BE on MCS v7 migrate to BE6000 on UCS

I have a client who has a 100 single MCS server based Business edition running version 7. Currently they are covered under UCCS/ESW nearing the end of this 3 year agreement.
What is the correct migration path to take them from V7 to BE6k on UCS.  Looking possibly to add some redundancy.
Customer has CUCM/Unity Connection/Presence/Attendant Console applications.
From the SE session I believe I could
buy 2 50 or 100 user bundles or buy 1 bundle and a
migration bundle for the redundant server with all the software preloaded.
If I purchase 2 50s, this gives the active publisher a total of 100 users during normal operation?
My question is is the migration bundle a deep discounted sku that acknowledges the investment of the existing BE version 7 and MCS hardware, or do I have to go through the technology migration path to get value for the existing hardware and licenses?
Is this even the correct roadmap, from v7 or do I have to first upgrade to v9 on the existing hardware under the UCCS support terms, THEN migrate to UCS hardware?
Thank you.
md

You have mulitple options.
1.  AS you described in the question, buy two 50 bundles will let you have a publisher with 100 user license, and a subscriber server.
2. Just buy one starter bundle, and use the MCS server as you back server.  Please check the MCS server is supported in 9.0. In this case, you will need to upgrade the MCS server with 9.0 SW.
The migration program includes mulitples parts:
1. Migration bundle is discounted with its price just around $1K higher than the listed bare metal server price. and with pre-loaded OS and VMware. It also comes with the free VCS licesnse (5 travelsal license + 10 non travesal ),  5 CC agent license and required VMware license.
2. Don't need to purchase new license.  Just migrate them. What really matters is the migration discount on license.  With the 9X3 migration promotion, you can migrate you licesnse to BE6000 for $9 per license if 3 year UCSS is purchased.
3. Use the MCS server as reducndancy server or run other applications.
4. You don;t nee to upgrade to 9.0 first ro be able to migrate.
We are going to publish a white paper for migration ery soon. Please stay tuned.

  • How to migrate from BE6000 to Communications Manager

    Dear forum members,
first of all, I'am tired. I have been on a long journey from the day we bought our Cisco Unified Communication system until now.
Technically everything worked just fine, right from the beginning until now. But starting from the first day, I had several huge
issues with our Cisco reseller (Deutsche Telekom/T-Systems).
It all started with the fact, that all hardware related contracts and services were SmartNet Services and added directly to our company account.
All software related services were booked as "Shared Services". So we were the rightfull owner of the licenses but our reseller had to migrate/issue all tickets, licensing requests and so on.
It took us (me and our reseller) over a year to set these things "right".
Right now, everything (hardware and software related services, licenses, ...) are bound to our Cisco account. We can open TAC cases, download software/firmware and so on.
Last week, we migrated successfully from Call Manager 8.6.5 to 10.0. So I was really happy to see, that everything worked fine (I could migrate my licenses, download the software, ...).
I thought, "Hey, finally eveything works as expected..."
    I was wrong, so wrong...
What happend? I tell you what happend...
During the migration, we had to move all our servers (CUCM, CUC & CUPS) from our Cisco C200 M2 Server to our Dell VMware cluster, because the C200 M2 is (as far as I know) not supported anymore for BE6000 10.x and we didn't wand to buy a new C220 M3 server.
Due to the fact, that the BE6000 is only supported on that hardware, we decided to migrate our BE6000 to a Cisco Unified Communications Manager.
Our reseller told me, that Cisco Unified Communications Manager is supported on third party hardware (if the hardware meets certain requirements, like processors and so on) and due to the fact that we only use CUCM, CUC & CUPS there would be no difference for us when it comes to features.
So I said: Great, let's do that. And when you are doing that, can you please order us a license for a collab edge gateway (the thing that enables Jabber to proxy through the firewall without the need of a vpn tunnel).
And that was the point when our communication stucked...
Since that mail, I don't get any response from our reseller regarding this two tasks. They told me, that I can do that myself. I tried that and searched all cisco portals and then opended a TAC case.
The TAC team told me, that our reseller had to file a sales order (is that right?) and send me back to them.
Right now, I'am trapped between Cisco and my reseller and I'am really tired. Can someone please tell me what I can do/have to do to patch things up?
    Kind regards,
    René

DRS from your current server which is using the 6K OVAs, into your dell server which should NOT be using the 6K OVAS, but any of the other non-6K options you have.
I assume you've already verified your server is supported under 3rd party spec guidelines???
But, that's all it takes to move from a 6K into an enterprise CUCM, or the other way around as well.

  • Migrating from MCS7845 to UCS C210M2 Server for CUCM8.0

Customer Alpha has CUCM and Nortel.
(I.) Following is the CUCM Cluster breakup:
       - Location X: PUB, SUB1, SUB2
       - Location Y: SUB3
       - Location Z: SUB4, SUB5
(II.) Location Z, Block-A has 10,000 users on Nortel which need to be moved to CUCM8.0 for which the following two new SUBSCRIBER's added to the existing CUCM Cluster:
        - SUB6, SUB7
        - SUB6 & SUB7 will be installed on a UCS C210M2 server
        - Customer will be shipped with two UCS C210M2 with dual  quad core 5640 processor
    2.In Location Z, currently SUB4 and SUB5 are on MCS 7845 server.
Need to Migrate SUB4 and SUB5 on UCS C210M2 Server from MCS7845.
This way, Location Z with SUBSCRIBERS(SUB4, SUB5, SUB6 and SUB7) will migrate to UCS C210M2 server platform.
Rest of the locations namely- LocationsX & LocationY will continue running on MCS7845 platform.
Need to understand the Migration strategy (point wise) keeping in mind, the PUB is in LocationX still on MCS and only the SUB- SUB4, SUB5, SUB6 and SUB7 will be on UCS platform in locationZ.
Please share the steps required to perform this type of Migration.
    Thanks & Regards
    Sumit

    Hi Gajanan,
    Thanks for your prompt reply.
SUB4 Migration from MCS7845 to UCS C210M2 server involves the following steps:
Take SUB4 out of the Network.
Install SUB4 on UCS C210-M2 server, just as a fresh install  and ensure the same SUB4 name is assigned on UCS what its there on the MCS7845 platform.
While installation of SUB4, it ask for PUB details like IP Address, assign the reqd. details.
Migrate the users assigned to SUB4 with SUB5 for the time being, this step should have been performed in the beginning.
Once the installation is complete, you can re-install the users from SUB5 to SUB4.
Database replication will take place from PUB
Please confirm if Step4 is required or when we take the Backup using DRS of SUB4 and after the installation of SUB4 on UCS C210, restore the backup on SUB4 and then it would populate the users/phones  that were tregistered with SUB4 on MCS 7845 platform on to UCS C210M2 platform.
Do we need to take DRS of the PUB or SUB4?
Can you please put the steps in the correct order.....
Follow the same steps fro SUB5 Migration from MCS7845 to UCS C210M2 server platform.
    Thanks & Regards

  • CUCM 7.1 migrating to BE6000

I have a customer that is moving from their UCM 7.1 to a BE6K.  The have ucss/esw and I cannot figure out how to migrate their current licenses on UCM.  They are getting new hardware, so it is not a upgrade to the existing servers.  Also is there a way to migrate the data from the current system into BE6K or would it be better to build it and export/import the information.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
We're about to refresh the BE6000 ordering guide, which includes the following on this subject.
    Links for your convenience:

  • Migration of CUCM on UCS C series to UCS B series.

Planning a move from UCS rack servers to newer blades. I was wondering what the Cisco recommended method would be. I see allot of people saying that you should vMotion things over but also that there are allot of caveats with it. I have also heard some people recommend Cisco Prime Collaboration Deployment but I can't quite figure out how that would work. So I thought I would ask the community for it's opinion on the subject.
CUCM is on version 10.5, nothing will be patched or upgraded in the move just the guest OS will be moved over. Also, these platforms do not share storage, the C series have the guest stored local and the B series will have a SAN.

Yup, there it is in black and white, thanks.
By chance you wouldn't have a link to the proper method for moving a cluster do you? I know you move the pub first then the subs but I can't find a page that details the process.

  • BE6000 Migration to Full UCM

Anyone know the process or SKU to migrate from BE6000 licensing to full UCM licensing?

Putting aside the UCS Hardware, which should be reviewed and perhaps upgraded, I do see Migration SKUs in Netformx for Migrating from BE UWL to CUWL-STD or PRO.
For release 8.6 it would be top level CUWL-LIC-STD-K9
    Under that: UWL-MIG-CUWLBE-STD  $10
For release 8.6 it would be top level CUWL-LIC-PRO-K9
    Under that: UWL-MIG-CUWLBE-PRO  $220
I see similar SKUs in release 9.0 under L-CUWL-ADDON-xxxxx
Since BE-CUWL is $315 and CUWL-STD is $325, I guess it makes sense,
Same for the jump to CUWL-Pro.

    Dear All ,
i am doing a migration from 8.0.3 on MCS to 10.5.2 on UCS
while the migration task . i got this error

    Hi Mohamed,
Can you check the output of following on the Publisher
    utils system upgrade status
If there is any task running there, you can try
    utils system upgrade cancel
and try again. I have come across cases where a Publisher reboot has fixed such issue.

  • UCCX 8.x HA on different hardware

Has anyone successfully installed UCCX8 Publisher on an MCS box and a subscriber on UCS?  We'll be using the HA over WAN deployment.
    Thanks,
    - William

I have not done this, but as long as the MCS server and the supported UCCX Vmware OVA are sized the same you should be OK.

  • Delete CER license files

I'm having issues with CER 8.x license hope some can help here, customer want to upgrade from CER 2.x on MCS server to 8.5 on UCS server. So I upgraded CER from 2.x to 7.1 to 8.5 on an interim server no license issues at all. When I did DRS back up from Interim server and restored on UCS server I started to have license issues. I called Tac engr who was helping from licensing team  and explained what I was doing so she was keep issueing different license files none of them worked. I just want to delete all the license files I have installed so far and start over and see that fixes it. I thought there may be an option under CLI like we have in CUCM but there in no option to delete those lic files . Please can you help me to delete those lice files or do I need to open a TAC case to get root access.

This should be possible since CER 7.x that has implemented the fix for "CSCsk37388    Need a way to delete the licenses"
To do so:1. View / Download / Delete license files uploaded onto the system, using the File Management Utility (found under Tools)
    2. After deletion, restart CER service. The License Manager shows the updated license info (i.e. decremented user license count in case of a user license, or evaluation mode in case of a server license).

  • Migrating User from MCS 7828 H3 to UCS C220

            Hi All
I wanted to can someone tell me what is the process for migrating users from a MCS 7828 to a UCS C220. A associate of mine called me about doing a migration from the MCS to the UCS series and he wants to know how does he get the users over to the new platform. Thanks in advance for the help and have a great day.

    Hi Scooter817,
There are a few options depending on what the customer has today and what will be the end state.  Below are the most common scenarios:
1st Scenario - Customer is on older SW releases (8.x, 7.x, etc..) on MCS server(s) without UCSS wanting to move to new SW releases (9.x)  on UCS C220.    The most cost effective way is to buy $9 upgrade per user per application SKUs (ex. UPG-6K-ENH) with UCSS for 3 years.  There is more information on the BE6K product page under the partner section around migrations  BE6K Product Page - http://www.cisco.com/go/be6000
2nd Scenario - Customer is on older SW releases (8.x, 7.x, etc..) on MCS server(s) with UCSS wanting to move to new SW releases (9.x)  on UCS C220.    Since they have UCSS, they can go to PUT with thier contract number request updated SW and licensing, then re-host licenses to the new server.  PUT link: http://tools.cisco.com/gct/Upgrade/jsp/productUpgrade.jsp
3rd Scenario - Customer is on older SW releases (8.x) on MCS server(s) with or without UCSS wanting to move to same SW releases (8.x)  on UCS C220.   They can re-host licensing to the new server via SWIFT.  Here is the link to the process.  https://tools.cisco.com/SWIFT/LicensingUI/lookupLicenseForRehost

  • Migration from BE3000 to BE6000

    Hi,
Has anyone done a successful migration from BE3000 to BE6000?
    I need the guides.
    Please assist.
    Thanks

    Hi Valdes,
I haven't come across any Export / Import method for migration from BE3k To BE6k. Even if its tried the whole process may turn out to be too complex without any confirmation about the integrity of database that is exported. However, there is documentation supporting the migration from BE3K to Standalone servers like in the following link

  • Migrate CUCM 8.5 to 10.X from MCS server to UCS

    Dear All,
Can you please explain me how can I migrate my current CUCM 8.5 running on MCS server to newly purchase UCS server on CUCM 10.x.
    Regards

Best option would be to use Cisco Prime Collaboration Deployment

  • Upgrade Call Manager from 8.5(1) to 10.5(1) and migrate from MCS to UCS...

We are upgrading UCM from 8.5(1) to 10.5(1) and migrating from MCS to UCS. We used UCM 8.5 OVA (7500 user) and migrated to UCS.
Once migrated to UCS we upgraded UCM to 10.5(1). We wanted to use OVA to accommodate 10,000 users, hence took backup of 10.5(1) cluster and installed new servers with new 10.5(1) OVA (10,000 users).
While doing DRS restore, system we were not able to perform a restore. It seems UCM is not recognizing the XML file. It is strange as we took the back from UCM 10.5(1) and trying to restore same version, only difference is upgrade was done with 7500 user OVA and we are now trying to install 10,000 user OVA.
Has anyone run into similar issue? any help will be great.
    Thank You.

This thread is 5 months old but doesn't seem resolved...
I ran into this same scenario last week. Was using the same SFTP server for backups and restores during migration from 7.1(5) to 10.5 and during final rebuild/restore of the "to-be" production 10.5 Publisher, the DRS server was unresponsive and blamed the Master Agent or SFTP server. I had restarted Master and Local agent repeatedly, and regenerated ipsec certs to no avail.
TAC suggested I try a different SFTP server (which I already had, with the same files), and try deleting the .xml files that were included with the backup (drfComponent.xml and processhost.xml). I installed TitanFTP, per TAC's recommendation, deleted the processhost.xml file, regenerated the ipsec certificate one last time, restarted DRF Master, and then DRF Agent, and was able to start a DRS Restore.
Try the above process if you're still having issues.

  • BE6000 ordering process for HA or migrations

There have been some questions around BE6000 ordering for HA or migrations.
For the purpose of HA or Migration, the software starter bundle is NOT required.  you only need to purchase the server bundle : BE6K-ST-BDL-K9=
Case 1:  customer already have a BE6000 solution running, but they want to purchase a redundacy sever.  THey can just order the server BE6K-ST-BDL-K9= without ording the sw starter bundle.
case 2: customer migrated from 5K or other UC platforms to BE 6000, the can use the 9X3 program to migrate license with low cost, and just need to order the server BE6K-ST-BDL-K9= without ordering the sw starter bundle.

You just need to buy the server BE6K-ST-BDL-K9=, and rehost the licenses.
But smartnet need to be changed since this is a different hardware.
You current ESW and UCSS license are OK, but please make sureyou purchase the right one for BE6000 afteryour current ones expires.
    THanks
    Jing
