BE5k to 6k

Hi Jaime,
I had a discussion before on the migration of data from BE5k 7.0 to BE6k standalone CUCM/CUC and you mentioned that exporting of the bat file was the only method if I didnt want to upgrade the existing BE5k.
The Cisco document that was seen on this forum for upgrades like these spoke about upgrading to 9.1 and then performing the BAT and import to 9.1 VM and then I can upgrade that to 10.5.
Have their been many persons that have followed this document? and was it successful? I have reached to TAC and they weren't able to provide that feedback based on their experience.
I am scheduled to upgrade the customer environment this Sat and we will be moving from version 7.0 to 9.1, this requires three upgrades to reach the final version. And then I will be exporting the file and importing it to a 9.1 standalone cucm and will then to proceed to upgrade to 10.5. Also for the cuc i will be using cobras to copy the data from 9.1 to 10.5.
Any there any issues in this process? My concern is that after i export the bat from the upgraded mcs that not all the data will be imported to the cucm 9.1. Has anyone every encountered this issue?
Thanks

BAT only exports device and other configs, if you had tweaked anything under enterprise parameters, or service parameters for example, that won't be in the BAT files.
But then again, there is no other way to export the info from a 5K to a 6K or 7K other than BAT, which can only export so much.

  • BE5K upgrade to 9

Hello.  I have a Business edition 5000 running on a MCS 7828H3.  Its versions are CUCM System version: 6.1.3.1000-16 , and CUC Version 2.1.3ES23.1000-23.
Am I to follow the upgrade docs for full CUCM/CUC?  Also, i know there are requirements when using the 7828 and 7825 that you need an externally powered 128G usb drive.  Is this still true for BE5K?
As the voicemail storage is on box, Im assuming that the upgrade iso will also take care of any message store reconfigs.
Thoughts and comments are appreciated.  Thanks

Yes, you'll need a USB HD if upgrading to 8.6 or above:
You must attach a 128-GB USB drive to the Connection server if you are upgrading a Cisco MCS 7825-H3 server, the equivalent HP DL320G5, or a Cisco MCS 7828-H3 server (for Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition). This is because the upgrade converts these servers from hardware RAID to software RAID, and the hard disks are reformatted. The USB drive is required so Connection data and voice messages are not lost during the upgrade.
Here is the BE5k release notes and product docs:

  • BE5k to BE6k Migration tar file fails

Hi we are upgrading from a CUCMBE5k to 6k (CUCM 9.1.2)
Our existing server is on an HP MSC server and we purchased the Cisco UCS C220 server. We are following the below guide which outlines creating the server then import/export the tar files from the old server into the new CUCM. Because this is on a new server I'm bring the new one up in parallel then i will cut over.
When I run the import it fails. Attached is the job schedular failier. The log files have some info however, how much do I need to manipulate this info, if I can. Has anyone run into this issue with the TAR files failing?
    Thanks,
    Mike

There is no migration path for CUCM off of a BE5k. You must build the new CUCM cluster from scratch. If you're patient, you can use BAT Import/Export to carry over most of the data; however, it'll require a lot of massaging in Excel as the columns will be different between the export from your older version and the import on 9.1(2). Note that you can carry CXN mailboxes over using COBRAS but you must be on CXN 7.x or newer.
If you have installed Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition 5000 on an MCS-7828 server, and you decide that you need to migrate to separate Cisco Unified Communications Manager and Cisco Unity Connection environments for increased scalability and capacity, you can reuse that MCS-7828 server to run Cisco Unified Communications Manager in a MCS-7825 cluster. Although you can reuse the server, you must reenter your data on the server manually. You must also obtain another server to run Cisco Unity Connection.

  • Migrating from BE5k to CUCM 9.1 and Unity Connection 9.1 (not BE6k)

    Hello,
We are starting to embark down the road of migrating from our BE5k system, to separated CUCM and Unity 9.1 systems on UCS Blades running ESXi.  I was wondering if there might be some documentation already existing on how we might accomplish this.  I have done upgrades in the past, and I'm sure there's a COP file or 3 that I need to install to make it all work properly.  I searched the Cisco site for such documents, but couldn't really find anything specific.
We'll also be migrating our Cisco Presence from the old MCS platform to the UCS ESXi setup as well.
    Thanks for the help.
    Cheers,
    Mark

    Thanks George,
That's the documentation for migrating to BE6k.  We are breaking away from the BE platform and doing full installs for CUCM and CUC.  Does the same article apply?
I suspected that the Presence would be that simple, but just wanted to make sure.
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • BE5K to Virtual CUCM and Unity Connection 10.5(2)?

    Hi,
I am migrating a CUCM and Unity Connection 8.6 from physical server to CUCM and Unity 10.5(2) and I estimate about 2-hour effort with PCD to migrate the CUCM to be ready for testing. Not sure about Unity Connection Part though. The physical server is serving 120 users with 3 remote locations(via MGCP) and complex integration with other systems. I only done greenfield deployment before...no migration/upgrade experience...
    Simple/not simple questions:
    1. Will the 2-hour be enough for CUCM?
    2. PCD doesnot seem support migration of Unity Connection to 10.5. What is the recommended approach? Gradually move data or cutover?
    3. From your experience, how long it takes for upgrading/migrating Unity Connection?
I have these 2 documents from Cisco as my reference, any other recommendations?
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/ucmapMigrate/10_5_1/CUCM_BK_M24251C0_00_migrate-procedure-for-cucm_1051/CUCM_BK_M24251C0_00_migrate-procedure-for-cucm_1051_chapter_01.html
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/10x/upgrade/guide/10xcucrugx/10xcucrug022.html

Thanks for pointing it out. I did not realize BE5K is not supported by PCD.
Will this be my next best bet then:
Install version 8.6.2 VM in ESXi
Export info using BAT from BE5K
Import info into 8.6.2 VM on ESXi
Upgrade the 8.6(2) VM to v10.5.x (via PCD I guess)
    Test then discconnect BE5K
If I am correct, will 4-hour be enough?
I also saw some other suggested to do in-software upgrade to 9.x than export... I just feel that is too risky...BE5K is already a single point of failure what happens if in-software upgrade failed...

  • CUCM BE5K Migration To BE6K v.10

    Hi All,
currently we have CUCM BE5K and we are migrating to BE6K v10. Currently the version of the call Manager is 6.1.5.11900-13.
so in order to migrate , can i follow the below the steps:
First can we installed the same version of CUCM 6.1.5.11900-13. in UCS Server, take the backup from existing cucm and restore it in New Installed CUCM.
If we restored the  Backup on New CUCM, then the  procedure for  migration to  CUCM v. 10
kindly let me know the procedure is correct , or any document/link for migrating.. that would be helpful
    thank you...

No, jump upgrade does NOT apply for 5K, 5K is ONLY supported on MCS. PCD is also not supported on 5K
5K to 6K involves taking as much info as possible using the import/export ability from BAT, then taking that into your 6K CUCM. A CUCM backup from 5K, can only be used on another 5K install.

  • End user migration

    I am moving from a be5k to a be6k
I am also going from non LDAP to LDAP integration
The end users IDs in the current Be5k environment match the userId as defined on on LDAP
My question is what is the best way to accomplish this with the least amount of having to go touch every user ?
My thought was to do a user export from the be5k and import that on my be6k...(however, it appears that my Controlled device field does not make it)
and once I have all this turn on my LDAP sync.
It appears that the user then converts from a local user to an LDAP user as the user ID is the same---which is really awesome !
At least my tests seem to bear this out
If I can somehow get the controlled device field exported out then I think that this process would work
Anyone have any experience doing this and any best practices ?
    Thanks in Advance
    Pete

  • User Migration Licenses from BE5000/CME to 9.X ?

    Hello All,
I would really appreciate if someone can help me understand how does Cisco send the migration user licenses after purchase?
here is a brief summary of what my customer is trying to migrate from :
    - Customer has a BE5000 site with some 7962 phones and another CME site with some 7962/7937 phones
    - from reading the ordering guide I see I can use the following part numbers to migrate from those sites to 9.X
    L-MIGB-UCM-UWL-PRO & L-MIGE-UCM-UWL-PRO
    - Both sites have had their equipment shut down more than 3 months ago so we have no access to those servers incase the process involves logging on those systems to migrate the user licenses.
The question I have is if I order migration licenses via those part numbers, do cisco send a PAK key or will I need to run something on the old BE5000 or CME to be able to retrieve those upgrade licenses?
    Thank you

    Hi,
what I understand that u are using BE5K with version 8.x on MCS 7828 or below and are upgrading to Call Manager version 9 on different platform[Virtualised] ?
the Part codes mentioned say that u are migrating Basic & Enhanced Users to Professional Users and placing the order since u do not have UCSS contract.
You will get the single PAK code for total number of users to be migrated and the same needs to be entered on www.cisco.com/go/license along with ELM file .This file u would get once u migrate successfully to version 9 [license MAnagement---Licenses --other fulfiment options--generate ,now copy from ELM and paste on license page]
other way is write mail to [email protected] along with Sales Order Number  and License Count Utility [LCU report] taken from existing call manager version .LCU is downloadable from Cisco.
    regds,
    aman

  • Upgrade from CUCM and Unity 3.x to CUCM Business Edition 8.5

I'm trying to find the recommended upgrade path from CUCM 3.x and Unity to 3.x to a single CUCM Business Edition 8.5 server.  As far as I can see there is no migration strategy from call manager cluster environment to a Business Edition environment.  If there isn't has anyone done this and if so what steps did you take.  As it stands right now I'm thinking of building it fresh but I would think there would be some more efficient way to do it.  Any suggestions?

    Hi Philippe
Not necessarily. If you're going to BE6K, then there should be a path to upgrade each of your applications from their current versions. As BE6K implements CUCM and CUC as separate VMs, you should simply be able to follow the well documented mechanisms to upgrade these platforms.
If you're going from Unity to CUC (any versions), then you'll need to use COBRAS for this available form the unitytools web site.
The method I've used for for CUCM upgrades (7.1(5) and higher).
    1. Build CUCM under VMware at the same release as your physical appliance with same IP address and hostname (obviously put this on an isolation VLAN).
    2. DRS backup current PUB and DRS restore onto new VM.
    3. Upgrade new VM PUB to whichever release you want to get to following standard upgrade instructions. Note you may need to get a temporary V7 license from Cisco for this, otherwise you may not be able to upgrade (you'll receive a message saying upgrades not allowed in grace license period).
    4. Rehost existing CUCM licenses. If you're going to V9, carefully check your license status before doing the upgrade. There's a few gotachs here, one recent one is that analog devices attached to VG2XX gateways now consume licenses whereas they didn't in earlier versions of CUCM.
If you're going to BE5K then it will be a manual process start to finish using BAT for CUCM, although COBRAS should work for Unity to CUC.

  • Upgrading CCM from 7.0 to 7.1(5)

    Hi Team,
Do we need license to upgrade the CCM version from CCM 7.0 to 7.1(5).
    BR

I just did this upgrade last night.  The system went into demo mode on the node license.  As I'm taking it on up to 8.6 tonight I'm not worried about it, but wanted to let people know there is some process they will have to do if staying at 7.1(5)

PS: if it matters, this is a BE5k system.

  • CUCM 9.1 When pressing Messages button it shows select service

    Hi there,
Just finished a migration from BE5K to BE6k and I have some phones with issues accessing the voicemail by pressing the Messages button. they receive a message that says Select Service. this was working before the migration off course!
do you have any idea why this could be happening ?
I forgot to add the version of CUCM that I'm running is 9.1 (Latest)
    Thank you

This will happen anytime there is more than one Phone Service of Messages type subscribed to the phone. This can either happen globally using the Enterprise Subscription option; or, on the phone itself. I have seen this happen with BAT jobs where the phones were imported more than once and their config was overwritten but the separate checkbox to delete existing subscribed services was not selected.
Check your services and delete any duplicates. If there aren't any then check the phone itself for a duplicate and clear it out.
