BCM interfacing to a Nortel CS1000E

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with integrating a BCM with a Nortel CS1000E. The CS1000E is a VoIP PBX and is capable of SIP and H.323. I was wondering if I could use my CS1000E in lieu of a third party media gateway such as a Mediant 2000 SIP gateway for inbound and outbound calls to our voice network and the PSTN.
thanks in advance
Kevin

Hi David,
Have you tried starting the CDT with the loglevel=5 URL and looked at the client logs as well as connection server (bcmcs..) logs? Might help spot the problem.
See the SAP note 1753607 - BCM 7.0 How to change server and client loglevels if you need guidance with the log level settings.

  • Cisco 15454 2F BLSR interoperability with the Nortel LH combiner platform

Help anyone, my problem is the following:
The company I work for is interfacing with another company that is running a 2 Fiber BLSR topology with the ONS 15454. This device will be interfacing with our existing Nortel LH combiner platform running version 2.0. When we dicussed this application with Nortel, they told us that the Cisco 15454 will not interface with the Nortel LH combiner cards due to the fact that the Cisco 15454 two fiber BLSR implementation is proprieitary and not standards compliant in that it requires use of the K1 byte of the second STS-1. Basically, the Nortel combiner cards are not transparent to the second STS-1, so the K1 value input is losted. They claim they did not have this issue with other vendors' BLSR SONET devices, just Cisco's 15454.
Another way they decribed the problem was: "The Nortel LH combiner cards do not work with the 15454 BLSR topology because of a proprietary overhead usage conflict. The Cisco product uses an undefined overhead byte for a BLSR check sum which conflicts with Nortel combiner mapping of tributary defined overhead into unused overhead of the aggregate line."
I do not know what software version Nortel was running when they did this testing with the ONS 15454, but I thought maybe someone has heard this one before and that maybe Cisco corrected this problem with a later release. Help anyone!

    K3 Byte remapping is required...
"The ONS 15454 uses the K3 overhead byte for BLSR automatic protection switching (APS) to allow an ONS 15454 BLSR to have more than 16 nodes. If a BLSR is routed through third-party equipment that cannot transparently transport the K3 byte, you can remap it to either the Z2, E2, or F1 bytes on OC48AS cards."
Cisco allows more than 16 nodes in a BLSR but the K1 byte only has 4 bits available for 16 nodes. Cisco has extended this range of Node IDs which is proporietary to Cisco. However, I believe if the ring does not exceed 16 nodes then the 15454 complies to Telcordia standards...

  • Using Trunking 1.3 to create a trunk accross two switches

    Hi:
I have installed Solaris Trunking 1.3 on my SF 880 which is running Solaris 10. It has two CE interfaces which i have configured in one trunk. Failover works fine when I connect them to a single Nortel 8000 switch. The problem is that I can't get failover working properly when I connect one CE interface to a Nortel 8000 switch and the other CE interface to another Nortel 8000 switch. Should this work? I have seen many references, eg in the Solaris Trunking 1.3 documentation, that actually says you can't create a trunk accross switches but i also found BUG ID 5079123 which says you can.
By the way I can't use the version of trunking software that is bundled with Solaris 10 because it doesn't support the CE interfaces.
    Cheers
    Steve

Thanks for your reply. I should have mentioned that i don't need load balencing over the trunk to work. I just need failover to work. In fact that is just what the bug id says i should be able to do across two switches. Here's a copy of the bug id:
    Bug ID: 5079123
Synopsis: Trunking 1.3 to support L2 failover across switches
    Category: enet_trunking
    Subcategory: softwareState: 10-Fix Delivered
Description: Due to overwhelming requests to support L2 failover solution for Sun NIC across two switches. This is not trunking or Link aggregation feature as it breaks the standard of all trunk members connect to one switch.
    Requirements are :
    1. provide Layer 2 failover similar to IPMP(layer 3) and yet be simple enough to configure.
    2. No loadbalancing.
    3. Connect across two switches. and when one switch/nic fails, the traffic moves seemlessly and instantly.
    4. Failback: When the failed link is back online, traffic moves back to original link. Date Modified: 2004-09-08 06:13:32 GMT+00:00

  • E Series & Nortel BCM IP Phone

    Hi,
I was reading that certain E Series phones, such as the E61i, can connect to IP PABX systems. We have a Nortel Business Communications Manager (BCM 50), that has VoIP, we've got some VoIP headset, and have some softphone software installed on our laptops to use with this. But I was wondering if anyone knew whether the E Seiries would would with a Nortel BCM system? And if so, how?
Any help, or suggestions much appreciated.
    Ben

The E Series phones use a protocol called SIP to connect to VoIP servers. The Nortel BCM uses a proprietary VoIP protocol called UNIStim. I have heard that a new BCM load is coming out in the future that will support SIP. I don't know how it works or how far in the future that BCM SIP will be available.
I have recently been working on a portion of the ESeries porfolio (E61, E61i, E65, and E90) using the Nortel MCS5100 SIP. It has been rather successful.

  • ACS-4.1 - doesn't display Radius(Nortel) in Interface configuration

We have one ACS running over Windows that we can see the Radius(Nortel) option in Interface Configuration.
Have anyone treated with this issue?

That is probably because you have no AAA device configured for Radius (Nortel). IF you configure one, it will appear in the interface configuration

  • Cisco Switches, Nortel Voice

We are in the process of deploying Nortel BCM's and IP enabled Option 11's (?). The TLAN traffic seems to be marked ok. The ELAN traffic is not being marked at all. Can I classify traffic at the interface? Or will I have to create ACL's to classify the traffic? Also I was only configuring an "output" service -policy. Should I be creating an "input" service-policy as well? I can upload my QoS policy if it will help. I will also need to shape traffic across T1's and Qwest Metro Ethernet. I could use some help on figuring out the correct "shape average" command. All assistance is greatly appreciated. New to QoS.

Start by getting the DVD in the server and following the install wizard, then you can proceed to configure the AS5400 as an H323 GW.

  • CUCM 8.6 QSIG to Nortel Option 81 No Caller ID

Working on an H.323 QSIG trunk to Nortel Option 81. Everything is working except caller ID on local calls. Cisco phones making local (7digit) calls only display the lead trunk (BTN) number for caller ID. Long distance calls display the correct caller ID. The Nortel has a separate local and LD trunks. Nortel phones have correct caller id displayed for both local and LD calls.

So it apprears to be something on the Nortel side??? What can I check on the Nortel to see how these two calls are recieved and routed to the locan and LD trunks.

Have you had any luck solving this issue?
I am having the exact same problem.  What I have found is that the local provider is saying that the number is not coming across in E.164 format which then appears to them as an unknown number so they just append either the main phone number to the caller ID or sometimes the phone number associated with billing contact.  The nortel works just fine in both senarios, but there seems to be something lost in translation between the Cisco and Nortel.   So far I haven't been able to find a setting to fix this.

  • Swift Net MT-103 Interface with SAP

    Hello all,
I am having a hard time to understand the concept and reason to use the Swiftnet MT103 (Outgoing Payment).
1)At what point I will consider MT103 solution versus EDI820 (Outgoing Payment)?
2)What will be the considerations I need to take place when I am creating the Functional Design of this interface with SAP?
3)What will be the steps I need to take on the config side?
4)Do I need to setup inbound interface as well for confirmation once I sent the MT103 file?
5)DME will be only solution that produce this format?
6)Please provide me the File structure of MT103?
I would appreciate your prompt response since I need to represent this to the client.
    Thanks

    Hi
It is a good practice to know the status of payment file rather than waiting for the bank to call. Yes, if need be, you will need to create an inbound interface.
Many things would depend on the method of communcation with banks you choose (i.e. direct connection or value added network), which needs to be secure and encrypted. SWIFTnet is a product that SWIFT offers to allow companies to build a single connection to SWIFT net and connect to thousands of banks around the globe. I am not sure whether this is a valid scenario for your project. Obviously, there is a cost implication attached to it.
If you are using BCM module, you would need to use a format created in Payment media workbench for MT103 and PI to faciliate the file mapping, conversion, encryption and secure transmission to your bank. In this case, you would build an inbound interface for Status/Confirmation from bank into BCM for Batch monitor.
while if you are not using BCM module, you would map IDOC to MT103. in this case, you would build an Inbound Interface to manage the confirmation message from bank. I have worked on this sort of interface development and developed a report output for users to run.
    Hope that this helps

  • 802.1x and MS IAS and Nortel IP phone

    hi,
i have setup 802.1x MS IAS. All seems to work fine when i am using a plain pc connection to switch but the moment IP phone is involved i start facing issues.

when the phone is plugged and cable is throug the phone, i provide the user name and credentials and also when i say show vlan on switch i can see i am aprt of corrent vlan but i do not get an ip address.
This is the error i get on switch when is said debug radius:

    Hi Adil,
I'm testing with a Catalyst 3560 running IOS version 12.2(44)SE2.
I have a Nortel-LG IP phone which does not have 802.1x supplicant.
I tried configuring MDA on the switchport and use MAB to authenticate the phone.
    My questions:
    1. In the ACS, I created a group for the IP phone and specify "device-traffic-class=voice" as the cisco-av-pair. Is this what I should be doing for a non-Cisco phone?
    2. I know the phone's MAC address is 00-40-5A-17-C6-30. I created a user 00405a17c630 (password is also 00405a17c630) and assign it to the IP phone group I created above. Is this correct?
My testing wasn't successful. I got the following output:

  • Is possible to Integrate SAP BCM with Third party?

    Hello Everyone,
Some of you can tell me if Is possible to integrate SAP BCM with another solution IBM ITSM?
The integration would also have the screen pop up the same or similar to SAP CRM.
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards
    Rodrigo Lucas

    Hi Rodrigo,
    There is the ClientCOM interface!
The interface is an application programming interface (API) to a softphone client Communication
Desktop (CDT). This client application is based on the Microsoft Internet Explorer, and they can
handle telephone calls by using the VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology.
This interface defines a subset of the events and commands that are important to third-party
developers. Currently it is used finding out who is calling, and making outbound calls, playing
    files to outbound callers.
You can download ClientCOM interface document in SAP Marketplace.

  • Nortel VS Cisco CME

I have a client who liked Cisco initially but now likes Nortel IP-PBX.

What about applications? Is Nortel BCM Proprietary? Does it allow thir party integration for Phone applications?
    Our main concerns are:
    1. Management of the system.
    2. Reliability.
    3. Need for third party application integration.
    4. What is the value of BCM vs CME?
Our company has 120 phones at the moment. But that number will increase to 180 in next 2 years. We may not reach 240 in next 5-7 years. So we are condidering call Manager express solution. Initially we were looking at Call Manager solution but got some bad feedback about the CCM. Is CCM 5.0 reliable?
What does CCM provide that CME does'nt ?
We will be adding 15 warehouse locations in the future. But each location will have 2 users. There will be 2 Analog lines for these locations and may be use Softphone through VPN tunnel. We do not have point to point T-1's for remote locations. Just a Internet T-1 for VPN tunnel to main location.

  • Cisco ACS & Nortel Equipment

    Hi,
I have a client who has a mostly Nortel network who requires a RADIUS and TACACS+ authentication system to work with Nortel and Cisco equipment to authenticate administrative logins.
Does any one know please if an ACS appliance or the Windows verison 4.2 will be able to provide RADIUS/TACACS+ to both Cisco and Nortel equipment without any major configuration work?
Thanks very much for your help.
    Darrel

On ACS server, we have Radius[Nortel] Attributes.
You have to configure the " Nortel switches " as AAA client on ACS server. The configuration on switch config should be :
On ACS server > Network Config > under AAA client :
    - AAA client name = Switch
    - AAA client IP address = IP address of switch
    - Shared secret key = secret key on switch
    - Authentication Protocol = Radius[Nortel]
Then you need to enable nortel attributes
ACS--->Interface configuration--->Nortel. Enable attributes you need.
Now in group you need to check these attributes
    Regards.
