BBM with SIP Protocol (?)

Is there is a chance for BBM in the future to feature calling to land lines or cell phones? I don't know.. something like SIP protocol or whatever..?
I think it could be a nice advantage and a good way to monitize BBM for business and regular users

Skype has supported the SIP protocol for quite some time now. It is however not part of their normal service. If you want to use the SIP version of Skype you will have to pay a premium. The service is called Skype Connect. http://www.skype.com/en/features/skype-connect/

I'd recommend using UDP streams instead of TCP streams, and I'd recommend discarding out-of-order packets and packets that are delayed beyond a certain threshold (which you can play with)...

RpcOut: couldn't open channel with RPCI protocol

callservicesd and soagent using very CPU and memory.

File Sender Adapter with FTP protocol

Hi,
I implementet a file sender adapter with FTP protocol. There is a problem: the sender processes the files even if they're in use by another application.
I.E. If another application put files (via ftp) in the sender work directory (that is on ftp), the sender processes those files before their transfer is completed.
I don't want that this sender in a communication channel in PI 7.1, imports files in the system when they aren't completed yet.
There are some ways to block sender before it processes incompleted files (in an ftp)?

To specify additional parameters in the adapter configuration, set the Advanced Modeindicator.
● Msecs to Wait Before Modification Check
Enter the number of milliseconds that the adapter must wait before it checks whether the files have been changed.
This parameter is not available if you have selected File Content Conversion as the Message Protocoland then made an entry under Recordsets per Message that splits an input file into several messages.
This parameter is applicable only for the File adapter. If you enter a value in this field when configuring the sender FTP adapter, it will have no effect.+
Other approach can be to apply OS level checks

I gues that's what's creating the problem.

Try disabling the start-up items in your computer to troubleshoot the issue. Follow the steps mentioned below:
Right click on the Taskbar > Task Manager > Start-up > Select the applications > Disable.

10.6.2: Bad image quality with SIPS

I used to convert my PDF documents with SIPS like this:
/usr/bin/sips --setProperty format jpeg --setProperty formatOptions high -z 400 200 sourcefilename.pdf --out targetfilename.jpg
This results in a very bad image quality after updating to 10.6.2 (the text contained in the source pdf file is nearly unreadable in the resulting image, especially when using the -z attribute for downsizing).
I could reconstruct this behaviour with several machines today: when using 10.6.1 the quality is fine, but after the update to 10.6.2 the resulting image quality is unacceptable.
Any ideas? Or could this be a bug? The man page for sips does not contain any information about new parameters and the image quality for other target formats (tif, png, ...) seems to be ok.

That picture looks like it was taken in a dimly lit room.
You could try using night mode but you will need a very steady hand.
Most basic phone cameras just cannot produce good pictures indoors when not in brightly lit areas. LED flashes just cannot do a good enough job when compared to real cameras.
Megapixels don't equal quality, it's the lens and flash that make the biggest difference.

Can't see shared folders with AFP protocol

I have an home network, with 2 iMac and a Netgear (DG834PN) router.
When I try to share a folder with AFP protocol (Preferences > Sharing > Sharing documents),
I can't see it from other computer.

Just to dig in deeper with this. I'm having a similar problem (perhaps the same) as described above.
I'm using smbnetfs to mount a folder in my home directory to be my network neighbourhood. When I open it in pcmanfm I can see the work groups, and upon opening a workgroup it'll show nothing more. But in fact, when you open the terminal and do a ls -a you'll notice there are in fact folders corresponding to your computers in that workgroup. Browsing any further works flawlessly.
It's however a minor annoyance that pcmanfm doesn't seem to show them (you can however add a slash to your navigation bar and they'll show up there, rather weird). Has anyone found a way to solve that?

Converting TIFF to JPEG with sips, then import into iPhoto problems

I am cataloguing a box of slides and negatives for my family. The scanner generates huge TIFF files (on purpose), and I have an Applescript that then uses sips to copy them into low quality JPEG files using this command:

where an_image is the source file, and new_file is the path and name of the converted image.
This way, I can save the original file path as the image's description while shrinking the file size to speed up later importing into iPhoto. As part of the iPhoto import, that description from the metadata is placed in the on screen comment section for each image.
This works fine to do the initial shrinking, but less than half of the resulting jpeg files can subsequently be imported into iPhoto. I get this error:
The following file could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognizable format.)
And yet, Preview and Safari both open the files with no problems.
Is there anything else I need to set when doing the conversion with sips to make it easier for iPhoto to recognize the converted files?
I have over 1000 images, and anticipate a final total of about 2500 when I am done. These are images of myself and my siblings from the 1960s and 1970s, and my idea is to scan them all at high resolution, and use the converted, smaller files for iPhoto for keywording and Faces to get them organized, while retaining the paths to the original images. Any commentary is appreciated.

I tried examining the metadata with exiftool, Image Events, and mdls, but there are a number of differences between the TIFF metadata and the JPEG metadata structures. I found no obvious differences, but this is a good idea, and I will continue to examine those closely for clues.

I downloaded the bad JPEG above onto a different machine; it still does not import into iPhoto. However, by invoking sips on that file to convert it back to a TIFF file thusly:
sips -s format tiff Try.jpg --out TryTF.tif
it imported just fine. There has to be some sort of parameter that is NOT being addressed in the conversion from TIFF to JPEG that is somehow messing this up, yet is preserved when the file is re-written as a TIFF.

Before in Mac OS Snow Leopard or earlier it was possible to choose authentication type: TTLS, EAP, TLS, EAP-FAST, LEAP, MD5.
At the present moment in the iPCU (iPhone configuration utility) it is possible to choose: TLS, TTLS, LEAP, PEAP, EAP-FAST, EAP-SIM.
In the manual for iOS 5 it is written that in the new OS MD5 protocol is not supported.
Does it mean that I cannot connect to the local provider?

Hi All,
I have written a shell script to generate a blank file at FTP folder. It works fine with FTP protocol.... But when i try to execute same script through NFS protocol it doesn't work...
Can anybody tell me why is it so? Do we have any restrictions on scripts with adaptors n protocols...?

there is a difference between executing an OS command via telnet and executing it via PI,secondly an OS command on FTP is executed indirectly(script on PI calls the actual script on FTP) whereas an OS command on NFS is executed directly(script on PI is the one which does all the work,no calling of any other script mandatory).
the reason you are able to execute a script via telnet and not via PI can be quiet a few,the most common one is the way you have given the OS cmd in communication channel.
is this a Unix or perl script?

Can not BBM with one particular person in my contact list.

My daughter was overseas for the longest time and we could BBM all the time. As soon as she came back from overseas, we lost contact. I could not send her messages and neither can she. What is weird is that we can still BBM with the rest of our contact list. We tried deleting each other name from our contact list and send each other request to get included in each other list to no avail. Please help.

Just because someone has in iPhone doesn't mean they have iMessage turned on. It's possible some people don't want to use it. It's also possible they haven't updated to iOS 4 yet.

- Scenario 1: I have a uBR10012 with linecard MG20X20V(0 DS, 20 US lic) + SIP 600 and i want to use M-CMTS with SIP-600 connect to RFGW1/RFGW10. Is that possible to do like this?
-Scenario 2: I have a uBR10012 with line card MG3GX60V (72DS, 60 US) + SIP 600, also have a RFGW1 with 98 DS, so I still have 16 DS available, can i use SIP-600 connect to that RFGW1 do use those available DS?
I need some help/advice about those situations, please help me.

There are some restricition about H-VPLS on c7600/SIP, like it could be seen at the "VPLS Configuration Guidelines"
section of above link. But they are generic for SIP-600 itself:
– H-VPLS with Q-in-Q edge—Requires a Cisco 7600 SIP-600 in the uplink, and any LAN port or Cisco 7600 SIP-600 on the downlink.
- H-VPLS with MPLS edge requires either an OSM module, Cisco 7600 SIP-600, or Cisco 7600 SIP-400 in both the downlink (facing UPE) and uplink (MPLS core).
As for SPAs - restriction is about H-VPLS and FastEthernet one:
