BC4J, compiling: takes ages to compile when connected to network

Hi,
We have a BC4J project that's almost
100% wizard-generated from an Oracle 8.1.5
database and we have been experiencing a very strange behaviour in JDev. What happens is that it takes ages to load and compile the project when the computer is connected to the network. Just unplugging the network cable more than doubles the speed. The database and JDev are on the same machine: a Pentium III 550, 512MB using JDK1.2.2.
We would appreciate any comments on this behaviour.

athelas wrote:No, I removed it since and I removed eth0="dhcp" and wlan0="dhcp", because that is in the profiles. Yes I am still experimenting with all that stuff but I didn't know which deamons can be backgrounded and which not.
This is off the actual thread topic, but I background everything except syslog-ng because I do want to see logs in case something goes wrong during boot. Also you have hal in your daemons which is deprecated. If you still  use apps that require hal, then by all means keep it in the array, but if you don't then that's something you can get rid off.
fam is another that can be replaced with gamin. gamin does not require to be run as a daemon. if you don't use printers then you can get rid of cups. if you don't have network storage or any reason to access drives across the network then you can remove netfs as well.
Just some things you can look into.

My apple tv stuck at setting date and time. Also when connecting yo network doesn't ask for network password

I just went through this last night. (Aug 15, 2013)
What I did to get back up and running. This is not the first time I have lost the network connection with my Apple TV 3
Products effected: Apple TV 3 and Home Sharing (My Apple TV 1 was not effected)
Power down (unplug) the Apple TV and power down your router ( in my case, it is a FIOS router, flipping the on/off works fine).
    Power both items back up.
At this point, I usually can reenter my Apple ID and PW. and reconnect Home Sharing.  But for some reason I was unable to reconnect last night but was able to get it reconnected in the morning. I was jut to tired to deal with it last night.
A new issue that is was able to fix after a good nights sleep.
I did figure out, (after trying to reenter my ID and PW many times and having it tell me that my ID and PW was wrong), that when using the Apple TV on screen keypad to type in the user ID. DO NOT use the ".com" keypad button. Instead type out each character for .com. ( or what ever ending you use for your ID account.)
Once I typed out my full ID and PW. everything is back to 100%

  • The first upload takes ages! even after connected

    Hi all,
I have noticed a little issue I have when uploading a single file to the remote server via SFTP, The first upload will take ages about 30 secs before completing. The activity icon will stop on one quarter for this time and then complete when ready. I have no issues with uploading after the first file has been done. This happens each time i connect to a new FTP account. I'm not too concerned about the time delay, I just hope that the connection is not being interceptered by a third party or somthing.
Could it just be that DW is communicating with the server to secure it the first time around or am i paranoid?
    Using the lastest DW CC
    Win 7 Home Premium, updated!
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, this problem is pretty irritating to say the least.
FTP is the simplest of operations and the most fundemental. But ever since Adobe tookover Macromedia its just gone to pot.
Already I cant use the ftp for anything with more than 50 files and have to use a REAL ftp tool like fo;eZilla to who I dont pay a huge amount each month for professional software.
But waiting upto a minute for a 5kb file to upload is ridiculous. I might as well multitask with a third party tool. Nice one Adobe. I hope your shares are doing well.

  • Macbook shuts down when connected to network

My Macbook Pro continues to shut down and restart itself - ONLY when connected to a new network wirelessly. It works fine at our office, but when I take it home or to another network, it starts the shut down/restart

    Hi Residae,
I understand you are having issues when connecting your iPod to iTunes. Lets see if the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant resolves this:
    iPod Troubleshooting Assistant
    Reset
    To reset your iPod:
    1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
    2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
    Tip:
If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
If the above does not help, please try the remaining 4 steps.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • MS Access connectivity gets slow when connecting insidde network domain

    Hello,<o:p></o:p>
We've created an application based on Excel VBA that connects to an access DB located at the file server in our network domain. Now I'm installing
same app in another server for another domain, but the connection is really slow so the app hangs while retrieving information from the .mdb file located at the server.<o:p></o:p>
I created a local environment in my computer to test and realized as as soon as I connect the network cable the connection to the DB get slow, but
when I unplug the network cable the app start to responding as usual.<o:p></o:p>
I'm using Ole DB jet 4.0 with the following connection string:<o:p></o:p>
    cnt.Open "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source= MasterDB ;Jet OLEDB:Database Password= 12345;"<o:p></o:p>
It seems that the problem it is related to some authentication on the server that makes the connectivity slow because it has not sense to me that
when I connect the network cable and log into the domain the speed goes down even if the application is looking to the DB file in mi local hard drive.<o:p></o:p>

    I'd try them over here.

  • Import panel takes ages to appear when uploading cards

    Hi all,
I have a 17"macbook pro I7 with 8GB RAM, running the latest LR 3.3 and OS 10.6.6, I shoot people and use this machine mainly on location to import cards, check focus, edit images and metadata. Back at the studio I also have a macpro 2.93 Ghz Quad-core with 12GB of Ram.
I have used LR since it was launched and recently upgraded from LR2 to LR 3. Everything seemed to be working fine, however in the last couple of months I have noticed that everytime I put a card in the laptop, allthough it apperars instantly on the desktop and in Bridge, it takes exactly 40 seconds for the import dialogue panel to apperar. This is very odd as it used to be instant, even on V3.0. I use lexar and Sandisk card readers via the USB port, the same readers and cables I used before this started happening. There are 3 USB ports on the 17", i've tried them all and also a FW800 reader with the same result.
On the Macpro the import panel still pops up instantly when inserting a card. I have also tested 2 other laptops, one a 13" brand new intel core duo ( 10 seconds to load) and an old macbook pro (instant).
This delay it's actually quite annoying when you are shooting people at speed as it slows the whole workflow down.
Has anyone else had the same problem?
    Thanks for your help,
    Igor

Yes, it's happened to me. At first I thought it was the problem with Norton (when Itunes does an update, it always messes around with my antivirus, so I have to go into norton and reset it up).
However it seems a genuine program error here - I run two ipods on my itunes and have done for a yea, my personal one of 4g and the family one of 160g. When i plug in the 4 g it takes itunes about a minute to locate it, but when i plug in the 160g it takes about 10 minutes or so, so the bigger the ipod, the longer delay if I'm right.
It all works after the delay, but everything freezes until the ipod is located and it's really frustrating.
Hopefully it's something apple can quickly rectify on the next update.....

  • ITunes freezes with iPhone, when connected to network

iTunes started to freeze with latest version (9), when iPhone is connected.
I tryed everything from the Apple support page:

iTunes is working well with iPhone, when network is disabled, but how I can fix it? What could be the problem?

    Hey Hoods ginest,
Check out the following article, it'll go over how to sync your photos to your iPhone using iTunes:

  • Slower internet connection when connection wireless network

Currently using a Linksys WRT54GL wireless broadband (firmware v4.30.5) router in conjunction with a Thomson Speedtouch 546i ADSL router (ISP provided).
My problem is that when I connect to the internet over the wireless network I experience a much slower internet connection in comparison with when I use a tp-cable.
Tested with various online "speed-tests" (I know they are not to be trusted, but they do give a basis for comparison):
    Over wireless network : ca.6000kbits/sec.
Direct cable from pc to router (tested on both routers):12-13000kbits/sec.
Hope anyone has any idea what the problem may be, and any help is greatly appreciated.

Change the beacon to 50 ....and reduce the RTS and the fragmentation by 40 each.....these options are found under the advanced wireless settings...
Also make sure that u have the latest drivers installed for the Wireless NIC.

  • Slow boot when connected to network

    Hi
I have a macbook pro and an imac, both recently updated and have noticed that since the update there is a significant delay, right at the start of the boot process, if either machine is connected to a network. Both my machines are running boot camp with windows 7.
On both machines, if I hold the "ALT" key to select a disk when powering on and the machine is connected to my network (which uses static IP addresses), there is a delay of a minute or so before the boot disks are displayed. If they are not connected then the disks are displayed almost immediately.
My question then: What's going on? The IP addresses are static so what could they possibly be waiting for?
    Cheers
    Mark

    Hi,
How about Safe Mode? Have you tried it? In addition, please try to upgrade your BIOS and motherboard driver to be latest for test.
Be warned: Flashing BIOS is a risky process.  If power is interrupted during the update your machine will be rendered unusable.

  • LW 16/600 Fails POST when Connected to Network

I have an Apple LaserWriter 16/600 that I bought in 1992. When I power it up, it goes through the POST OK but if it's connected to the network, the leftmost light flashes instead of turning solid green.
When I disconnect the network adapter (I'm using a Farallon EtherWave), the leftmost light stays solid green.
I have powered the printer off and back on, including leaving it off for about a week.
Anyone have any insight on this.
Also, anyone know of a company that repairs the 16/600?
    Thanks for any info.

After the Power-On Self Test, the green light flashing indicates that it is accepting a print job. Most folks would not consider that a malfunction.

  • Computer Name changes at Terminal prompt when connected to network

When I connect to the network at my client my terminal prompt changes from:
    MyComputer:~ john$

I don't log in to their network, I just connect to LAN and get an IP address assigned by DHCP.
    What gives?

  • MDNS responder hogging CPU when connected to network

    Hi all.
It seems whenever I'm connected to my work's network (either via wired or wireless) my mDNSResponder service starts hogging CPU. It generally starts at 0 and works its way up to 70-80% total CPU usage. I can kill it but within a few seconds it starts back up again.
Any idea what the problem is or how to fix it? This has never been a problem in the past, and as far as I'm aware there have been no changes to the network.
    Thanks!

My first psychic guess would be a messed up .cache, but...
mDNSResponder (also known as mdnsd on some systems) is a daemon invoked at boot time to implement Multicast DNS and DNS Service Discovery.
mDNSResponder listens UDP port 5353 for Multicast DNS Query packets.
When it receives a query for which it knows an answer, mDNSResponder issues the appropriate Multicast DNS Reply packet.
mDNSResponder also performs Multicast DNS Queries on behalf of client processes, and maintains a cache of the replies.
mDNSResponder has no user-specifiable command-line argument, and users should not run mDNSResponder manually.
To examine mDNSResponder's internal state, for debugging and disagnostic purposes, send it a SIGINFO signal, and it will then dump a snapshot summary of its internal state to /var/log/system.log, e.g.
    sudo killall -INFO mDNSResponder
Also, not sure if this applies to OSX or not...

  • Dramatically increased response times when connected to network

I suddenly noticed that the response time for opening a folder item in my local Portal installation increased when I connected to the network. Why? I want to understand this, since I'm supposed to help a customer with their performance problems.
    Further details:
The response time increased from about 2 seconds to about 10 seconds when I connected to the network. In this case, I connected via an ISDN line to my normal dial-up number at work. However, when I connect to my private ISP account (Telenor Online), the response times are unchanged, i.e. still 2 seconds.
One difference between the two access points is the use of a proxy in the first case.
    What's the explanation?
    Thanks, Erik Hagen

  • AppleShare error message when connecting to network in Classic

I have been using an old PowerPC Macintosh 7300/166 as a file server connected by ethernet cable to a 15" PowerBook G4 running OS X (10.3.9) in Classic without problems. However on updating to 10.4.8 I get the message "AppleShare system error" after I've entered the password in the Chooser window on the G4. Any ideas?
    powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

This phenomenon was discussed down in the benthic depths of Pre-G3 Computers at:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3491236&#3491236
some couple of months ago. In essence, older computers can be clients to OS X.4 machines, but not vice versa if the older computer is running less than OS 9. Otherwise, all works as expected.
It is also of help to make sure that users have the same OS X 'Short name' on OS X and older OSs alike.
At this moment, my wife's eMac and the iMac on which I am writing, with Panther and Tiger respectively, are showing clearly in the Chooser of a Classic II running System 7.5, using no more magic than an Asanté EN/SC bridge and a Netgear 10Base-T hub to connect the Classic II to the LAN.
