Airport 4.2, and even Airport Express Firmware 6.1.1, but nothing has solved the problem. There isn't an obvious setting I've missed - is there?
If anyone else can stream BBC Radio with all the recent updates applied through Airport Express, I would be interested in hearing from them...

Well, I found the answer to my problem. I'll add it here, in case someone else ever has the same problem.
My Speedtouch modem was set to distribute DHCP addresses. But my Airport Express was ALSO set to do this. This had the strange effect of allowing everything to work, apart from Real Player radio/video streams. I have no idea why this was the only effect.
The solution was to set the Airport Express to do nothing, and let the modem do it all. Now both computers can stream radio at the same time, and everything is fine. But it took many hours to find the problem.

  • I am trying to listen BBC radio news from BBC App, but on pressing the button I always get the error "there was an error playing this radio feed". What is the source of this error and how can I remove it?

I am trying to listen BBC radio news from BBC App, but on pressing the button "live radio" I always get the error "there was an error playing this radio feed". What is the source of this error and how can I remove it?

That is probably just a generic error message and you might not ever know what is causing it. Assuming that you have been able to play live radio with the app in the past (I know nothing about the app) and assuming that all other Internet related functions (Safari, email, etc.) are working properly on your iPad, quit the app completely and reboot your iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that fails to resolve the issue, you might want to reboot your router, unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.

  • Audio samples on BBC Radio 1 Top 40 charts not working in Firefox

    Hi..
I'm having trouble playing music samples on the BBC Radio 1 UK Top 40 web page:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/singles
There is a play icon for each song but when pressed, an exclamation mark appears. This happens for all the songs. I've tried running FF in Safe Mode but that didn't solve things. I'm able to listen without any problems using IE as well as Chrome but I'd rather just use FF.
I'm using FF v36.0.1, although this problem has been present for a while. Windows 7 x64 with SP1 and all updates.
Any advice or suggestions would be great.
    Thanks :)
Just to add the other BBC news/radio/sports/video players appear to be working as normal on FF...it's just these short snippets which aren't co-operating.

It is an MP3 clip served using the content type audio/mpeg. If you use this test page, can you play the MP3 clip: http://hpr.dogphilosophy.net/test/
Firefox doesn't have the built-in ability to decode MPEG media. Instead, it uses Media Foundation (part of Windows) or if that isn't available, DirectShow (an older Windows technology). These are enabled by default, but sometimes are disabled by users who prefer to download MP3 media instead of playing it in the browser.
You can check the settings here:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''media''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) If the '''media.directshow.enabled''' preference is bolded and user set to false, double-click it to switch it back to true.
    (4) If the '''media.windows-media-foundation.enabled''' preference is bolded and user set to false, double-click it to switch it back to true.
If you changed these settings, does that make any difference?

  • BBC Radio on iTunes - Sorry, I know this question has been asked a lot

    Hi all,
I'm having trouble searching the forum for an answer, so I'll pose the question which I'm sure has been answered many times in the past.
The BBC's audio streams are fantastic. Now that I've installed the "Remote" on my iPod Touch, I'm keen to listen to their streams in iTunes rather than the BBC iPlayer.
Is it possible to add any of their streams to iTunes? At minimum, the Worldservice?
    Steve

I have also wondered about this. Want to hear the world service without opening RealPlayer or Safari. Tried to open a stream with the adress from RealPlayer, but that didn't work. Maybe iTunes doesn't support RealAudio? Also tried the adresse you get when opening a stream from BBC Radio's homepage, but that didn't work either. This stream should be in windows media format. I have got Flip for Mac installed and updated. Any ideas out there?

  • Why isn't BBC Radio 4 on itunes radio anymore?

Also, is there any way of listening to BBC World Service radio in itunes?
    Thanks

No idea why, but got round this by adding the R4 stream - http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r4_aaclca.pls works fine!
World Service is here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/meta/tx/nb/live/eneuk.pls

I used to be able to open BBc Radio 2 via the 'Listen' link with a left click of the mouse button, this nolonger works, I now have to right click the link and 'open link in a new tab'

  • BBC Radio iPlayerwill not work with latest version of Firefox.

I have updated all necessary software (Flashplayer, etc.) and am forced to use Internet Explorer to listen to BBC Radio. Earlier versions of Firefox do not have this problem. I am not a computer programer, just a user. I have used Firefox for years and been able to listened to BBC Radio for years. I've read all the advice on various Firefox fora and not found anything useful in solving this problem. It seems to be a problem intrinsic to the latest version of Firefox itself. Will this problem be fixed in the near future? It seems to have been going on for the better part of a year in both the US and UK. If not, why not?
My expertise is in chemistry, not computers. I need a browser that works. I'd like that browser to be Firefox, but I don't have any more time to spend on trying to fix this problem. Using two different browsers is not working for me. Please fix this.

Before I suggest you to revert back to Firefox 28.
    Try this
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems?esab=a&s=troubleshooting&r=3&as=s#w_5-reinstall-firefox here].
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u>
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.
