BDP-S350 vs WRT54G router

Hi,
I buy a Sony Blue Ray BDP-S350 and I try to connect it to Internet for firmware update and BD-Live option.  The Blue Ray was wired connect into the WRT54G router but It don't see the network.  The led corresponding to port for the Blue Ray on router was lighted.  The configuration of the Blue ray was 'Use DHCP'.  I try to set a static IP address but no success.
Did I have a special configuration to do for the WRT54G ?
Thanks for your help.

I assume that your WRT54G is set to "Local IP address" 192.168.1.1 , and that your DHCP server is "enabled", and the DHCP server range is still set to the default of 192.168.1.100  thru  192.168.1.149  --  is that correct?
If so, your Blu-ray should have connected when set to "Use DHCP".  If you have a long cable run (especially over 30 feet), make sure you are using a high quality cat5e or cat6 cable.  Have you tried bringing the Blu-ray close to the WRT54G, and using a short cable that you know works?  If not, try this and see if it works.
If you still cannot get the Blu-ray to connect, then try setting the Blu-ray to a fixed LAN IP address.  Note that a fixed LAN IP address must be outside the DHCP server range, and it cannot end in 0, 1, or 255.  For example, try 192.168.1.20  (assuming you are not using this address elsewhere).  You will also need to set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0 , the Default Gateway to 192.168.1.1 , and the DNS server to 192.168.1.1  .  Note that some devices cannot use the router's proxy DNS server at 192.168.1.1 , so if this setting does not work, then insert your true Internet DNS server address (found in the router on the Status tab).
Please let me know if this worked or not.

  • WRT54GS router to WET54G bridge question, bridge connect to a wired router?

    Hello Everyone,
I have a Wireless-G LAN set up using a WRT54GS router.  The existing wireless devices on the LAN are 2 PCs, a TiVo unit (using the TiVo wireless adapter), and 2 WET54G wireless bridges.  One bridge connects by ethernet wire to a LAN printer.  The other bridge connects by ethernet wire to a Sony BDP-S550 Blu-Ray player.
The security is WPA2-AES.  so far all of that works OK, believe it or not, though I grew a lot older making it happen.
Now here's what I'd like to do: I'd like to add another wired LAN device where the second WET54G bridge connects to the Blu-Ray player.  The bridge only has one ethernet wire connection, so I have to come up with some other way to get the two devices connected to the wireless LAN.
I have two other LinkSys devices kicking around here that I can use.  One is a BEFSR41 wired Router.  The other is a WAP54G wireless Access Point.   If I can use one or both of those somehow, I won't have to buy another device.  That's the agenda so far.
Right now it looks like this:
WRT54GS Router wireless to WET54G Bridge wire to WAN input of BEFSR41 Router wires to the two LAN devices.
I'm having trouble making this work, assuming it can even be done.  Can I get this config to work, or do I have to add the Access Point where the bridge is now, or.... ?
    Thanks for your time,
    Big Al Mintaka

You already have a network working with your existing devices. What you are trying to include in your network is possible and can be done. Instead of connecting the cable from the WET54G to the WAN port on the router, connect the cable the LAN port on the router. Disable the DHCP  and change the lan ip in the range of your existing network. It should work.

Having trouble setting up a linksys WRT54GS router with verizon DSL using a westell 6100F modem. the modem works fine by its self  but the router will not connect  to the internet when installed like the cd tells you to.
online help and phone help has been less than helpful,  anyone have any Ideas?

Ok I found " Installing the liksys wireless router with a westell 6100 modem" in the verizon troubleshooting guides. printed the instructions so I would'nt forget. step 1 open your web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the address field.  PROBLEM it comes up with a login screen that I don't know how to sign into. tried the obvious stuff. cannot get past the login screen. I knew this sounded to easy to be true. anyone have any ideas?

I have a linksys WRT54G router that we use as a base. I want to use Airplay using Airport Express and hook up my stereo to it. How can i set up my Airport express without a PC/laptop? I just downloaded Airport utility on my iphone and ipad, will that work? And one more thing about the setup, the linksys router shich acts as a base is in a different room as the airport express which i wanted to use for airplay. So I'm hoping to hook up the Airport express via wireless signal. If i can set it up, can someone pls help me out by posting detailed instructions. Thanks so much!

The first message that AirPort Utility will display during the auto setup will be that the Express will be confgured to "extend" the network. When AirPort Utility analyzes the network further, and sees that the Express cannot "extend" the 3rd party network, the next message will indicate that the Express is being configured to "join" the wireless network.
Once the Express is configured, if you later go into AirPort Utility to check the settings under the Wireless tab, you will see that the Wireless Mode is indeed "Join a wireless network".

  • WRT54G Router - Internet connection issues using the Ipod touch

Ok, first - here is my setup. I've got the router hooked into the modem, with the desktop computer hooked directly into the router.  I've got my laptop running off wireless internet, and I've got an ethernet cable connecting through my laptop to an xbox for xbox live connection.  I recently just got an iPod touch, and I've come to realize that whenever I'm on the iPod, it messes with the internet on the desktop computer and on the xbox, but not the laptop really.. it makes the internet really slow, or sometimes it doesn't work at all, especially on the xbox.  Is there anything I can change to make these all work at the same time?  Or is this too many connections or what? Please help. thanx.
(running windows vista home premium, WRT54G router, pretty much beginner status, though I can follow directions easily : ] )
Also, the internet always works on the ipod, it seems as though the ipod is 'taking over' the internet.. it doesn't lose it while in the area, yet the other computers and xbox does at times..

You might be facing the problem, because the Ipod and your Desktop computer must be having the same IP address thats the reason whenever your IPod is connected to your Network, your Desktop must be getting disconnected. Check the IP address of your IPOD and of your Desktop Computer.
First thing which you need to check, if the Physical connections are done properly. Connect the Modem to the Internet Port of the Linksys Router and then Connect the computer to the LAN Port No.1. On your Desktop computer login to the setup page of your Router and click on the Status tab and check "Internet IP address"
If required you can Re-Set your Router and Re-configure all the settings on your Router from the scratch.

  • How do I set up WRT54G router with 4 computers and WVC54GC Wireless Camera

Can anyone please tell me how to set up my Home Network with full security turned on?
I have at least 4 neighbors that show up on my wireless connections list. I have a daughter that loves music and is constantly downloading viruses but only on one wireless connection. The rest of us want to be protected from that computer. My system consists of the following:
    One Linksys WRT54G Router
Two Linksys WMP54G Wireless PCI adapters,
Two Linksys WVC54GC Wireless Cameras  (Possibility four if the 1st two ever work OK.)
Two Linksys LNE100TX PCI Ethernet Cards,
    One HP Ethernet Printer
Three computers were connected by Ethernet cable and one was wireless. I did not change the admin password and I thought everything was working fine for a couple of years until I found that the wireless computer was acting as a “drone” and slowing everything down to a snails pace.  It could even turn itself on.
I changed one of the Ethernet computers to wireless and decided that it might be time to also change the password and increase security.  Setting up security completely shutdown the wireless drone computer. I was OK with that, at least until I can reformat that harddrive.
I then decided while I was at it, I would add a wireless camera (WVC54GC). I set it up using the software and Ethernet cable that came with it. After 6 tries I finally got the camera to work with the cable attached, but it does not work wireless and now none of the other computers connect any more. Is there a limit on how many connections? Should I reset the router and if so, do I disconnect the DSL modem? I’m afraid of the “drone” computer because I found some very bad malware on it. One in particular caused me to replace a hard drive.
I’ve read page after page of network stuff on the Internet and I guess I just don’t know how to ask the right questions. I’m tired of fooling with this.

hi , when u talk about security , are u referring to the "viruses" your daughters PC may be propogating to the rest of the network , or are u referring to external attacks on the router or your wireless PC"s ???
In case u are referring to the "virus" attacks , the best you can do is install a good antivirus software on all PC"s and keep the virus definations updated....
In case u are referring to the wireless security , i'd suggest that your use WPA2 personal. you can select WPA2 by going to the "wireless security" option.
let me know if u need anything more.

  • Linksys WRT54G router--Why doesn't it work with my Macbook?

I have a perfectly functional Apple MacBook (Unibody, late 2008) running Leopard 10.5.6. I have used it to connect to public Wi-Fi but it is unable to connect to my home Linksys WRT54G router. I called Apple Tech Support, and they suggested that I change the wireless channel and/or temporarily remove the WPA encryption. I did both, the computer still could not connect. In System Preferences on the MacBook, it tells me that "AirPort does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the internet." The tech support guy tried to help, but in the end basically told me that the router just plain might not be compatible with Apple products. (My iPod Touch cannot connect either.)
I can buy a new router, but this one works perfectly for the rest of the computers in the house (PCs) and they're expensive--and there's no guarantee that those will work either.
So: Does anyone know any solutions short of buying a new router that would make my Linksys compatible with my Macbook AND our home PCs? Or, failing that, a good, WPA-encrypted router that WILL work with both?
I have a Snow Leopard disk (I just received the computer on Thursday). Would upgrading to Snow Leopard be of any help? I'm planning on doing it anyway one of these days.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Sola Gratia

You are in the wrong forum but I'll try and help anyway. That model of Linksys router has a long history of not getting along with Apple products. That is not to say it will never work, but it does require that you download and install the latest firmware for the exact model of router that you have. There are multiple sub-models of that router so make sure that you get the right one.
Once you have done the firmware update, restart your router and try it again. WPA-psk should work but for troubleshooting purposes, turn off encryption and see if you can get your MacBook and touch working. You might want to use WPA2-psk instead of WPA.
I would hold off on Snow Leopard until you get WiFi working. Nothing like changing to too many things at one time to really mess things up.

  • Win XP SP3 PC wired to WRT54G router repeatedly crashes

I have a Win XP SP3 desktop that is wired (not wireless) to WRT54G router  (v 3.0 router with latest firmware version 4.21.1).
The PC repeatedly freezes when I connect to internet using IE or Firefox and has to be re-booted using power button. The following are the 2 error messages from Event Viewer:
    1) The AEGIS Protocol (IEEE 802.1x) v3.1.6.0 service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified -  netevent.dll. Source of the error is Service Control Manager
    2) The PCASp50 NDIS Protocol Driver service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified - netevent.dll. Source of the error is Service Control Manager.
    Other details:
    1) Vonage adapter also connected to router
    2) This PC used to be connected to same router via a wireless-G adapter WUSB54G. That has been disconnected, Linksys software uninstalled and PC is now wired to router. The problem used to happen at that time also.
    3) Router is setup with WPA-PSK security with TKIP and mode G-only.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I am at my wit's end.

I also would like to suggest that you download and experiment with another browser, Google Chrome or Opera and see if they are affected also. Their installation may refresh or reload the missing dll's.

  • WRT54G router IP address is the same as my modem's IP address. how to change the routers IP address?

The broadband modem got broken and the ISP changed it to a new modem. Now my problem is I cannot use the router when they changed the modem. The ISP won't provide support since they didn't provide me with the wireless router. I've read through the forum and found that I had to change my router's IP address. WRT54G router IP address is the same as my modem's IP address, 192.168.1.1. I already changed the local IP address of the router to 192.168.1.2, saved the setting, released and renew the ip address. Now, when I connected my internet modem cable to the router, I cannot connect to the internet. I am able to ping 192.168.1.2 but I cannot connect to the ping 192.168.1.1. Please help me do the proper setup.
    Thanks!

Hello! I solved my problem but I find the solution so weird. After changing the routers IP address to 192.168.1.2, instead of plugging the modem cable on the Internet port of the router, I plugged it in one of the WAN ports. Presto, it worked. Even my wireless connection is also working.

  • Cannot connect Mac ibook to WRT54G router

I have a WRT54G router connected to my desktop. My Dell laptop connects without any problems. Now I am also trying to connect a Mac ibook to the same router. The Airport reads the connection, but it does not accept any passwords. The dropdown of connection options includes Personal WPA, Personal WPA2, Enterprise WPA, and others, but none of them accept my password. I have read some threads about downgrading, but I am concerned that if I make changes to adapt for the Mac, I might lose my Dell connectivity.

Use Firefox or Internet Explorer. Open http://192.168.1.1/ (if you have not changed the LAN IP address of the WRT54G), enter your password (default "admin" ) and you should see the web interface of the router. Click on Wireless. Post the current settings you have there. Then click on Wireless Security and also post the current settings you find there. That will tell us how you have set up the wireless on the router and then we'll see how you correctly set up the iBook for this.

  • WRT54GS router loses WAN DNS

I have a WRT54GS router that loses the WAN DNS from time to time. I go into the router and check the router status and the IP is set to a LAN IP address and no DNS entry. I release and renew the DNS and it picks up the WAN IP and DNS OK. This happens time to time.
At first I was powering everything down and then on – the router would NOT pick up the ISP DNS – always stayed with the LAN IP settings and no DNS. If I put a computer directly to the cable modem it worked OK.
Later I discovered if I went into the router status – releasing and renew would pick up the ISP DNS and stay until the next event.
I called Linksys and was advised to upgrade the firmware which seemed to help but this reoccurred again.
Any thoughts? Should I replace the router?

I have reloaded the firmware several times and with the support guy on live chat followed his instructions for a HARD RESET - the problem happened again after all that.
I see through web searches that a lot of people have the same issue but never really report a solution - just a lot of repeat suggestions.
    Time will tell.

  • WRT54G ROUTER CONNECTION PROBLEM

    I have a WRT54g router.
Everything works great for a period of time even after turning the computer, internet modem and router on and off several times.
Then I turn everything on and the computer does not connect to the internet.
It go and connect the computer directly to the internet modem and I have internet access.
To be able to use the router again I have to reset the modem and input all the settings which I do with the setup disk.
I have been using channel six in case this makes any difference.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    connection DMS: HSD1.fl.comcast.net

I also tried to load the update of the newer solfware but it does the same with or without the update.

  • Linksys WRT54G Router set up

Hi, I recently got hold of a WRT54G Router and am trying to set it up....unfotunately, my knowledge of this kind of stuff is, lets say, basic! haha
I was wondering if anyone has set up this model (or any other model) with AOL as their ISP and if they could let me know what details I need to add or change on the set up page, and where to find it.
Some of the main info I know I need is the Host Name and Domain name, which I'm somehow having trouble tracking down. Also, I think I need to set it up as in PPOE (I think thats right...), but am not totally sure what account I'm initially dialling in with...
Any help would be brilliant! Thanks guys.

okay... connect the DSL modem >> router >> computer, try resetting the router back to factory default settings by pressing the small reset button on the back panel of the router...power cycle the n/w by unplugging the power cable of the modem and the router, wait for couple of mins. and power up the modem first, once the modem is rebooted power up the router...logon to the router's setup page, open I.E. and in the address bar type 192.168.1.1, it would ask for username and password, put "admin" as a password without any username, liksys setup page pops up...try changing encapsulation "automatic configuration DHCP" to "PPPoE" and try setting up username and password provided by the ISP and save the settings...click on the status tab on the router and try connecting to the PPPoE server....let me know the results

  • Issues connecting multiple machines wirelessly to WRT54G router

I have a WRT54G router and have one wired desktop, two laptops that connect fine and then I have a netbook and another desktop with wireless adapter I am having issues with connecting.  I used the wizard and set each machine up with the downloaded executable, it says it works but when I try to connect I get unable to connect to wireless network message.  ANy ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated

You have one computer connected with the cable and 2 wireless computers working fine. That means the router is working fine.
I think you should check the wireless settings of the router first.
You have one computer connected to the router with the Ethernet cable. Open the setup page of the router and go to Wireless tab. Check the wireless network name. Go to wireless security sub tab. Check the wireless security mode and make sure that you have the correct password of your wireless network. Go to Wireless MAC address filter sub tab and make sure that it is disabled.
Try to connect to the wireless network again and see if that works.
