BBDS v7.0.0.43 requires MS Vis C++ 2008 SP1

New BBDS v7.0.0.43 requires MS Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistrubutable Pkg.
BUT in checking into this download from the Microsoft Download Center, I noted a MS message there stating "a security issue has been identified that could allow an attacker to compromise your Windows-based system with Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable package."
Don't think I will make this BBDS update, given this warning and possible risk. Think I will wait for the next BBDS version - and w/o this risk!!

I think you may have mis-interpreted the warning - the SP1 update was supposed to fix the vulnerability. However, even after downloading & installing the update, the BBdesktop software still stops with the same error message. If I were you, I'd check back in a few days to see if a BB tech has posted a fix.
I'm having the exact same problem - I even downloaded the update from Microsoft 3 times and I still get the error message. The last few updates of BBdesktop have been problematic for me - I had to skip the last one because the sync kept on crashing. My loyalty to the brand is beginning to falter....

What do you mean by 'my iTunes id is not working' ? Of you mean that it's disabled then you might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password'
You might then need to log out of your account on your iOS deviced by tapping on your id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Store on iOS 6+) and then log back in so as to 'refresh' the account on them.
If that doesn't fix it then you might need to contact iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

In terms of creating a new account, there are instructions on this page for how to create one without giving credit card details : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534 - the instructions won't work with existing accounts, and any content that you bought/downloaded with your existing acocunt will remain tied to that existing account.

I am trying to communicate with an Agilent HP 6613C Power Supply via GPIB and LabVIEW 7.0 on a machine with OS Win2000Pro. When I try to run any of the VIs (which contain a "call library function node) pertaining to the instrument , I receive the following error:
"Error -1073807202 occurred at hp661x Initialize.vi
Possible reason(s):
Driver Status: (Hex 0xBFFF009E) instrumentHandle was zero. Was the hp661x_init() successful?"
In the LavVIEW help, I found that this error translates into the Subject of this message. Can anyone tell me what can I do about this?

Hello Dennis,
I have been using LabVIEW for about a year but this is my first time setting up a GPIB interface.
Max says that VISA may not be installed properly. Under my "Devices and Interfaces" it says "VISA Error". I have reinstalled the LV 7.0 Device drivers and reinstalled the NI-488.2 software but it still has the same problem.
What would be the easiest way to determine what the problem with my VISA is, and correct it?

BBDesktop not installing: requires MS Visual C++ 2008 redistributable to be installed

I am trying to download this to my new computer and it wont install giving me the above error.
It is installed and i even reinstalled, restarted and tried several times.
I can't install it.

I am getting the same message, though I have multiple 2008 Visual C++ programs under my Windows 7 "Programs and Features". I have been unable to get Desktop Ver. 6.0.2.44 to install.

1.VISA Write is equivalent to a GPIB write except the VISA Write returns a VISA Reference Out that is much easier to use. You pass that to the next VISA function instead of wiring a GPIB address to all.This will make your blockdiagram cleaner.
2.portability:-VISA supports GPIB, Serial, Ethernet, USB, PXI, VXI, and PCI. So, with a single piece of code, you can support all of the interfaces and even GPIB controllers from different vendors.
3.VISA supports aliases. You can assign logical names to the resources. Instead of trying to remember the GPIB address in a rack full of instruments, you can reference 'DMM', 'Scope', etc.
4. If you are programming multiple devices that communicate over more than one bus type, it might be easier to use VISA for your entire system.
5. In VISA, you must always call viEnableEvent() prior to being allowed to receive events, this is required in VISA to avoid the race condition of trying to wait on events for which the hardware may not be enabled.
6.The VISA Resource Control allows you to pick from a list of available resources.

I installed VISA-RTE and there is only a documentation link in c:\programs\...

I just installed visa-rte on my XP PC. There is only a documentation link when I try to run the program (start, all programs, national instuments, visa). I was expecting a .exe. Is this normal or was there an install problem. Do I need Labview to get anything out of visa-rte? I am try to establish communication between a PC and several DC rectifiers. The rectifier manufacturer pushes VISA-rte and "Power Ten GUI". The "power ten gui" displays some canned screens but I dont see how the VISa-rte enters into it. Please help.

A runtime engine isn't always an executable. Sometimes it's just libraries. Did you also install Measurement and Automation Explorer when installing VISA? That should have created a blue icon on your desktop.
What is "Power Ten GUI"? Is it a LabVIEW app? If so, it's probably using VISA, which is why it requires the VISA runtime.

Adding NI VISA RunTime to a LabVIEW app on Mac using PackageMaker

I would like to create a Mac installer that installs NI VISA Run-time in addition to my application. Actually, it would also include a 3rd party USB/UART bridge driver. I'm trying to figure out how to get the NI VISA RT and the bridge driver included in my installer package. I'm close--I can create a package that throws up 3 installer wizards. The problem is that both the NI VISA RT installer and the bridge driver installer wizards end with "Reboot" buttons. If a user clicks either of those reboot button too early, not everything will be installed.
Has anyone come up against this kind of issue?

Yup. Install VISA after your program. If you set your own installer to NOT require a reboot, then you'll only have the requirement after VISA installs. This is how I did it I think.
Either that or I took out part of the VISA installer and re-incorporated it into my own installer. I'm not in the office now so I can't check.
I so wish NI would offer an installer package for LV on the Mac. Having to do this stuff manually is really not worthy of a $$$ product.

Ps i should read better. I see you have two packages requiring a reboot. I think you can extract at least part of the installer package and re-incorporate it into your own installer. I haven't done an installer on Mac for a while so my memory may be rusty.

Unfortunately, you cannot do modbus serial communication with LabVIEW PDA 8.0.1. In oder to do Modbus communication you would need the Modbus Library, but that requires NI-VISA and NI-VISA is not supported in LabVIEW PDA until version 8.2. Aside from this, you can do regural serial communication with PDA 8.0.1 using the Serial Compatibility VI's.

VISA or IVI drivers, example code?

I have an Agilent DSO-X-2004A oscilloscope and I've downloaded two different set's of drivers that work. Here are the links to the drivers.

The first one is the Agilent 2000 3000 4000 X-Series drivers, that require only NI VISA-4.6
The second is the Agilent agx2k3k Oscilloscope drivers, that require NI VISA-4.6 or IVI Compliance 4.3
The second one has example codes, which are VERY helpful for me since I am new to LabVIEW. The first one does not have examples, but seems to have more thorough driver library with more scope options to set. Without the examples though, I will have a tough time. Can I find examples for those drivers somewhere?
When mixing blocks from different drivers, I get broken wires with the message "source is IVI session of class, sink is VISA session of class". Maybe if I could resolve that, I could mix the driver blocks.

The answer is that both driver sets have example code in their .zip files. The first one (Agilent 2000 3000 X-Series) just didn't have the examples show up in the Instrument I/O palet, and the other one (agx2k3k) did. You can add the examples to the palet by following the instructions here:

The question of which set to use is still open. The Agilent 2000 3000 X-Series drivers are "Certified LabVIEW Plug and Play (project-style) Instrument Drivers", and the agx2k3k dirvers are "Certified Multi-Enviornment IVI Instrument Drivers"
For a new user like myself, it's very hard to know the differences and how they may effect me down the road. Hopefully someone with more experience can chime in.

Why do I get VISA code error -1073807202 when trying to connect PXI-2565?

I got error code -1703807202 (a code library required by VISA could not be found) every time when I first started up the computer and used "Initialize with topology" to connect my channels. This error would go away if I start MAX and open up devices and interfaces, then re-run the same task. How do I get rid of the error? Thanks.

Hey Pal,
You are correct about NI-VISA having requirements for LabVIEW. The latest version of NI-VISA won't work properly with LabVIEW 7.0. You can see the supported versions in the readme of the driver. For example, NI-VISA 4.4.1 is compatible with the following versions of LabVIEW: 8.6/8.5/8.2/7.1.1.

Visa doesn't work in runtime environement, but does in development?

I have a vi that utilizes visa for accessing a comport associated with a serial port.
The vi works just fine in the development environment, but after I compile it, the vi's no longer can access the com ports.
any special trick necessary during the compile to ensure that the visa still works?

Problem solved, the runtime environment requires visa runtime drivers. The developement environment requires different visa drivers.
My visa runtime environment drivers were out of date.

VISA Find function to VISA Resource Name

Hi,
Can anyone help me with this VISA question. I'm kind of new to
instrument control, but have been using LV for quite a long time. I'm
using version 6.02. I discovered the VISA Find Resource function, and
thought it would be really neat to find the instruments that are sitting
on my GPIB bus, and then make sure they are the ones I need for my
testing. The Find resource works great, and returns an array of strings
that are the resource names of the instruments. i.e. GPIB0::5::INSTR.
However, the VISA Open (and all the other VISA functions) require a VISA
resource name control (One of those pruple doohickies with I/O in it).
I haven't been able to figure out how to get that string from the find
function into the VISA resou
rce name control (It looks like a pulldown
on the front panel) so that I can do a *IDN? query to find out what
instrument is actually at this address. I've tried property nodes, even
looked at the invoke node, but to no avail. By the way, the property
node DID have the VISA resource name, but it was read only.

I'll do my best to answer your question.
In LabVIEW 6, you have to assign VISA aliases in Measurement and Automation Explorer. You can assign meaningful VISA Aliases to your instruments that you control using VISA in the Devices and Interfaces section in Measurement & Automation Explorer. The aliases can be used in your LabVIEW application development to refer to your instrument.
Once you have assigned aliases in MAX, you simply place a VISA Resource Name Constant in your block diagram. Type the alias name into the resource name constant and wire the name constant to the VISA Resuorce Name input of the VISA Write and VISA Read functions to control your instrument.

Do applications (exe) written and built in LV6 still work with the VISA
installable which worked with LV5.1.1 applications. I just noticed that
all serial comms in LV6 are visa.
