Bcc-ing Sent Messages through Rules

I'm basically trying to replicate what my .Me account does as IMAP, which is basically keeping a record of what I send out on both the server and Mail. I've played around with "Rules" and been trying to Bcc everything I send out to a separate account, using my other account which is a POP and not IMAP. I just haven't been able to make it work that way.
Simply sending out a copy to that other account of whatever I send out. Anyone out there know what the right "Rule" for that is? Thanks!
PS: Under "Composing" there is an option to "BCC 'myself'" But doesn't let me change that, is there a way to do that?

If you're sending mail via the Mail program through MobileMe, you've already got a copy of what you sent in your Sent mailbox, so what's the point of BCCing yourself? And if you're sending mail via the web interface of MobileMe, you've got a copy of what you send through there, too. It looks like you're trying to make more work for yourself than is really necessary.
Did you try looking at the View menu in Mail for "BCC Address Field"? That displays the BCC field for every new message you send; you can't create a rule for that.

  • Mac Mail doesn't (always) find BCC of Sent messages

The MacMail search/Find feature does always display messages when searching for the bcc email address of sent messages.
It finds some, not others. I've spent some time on this but don't see any simple explanation. I wondered if it was related the formatting of the name/address with < and > characters.
A frustrating situation when you're trying to find critical info sent to freelancers.

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

  • Mail Rules Stopped Applying to Sent Messages Since October 15th 2013.

Has anyone had a similar experience, or has anyone some idea of what could be done to return the applicability of rules to sent items?
I'm using OS X's native mail client, Mail. I'm now on Mavericks but the rules that had been working for over a year suddenly stopped working on sent items on the 15th of October 2013 before I upgraded, when I was still running Mountain Lion, so it's not Mavericks' fault.
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to suggest any ideas they might have.

Thank you for the link - I had found and read that particular article while doing google research into the problem - it was only after I couldn't find a solution to (or even an explaination of) the problem that I posted this question - it's a very clear article though so I was happy to read it again.
I understand that people using Mail to handle their Gmail accounts do have all sorts of problems related, perhaps, to not having fully understood carefully researched workarounds that I remember reading and instigating for myself about 3+ years ago. As I said, this resulted in a setup that has had the flexibility to adapt itself flawlessly to my varing requirements since. Perhaps I was fortunate in this regard and I expect that, by striving to achieve my requirements by structuring mailboxes and rules to be as simple as possible, I avoided the vicissitudes that you and I have both read about.
I made no changes to my Gmail accounts, nor to Mail itself, that could have precipitated the cessation of my rules' influence on sent messages. I never use Gmail itself in fact - I only ever send and read through Mail.
I know I posted this question under the 'Mavericks' section but, as I tried to make clear, the problem was not caused by upgrading to Mavericks - it started before then. I had not tried any of the betas, nor did I knowingly install any upgrade of Mail prior to the change in behaviour (I upgrade manually).
In short, whilst I would not expect Mail to apply rules to messages sent directly with Gmail (since Mail would have to read them back in again through IMAP, successfully recognise them as 'sent' and then retrospectivly apply rules), I do expect it to be able to continue applying rules to its own sent messages.

  • Message rule for sent messages

    Hi,
I have successfully converted and repaired all my Outlook Express mail to Apple Mail 3.5 with Emailchemy. I have aprox 450 folders and 5000 mails. I have used more than 200 rules to organize my incoming messages but I cannot find the way to store "sent messages" in the right folder. I don´t want to store my replies in sent messages. I need my reply inside the folder where the message rule previously stored my incoming message. is it possible?
    Warmest regards,

    There are several possibilities.
The simplest of course is not to bother. When you reply to a message, Mail puts a link (a little anti-clockwise curved arrow) in the status column of the original message, and clicking on that brings up the reply.
You could set up Smart mailboxes. This would leave the replies in the Sent mailbox, but also make them visible in the appropriate Smart box. The rules for the various Smart boxes would have to be designed to pick up both original messages and replies.
If you really must get the replies into the same folder as the originals, you will need some sort of Applescript. You could for example have a Mail rule, fired by any incoming message, which runs an script to look at all messages in the Sent box, and identifies the box to move each to. How is your scripting?
Another script-based possibility is to have a script to generate the replies. Since it would know which box it was working from, it would know which box to put the reply in, and it would require less maintenance (as your requirements change) than the previous.
Perhaps the best solution for you, requiring the least effort, would be to use the Mail option to automatically CC (or BCC) yourself. The resulting copy is an incoming message - so your 200 rules should pick it up and move it to the appropriate mail box.

  • I can't see the recipients/addresses in the bcc field in Mail sent messages

I'm looking to double-check the recipients in an email I sent, but it's not showing the bcc line in the sent message. I've never had this problem before... Have recently upgraded my Macbook Pro and updated Mavericks (10.9.2) and now using Mail 7.2. Any ideas how to get the bcc field to show??

    Hi,
I've attached screenshots of the default settings below. The settings are in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Content'''
Alternatively you can try to start Firefox in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode?s=safe+mode&r=0&as=s Safe Mode] and in the first screen choose '''Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults''' and click '''Make Changes and Restart''', but this would reset all your settings in addition to those of fonts and colors.

  • I am unable to see bcc addresses in sent message

bcc addresses do not show in Mail sent messages.  Recommended solutions from other posts have not solved the issue.

I have the same problem. It was working before. I sent a message with addresses in BCC in November, and I can still see those addresses. I sent one this week and I cannot see any.
I sent one email without any address in the TO just a bucnh of addresses in BCC. I can see only one of the addresses in the BCC, and it is not even the first one in the list.
After I updated to Mail 7.2 I tested it again. The previous emails were sent using a gmail account (IMAP). I tested with the same gmail account and another non-gmail IMAP account. Now I can see the BCC addresses in the gmail but not the other.
It seem sto be erratic and frustrating.

  • Rule to mark sent messages read

As some other people have noted in the forums, since I've upgraded to Leopard all my sent messages are getting marked as Unread for some reason I gave up trying to understand and/or fix.
So I was thinking of creating a rule to mark all sent messages as Read.
    How could I accomplish that?

don't know if this would work but you could try in mail>preferences>rules: "date sent" "is less than" and choose "1", then perform the following... "mark as read".
rules are applied to incoming messages so that new rule would not automatically apply to your sent mailbox. you would have to go to your sent mailbox once in a while, then select the emails you would like the rule to be applied to, then go to the menu message>apply rules.
if you have more than one rule and do not want other rules applied to these sent messages, then before applying the rule, you would have to go to mail>preferences>rules and mark as inactive the other rules, leaving only the above one as active.
a bit tedious workaround i admit and maybe other users may have a more elegant solution.
    hope this helps

  • Sent messages never go through and keep saying wil...

My wifes Nokia N79 has recently started putting sent messages in her outbox saying that it will try to re-send then fails to send them at all. She got the phone 2nd hand which was originally on T-Mobile network but she is on O2. I have tried taking her sim card out and putting in my phone and it works fine.
She has had a couple of messages back form a few people saying that they got the same message 45 times yet she never gets a delivery report! Does anyone know if this is a handset issue rather than a network issue or have any advice whatsoever?

  • Make Sent messages go to different folder??

How do I get a sent message to automatically go to a particular folder other than the Sent folder?

I don't think you can. However, you could set up Mail Prefs to automatically BCC yourself, then make a rule that said "if sender=you, then move message to such-and-such folder". The shortcoming of this approach is that if you have other BCC recipients besides yourself, that information, which would normally be visible in messages in the sent folder, would be lost. However, if you know how to do apple scripting, when that message arrived, rather than move it, maybe you could launch an apple script that moved any messages in the sent folder to such-and-such folder (which would be occurring only one at a time).

  • Problem in Message Processing Rules

    Hi All,
I have created Webservice(URL) for an transaction through Message Processing rule, with server name: 'XMIIMESSAGELISTENER'
    URL: http://<IP Address>/XMII/Illuminator?Service=WSMessageListener&mode=WSMessageListenerServer&NAME=Shop_order_data&XacuteLoginName=<username>&XacuteLoginPassword=<passwrd>
Above URL or transaction has 1 input(XML) and 1 output(string)
As it tested from Oracle system, its working fine and updating all the data and saving xml file in MII DB.
As it save data in MII, it will send success message(string) in the output parameter of transaction.
This message has to send back Oracle system
Issues is, they are not recieving success message.
Is Message Process rule wont return any value or message from MII transaction to other system?
    Please help me on this
    Thanks,
    Kind Regards,
    Praveen Reddy M

    Hi Praveen
The WSMessageListener HTTP Service does not process the incoming message immediately.
What you have done in MII.
    1. Created a MII Transaction with an Input Param type XML and an Output Param Type String.
    2. Configure the Transaction in MII Processing Rules for WSMessageListener server.
    3. Sent XML Message to URL http://<IP Address>/XMII/Illuminator?Service=WSMessageListener&mode=WSMessageListenerServer&NAME=Shop_order_data&XacuteLoginName=<username>&XacuteLoginPassword=<passwrd>
    What happens in the system:
    1. MII WSMessageListener receives the XML Message and stores the message in MII DB.
    2. It invokes the processing rule and runs the transaction that was configured for it.
    3. Message status is set to Success.
This means that MIIWSMessageListener does not run the Transaction immediately upon receiving the XML Message. Hence the response of the Transaction output is not sent to the sender application. The reason for this is that the WSMessageListener service is treated as an asynchronous service where the sender does not care about the response of the receiver.
If this is not what you want then you can run your transaction in one of the following ways:
    1. http://<host:<port>/XMII/Runner?Transaction=<project/folder/trx name>&OutputParameter=<paramname>
    2. with a Soap Message to the URL http://<host>:<port>/XMII/SoapRunner/<Transaction full path>. Please note that this service expects a SOAP Message and not just an XML payload.
    Hope this helps you.
    Regards
    Partha

  • Messages sent on iPhone not displaying correctly in Entourage sent messages

Hi. I was really looking forward to "full Exchange support" on my iPhone, but am unhappy to report that that's not what I've got. When I send messages from my iPhone and Entourage imports them into the sent messages folder via Active Sync, the messages show up with no subject, no recipient, and the body of them just looks like a bunch of code!
The sent messages do show up fine in my iPhone, as well as when I log into my online Exchange site... this seems to be an issue exclusively with Entourage. Well, all Mac users utilizing Exchange are limited to Entourage... is this a problem for everyone? I found a Microsoft story on this, but it references Entourage 2004- I'm using the latest version in '08. Here's the link to the story:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926521
Any light anyone could shed on this would be much appreciated! It's hard for me to accept that it's just a bug that's been known about for several years, but never fixed. Thanks!

This does not appear to be iPhone-specific. It is an issue with ActiveSync in general, as that KB document explains. This happens with any phone using ActiveSync.
A very hacky workaround is to choose the setting to automatically Bcc yourself on all sent messages, then set up a rule in Entourage to move messages from yourself to the Sent folder.

  • Sent messages not saving on Exchange server

Does anyone know how to get emails sent from an MS Exchange account in Mail 8.2 to save (either in Sent folder on local machine or preferably on the Exchange server)?
"Store sent messages on the server" is selected, but this doesn't work on any of my Exchange accounts. Mail is set to automatically maintain exchange account settings. At the moment I'm BCC'ing all sent messages to myself and then dragging them into the relevant Sent folder, which is syncing with server so I can see messages on other computers, but this isn't really satisfactory long term. The problem has only arisen since "upgrading" to Yosemite.

Something is wrong with the Mail app the last week and half or so.  Messages are disappearing, not getting synched, don't stay in the saved folders they are moved to, jump back at later dates (even days later) to the original inboxes, etc.  Very unstable and unreliable.  It was working better for a few months before this latest update, but is an absolutely messy nightmare right now. Changes made in Apple Mail are not getting reflected in other mail apps or on the external mail servers in a reliable, usefull manner.  Some do, some don't.   Use another mail app until Apple gets this fixed.

  • Filing sent messages real-time

A new & happy iMac owner, i am organizing and just set up Mail folders. While it is easy to file incoming messages into my folders, I can't find an easy (i.e. one-click) way to file my sent messages that I want to retain in a folder. After sending, I am going to the Sent folder, highlighting a message, and copying it to a folder. At work, Outlook has a Send&File option to use when sending the original. I have read about Smart Mailboxes, but that doesn't answer to me. What am I missing? Thanks for any advice.

You’re missing nothing. This is a well-known Mail shortcoming. Mail applies rules automatically to incoming messages only. There are at least three ways to work around this limitation:
    (1) Apply the rules manually every so often by selecting the messages in Sent and doing Message > Apply Rules.
    (2) Go to Preferences > Composing and check Automatically [Bcc] myself, so that the rules are applied automatically to the copies received. If you do this, you may also want to set Mail to erase copies of sent messages after a certain amount of time in Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors.
    (3) Use Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts’ Filter Sent Messages script to make Mail apply the rules automatically to your sent messages as well.

  • Lion Mail creates a new folder in Yahoo Mail called "Sent Messages"

For some reason, since updating to 10.7.5, Mail no longer puts sent messages into the proper "Sent" folder of my Yahoo accounts. It creates a new folder in Yahoo Mail called "Sent Messages" and stores them there. This new folder is only visible from iOS devices' Mail or by logging into Yahoo through a web browser. Lion Mail doesn't sync this new folder, for whatever reason.
Just curious if anyone else is experiencing this or has found a fix.

Okay, thanks to nobody for their help.  But I figured it out anyway.  Somehow there was a rule which had the "if-then" result of "move to (my wife's name) mailbox" -- so when such an email arrived, Mail would have to create the (previously-deleted) mailbox in order to follow the rule.  So I just deleted that rule.
