Beach ball now out of hand!

Downloaded 250 raw images onto my separate hard drive and I now have the dreaded beach ball spinning for hours on end and I have to force quit Aperture - is there a way to 'reset' Aperture 2?

I have the same problem on my Macbook Pro 2.53, 2008. It seems to happen when my ram is maxed on the the laptop. I will probably order an i7 tomorrow. Does this happen when you have a lot of programs open?

As soon as I login to my iMac, the beachball comes out and won't let me do anything. I can't even force quit or shut down computer.

Insert your original install disc and start up while holding the C key. Choose your language and at the next screen instead of starting the installer go to the menu bar on top and click the Utilities menu, select Disk Utility. See if you can repair your hard drive. Also while you're in DU look towards the bottom of the window and check the SMART status of your hard drive, it needs to say verified.

  • MacBook Pro beach ball of death after login

Hello. I have a MacBook pro 13 inch intel core i5that runs os x lion 10.7.1 that is 3 months old. I downloaded a game called prototype in partitions which was 9 Gita bites. After I downloaded it, I tried to concat the partitions with split and concat. However, when I opened the app, everything became laggy and every second a beachballl would pop out. I impatiently held down the power button and turned it on agAin. After a few minutes of waiting, the login screen pops up and I log in successfully. However, as soon as I click macintosh HD a beach ball comes out that spins for at least an hour not exaggerating. Then if I move my cursor a bit, another beach ball comes out. I am in the point that I am starting to think if I should change to windows. I also continuously rebooted too. But same problem....PLEASE HELP TT  TT

It is a good idea to repair permissions after you download software.
every second a beachballl would pop out.

Please someone help me!
    ** Has Warranty**

    Hi Jordan,
Sorry to hear you're having problems. One rule of computer ownership I like to encourage to my users that I support.... Don't ever delete/move/rename a file or folder that you're not absolute certain the purpose and function of on your computer.
Sounds like whatever you deleted caused some havoc. Without having been there to see it, it's difficult to guess, so I won't bother to waste anyone's time.
Have a backup? If not, you can start first by backing up any important personal data you've loaded onto the machine. I'd then proceed with reinstalling the operating system and any of the 3rd party programs you've installed which are not working correctly, like Office and iWork.
The Apple Store may assist you with reinstalling the operating system onto your computer, but their primary support is hardware and software troubleshooting / advice. I know stores use to perform OS installations and such at the Genius Bar, but I'm under the impression that they don't typically do that much anymore. It's worth a visit, if you get stumped on doing the actions yourself, however.

  • Final Cut Pro 7 Beach Balls

I don't know if I imported wrong or if I have the wrong settings but I keep getting the beach call every time I play and pause. Also when I try to mark in or out the beach ball comes out. I've searched online for an answer but I wasn't able to find one. I shot the video with a Canon 60d and I believe i imported the files with the exact same settings. I am using a macbook pro and i have 138 gb left in my harddrive so i know memory is not a problem. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Actually I just found the weirdest thing, every shot except one plays extremely well. There's only one shot that lags to play and pause. Also I don't know which codec is the best to use. I am fairly new at this and since there were so many to pick from I just left it as it is.

  • I accidentally quit my CC on my Macbook pro and now the cloud icon is grayed out and every time I hover over it with the mouse I get the spinning beach ball of death on the icon. I have no idea how to open it because when I use spotlight search to open it

I accidentally quit my CC on my Macbook pro and now the cloud icon is grayed out and every time I hover over it with the mouse I get the spinning beach ball of death on the icon. I have no idea how to open it because when I use spotlight search to open it it gives me a message saying "Creative Cloud is not open anymore" help!

Since you didn't include any pertinent info such as the Mac model and OS version you are running, here is some general information:
Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup
Depending on which OS yours came with originally - and which OS you are now running - you would either need your original install disks - you can call Apple for replacements by giving them your serial number. Or you may be able to reinstall the OS by using recovery (again, depends on which model/which OS).

There is no such Trojan or other malware known today that will do that using OS X nor has there ever been one. The most probable explanation is that somebody hacked into your e-mail account on the server, so you should change that password to something stronger right away. If it had come from your Mac then there would almost certainly be copies of those messages in your Sent Mail mailbox.

My MacBook (late 2009 Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) often runs VERY slow...beach ball of death frequently.  My page ins (3.29GB), page outs (5.64BG), and swap files (10GB) seem extremely high in comparison to most other discussions in here.   I don't know how to copy the pie chart so it shows on here but here's what it says right now:
    Free - 176 MB
    Wired - 592MB
    Active - 843MB
    Inactive - 432MB
    Used - 1.82 GB
    VM size - 198GB
The page ins and page outs have 0 bytes/sec in the parenthesis even though the numbers are so high.
Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated!!!

You difinately need more ram. 2gb is the bare minimum to run just the Lion OS, anything extra will slow your Mac to a crawl. Upgrade to 8gb from either Crucial http://www.crucial.com/ or OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/
And you will be a happy camper!

  • MAC OS Task Delays (page outs - spinning beach ball)?

I know there have been many threads with this issue. Upon reading up on this, it appears to be a RAM issue – but hear me out.
I recently upgraded the memory on my MacPro 4,1 (running Snow Leopard 10.6.8), with 12 new GBs of RAM from OWC. I threw one of the former 1GBs in the remaining slot, and am now running a total of 13GBS of RAM. Overdue, but a vast improvement. Machine was running great for about 2 weeks, until yesterday morning.
I now have a 4 to 5 second delay (beach ball), on most types of tasks. It appears to be random, but some repeated tasks produce no delay. I understand that when my Mac runs out of RAM it uses HD space to complete tasks, but with 13GBs of RAM, I'm not even close. I opened the Activity Monitor, and it is not showing anything close to insufficient RAM in the monitored activity.
So, what could be producing the random delays when it's not related to insufficient RAM?

Self reply. It would seem this issue has be resolved for now, but I can't tell you definitively what the problem was. I took the following steps for what it's worth to those reading:  1. I removed the extra 1GB RAM module, and went with the 12 GB (3 x 4GB).  2. I restarted from the installation disc, and ran Utilities – performing Permissions, and disc Verify. Upon restart to HD OS, it appeared that the problem was still there, but after about 10 min. it wasn't. Back to normal operating speed. Go figure.

  • Spinning beach ball getting worse. Out of ideas.

Last night I tried watching something on Netflix and I got the black screen and the beach ball after a few minutes a pop up with "script: xstringbundle:61" popped up. After shutting down everything and restarting my Mac I tried again, same thing, but I continued script and got an different error message "script:chrome://browser/content/browser.js:4037".
I did my best armchair research and restarted it all again, uninstalled silver light, and JavaScript, reinstalled them, clear my cookies and caches, tried to check some other things without success so I didn't touch them and now the beach ball is worse and affecting my Mac without Firefox being on, such as trying to open finder and the like. Help a girl out, please! I need my computer for work and have wasted the last 4 hours trying to do it myself.

    Hi there,
It seems like something may have gotten corrupt on your drive.
Start your macBook Pro while holding down the Command R keys to boot your MBP with the Recovery HD.
In the Recovery HD, open up Disk Utility.  Do a drive repair as well as a permissions repair to see if that fixes your issue.
If this does not fix the issue, you can again use Command R and then reinstall the version of Mac OS that you have on your MBP.
Just a note.  If you install Mac OS over your existing installation you will not lose any of your data on the drive

  • I moved all my photos to my external drive. I then deleted my iphoto library and re-imported them from the external. Once iphoto created it's folder structure on my external, I deleted mine. Now my computer just "beach balls" all day when I turn it on.

i have a 2006 iMac with a 160 HD and 1GB of ram. I recently got a 2TB external hard drive and transfered all my pictures to that. Once I had a solid folder structure for my photos, I dragged them all to iPhoto. Once iPhoto had created its own folder structure of my photos, I deleted my own folder structure, so that I wouldn't have multiple copies. It all sounded like a great plan, but now my computer just "beach balls" every time I turn it on.

What does this have to do with iPhoto? If you're computer isn't starting up properly I'd be posting on the OS forum for whatever version of the OS you have.
    Regards
    TD

I am running 10.7.5, and I do not want to update to 10.9 at the moment. I updated Safari, and now it will not load. It gets stuck at a white screen with the beach ball of death. Any ideas? Thanks.

I uninstalled Glims. That solved the problem.
