BC4J: Migration to SGBD 11g

Hi!
I'm currently evaluating the effort for migrating our sgbd from 10g to 11g. One of our application is using BC4J 10.1.2.17.96 (+I know, it's time to upgrade it but time and money are missing.+). I'm searching for any information on this matter. After review of our system, we do nothing else then select/delete/update, so i'm confident that pointing the application to the new database will be alright. But I can't swear it.
- Is there any documentation out there regarding these kind of migration?
- Does anybody know if there is known issue?
- Did someone have done this before? (Hope so)
Thanks for any information!
S.

What does sdbg mean?
The application using bc4j users this only in the model layer or does it use jbo tags in the ui too ?
Migrating the bc4j model layer is normally not a big problem. Still, to get to 11get from 10.1.2.x means you have to do two steps. First to 10.3.5 then to 11.1.1.x and if you plan to migrate to 11.1.2.1 you have three steps.
Next you have to manage a server change, from OAS to WebLogic.
Biggest challenge is the migration of the ui. As you did not mention what technologies you are using now, I can't say more.

  • Report migration in OBIEE 11g

    Hi
    I am new to OBIEE 11g.
    1. I want to migrate report dashboard from DEV instance to UAT instance.
    2. I want to share reports to other users.
    Kindly someone give me guideline to proceed.
    Thanks
    Krishna

    Check these links.. it is more or less same as in 10g case by case.
    You need to select the report/dashboards archive and unarchive using catalog manager.
    If your Dev and UAT are already set with groups/roles then you suppose to do online mode so that the security settings will persist during archive and unarchive..

    1. Go to C:\Oracle\Middleware\asinst_1\config\FRComponent\frcommon\tools\admin
    2. Make a backup of the file 'cauprefs.ora'
    3. Open up the file in a text editor:

  • Migration from Jdeveloper 11g r1 to 11g r2 problem

    Hi all
    I have a project initially created in Jdeveloper 11g r1
    after migrating it to Jdeveloper 11g r2 i tried to replace lookup ejb invocation to dependency injection.
    So i used @EJB annotation in my managed bean. I'm shure there could be no mistakes in the way how i used this anno, i did it many times
    it looks something like this
    @EJB(name="StatelessSessionEJBEx",beanInterface =StatelessSessionEJBEx.class, beanName = "StatelessSessionEJBEx")
    as a result it generated an exception which said that the EJB interface could not be found, though all dependencies between business and view projects are in place. After a while i figured out that the problem is it used JSF 1.2 specification instead of 2.0 so i replaced the version of JSF in managed been source code
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="windows-1251"?>
    <faces-config version="2.0" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee"> ....
    but it seemed to make no effect at all.
    So are there any guesses what i did wrong
    Thanks. Alex.

    Hi,
    the server used by JDeveloper 11g R2 is a patched WLS 10.3.5 or 10.1.3.6 server (depends on teh JDeveloper version), which is not a Java EE 6 version but Java EE 5 (which explains why CDI doesn't work as expected). To read up on how to get annotated EJBs work from JSF managed beans, see http://buttso.blogspot.de/2011/03/jsf-with-managed-beans-and-dependency.html.
    The upcoming 12c release will solve all of this. My suggestion therefore is to keep on going with the web.xml reference and then replace it later with @EJB annotation references

  • Migrate to Oracle 11g

    Dear All,
    Presently we are have a Oracle 10.2.0.2 on HP-UX 11.31 IA64.  We got the Oracle 10g with SAP Sofrware.
    Is it advisable to migrate to 11g in next six months?
    Thanks in advance,
    Nirav

    Hi Mark,
    this might get off-topic to the inital question.
    It was not 11g yes/no and what features to use.
    It was: 11g: when? and "why when"?
    I only wanted to say, that there CAN be reasons, and this one MIGHT be one
    worth to be considered when you need to decide pro/con 11g right now or later.
    However, the compression feature is one which is quite frequently disscussed right now
    and as as you already are at the real frontside it is very interesting to get additional real
    life information about that topic.
    > ... However I don't agree at all. Todays databases are strongly limited
    > on IO bandwidth, and if we compress Oracle (or DB2 or whatever) databases, this only

    > to serve the database requests. Dialog user response times will suffer.
    Yeah, could be either way, but the test-scenarios around are currently more talking
    about the benefit that compressed data is even more data inside the same amount of cache RAM,
    so that in fact you will do less IO in average.
    Do you say so from messured data from your system, from subjective click-and-feel,
    from user-feedback or just some belly-feelings
    (which must not be bad, I tend to listen to my belly very carefully )?
    I have no data about this at all so I am very curious.
    > For backups I also see no benefit if you have a compressed database. The
    > LTO drives perform data compression on the fly for free. So it is no big deal
    > if your database size shrinks, the space on tape will not be reduced significantly.
    That is a point, I disagree with. For backup it might not be relevant if a tape is
    doing compression (allthough it can only be a streaming type like Huffman or
    repeated value elimination, or something like that), but for restore it very well makes a
    difference if you need to write 2 TB or 6 TB back to your disks.
    (even if they are on less spindels)
    Curious about your thoughts about this.
    Best regards
    Volker

  • Approach To migrate forms6i to 11g

    Hi ,
    We are in the process of upgrading forms 6i to forms11g.
    i) what is the best practice to migrate ?
    a) Is it advisable to use Oracle Migration Assitant or to convert it using APEX.
    b) Are there any pros and cons of using both the approach
    Is Migration Assitant or Apex alone sufficinet to convert from forms6i to 11g. how to handle the obseleted features of 6i in 11g.
    are there any other considertaion to be noted while upgrading to 11g
    Appreciate your inputs on this.
    Regards
    sunil

    Let me address your questions
    1) See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15523_01/doc.1111/e10394/toc.htm
    a) YOu could use the Forms migration assistant but its not a requirement. Regarding APEX - well, if you choose Apex thats your choice but you are choosing a different technology and you'll pretty much be looking at a re-write. See http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/pdf/10gR2/formsmigration.pdf
    b) See the above link for some details on migration to APex. If you stay with Forms then you have the following benefits
    Application look and feel will be similar in 11g as 6i - so no end user retraining
    Development environment is the same - no need to retrain developers
    You preserve the investment you have in Forms
    YOu don't have to spend time/cost/risk in moving to a different technology.
    Obsolete features see http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/pdf/forms_upgrade_reference.pdf

    Hi John,
    Just start the online update tool.
    You will see a hint: „JDeveloper 11g (11.1.1.0.1) is Aviable.“
    Press the „Select All“ button, then „Next“.
    Check the „Summery“ box.
    Click Finish and see the „Confirm Exit“ text and press „Yes“ to restart JDeveloper.
    And now after running this course and rechecking the result against your (very comprehensible) assumptions tell me something about professionalism...
    I wasn't talking about any whatever update in the future, but about this very real one.
    Sorry John, but sarcasm from your site is absolutely inopportune at this point.

    after importing what should SGA we need to set ? is it should be AMM or not?

    Any chance of decreasing Performance?

  • Migrating forms to 11g - problems with absolete built-ins

    Sorry if it's the wrong section, but nerves are kicking in and I'm lost.
    I've been trying to migrate an old, probably 8i database with its tools and forms into 11g. All software seems to run fine, but when I try to run the forms I either get "this form was made using an old forms builder" error, or worse - some enigmatic FRM and ORA (exception 6508) errors apparently connected to lack of some procedure called in the form triggers.
    Now you'd probably say "just recompile those forms". But I can't - I get tons of compilation errors, mostly comming in from absolete built-ins or trying to select from system views. That happens when trying to recompile libraries referenced by those forms, which is probably why i get those procedure lacking errors.
    Since the ammount and nature of those overwhelmed me I tried using Forms Migration Assistant...talk about betting on the wrong horse. First I had to change the 'start in' property of the assitants shortcut to where i stored the forms/libraries or else it kept throwing the libs out of said forms. Then I got a bundle of pld files and the most important libraries unchanged, with no mention of any problem in the assistants log. Needless to say my forms still get those procedure lack errors.
    I'm pretty sure I can somehow handle correcting the forms if the libraries were ok, but I just can't cope with those problems:
    -what to do about system view selects in triggers and library procedures? The compiler just treats them as unknown identifiers. I had the same problem elsewhere and it was about privileges, but this time I can't identify the user from whom those privs are read (in fact, isn't it whoever is using the form at the time?) so far I've noticed it try to use dba_users and dba_roles
    -what to do to correct a library (which can have dependencies on other libraries) to be compatible or at least compile'able with the new Forms Builder without spending a year on it all?
    I've tried applying changes mentionned in the assistants log (like changing RUN_PRODUCT calls to RP2RRO.RP2RRO_RUN_PRODUCT), but it didn't do any good

    Well for me the forms were ok to open with 11g, just had to correct differences and recompile to run.
    That there script is a ton of help!..well you forgot to mention the Output_File parameter, but I could find that myself now that I knew what to look at. Now if I could also set it not to produce .err files when everything went fine and to set the output names so that the old compiled forms get overwritten..
    the SRW.* calls turned out to be things used in Reports, so it was hopeless to compile in forms..but also not needed
    as for ENABLE_ITEM and DISABLE_ITEM I found these to use as their definitions in a library, that proved sufficient.
    procedure enable_item
    ( p_menuName in varchar2
    , p_menuItemName in varchar2
    ) is
    v_menuItem menuitem;
    begin
    v_menuItem := find_menu_item(p_menuName||'.'||
    p_menuItemName);
    if (not id_null(v_menuItem))
    and (get_menu_item_property(v_menuItem,visible) = 'TRUE')
    then
    set_menu_item_property(v_menuItem, enabled, property_true);
    end if;
    end;
    procedure disable_item
    ( p_menuName in varchar2

    What is going wrong with this?

    You'll probably get a better response on the WebLogic server forum WebLogic Server - Upgrade / Install / Environment / Migration

  • What is the impact on database transaction when migrating oracle9i to 11g?

    What is the impact in JDBC classes when migration of oracle 9i to 11g is done?
    Will there in problem with connection and transactions? Do we have to modify the classes or include new jars ?

    Certainly one possibility would be if "select *" was used and there was a presumption of what order columns were returned in regards to that.
    Will there in problem with connection and transactions? Meaning what exactly? If you attempt a migration also servicing new requests then any impact depends on how and what the migration does.
    Do we have to modify the classes or include new jars ?If you want a new driver then you would need a new jar.

  • How to consolidate data files using data pump when migrating 10g to 11g?

    We have one 10.2.0.4 database to be migrated to a new box running 11.2.0.1. The 10g database has too many data files scattered within too many file systems. I'd like to consolidate the data files into one or two large chunk in one file systems. Both OSs are RHEL 5. How should I do that using Data Pump Export/Import? I knew there is "Remap" option could be used, but it's only one to one mapping. How can I map multiple old data files into one new data file?

    hi
    datapump is terribly slow, make sure you have as much memory as possible allocated for Oracle but the bottleneck can be I/O throughput.
    Use PARALLEL option, set also these ones:
    * DISK_ASYNCH_IO=TRUE
    * DB_BLOCK_CHECKING=FALSE
    * DB_BLOCK_CHECKSUM=FALSE
    set high enough to allow for maximum parallelism:
    * PROCESSES
    * SESSIONS
    * PARALLEL_MAX_SERVERS
    more:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28319/dp_perf.htm
    that's it, patience welcome ;-)
    P.S.
    For maximum throughput, do not set PARALLEL to much more than twice the number of CPUs (two workers for each CPU).

    P.S.2
    breaking news ;-)
    I am playing now with storage performance and I turned the option of disk cache (also called write-back cache) to ON (goes at least along with RAID0 and 5 and setting it you don't lose any data on that volume) - and it gave me 1,5 to 2 times speed-up!
    Some says there's a risk of lose of more data when outage happens, but there's always such a risk even though you can lose less. Anyway if you can afford it (and with import it's OK, as it ss not a production at that moment) - I recommend to try. Takes 15 minutes, but you can gain 2,5 hours out of 10 of normal importing.
