  • Optimal stack for using BEA + JRockit

I have a question about the optimal hardware configuration, because we have some memory problems.
We currently have the following hardware configuration:
    - VMWare ESX 3.5
    - Windows Server 2003 R2 (64-bit) SP2
    - JRockit R27.4.0 (64-bit)
    - BEA Weblogic 9.2 mp2 (32-bit)
    Underlying hardware is a dual-core Xeon (64-bit)
Can someone tell me if this is an ideal configuration and/or if this configuration can result into some problems with memory.
If it is needed to have a Linux environment for better performance, we would like to know this also.
    Many thanks.

We allocate 4 gb for our JVM and weblogic is running fine, so Weblogic will run in 64-bit mode correctly we assume, because there is no >different BEA Weblogic server for 32 or 64 bit, right?WebLogic Server includes a few native components and many downloads bundle the JDK. These downloads come in 32 and 64 bit versions. There is also a generic download, which can run in either mode depending on which JDK you configure it to use.
Next, you tell me that VMWare isn't a supported stack of BEA + JRockit. Can you give us the preferred stack (for best performance) for >running a J2EE application on BEA + JRockit? Redhat Linux?Depends on the application. x86 is generally faster than other hardware architectures. Windows and Linux are approximately equal. We tend to use Windows for memory-intensive benchmarks and Linux for I/O-intensive ones. More recent OSes tend to be slightly faster than older ones etc.

  • Crash in mmFree () from /opt/bea/jrockit-R26.4.0-jre1.5.0

    Hi,
Our telecom application is java based application using jrockit-R26.4.0-jre1.5.0_06.
During tests, we've got the following crash.
Unfortunatly no jrockit dump file was created (sorry about this).
Did you already seen this crash?
Thanks in advance for your answer,
    Cheers

Looks like a crash during GC. Some things to try:
    1) Run with -Xgc:parallel or -Xgc:gencon
    2) Run with -XXnoCompaction (may cause a slow memory leak)
    3) Run with -Xnoopt
    4) Run with -XXnojitinline -Xnoopt
    5) Run with -XXpreopt
If you can get a full dump/core, you can open a ticket with BEA Support and ask them to look at it. Results from the runs above are valuable in either case and a reproducer you can provide us with increases the odds for a quick resolution.

  • Running Tomcat v5.0.28 as a service w/ BEA JRockit v1.4.2_04

    Target platform - Windows 2000 Server sp4.
Using Sun's SDK/JRE implementation (v1.4.2_04), we had no problems getting Tomcat 5.0.28 to run as a service. However, the same cannot be said for BEA JRockit v1.4.2_04.
    Summary...
I've already done some online research and I know that there is a wrapper.properties file that is required. Further, a couple of online references specify the file's certain variable definitions, but one source had posted its info truncated and the other's info didn't work at all. I also know that wrapper.properties should be placed at [Tomcat install dir]\conf\. Tomcat is configured correctly to see the default JRockit installation directory (c:\jrockit-j2sdk1.4.2_04\).
So if possible, what I would like to know is:
    1) The confirmed location for wrapper.properties.
    2) The complete list of correct statement lines for wrapper.properties. A template file here would work.
    3) Any relevant Operating System Environment variables.
    4) Any additional required files and/or operations.
In a pinch, we can live with the Sun JRE implementation for our development environment. But we would rather have our development environment completely mirror our production environment which implements BEA JRockit.
Thanks for your time and help. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Interesting, it might be connected to the optimization of throwException, please try to run with -Xnoopt to see if you can detect any difference. I'll make another post with my further findings.

    Hi,
the BEA JRockit 5.0 JDK Rolling Patch 1 Release is installed on the server

  • Support for JRockit for WebLogic 10.3 in Solaris x86

    Hi All,
I am trying to install JRockit Mission Control 3.1.2 in a Solaris 10 x86 platform.
For Solaris Spark I know there is a special distribution.. For Solaris 10 x86 I am trying to install the generic linux version.
When I try to install the jrmc-3.1.2-1.6.0-linux-ia32.bin I get the following error:
    jrmc-3.1.2-1.6.0: Cannot find /lib/ld-linux.so.2
I also try with 64bit edition of the jrockit mission Control but I get a similar error but trying to find the /lib64/ld-linux.so.2.
Is Solaris 10 x86 supported? Or at least, is there a workaround to install it?
I find some site talking about JRockit for Solaris Spark, but seems to me that Solaris x86 is not supported...
    Thanks in advance
    Pablo

    Hi,
The DTD used in "web.xml" should not cause any issue ...though it's the OLD "web.xml"...Please try to run the Following command to Generate the New Deployment Descriptors from the Existing Application:
Step1). Open a Command Window and Run "setWLSEnv.sh" or "setWLSEnv.cmd".
Step2). In the Command Prompt move to the Current Directory where you have placed your Application and then Run the Following Command
    java weblogic.DDConverter  -d NewDDs  jamagent.war
Here Above Command Will read the "jamagent.war" War archive and then It will generate the New DDs in "NewDDs" directory...Which we need to replace with the OLD DDs present in our WebApplication..

  • BEA JRockit JVM?

Does anyone here (other than me) use JRockit JVM too? I found it's 1.5x faster to start JBoss but very slow for swing apps... I'm not sure if I should switch to it now, please give me suggestions/comments!

Seems pretty obvious - if, in your experience, it's slower for Swing apps, and you mainly use Swing apps, then don't touch it!
Perhaps it's a matter of picking the right tool for the job. JRockit may be better for j2ee systems, in which case utilise its strengths. For Swing apps, just use the standard jvm from Sun.

  • Installation of webgate on Solaris (sparcv9) with WLS 10.3.5 and Apache2

Problem Description: We have installed IDM 11g and OAM 10.1.4.3 on RHEL5.5 hosts, respectively. We have successfully installed all the components:
    Environment Details:
    - Server1 -- 64 bit Intel RHEL5
Fusion Middleware Identity Management - 11.1.1.2
    WLS 10.3.2
    ODSM,OID,OVD
    DB 10.2.0.4
    - Server 2 32-bit Intel RHEL5
    OAM 10.1.4.3
    OHS 11.1.1.2
After successfully installing these hosts, we needed to create a webhost from where we could test our protected resources. This host would have a sparc v9 OS, include WLS 10.3.5, and use apache2 as its web server. These have all been successfully installed by root and are running.
Our next step was to create the webgate/access gate on the OAM host and setup the necessary policy. This was successful.
We then copied Oracle_Access_Manager10_1_4_3_0_sparc-s2_APACHE2_WebGate to the host and started the installation. Since the host is headless (just a host -- no keyboard, mouse, or gui attached to it) we have to ssh to the host and execute all the installs from the command line without gui. When we got to entering the webgate id and hit return... the process just ended without any error or logfiles. We are assuming that at that point the webgate software was installed but not configured.
We went ahead and tried the configureWebGate script:
    ./start_configureWebGate -i /opt/oracle/middleware/webgate -l WebGate
ld.so.1: configureWebGate: fatal: /opt/oracle/middleware/webgate/access/oblix/tools/configureWebGate/../../../oblix/lib/libstdc++.so.5: wrong ELF data format: ELFDATA2LSB
    Killed
We have successfully installed OAM and IDM many times and have installed webhosts as well... but the webhosts have always been RHEL5 with WLS and OHS instead of Sparc, wls, and apache. Is there anything special about a sparc or apache install?
WLS and apache were installed as root... we have tried installing the webgate as root, oracle, even apache... but get the same results. The gcc libs are downloaded and available, but the error we see during configuration seems to indicate that they are not found. We have tried seting the LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include the directory containing the libs.
Edited by: OldGuy on Jul 7, 2011 4:04 AM

On another note... is there a Sparc equivalent for the mod_wl_ohs.conf where we would place
    <Location /<deployed app>>
    SetHandler weblogic-handler
    WebLogicHost <weblogichost>
    WebLogicPort 7001
    </Location>
It appears that this goes into the apache httpd.conf file, correct? Or does the mod_wl_ohs.conf equivalent exist?
We have just about completed everything in regard to being able to include a solaris host in our list of hosts that are tied to OAM. The webgate was created and software installed, the deployed app protected, etc... Everything that we have done for Linux and XP in the past we have done for this Sparc host.
When we try to access the Sparc's protected uri... nothing happens. The browser stays blank... the url does not change to display the oamsso login.html (as the other installs do)... nothing is returned... no error, no remarks, no logfile entries... just a blank browser.

  • Accesing protectred URIs on Solaris (sparcv9) with WLS 10.3.5 and Apache2

I had started to ask questions about this on another thread of mine, but since I had listed that one as answered and this being different from the original question on that thread...I felt it better to create its own thread.
    Problem Description: Environment Details:
    - Server1 -- 64 bit Intel RHEL5
Fusion Middleware Identity Management - 11.1.1.2
    WLS 10.3.2
    ODSM,OID,OVD
    DB 10.2.0.4
    - Server 2 32-bit Intel RHEL5
    OAM 10.1.4.3
    OHS 11.1.1.2
    - Server 3 64-bit SparcV9 Webhost -- deployed app as protected uri
    WLS 10.3.5
    Apache2
    Webgate 10.1.4.3
We believe we have completed everything in regard to being able to include a solaris host in our list of hosts that are tied to OAM. We have installed webhost with XP and RHEL5.6 successfully using OHS 11.1.1.2. This is the first time creating a webhost on Sparc. The webgate was created and software installed, the deployed app protected, etc... Everything that we have done for Linux and XP in the past we have done for this Sparc host. The only differences are the SUN OS, Apache2, and WLS 10.3.5. I believe those are all acceptable for these Oracle products and versions.
When we try to access the Sparc's protected uri... nothing happens. The browser stays blank... the url does not change to display the oamsso login.html (as the other installs do)... nothing is returned... no error, no remarks, ... just a blank browser.
Doing an apachectl -l I receive the following:
    Compiled in modules:
    core.c
    prefork.c
    http_core.c
    mod_so.c
    So mod_so.c is included.
If I go directly to the protected uri through 7001 instead of the 8890 -- the port httpd.conf has configured to listen on -- the page displays. If I open the oamsso/login.html using 8890... it displays. But if I use 8890 to bring up the protected uri... as described above nothing displays.
One other thing, since the Sparc host is "headless" -- as described by our SysAdmin... no access directly through the sun console and no gui access via the sun host since there is no sun console just the server -- we have to access the gui via a browser on the same network. The browser is actually on the OAM host.
From apache2 error_log on SUN host:

I believe that apache is currently setup correctly at this point, but cannot understand what we are missing.

I would say that OAM does support Apache (according to the certified Apache versions and OS's). However, there are so many distributions out there and it can be configured with countless options, be compiled with a number of different compilers, and include any number of modules that some compatibility issues are bound to arise. The Solaris distribution - also Oracle - is a case in point. I have also encountered issues with the Apache version bundled with some Linux versions (for different reasons than the Solaris bundle) for which the easiest solution has also been to download and build from source. I would imagine that is the reason for what you were told about support for generic Apache, though of course I do not know the context.

    Colin

  • Solaris 10 crashes while running find command

I have set up solaris 10 on an intel machine. When I run "find" command the system crashes.
    Please Help
    Thanks in advance

Hi please help me I almost despair,
I have experienced the same problem. When I try to find a file without specifying location (using the shortcut on default desktop in JDS with mouse) the application crashes.
Thereafter I'm not even able to shut down the system as the mouse doesn't seem to react anymore (can point but not click).
I was logged on as root. However maybe it matters that I only just installed Solaris 10 and as I'm a complete beginner with Solaris I don't know if any post-installation configuration is required. Furthermore the same happens with the "Desktop Overview" shortcut (the book icon with the questionmark that appears by default after new installation).
I have chosen the default installation.
    System info:
    nforce4 motherboard, 2GB RAM
    Athlon 64 3800+ x2
Asus geforce 6600gt, driver not yet installed
D-link DWL-G520 wireless pci card, Atheros driver not yet installed (from opensolaris.org)
IDE hard drive for SOLARIS 10
SATA Raid 0 of 2 drives on sil3114 for WIN XP
It would be very kind if someone could help me. I installed Solaris as Ithought it was more stable than Win but probably I am just doing something wrong.
