BCS Balance carryforwrd

When I execute the balance carryforward in the first period of new year, it executes the function and shows the log for executed data.
When I check it in list cube for the period in which it the balance carry data is available, the period cell is blank.
Does it carry forward to period '0' or '1' period.  Why the period informaiton is blank in the balance carry forward function.
Regards,

Hi Mani,
Balances are carried forward into period 000:

  • SEM: BCS Balance Carry Forward - Concept of Period 00

    Gurus:
Wants to clear a concept with you. Say for example at the end of Period 12, 2006,
    B/S Account 1: $100,000
    Retained Earnings: $ 200,000
And only for the Period 1, 2007:
    B/S Account 1: $200 (this is a periodic value)
    And Net Profit: $15
Now let’s assume the Retained Earnings of Current Month = RE Last Month + Net Profit.
Now if we don’t do a Balance Carry forward after Period 12 close and before Period 1 close, I will be getting this only for Period 1,
    B/S Account 1: $200
    Retained Earnings: $15
But if we do a BCF after Period 12 close and before Period 1 close, I will be getting this only for Period 1,
    B/S Account 1: $100,200
    Retained Earnings: $200,015
So the BCS gets the value in period 00 and in backend add it to period 1 to give a cumulative period 1. Period 00 is a virtual place holder for this and not be available for reporting.
    Am I correct?
    Thanks for your time spent,
    Regards,
    Arpan

    Thanks Eugene!
I am sure you are correct, but not able to understand the answer for my this question from the thread you mentioned. Was thinking of BCS & period 00 concept and trying to confirm my understanding. Sorry for not able to pick up the loose thread. Still open..
    Sincerely,

  • Balance Sheet Data question

I have a BCS balance sheet that is only pulling current month data but it should be YTD. What do i need to modify in the query to make it pull in YTD instead of current month?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Paul,
    My 2p  to voddi's info:
To get YTD use a range on the posting period: from 000 to reporting month. The latter might be either a SAP-exit or user entry variable.
    Hope this helps.

  • Balance scorecard material or documentation

    Hi everybody,
I need material or documentation about the following topics:
    - Platform required to have the Balance Scorecard.  We have the ECC5.0 (ERP 2004) version and we haven't seen these tools (Which includes SAP_BW 3.5 component).  If I'm not wrong the SAP module is SEM-CPM but I don't know what do we have to do to have it in our system.
    - Steps required to build a Balance Scorecard from a system which only has installed the FI-CO modules.
    Thanks in advance.
    Ismael

    Hi
The SEM BSC (Balanced scorecard ) is a BW add -in. The SEM BSC exists as a componernt on a BW datawarehouse.
So ask you basis about your BW installation.
After a Bw installation you could install and populate the standard business content ( infocubes, extractor,s etc)  that are going to populate your SEM BCS balance scorecard environment.
THe BSC are basically a type of view on BW KPI - technically Key figures...
Check this useful link on the SAP Balanced Scorecard implementation process

  • How SEM BCS handled balance carried forward?

    Hi,
I would like to find out how SEM BCS handled balance carried forward?
    Income statement
    Profit after Tax - 50
    Balance Sheet
Retained profit (last year) - 100
    Current Year profit - 50
How do i configurate 'Profit after Tax' = 'Current Year profit' in workbench? Is BCS going to store the computed results?
Balance items (ie  'Retained profit (last year)' and 'Current Year profit') by default are carry forward to next year in BCS.
Do i need to configurate  'Current Year profit' add to 'Retained profit (last year)'?
    Pls advise.
    Thanks.
    Regards, Renee

    Hi Renee,
By default, the balance sheet items are to be carried forward to next year. If you don’t make any settings, both items, Retained profit (last year) and Current Year profit will be transferred to themselves, that is not correct.
You need to show the system which items are to be carried forward not to themselves.
To force the system to make the proper transfer, in UCWB go to Consolidation Functions -> Balance Carryforward -> Items to be Carried Forward.
    Enter there the following information:
    <b>Orig. Item__________Debit Item_______Credit Item</b>
Current Year profit____RE (last year)_____RE (last year)
Do the similar operation for all items to be carried to other than themselves items, for example dividends of the current and last years etc.
    Hope this helps.

  • SEM-BCS Statistical FS Items (Statistical: Balance and Statistical: Flow)

    Hi,
SEM-BCS 4.0 and SEM-BCS 6.0 both have 2 types of Statistical FS Item (Financial Statement item); "Statistical: Balance" and "Statistical: Flow".
I note that these are treated differently, e.g. in Balance Carryforward task, Statistical: Balance are carried forward automatically while Statistical: Flow are not.
My question is, what is the difference between these statistical item types?
And what are they (or could they be) used for?

    Hi,
I'll try to explain you like the following:
Balance is a value that is derived from beginning balance plus movement. Flow is the movement itself.
Trial balance is an example of balance, while movement type is an example of flow.
When you do balance carry forward, system add all the flow type that you define to make a balance, and carry forward the balance only.
    Hope it helps.

  • BCS - Re-translation of the balance sheet rates

    Hello colleagues,
I have a question regarding the transalation of balance sheet rates in a BCS system.
Concerning foreign currency translation in SAP BCS system:
The current plan for SAP go live is to translate items in the income statement at the daily transaction rate in SAP and then re-translate the balance sheet only at the month end closing rate in BCS for Group reporting purposes in EUPO.
There is some disagreement on this approach - one opinion is that we should use BCS to re-translate our income statement at the monthly average FX rate and the balance sheet at the closing rate.
Would it be possible to advise on the best approach?
    Kind regards,
    David

This is a choice for the group accountants / users, not the implementaiton team.
You can tell them that either is possible in BCS, which one do they want?
As Dan says USGAAP has a specific requirement, do they report in USGAAP or IFRS (or something else)?
    I have seen both solutions.

  • BCS: Validation TC balance check

    Hi all,
just bumped into a problem with the manual postings: Users are able to insert values in LC and TC.
For TC it is possible to give a balance for this posting unequal 0. That should not happen.
BCS doesn't check that. So we tried to create a validation rule for all posting balances in TC. Of course the system checks that for LC... It didn't work yet...
Has someone a hint or experience in this? Didn't find any in the forum yet.
    Best Regards

    Benjamin
    just had a quick look at this and got this to work by;
create validation method, Documents, Data Rows are Totaled
    create validation rule - TC_PER( TB ) = 0
where TB = all FS Items.
    create error message.
    Assign method to doc type.
Note the validation did not kick in until the "check" was executed on the document.

  • BCS error: Trial balanc enot equals zero

When I run the task to validate data in BCS, it says "trial balance not equals zero for one company code".
    Any ideas?
    Ravi T

    HI Ravi
    Possibilities are:
    01. Wrongly posting of Transactions accounts in GL a/c of Trial Balance
    02. Wrongly importing the values from external files like...XLs
(Please verify the values of Negative Posting Items if any the each GL head of Trial balance Accounts)
    03. Picking up of Historical Aged Trial Blance figures( uncheck the HATB) options if any, on the same CompanyCode which has been already gerated for that period.
Every GL a/c in Trial Balance account has the-- Type of Accounts(Assets or Liabi), Opening Balance, and current day transactions details (debit or credit value). the summation of opening balance, current day transactions(+/-) must be equal to closing balance of the account on that day.
    just FYI:
In double-entry accounting requires the sum of all debit accounts to equal the sum of all credit accounts, a trial balance is required to verify correctness. The trial balance is a list of accounts and their balances at a point in time. When preparing a trial balance, three steps are needed:
1.You must list each account title and the amount accrued in the trial balance. If an account has a zero balance, just list it with a zero in the normal balance column.
2.Next you must calculate the total amount of the debit balance, as well as, the total credit balance.
3.Last you verify that the total debit balance is equal to the total credit balance.
If the total debit balance and total credit balance are not equal then there must be an error that needs correction. If the credits and debits do appear equal on the trial balance, it still does not guarantee that no errors were made. The main goal of the trial balance sheet is to report whether the account balances are reported in the appropriate debit or credit columns and to allow for future reference of financial statements
Hope this will help you in functioanl aspect.
    Thanks & Regards

Thanks Eugene for replying, i checked the items all they are balance sheet type. I load to BCS some information for example in 1-st period of fiscal year with item "X" which did not carryedforward before. After I do task "balance carryforward" the task is succesfull by the item "X".

  • BPS Allocation (BCS) using Debit/Credit (no balance available)

    Hello,
BPS allocation seams to expect a balance instead of debit credit sign.
We are using debit and credit sign in Planning (0DB_CR_IND). This seams to be the reason why allocation can not be used in SAP standard. We would need to program an individual allocation program. Is this correct?
    Lets make an example
    Cost Center A
    Credit: 50 Euro
should be allocated 100% to another cost center B.
    Debit: 0 Euro
The allocation function would post the following
    Cost Center A
    Credit: -50 Euro
which is wrong, because the costs would disappear from Cost Center A
It would be necessary to post
    Cost Center A
    DEBIT: +50 Euro
Is there any possibility to use SAP standard to allocate with consideration of debit/credit sign?
If not we would create a temporally key figure, calculate the balance and then distribute with allocation. Afterwards we would post the distributed amounts back to the key figure with consideration of debit/credit sign. But this solution seams to be far away from SAP standard.
    Does anyone have any comments?
    Thanks in advance

  • Balance carryforward in SAP SEM BCS

Consilidation begins by carrying forward the data of the prior year.
But what is the reason for this ?

    Hi Nick,
Many operations in consolidation are carrying out on cumulative basis, i.e. we need to know balances on the year beginning. That's why we need to carryforward as the first operation. Carryforward places the balances in 00 period.
    Best regards,

  • SEM-BCS (BW Reporting)

    Hi All,
I would like to know how SEM-BCS stores data (balance values) in BW cube. If I have to generate a B/S report, how would I restrict the Key Figure to show balance as of the 2nd quarter?  The issue is the ranging of the Posting Period.  Is it (4 to 6) or 6(Last month of quarter) or (1 to 6)?
    Thank.

it depends what you want. you want to show cumulative balance or non-cumulative balance from ytd.
since it is balance sheet, i would assume u r refereing to the cumulative balance from ytd ( which also includes the balance carry forward.)
in that you can restrict it to period 1 through 6.
    other case:
you report only shows the monthly balances or transactions in the month. then you can go for period restriction period 6.
    hope this helps.
