Be careful with setting up personal iCloud on work computer

I have had a heck of a time over the last couple of days, after signing in to iCloud on my work computer. I don't have general access as an admin on this computer - just temporary admin access for software updates, etc. I used my personal apple id to set up iCloud for the first time and it caused multiple, persistent, and very frustrating hangs throughout the OS, affecting every piece of software I tried to run. Activity Monitor (when I could actually view it during the numerous hangs, showed "icloud helper" constantly spiking cpu usage. I finally had to force quit the process in Activity Monitor, and then I was able to sign out of iCloud in Sys Prefs. ugh! I'm not sure what the technical details are for my inability to use iCloud on this work-owned computer, but I won't be trying iCloud again, I guess. It would have been nice, though - I like iCloud's gui/look, but I think there should be more steps in setting it up, to ensure that it's going to work without hanging/clogging the OS.

You need Admin access to install and setup iCloud correctly.
Download the installer, rightclick on it and select Runs as Administrator and supply an Admin login when asked.
Well you would if you were running Windows, which I see you are not ........

  • Please Help with Setting Up an iCloud Account with a PC

    Friends,
I'm using a IBM ThinkPad W510 with Mozilla Firefox as my search engine, Thunderbird as my email program and I recently purchased an iPad 3 and own an iPod.  I am very interested in using iCloud but short of finding an IT Engineer, I am in dire need of step by step help on how to set up iCloud on these three pieces of hardware.  I'm willing to pay for the information if needed but as it looks now, after spending three nights and about 9 hours I don't think it's possible.  My email address is [email protected] and I am unclear as to if I have to use .me or whatever Apples email options are.  I really need help and it's stuff like this that really keep 30 year PC users from jumping the fence and going totally Apple which I may consider in the future after seeing Windows 8 in the fall. Please help me out.
    With Great Respect and Needs,
    Ed

  • Setting Up Remote Desktop w/ Work Computer

I am new with remote desktop and want to setup to get on a computer at work when out of the office. Is there a page with instructions on a simple way to set this up?
    Thanks In Advance!

The subject of connecting ARD via the Internet has been covered here many times already (search the forum for "Internet"), but take a look at this web page:
    http://www.starkpr.com/ard.htm
It should help, though you may have to refer to your router's documentation for specifics on opening and forward ports in that particular unit.

  • Getting personal texts on work computer.

I need to turn this feature off without affecting my iPad. I can't just stop forwarding, as this affects my iPad, which again, I don't want. Can anyone help me?

    daveelcapo,
This can be done by disabling your work computer in Settings -> Messages -> Text Message Forwarding.
    On your iPhone:
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You Can Be Reached By, and add a check to both your phone number and email address.
Go to Messages > Text Message Forwarding, and enable the device(s) you would like to forward messages to.
Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity

    Heya Katie!!
So, the article you have there, HT4895, is pretty good. Just look at the FAQ section of it.
But basically, you will want to create a backup on your computer through iTunes...Just plug your current iPad into it and make sure your iPad and iTunes are logged in with the same Apple ID. At that point, just create a backup.
When you get your new iPad, and before you plug it in or set it up, follow the directions in this link to change your Apple ID. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5621?viewlocale=en_US
Once you have that done, plug your new iPad into your computer to sync up with iTunes. Follow the directions for Restore from Backup and it should bring all that info back to your new iPad.
And changing your Apple ID email info will allow you to have your own!!! This should solve all your issues and GL!!!

I want to set up an icloud account for work, separate from our personal accounts.  We all have iPad 2.  How do I do that?

You can set up a second ("secondary") iCloud account on your device by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCloud.  Secondary accounts do have limitations. Only the primary account can be used for Photo Stream, Bookmarks, Documents, iCloud Backup and Find My Device.  Push mail only works for the primary account; secondary account mail is fetch.

You can continue to use the current AppleID for iTunes, but your husband can create a new AppleID to use to create a new iCloud account that will be his own and not overlap with yours.  If you do not have another email address to use for an AppleID, just get a free Gmail account and use that.
You can have as many AppleIDs as you want (or at least, as many as you have email addresses for).  You can use a separate AppleID for the store, another for iCloud, and even another for iMessage if you wish.
You will want to keep the current one as the shared one for the store as all your previous purchases are permanently tied to it, and thus you need that AppleID to update or redownload your current purchased content.

  • I set up my iCloud account on iPad with an exchange account and aol account.  I can see exchange and aol emails but not those from .me account or apple email.  I got it to show all 3 accounts on my iPhone with no problem.  Hat am I missing?

I set up my iCloud account on iPad with an exchange account and aol account.  I can see exchange and aol emails but not those from .me account or apple email.  I got it to show all 3 accounts on my iPhone with no problem.  Hat am I missing?

I'm having a similar problem, but I do have the key and is not working anyway.
My old pc was running on windows 7 and my new one is an apple running on Lion.
My phone is an Iphone IV and I can see all the bookmarks there.
In order to sync, what I did was click on the "I don't have the device with me", I entered the key that was provided and the process finish ok. It says congratulations, etc, etc.
But the bookmarks are not there, I tried merging data and replacing data on this computer options but is the same.
    Any suggestions?

  • HT4436 If someone else has set up an ICloud account (that uses his name in the email address) using my Apple ID, do I have to change my Apple ID to open an account with my name in the email address?

If someone else has set up an ICloud account using my email address and Apple ID but has chosen his name for the mail name, can I get rid of his name in the [email protected] and put mine in there?  Or do I have to set up a whole new acount with a new Apple ID?  Will I be able to do that with his name already linked to my email address?

How did he manage to do this? - he would have to have known your password if he was using an existing Apple ID. You should change it immediately to something strong and unguessable. That will prevent him accessing the account or using the email he has set up (assuming he hasn't changed the password and locked you out).
You can't change the primary @icloud.com address once set up, though you can create additional addresses as email aliases: if he's given this address out you will get his emails but you could set up a Rule to trash them.
You might to better to create a new ID and iCloud account anyway. To do this you wil need a different non-Apple email address (you could use a free GMail one); or you have the option in the iCloud prefs pane to choose an @icloud.com address and make that the ID.

I have an iPhone 5 and have just set up the iCloud for it. I also have an iPad with different content and I also want to connect it to iCloud. Will I lose everything that's on my iPad or iPhone or do they sync together without losing anything?

The problem is that all services are bundled with your Apple ID ([email protected]):
Your iCloud account (Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Notes, Backups, etc.),
also iTunes & App Store purchases (Music, Movies, TV Shows, etc.),
    and the iTunes Match services.
(I guess that all your devices - yours and your wife's are connected to one iTunes library, right?)
If you want that your wife gets her own iCloud account for Mail, Contacts, Calendars, etc. but gets also access to your media then you have two set up two things on her device:
iCloud (Settings > iCloud) with her account (e.g. [email protected])
    and
iTunes & App Stores (Settings > iTunes & App Stores) with your account (e.g. [email protected]).
In this case she gets access to your library and could use the same iTunes Match account.
