BDDaemon...Memory Hog, What's Wrong?
Acivity monitor is showing the process BDDaemon using nearly 530 MB of memory, consistently.
While my machine is not protesting except for running a bit hotter (180 ° F compared to about 165 ° F normally) I'd like to lower BDDaemon's memory usage.
How can I accomplish that?
Yeah, that was it. Funny that in my mind I could not connect BBDaemon with BitDefender.
Anyway, I trashed BD and will likely go with ClamX for now 'till BD fixes the BBDaemon issue.
Enen though there are currently no viruses for Mac in the wild I feel more comfortable with an AV program on my machine. It's just a matter of time before some miscreants set a virus or two loose amongst us.

SafariSyncClient Memory Hog – What's Going On?
All you Mac Wizards out there:
I've recently upgraded to Mountain Lion on my late 2008 13" MacBook. All seems well except something is haywire with Safari. I keep getting the program SafariSyncClient running and consuming enormous blocks of memory. The processor runs hot and the fans go at top speed while nothing happens (and the machine responsiveness slows to a crawl). I've tried deleting the Safari bookmarks.plist and letting it re-sync with iCloud, and it still happens. It consumes a large amount of processor, too. I've got 6 GB in this, and with only Firefox, PathFinder and a couple of other programs running (none very large--altogether maybe 500 MB), and SafariSyncClient is consuming 3.3 GB of RAM (yes, GB!) and there is a 2.25 GB page file! And this is after a restart. This is crazy! Never had this problem before upgrading. Force quit the application and it just happens again, over and over. Rebooting, purging the cache, whatever...still happens.
Next try is to do a clean start with no background apps, but on my iMac I have all the same stuff running, but no issue with SafariSyncClient.
So Frustrating!
I've searched and searched and have found little report of this issue.
Any ideas? Here's a shot from Activity Monitor.
Thanks so much.Okay, this is offically nuts. I just restarted and omitted my background applications. Started and closed Safari. Within 10 minutes all of the memory was gone. The Sync Client was up to 4.4 GB and counting, and the swap file up to more than 3 GB. Only Finder and some system background apps running. I watched as the memory got sucked dry like the second hand on a clock.
Next try is a safe boot. I'm quite sure the problem is somewhere with Safari and not a rogue application.
Anyone else out there with this issue?
Please help!

In my 16 gb iPhone 5, Mail has used up 5,6 gbs of memory (and is increasing). Trash is empty and there are a few mails in my accounts with no attachments. What's wrong?
These are Apple's tips on this:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see the battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen. Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service. -
Mac OS X Lion being a HUGE memory hog. What to do?
I have a unibody macbook pro, screenshot of specs following and I've had a huge problem ever since I got this computer with OS X Lion just performing poorly and slowly. I was informed by a genius bar genius that having a computer switched over from another mac could have damaged permissions which could account for most/all of the performance issues so they repaired issues in store, on top of replacing the logic board based on other information, but I am still seeing problems. What can I do?
As you can see Safari alone i susing up over half a gig of memory and I have only 2 tabs open. One is Pandora and the other is the tab to this forum. Maybe I'm overestimating my computer because it is a notebook but I have a much much older, imac with a 2.1ghz dual core system I believe and I can get away with having Photoshop, Dreamweaver Illustrator, Itunes, Safari, Firefox and Mail before I even start to notice performance issues but on this computer that wouldn't even be conceivable as it'd probablyt ake half an hour to fully open all of those programs.
What can I do?Damien999, this is a screenshot of my MacBook Air with two browsers and many apps open, and shows what etresoft has asked you to produce - all processes sorted by CPU load:
This MBA is running Safari, Firefox, iPhoto, iMovie, iTunes, Mail, Pages, plus other apps. It is running the exact same version of Lion in the exact same amount of memory as your MBP (4 GB). It can therefore be concluded that Lion and memory themselves are not the cause of your ills, as I explained earlier. More memory is only likely to mask whatever problems exist.
The MBA is much less capable than your MBP. I have attempted many times to push its limits and have failed to experience anything remotely resembling what you have described. What I do not have though is any AV junk or whatever Splashtop is, but you haven't indicated a willingness to address those concerns. You have also ignored repeated requests for information that may help diagnose what's wrong.
This creates the impression you are more interested in complaining than solving your problems.
If you believe that is an unjustified conclusion I suggest you post a new, more appropriately worded question. There are plenty of knowledgable people willing to help. -
my ipad 2 repeatedly states there is no memory, but I have no files or pictures? what is wrong? is the memory corrupted? thanks
You probably ran out of working RAM and not storage space.
Suggest you close Apps that you're not using; reboot ipad if necessary. -
My ipod tell me that has 65 mb memory but when I'm about to sync music it's like there's no memory and don't use that 65mb so I had to delete music... What's wrong?
65mb is very little space.
It is likely that you were trying to sync more than would fit on the iPod. -
What's wrong with my memory?
I have the IPhone 4s in 16GB and ever since I started with this phone I've had all the same apps I do today and probably the double of my pictures. Before it used to say I had around 7GB left in memory but now that I have even less pictures it says I only have 143MB. I don't understand what's wrong if I've tried to delete pictures and apps and my memory doesn't seem to go up.
Hi RosieV, Let's make sure you are able to get the most out of your device memory! I just recently deleted some applications and pictures but my memory did not update until I restarted the phone. Have you tried turning the device off since you started clearing out the memory? I would be more than happy to provide additional assistance if needed.
Thank you,

What is wrong with Separation Preview SLOW SLOW SLOW V2
In Acrobat 7 I could toggle colors on off on off on off to see what my seps would do, check K.O., traps, builds etc.
I cannot even toggle on off on off in 9. I have a horrid delay between the spot color clicks and the entire production comes to a halt and has even unexpectedly quit.
Has the jump to 9 from 7 made a function that worked flawlessly into such a memory hog that I need to add freaking ram to view what my Seps look like!
Rendering settings?
Can this be changed.
What I have found is I MUST click the checkmark to turn the color sep off, move my mouse, click again someplace like the color name, move my mouse back to the unchecked checkmark box, click again and turn the now off separation back on. I cannot just leave my mouse in he same location I MUST move my mouse and add a click on nothing. So to view and toggle color separations off/on, the action has changed from CLICK OFF CLICK ON CLICK OFF to CLICK OFF MOVE MOUSE CLICK NOTHING MOVE MOUSE CLICK ON.It's not in Acrobat 9. Before I upgraded to Acrobat X, I used Separation Preview on a Mac in Acrobat 9 for two or three years, with no slowdown whatsoever.
It's something gone wrong with your copy.
I would consider uninstalling Acrobat 9 and reinstalling it again if it's bugging you as much as you indicate. -
What's Wrong with My Computer?
I have a G5 desktop computer, I believe it's referred to as a "Power Mac." My mom purchased it some years ago, I think in late 2005 shortly after this particular model was on the market.
Info is:
Version 10.5.8
Processor 4 x 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5
Memory 4.5 GB DDR2 SDRAM
Hard Drive 240 GB (127 GB unused/available)
My mother wasn't using this computer for many years, and my 13" Macbook was giving me trouble, so she gave this one to me. It's all been great (she maxed out the memory and hard drive space when she bought it, even though it is outdated and insignificant compared to current models), except for one little thing... Browsing the internet is usually fine when it's only one window, but not always. However, it is almost a guarantee that while trying to operate multiple windows and trying to play a video, Safari will crash. And not just once in awhile. I'm talking about on a daily basis. During regular offline computer use, like Photoshop or iTunes, the computer will sometimes grey over (as if someone put a fairly thick grey film over the entire screen), and tell me I have to restart the computer. So what's wrong with it? I presume it is a physical issue (failing memory, mother board, etc.), but what?Your computer is not remotely "maxed out" with RAM.
You're describing a G5 Quad like mine (though mine was built in June of 2006), and maxed out means having 16 GB of RAM installed, like mine has.
The Frolick wrote:

That's called a Kernel Panic, and, yes, it is most often caused by hardware problems, such as bad RAM or mismatched RAM. I can't imagine how you get to 4.5 GB of RAM without exponentially increasing the risk of mismatched RAM.
RAM has to be installed in matched pairs, starting from the center slots and spreading outward: 4*3*2*1*1*2*3*4
On the other hand, my own personal experience has led me to conclude that Safari is a piece of cr@p. It causes problems just being active in the background, causing other applications to fail.
Check your RAM carefully, starting with just one pair of matched RAM sticks in the two center slots, then adding one pair at a time. Check your hard disk with Apple's Disk Utility.
The kernel panics can be caused by a damaged directory too, so if you own Disk Warrior, run it. If you don't own DiskWarrior, at least Repair Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility and use Verify Disk/Repair Disk with it.
I'd also recommend downloading and installing Applejack and run it according to the instructions.
Good luck.

So I am not sure what is going on?
Anyone have similar situation?
what did u do to get Safari working again for you?
thanksIf you're running 19.7.4, then you're installation is hosed. Safari 5.1.7 is what ships with that version. If you failed to save the ill-designed installer, then you'll have to waste resources installing again (necessitates DLing the entire 3.6+ GB monstrosity).

What's wrong with my iPhone 3G???
I was a happy owner of my original iphone and ever since I switched to iPhone 3G, I am so frustrated with iphone 3G. First, the battery really *****. That we all know, and it seems nothing we can do about it. But what about the constant crashed that happened so often? It's been a couple of times that when I tried to launch an application (even apple's own one), the iphone reset! I also got the "No Music" in ipod error once in a while, and this absolutely seems to be related to the software. And the only "temporary" fix of this error is to restore the iphone. When I used original iPhone for 7+ months, I only restored it once. And this iphone 3G I already restored it more than 10 times. And I don't know what's going on but each restore takes at least 2 hours What's wrong? Moreover, whenever I connect my iphone to itunes, it will go backup, and backup will take an hour almost every time!!
So now I am with a phone that once in a while will suddenly got no music in ipod to play and need a 2 hours restoration. This is simply HORRIBLE! I tried to search online and it seems this error got no fix yet and maybe related to some applications. But still, those applications we paid and Apple got a commission from it. So even it's 3rd party, Apple should still be kind of pay a closer attention to it.
I am so sick of the restoration process. And each restoration takes so long also makes no sense, and my iphone 3g became so hot after each long restoration. There are even a couple of times the iphone just hanged and frozen during the restoration (I waited over night). And I have to unplug it (even it says not to) and reset the iphone, luckily the phone still functions. But I mean, what the heck? Buying something like this makes me so angry and frustrated. Don't get me wrong though, I have been a loyal Apple customer for almost 10 years now, owned more than 5 laptops and 2 iMacs and a couple of iPods and original iphone, but iPhone 3G is really the worst! I mean it got excellent potential, but all will be wasted if I need to keep restoring and backing up and run out of batteries so fast.
The most frustrated part come from when I went to "genius bar" at Century City, CA, the "genius" there was so impatient, every single question I brought up, he was like that's normal, that's right, that's what happened. So he admitted iPhone 3G battery *****, 3G reception is spotty, and the software got glitches. I was like, so what the heck are you selling this to me? So frustrated.
<Edited by Moderator>The long backups seem to be related to the size of the apps you installed, not the number. That's why some people with multiple pages of apps experience fast backups. There does seem to be a bug with the current firmware that can cause a crash when doing app uploads and syncs. This bug seems to be exacerbated by having large and many apps.
I was experiencing frequent crashes, but have no more - even with 70 apps installed - some of them large like the American Heritage Dictionary which is several hundred megabytes. I did the following:
1. I set iTunes to NOT do autosyncs every time I plug in. This setting is in the Itunes preferences.
2. I disabled the autobackups in iTunes for the iphone. I figured that if it did crash and it was going to take 2 hours to restore, why not just reload. The instructions are readily found using google search; it involves a command line setting. Anyway, the phone doesn't crash anymore since doing this.
3. I no longer install apps using the iPhone. I first install the app in iTunes and the I manually sync it to the iphone. I avoid doing multiple installs at once; at least for the large apps. Right click on each app and get its info from within itunes. If it is large, it is going to take time to backup.
4. I always first shut off the iphone and restart it before installing any apps in itunes. This clears any memory issues left behind from use.
I am going to continue to do these procedures until Apple releases a fix for the bugs relating to the apps.
As noted, since I took these steps, I have had no crashes. I was crashing at least once every 1-2 days before with the same or less number of apps. I too was a first gen iPhone user and was very frustrated with the 3G experience. Since doing the above, I am once again a very happy and productive iPhone 3G user. I know its a pain to do this, but the bugs will get fixed at some point. I would never go back to my old phones - they were just phones. -
Hard crash - what went wrong?
After many years of working with pc's I've just had my first hard crash - ever! This is also the first pc I've ever built.... The rig has been up & running for 2 weeks with zero problems. I run Seti on 2 processor threads using SetiHide, resulting in 100% activity. The CPU has the stock Intel fan & ran real hot (69°) until I upgraded the BIOS from v1.2 to v1.9. Last weekend (17/18th), I played with some overclocking, getting up to 215fsb before dropping back to standard earlier this week.
Can anyone help me diagnose what went wrong please?
CPU temp 59° full load, 40° idle
NB temp 54°
System 38°
HDD 25°
System is PIV 3.2gHz/800 HT mode, BIOS v1.9, FSB set to 201, memory voltage 2.65v. Memory is Kingston approved KVR400X64C3AK2/1g in dual channel mode.
Software: WinXP Pro latest patches, McAfee AV v7.0 Enterprise, Palm Hotsync, MS ISA Firewall, pc linked to Win2k server.
Software running at the time: Outlook 2003, Setihide (2 processor mode), Musicmatch 8.2 (playing music from hdd), 2x IE6, Commence (relational dbase).
I was just working typing something in Outlook & it crashed with no warning. The PC had been on for about 10 hours.
This pc use is normal for me, nothing unusual was being done. The ONLY thing unusual was an hour or so before, I connected my APC UPS to a USB port & therefore running the UPS service. Could that cause the hard crash?
Steps taken: FSB back to 200, memory voltage back to 2.5v, unloaded UPS service & unplugged the UPS cable, unloaded Seti.
Next step: run memtest86
This really messed up my day..
Edited CPU idle temp - because shutting SetiHide doesn't shut the Seti processes!Vango
I got back up & running straight away, thanks.
Running apps are listed in my first post, active windows were:
Quote
Outlook 2003, Setihide (2 processor mode), Musicmatch 8.2 (playing music from hdd), 2x IE6, Commence (relational dbase).
I was using an Outlook new mail window doing a quote for a customer. So I was jumping between IE windows checking prices etc. At the exact point of the crash I was in Outlook typing something. Musicmatch was playing mp3s from my hard drive. Seti was running full blast. Also about an hour previously I had connected an APC 500VA Back-UPS CS to a USB port. This activated the WinXP UPS service, which was not running previously. In fact when I set up computers, I never connect the UPS to the pc - due to problems! -
2710 Blackout! What went wrong?
Hi, I have a XPS One 2710 (Mid 2012) which have gone blank.
After some intensive work to get Windows 10 on a separate partition the computer have ceased to start. Before that I had 8.1 and 10 to choose boot from. All was well but the morning after nothing worked.
Can not get into the BIOS with F2, F12 for the ePSA diagnostics does not work either, the black screen blinks a few times and there are only two strokes heard from the harddisk.
The machine starts with the input from the external HDMI input whether anything is connected or not, and I have picture from another computer with HDMI output. I assume there is no power failure.
Usually there is no activity light blinking above the power button, but it has had a steady light on one occasion, but never the Dell logo.
I have resetted the CMOS and changed battery at no avail. Disconnecting the HDD does not change any symptoms. The original service agreement expired six months ago and I have no clue to what is wrong. Is it the CPU, motherboard or memory?
As the ePSA can not be invoked by F12 I am at a loss here with no clues.
Does anybody know? Thanks for the answer Ron.
I too think there would be a hassle to find out what would fit inside this 2710. I suggested to change the motherboard myself and if there was a clear upgrade path for this chassis, a new motherboard. I therefore decided to use the 500 GB SSD as my own upgrade path, and it all went very well when the computer was returned OK.
I have an Operating Systems disc which Dell sent me a long time ago and the computer was now returned with a new Windows Product Key and I made a clean install.
I enabled Secure Boot , UEFI and ACHI in BIOS and the installation was smooth and quite fast. Maybe I should have enabled the SSD with more of its features like Overprovisioning, OS Optimization and the RAPID function for a really fast experience, but it was done on another computer and I did not know how much would carry over. Anyway there is this formatting during the install...
I am now very satisfied with this very quiet and responsive 2710 and I can recommend a change from a HDD to an SSD. There have been some inspiring threads on the subject in this forum. Thanks. -
My internet autoquits, what's wrong and how to fix?
My Blackberry's internet is normal after reboot, but after a while the internet doesn't wana work, it goes in, loads then just before it finishes it quits back into the typing screen, what's wrong?
Hello!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
2) Resend Service Books (pre-BB10 devices only)
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
3) Reboot
Pre-BB10 Devices ONLY. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
BB10 Devices. Hold the top button down until the counter reaches zero. Wait for the device to be fully shut down (e.g., nothing at all displayed on the screen, no LED lights, etc.). Hold the top button until the red LED is lit. Wait through the full boot-up process. IF this fails, you can attempt the battery-pull method above, but it is normally NOT recommended unless nothing else works.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you!
If not, then I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode
It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.
If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.
But if the behavior continues in Safe Mode, then you may need to consider more drastic actions -- WIPE, OS Reload, BBSAK Wipe/Reload, and the "Bare Bones" OS Reload Process. To prepare, you should be sure that you have a full backup to your PC...please review the Backup link in my auto-sig on this post for instructions.

You email address has been removed from your post.
You wouldn't want bad people to send you spam messages for the rest of your life, eh?
Moderator Advice:
If this is the same E2900 that you have mentioned in every one of your other forum posts, then it would seem you need to contact Technical Support and open a proper support request. These forums are NOT techsupport and that system seems so poorly configured that it needs deep analysis. Such investigation cannot be done by using an online forum.
The immediate solution is to log on to the SC of that box and power it down, then boot it back up. At least it will be running after that.
