BCS / Cartesis / BPC (Outlooksoft)

Hi all,
at the moment there is much blabla about BO and BPC. Actually none can tell information with substance. A good friend of mine told me after an Outlooksoft-training it wouldn't be suitable for consolidation. In fact, the trainer told us that. Does anyone have some more (facts!) about this topic?
thanks in advance

This is similar feedback to those who compare Hyperion to BCS (I have often replaced Hyperion with BCS)
The challenge is that the accountants who use the BCS get frustrated that they can't 'fudge' numbers in BCS because there are strict controls such as authorisations, breakdown categories validations etc. (eg one client I had wouldn't even allow manual journals direct in BCS and another client locked down all ad hoc reports in BI), .
Also you cannot argue with the results of automatic functions such as Currency Translation, Eliminations and CoI (assuming the config is correct of course!).
Whereas in Hyperion (and it sounds like Cartesis/Magnitude is similar) is appears that they can manually change results and adjust reports as and when required, with very few of these controls.
However, this is exactly what organisations do NOT need - they need one version of the truth only;
- there should be controls on what can be posted/adjusted in the system
- reports should have the same result no matter who runs them
Anyone agree/disagree?

  • Difference between BCS and BPC

    Hi Experts,
Can Someone explain me what is the difference between BCS and BPC.
    Thanks in Advance

BCS is developed by SAP and uses BW for the data storage, as well as other BW objects for master data and virtual infocubes with imbedded consolidations logic for reporting. This is, in my opinion, the most dynamic consolidations too and best for more complex scenarios.
BPC is the purchased Outlooksoft tool that does not until recently include the use of BW, and is better for simple consolidations scenarios.
SAP can provide more information regarding both.
There is yet another tool, previously know as Cartesis, and now called SAP Financial Consolidations. This is also better than BPC for complex scenarios.

Some of the planning functions require script writing or coding. ABAper is helpful in creating such codes.
In our scenario, ABAPers created the conversion/ transformation as per mapping prepared by the Functional Consultant.
The functional / business users do upload and download of data (imports and exports) wherever required.

    Not for the moment.
This because the product is still into RampUp. Only after the general release we can speak about the possibility to have a trial version.

  • BPC(OutlookSoft) and IFRS

    Hi all,
I'd need to know if there's any template that could help an implementation team to develop the consolidation processes to comply with IFRS. I know there are several BPC (OutlookSoft) implementations in Europe that comply with IFRS reporting standards.
Is there anyone who can share this information, perhaps from the European consulting team, about some templates (guidelines, reports, etc) ?
    Thanks!
    Diego.

    Hi,
Our company has been around for several years now and we come from an OutlookSoft background. We have been implementing IFRS applications on OutlookSoft and we have our own standard. Check on cfobelux.com and drop me a mail (use the contact page)

  • From BCS to BPC

    Hi Folks:
Someone  have reference or "how to"  Migrate CONCOLIDATION from BCS to BPC?
    Thanks in edvance....
    Noé

    Hi,
The migration cannot be done directly, as the structures are quite different in BCS and BPC. I would request you to go through the  Application help available on SAP Marketplace. This guide will give you some insights on the various business rules which are used for doing the consolidation. In addition to this, BPC 340 will give you a good understanding of configuring consolidation on BPC on NW platform.
    Hope this helps.

  • Data migration from OutlookSoft 4.2 version to BPC 7MS

A quick search on this topic did not yield any results.  We're currently in the process of pilot testing our BPC 7MS installation. Our production system is OutlookSoft 4.2.
We would like to keep the BPC data in synch with our production 4.2 system. Has anyone done this before? What is the most optimal approach?
Is it as simple as dumping all the rows from the BPC FACT tables and repopulating the tables with the 4.2 FACT table rows? Or do I have to use the BPC/OutlookSoft data manager packages to export and import the data?

    Hi Hitesh,
We have done migration activities. From the data perspective, it is not very difficult to manage. When you are doing the migration, you take the backup of the production, and then proceed with the migration activities. Keep testing your new BPC 7.0 environment. Once satisfied, and you want to finalize it, then you can take the final member list from the OS prod system and update in the BPC. So, no troubles, even if there are frequent changes in the metadata. You update that in BPC as a one time activity and then going forward, OS system will be scrapped.
As already indicated, BPC doesnt allow you to store data at parent nodes, which was feasible in OS. So, you need to be little cautious about that. The SQL script shared is incomplete, You need to use
    Select * from tblfact<appname> where <dimensionID> not in (select <dimensionID> from mbr<dimensionname> where calc = 'N')
For example, Select * from tblfactEPS where TIMEID not in (select timeid from mbrTIME where calc = 'N')
The above statement needs to be used in all the fact, fac2, and factwb tables of all the applications, and all the dimensions. However, I would suggest that you first run the migration. During the step where you process the applications, you will get an error if you have any records in the parent node.
There is a very detailed document published by me on migration activities on SDN. You can search for it. It will give you all the details.
    Hope this helps.

  • BPC Problems with Park and Go with Worksheet Protection

    Hi all,
I've been working with BPC/Outlooksoft for several years now but this issue has got me stumped, any help is appeciated!
Park and Go gives a u201CSubscript out of Rangeu201D error when Park and Go is
activated when the workbook has been protected via the eTools>Workbook
    Options function.
When the password is removed the Park and Go function performs
    as expected.
I have double checked Macro and Trusted Source security
settings, both "Trues all addins and templates" and "Trust access to
visual basic project" are checked. (additionally I noticed that in 4.2
Outlooksoft would normally be listed as a Trusted Publisher, but notice
in 5.1 installs that is no longer the case.)
    BPC 5.1 SP3
I have tested this in 2 different environments with the same results.  If you can I would appreciate a response that validates my findings so that I can understand if this is a BPC product issue or not.
    Steps to reproduce:
    eSubmit>open dynamic scedule templates
    Account-Trend
    eTools>Workbook Options
Set Worksheet Password (set and confirm password)
    eTools>Park and Go Offline
Error Message: Subscrpt out of range
Edited by: Brian Tyson on Jul 29, 2008 3:48 PM

    Brian,
I have found a workaround to your error:
    open a dynamic template
put on security via etools-workbook options
    remove security using tools-protection-unprotect sheet
    set template offline using park&go
    set template online using park&go
    put security back on
    save the template
from now on it works as expected.
in short: you just have to put a sheet offline and back online ONCE without security, than you can set the security and it will work as expected from that point on to this sheet.
Since this is a workaround, I advice you to create a support ticket.

  • BPC consolidation in MDG

    Hi,
We have a requirment where to create & govern BPC GL's and its hierarchies in MDG 7.0.  Do we have any success story on this ?
Please let us know the approach to be followed. Should be consider Account / Acccdet / FRS / FRSI entity types or Leverage FSI & FSIH for this ?
I saw in documentation saying FSI & FSIH are more for BCS, can they be leveraged to BPC.  (Please note in BPC we have a lot of cutom attributes)
    Appreciate your help on this.
    Saran.

    Hello Saran
FS Item in consolidation is Group account in SAP ECC. You have to link the group account to the GL account. FSI entity type is your group account which will be replicated as FS Item in BCS and group account in ECC.
GL account is not linked to BCS or BPC directly. You have to create them in ECC for day to day operations. Each GL account is linked to your Group account - Check FS00 for GL and FSP0 for group account. The flow is -
    1. Create FSI i.e your FS item in BCS / BPC - Replicate to BCS or BPC
    2. Create  Group Account in MDG - this will replicate to ECC
    3. Create GL account and link the group account to GL - this will create a GL account in ECC with link to group account.
Regarding your query on FSI and FSH - Yes you can do it. Use collective processing to assign the FSI to FSH. Create a separate CR type without single processing tick. Create a blank CR and then use collective processing for the assignment, Make sure you have created Breakdown category and Trading partners - Company in MDG first as its linked to FS item.

  • BPC 5.0 Installation

    Hi,
We are currently installing the Business Planning & Consolidation 5.0 (ex Outlooksoft) module and have come across the following issue:
Page 8 of the Master install guide states that
    · AmyUni PDF Creator, which is required for book publishing, is placed on
the Web server and is available for download from the Office client.
    · Xceed Zip, which is required for zipping and unzipping files, is installed on
    both the servers and clients
I'm hoping you can clarify what requirements are there for these components to be installed on the clients?  My initial impressions were that they were only required on the server so I need to understand if they really need to be installed on the clients themselves.  If so it will mean more packaging on the client side.
    Regards,
    Tony
