BC4J beginner

Hi,
I have a little problem:
in a XXX_SubmitInsertForm I insert into a
table with to parameters. (first is the key)
But before that I want to know if the record
is already in the table.
How can I do this?
Thanks for your help.

Hi there,
take a look at your html form by viewing the source and look at the name of the attribute you are passing. It should be the attribute name. you can recieve this attibute by doing:
String primkey = request.getParameter("attribute_name_passed");
Once you have this value, before passing it in to the insert bean check that the attibute exists. You can do this from a RowSet or ViewObject interface by calling the setWhereClause method:
vo.setWhereClause("id=" + primkey);
vo.executeQuery();you can check by calling the vo.getRowSet().getRowCount() to get the integer value. If the integer is 0 then you know it doesn't exist 1, it does. 2 and your database is corrupt :)

    I still consider myself a beginner in UIX/BC4J, but I presented a paper at June's ODTUG conference that included an example. Try www.odtug.com, look at the 2002 handouts, under JDeveloper. You should be able to download the Powerpoint. If you're interested, e-mail me and I'll send you the actual paper (as a Word document). Or just buy the conference proceedings from ODTUG. They papers should also be up soon in the "Members Only" section of the ODTUG site.

  • Tutorial "Creating JClient Forms for BC4J"

    Hello,
    I'am a beginner in developing with jdeveloper and I tried this tutorial. When I come to the step 4 of 7 in then JClient Form wizard the are two pannels where should display the Master and Details tables. But in my case the is nothing display to select? What is wrong?
    Thanks
    Rainer Buhl

    Which JDeveloper version are you using?
    If it is 9.0. then you need to create a "Business Components Client Data Model" based on an existing BC4J application module first.
    There are some jclinet online demo you can follow here:

  • JBO:33001 bc4j.xcfg file not found in class path

    Hi,
    I am yet another victim of the age-old error JBO:33001 bc4j.xcfg file not found in class path, When i have my BC4JApp.jar in Tomcat Web-inf/lib directory. All the other jar files and class files in my webserver-application web-inf classes and lib directory works.
    But Tomcat server is not able to read this bc4j.xcfg file. I can see in my jar file that this bc4j.xcfg exists and in the specified package directory. still the problem persists. My BC4JApp.jar is perfectly working when i use JDeveloper. but not when i use tomcat4.0 and call a JSP using BC4JApp.jar from browser (My environment is Jdeveloper3.2, Tomcat4.0+IIS in middle tier and oracle 8i as DB, everything on windows2k)
    I have gone through almost all the threads possible that relates to this error in this form. None of them have a answer except to say "put the file in classpath". and last reply is "will fix in jDeveloper 9i. So what happens to us who are working in Jdeveloper 3.2?
    1. I have this file in my jar file.
    2. I also tried creating a seperate directory manually, with the same name as my package under web-inf/classes, web-inf/lib , just under web-inf directory and atlast under approot directory also. I tried having my package directory containing bc4j.xcfg in these folders one at a time and also tried having this directory in all these folders at the same time.
    Still no solution.
    Itz frustrating that neither proper documentation nor a right url page nor i am aware of available addressing this. page links given in above threads only gives me the wonderful page of ie's "Page cannot be displayed".
    Is there a answer to this error and my problem. If this doesn't work, then i have to all the way develop from scratch creating my jsp using JDBC calls and Stored packages etc.
    I don't want to give up on this Jdeveloper at this final moment because if this bc4j.xcfg file is found, my application will work perfectly. on these final moments, if this doesn't work, i am frightened to imagine to develop my application in standard way. Atlast, if thatz the option left,we have to do that bcos our production date is close by.
    Please can some one in this forum or Jdeveloper help me to solve this problem. I am desperate and very urgent.
    Waiting for a reply from Jdev team very much...
    ( I just posted in the other thread which is pretty old, dated backto May 2001, which was relevant to this error. Just to make sure it is noticed, I am posting it seperately too)
    Thanks
    Hari(2/3/02)

    Hi All,
    For those who are following this thread, I got a solution for this error with the help of Jdev Team.
    This solution may work, if you have deployed your application in Tomcat4.0.1. This is the environment in which I work and tested.
    As you may be aware, Tomcat ignores value in CLASSPATH variable.
    To see any files that are existing or newly deployed, it has it own way of detecting it.
    Addition information on Tomcat working, you can follow this link,
    http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.0-doc/index.html
    Coming to point, Tomcat has got five classloaders and each classloader invoked, looks in their related directories for files in following order.
    1. /WEB-INF/classes of your web-application
    2. /WEB-INF/lib/*.jar of your web application
    3. BootStrap classes of your JVM (Tomcat's $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext)
    4. System class loader classes($CATALINA_HOME/bin/bootstrap.jar,CATALINA_HOME/lib/tools.jar)
    5. $CATALINA_HOME/common/classes
    6. $CATALINA_HOME/common/lib/*.jar
    7. $CATALINA_HOME//classes
    8. $CATALINA_HOME/lib/*.jar
    So All your individual application related files should be deployed in your application's WEB-INF/classes or WEB-INF/lib directory accordingly.
    If your application files are unpacked, they should be deployed or copied under WEB-INF/classes directory
    if the files are within a jar, they should be under WEB-INF/lib directory.
    If your Jar-files contains bc4j components, then those jar files should be deployed under WEB-INF/lib directory. Also,do the next step to copy all relavant BC4J runtime libraries under lib directory.
    IMPORTANT: Please remember to copy and paste all the required BC4j runtime libraries in the Same WEB-INF/lib directory along with your application jar files. This is the real reason which can solve this JBO:33001 to disappear. It worked for me.
    To configure your directory for tag-lib uri's, use web.xml to set the taglib-uri attribute.
    Put your web.xml and DataTags.tld in the WEB-INF directory.
    Your simple web.xml may look like as follows.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <!DOCTYPE web-app
    PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN"
    "http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd">
    <web-app>
         <taglib>
              <taglib-uri>
                   /webapp/DataTags.tld
              </taglib-uri>
              <taglib-location>
                   /WEB-INF/DataTags.tld
              </taglib-location>
         </taglib>
    </web-app>
    You may then modify this web.xml to suit further requirements of your application.
    Remember to stop and restart the Tomcat Server (service) by using shutdown and startup scripts after updating any jar files/class files/ JSP or source files deployed in Tomcat.
    Sometimes, only this helps even though your context's reloadable attribute is set to true in Tomcat Server's server.xml file.
    Hope this above information helps you to solve this error in Tomcat environment. My Sincere thanks once again to Juan and Jdev team for their help and efforts to solve this problem.
    Thanks
    Hari

  • Error while opening BC4J objects in Jdev 10G

    I downloaded the jdev 10.1.3.3 version , copied the entire JAVA_TOP files to myclasses on my local machine. In the project content property i gave the path to myprojects.
    In the include section i included only oracle\apps\ego since these are the only files i need to modify.
    Now when I right click on one of the EOs in jdev, i get an error message that there are java errors in the underlying EOImpl.java and the wizard will open read only.
    I did not modify any files. These are all oracle shipped files. This happens with a few other objects. I am able to open some of the BC4J objects but some of them give me this error mesage.
    When I build the project , i do not see any errors, I am even able to run a page.
    What is wrong here. is it some missing library or do i need to include additional files/folders .. Please help
    thanks,

    I deleted the class files from myprojects and tried opening the EO but that din't help. I created a new project after deleting all the class files, even now i get the same error.
    I wonder if reinstalling jdev will solve the issue? I have only xml files in the myprojects folder but i keep getting the same message that there exist errors in the .java file under the myprojects folder.
    I'm not sure what's going on. Is there some cache that jdev is looking at.

  • DID YOU KNOW?: Debugging with BC4J Tester

    Did you know that in JDeveloper 3.2, you can run the BC4J tester in debug mode to exercise your business components and hit breakpoints at the same time?
    Just do the following:
    [list]
    [*]Expand the navigator node for your Application Module, revealing its XML and Java implementation files.
    [*]Right-mouse on the YourAppModImpl.java file, and select Debug...
    [list]
    By default, it will debug using the "local mode" connection configuration. If you want it to debug using a difference configuration, just change the configuration name that appears as the 2nd argument in the launchTester call in the main() method of the application module implementation file.

    grin Thanks, Steve.
    Does this mean that in JDev 5.0 we're going to see an animated Steven Muench head in a tiny window in the lower corner, occassionally tapping on the glass to offer us hints?

  • Raw Beginner need help with Adobe Photoshop CS2

    I am reading Photoshop CS2 for digital photographers by Scott Kelby. I am looking at pg 55 if any one has this book and would like to visually see what I am about to describe. I own Adobe Photoshop CS2 software. After bringing up Adobe bride RAW on my PC, I then see all the settings, Exposure, Shadows, Brightness, Contrast, and Saturation.. Located directly above all of these settings is Auto and Default which you can click on and adjust all settings at the same time. If you don't like what you see you click on Default to go back to the original, you can then make your adjustments individually. In my CS2 book there is an Auto box you can check or un-check beside each setting, Exposure, Shadows, Brightness, and Contrast. My question is how do I get the Auto box beside each setting so I can simply put a check in that box and preview changes individually instead of the Auto and Default on top which changes every setting at the same time? I hope this make since to you, if not I will try to explain again.

    Thank you Ramon for your help. I will just be happy with what I have, which works fine but I thought it might be better for me to have the individual Auto check box for each setting. Thank you for the tip to double-click the sliders to reset it to default, it works in CS2 also:) Actually this gives me more control and works out great now that I think about it. I am sure there are more handy little tips I should know about but don't because I am a beginner in learning RAW. Hopefully I'll stumble across a book or some thing over the internet that will help me with my learning curve.

  • BC4J, Auditing, Partner Application and SSO

    I am trying to figure out how to set up a BC4J-JSP app to use "database audit trail in entity objects" within a Portal/SSO environment.
    Here is the situation;
    Part 1:
    I am able to partially get the auditing to work on a BC4J App Module in the tester by setting the appropriate history columns in the Entity Object and then setting the jbo.security.enforce property to "Test". Upon entering the tester I am challenged for a "username/password". At this point I can enter any credentials, I can then enter some data. Visually checking the database I find that the history "date" columns (date_created) are ok but the "user" columns (created_by) are not filled in.
    Part 2:
    Now if I set jbo.security.enforce property to "Test". I am not sure what user credential to enter here. I have looked at OID Manager for some clues for what username/password but I'm not sure if this is even in the ballpark.
    Part 3:
    At some point I will deploy this app as an SSO/Partner Application which will be accessed from a Portal page. Since authentication is handled by the SSO login page, I am confused about setting up the "database audit trail in entity objects" (from Part 1) as it talks about creating * another * login page. This seems contradictory so Long postings are being truncated to ~1 kB at this time.

    Part 1:
    When setting jbo.security.enforce property to "Test", BC4J does not throw exception if credential is invalid. You should set it to "Must" if you really want to validate the credential. The "Test" setting does perform the authentication, a warning stating authentication fail is in the diagnostic output if the username/password is invalid. The "Test" setting is just to exercise the authentication but if it fail it does not stop the rest of the application. The "user" column (created_by) does not get fill could be cause by failed authentication or if the column is marked as Refresh on Update or Refresh on Insert, or if the client app insert null or zero length string into it.
    Part 2:
    BC4J default authentication uses the LoginModule from Oracle9iAS JAAS (in j2ee\home\jazn.jar). This LoginModule by default configure to use the lightweight jazn-xml. You can check this by looking "<jazn provider=..." in the j2ee\home\config\jazn.xml. If you are interested in using OID, you need to change it to <jazn provider="LDAP" location="ldap://myoid.us.oracle.com:389" />, "myoid.us.oracle.com:389" should be host address and port of your OID. There are a few predefined users in the lightweight jazn-xml if you wish to test it, there are admin/Long postings are being truncated to ~1 kB at this time.

  • How to set paths for  bc4j Project in release 2

    Hi
    I have a workspace with 2 projects 1 bc4j and the other contains my jsps etc
    They were created in JDev9i RC
    I have recreated my connections in release 2
    I have opened the projects in Release 2 I am trying to run the bc4j Project to test if all is working in release 2 and I got a whole host of errors like:
    -jsp files must reside in the server root directory or a subdirectory beneath it
    -cannot access directory javax\servlet\jsp : verify that directory is reachable from classpath and \or sourcepath
    -cannot access class oracle.jsp.runtime.HttpJsp : file oracle\jsp\runtime\Http.Class not found
    It seems like there is something I need to specify in the classpath /path
    but I am not sure what
    Any one know?
    thanks

    Hi
    Thanks for your response
    The bc4j project compiles and runs fine now
    but I am still getting a runtime error
    when I run the jsp project
    the error is
    JBO-33001: Cannot find the configuration file /IntranetPackage2/common/bc4j.xcfg in the classpath
    I have tried including that path in the java source path but still no effect
    It appears there is a little snag at each step of the way

  • HOW TO: Set up your application server to run BC4J

    How To set up your application server to run BC4J.
    INTRODUCTION
    A running BC4J application is actually the combination of:
    * Your own application files
    * BC4J runtime libraries
    In order to successfully run your BC4J application in local mode, the first requirement is
    that your application server contains the necessary BC4J libraries.
    This How To describes the steps required to ensure that you have a functional
    BC4J runtime environment installed on your application server.
    Oracle IAS 1.0.2 and Tomcat 3.1 will be used as examples.
    THE BC4J RUNTIME LIBRARIES
    Whatever application server you deploy to, the following libraries
    are required in the following order to be in the classpath.
    BC4J Libraries:
    xmlparserv2.jar
    jdev-rt.zip
    jbojdbcpatch.zip
    connectionmanager.zip
    jbohtml.zip
    jboimdomains.zip
    ordim817.zip
    ordvir817.zip
    ordhttp.zip
    jbomt.zip
    jbodomorcl.zip
    jboremote.zip
    jndi.jar
    jbodatum12.zip
    These libraries can be found in <JDEV_HOME>/lib/
    INSTALLING THE LIBRARIES ON IAS:
    Installing the libraries is simply a matter of copying them to the
    application server's filesystem and adding them to the classpath.
    IAS's classpath can be modified by editing the file:
    <IAS_HOME>\Apache\Jserv\conf\jserv.properties
    In this file you'll find the existing pre-installed BC4J libraries which
    looks like this:
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\lib\ordvir817.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\lib\ordim817.zip
    etc.
    Note! These BC4J libraries correspond to JDeveloper 3.1.1.
    In order to run JDev 3.2 based applications you will have to update these libraries
    to JDeveloper 3.2 production.
    Steps:
    1. Copy (or FTP) the JDev 3.2 BC4J libraries from <JDEV_HOME>\lib to a NEW directory on the
    appserver's filesystem called:
    <IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib
    2. Modify the classpath by editing <IAS_HOME>\Apache\Jserv\conf\jserv.properties.
    Example: (modified classpath entries)
    # New 3.2 BC4J Runtime libraries
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\xmlparserv2.jar
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jdev-rt.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jbojdbcpatch.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\connectionmanager.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jbohtml.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jboimdomains.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\ordim817.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\ordvir817.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\ordhttp.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jbomt.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jbodomorcl.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jboremote.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jndi.jar
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jbodatum12.zip
    Note: Make sure to remove or comment out the existing 3.1.1 BC4J library entries!
    To see the changes, you must restart IAS and that's it, your IAS will be updated with
    the JDev 3.2 BC4J libraries which allow you to run BC4J Data Tags among other
    things!
    INSTALLING THE LIBRARIES ON TOMCAT
    As before, this process involves both the copying of the libraries
    and modifying the classpath.
    After copying the BC4J libraries to a path accessible from Tomcat,
    you can modify Tomcat's classpath by editing it's startup script:
    <TOMCAT_HOME>\bin\tomcat.bat (NT)
    <TOMCAT_HOME>\bin\tomcat.sh (Unix)
    Here is a portion of a modified tomcat.bat (on NT)
    rem Add BC4J libraries
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\xmlparserv2.jar
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jdev-rt.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jbojdbcpatch.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\connectionmanager.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jbohtml.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jboimdomains.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\or dim817.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\ordvir817.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\ordhttp.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jbomt.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jbodomorcl.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jboremote.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jndi.jar
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jbodatum12.zip
    rem Add Oracle JDBC library
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\classes12.zip
    Note: I also added the Oracle JDBC library since Tomcat does not have it.
    It is found at:
    <JDEV_HOME>\jdbc\lib\oracle8.1.7\classes12.zip
    And That's It!
    When Tomcat is restarted using this script, the necessary BC4J libraries
    will be in the classpath..
    A follow up How To:"How To Deploy a BC4J JSP Application on IAS and Tomcat"
    will be posted shortly!

    I copied the following files in jserv classpath
    bc4jct.jar

  • Jsp,bc4j,Data web Bean , error : NO ROWS AVAILABLE FOR EDITING

    HI
    I'm developping a jsp application based on Bc4j. when trying to insert a new row with missing fields which must be not null,
    in order to be able to edit the row and correct the non seized fields, I display the edit page and it works for several views. but this time when editing fields and submitting the edit form an error is raised with the message no rows available for editing.
    the particularity for these views(which causes the error) is that are details for a view which is detail for an other.
    can someone please suggest some solution for such a problem

    this is a typicall error that occurs when trying to execute the Row data tag with action "Update" and there is not row obtained through the rowkeyparam (normally MyRowKey url parameter passed from the Edit page). I don4t have sufficient information to give you an exact solution.
    I don4t understand all your escenario, you spoke about "Insert new row with missing values in required fields", but if you don4t specify a right value to that fields, the insert fail.
    Then you display the Edit page to edit that just inserted row, to correct (specify?) the values of that fields. The error occurs in the EditSubmit page.
    The EditSubmit page execute de Row data tag, according to the implementation of Rowtag, first recover the row reference (from rowkeyparam url parameter) and then, if that row reference is null, throws the "No rows available for editing" Runtime Exception. This means that the datasource used in your EditSubmit page not include that RowKey reference (obtained from Edit page as Url parameter).

  • How to get the column values from a BC4J View Table in UIXML?

How do I get the column value of a selected row in a BC4J Table (example:OrdersId) when a Submit button is pressed using UIXML or Java Classes?
    I appreciate any help on this.

    Hi,
    You need to use keyStamp, an example:
    <bc4j table name="orders">
    <bc4j:keyStamp>
    <bc4j:rowKey name="key" />
    </bc4j:keyStamp>
    Furthermore, you can automatically send the selected row key using the go event handler, so in the handlers section you could send the key to an orderInfo page:
    <event name="show">
    <!-- forward to the update page, passing
    the selected key as a page property -->
    <ctrl:go name="orderInfo" redirect="true">
    <ctrl:property name="key">
    <ctrl:selection name="orders" key="key" />
    </ctrl:property>
    </ctrl:go>
    </event>

  • Performance issues with LOV bindings in 3-tier BC4J architecture

    We are running BC4J and JClient (Jdeveloper 9.0.3.4/9iAS 9.0.2) in a 3-tier architecture, and have problems with the performance.
    One of our problems are comboboxes with LOV bindings. The view objects that provides data for the LOV bindings contains simple queries from tables with only 4-10 rows, and there are no view links or entity objects to these views.
    To create the LOV binding and to set the model for the combobox takes about 1 second for each combobox.
    We have tried most of tips in http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/tips/muench/jclientperf/index.html, but they do not seem to help on our problem.
    The performance is OK (if not great) when the same code is running as 2-tier.
    Does anyone have any good suggestions?

    I can recommend that you look at the following two bugs in Metalink: Bug 2640945 and Bug 3621502
    They are related to the disabling of the TCP socket-level acknowledgement which slows down remote communications for EJB components using ORMI (the protocol used by Oracle OC4J) to communicate between remote EJB client and server.
    A BC4J Application Module deployed as an EJB suffers this same network latency penalty due to the TCP acknowledgement.
    A customer sent me information (that you'll see there as a part of Bug# 3621502) like this on a related issue:
    We found our application runs very slow in 3-Tier mode (JClient, BC4J deployed
    as EJB Session Bean on 9iAS server 9.0.2 enterprise edition). We spent a lot
    of time to tune up our codes but that helped very little. Eventually, we found
    the problem seemed to happen on TCP level. There is a 200ms delay in TCP
    level. After we read some documents about Nagle Algorithm,  we disabled a
    registry key (TcpDelAckTicks) in windows2000  on both client and server. This
    makes our program a lot faster.
    Anyway, we think we should provide our clients a better solution other than
    changing windows registry for them, for example, there may be a way to disable
    that Nagle's algorithm through java.net.Socket.setTcpNoDelay(true), in BC4J,
    or anywhere in our codes. We have not figured out yet.
    Bug 2640945 was fixed in Oracle Application Server 10g (v9.0.4) and it now disables this TCP Acknowledgement on the server side in that release. In the BugDB, I see backport patches available for earlier 9.0.3 and 9.0.2 releases of IAS as well.
    Bug 3621502 is requesting that that same disabling also be performed on the client side by the ORMI code. I have received a test patch from development to try out, but haven't had the chance yet.
    The customer's workaround in the interim was to disable this TCP Acknowledgement at the OS level by modifying a Windows registry setting as noted above.
    See Also http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=328890
    "New registry entry for controlling the TCP Acknowledgment (ACK) behavior in Windows XP and in Windows Server 2003" which documents that the registry entry to change disable this acknowledgement has a different name in Windows XP and Windows 2003.
    Hope this info helps. It would be useful to hear back from you on whether this helps your performance issue.
