Beat Mapping is changing speed of audio region, not the metronome!!!

Hi Everyone,
I just today learned about beat mapping in Logic. I used it on one song that i'd recorded previously without a click track and it worked like a charm. I'm trying to use it on a different song now (same situation: previously recorded with no click) but for some reason with this song, it's changing the speed/length of my audio region to match the metronome instead of changing the speed of the metronome to match the speed of the audio. What's going on?!
Thanks a bunch.

Well after many hours of searching through Logic Forums and flipping through the Logic Reference Manual, all to no avail, I've finally figured out what the problem was. I needed to uncheck the "Follow Te(mpo)" option in the Region Parameter Box for the region I was trying to beat map. The beat mapping process wasn't actually changing the length/speed of my audio region like I said it was in my initial post; it was simply playing over it slower or faster in order to preserve the audio-to-tempo ratio as I made the tempo slower or faster. All I needed to do was uncheck that little box and now beat mapping works exactly as described in the Reference Manual. WHY ON EARTH is the "Follow Te(mpo)" box not mentioned when discussing beat mapping?! More importantly, why is it not mentioned ANYWHERE in the entire Reference Manual?!?!? NOT ONCE!!! unbelievably frustrating.

  • Changing the volume of a specific Audio Region in the arrange

Is there the possibility to increase or lower the volume of an individual audio region? Similarly to the way one would use the hyper editor for a midi region? So to clarify it in other words. I would like to increase the volume of a specific audio region in the arrange page without using the track automation.
    <Edited by Moderator>

Just open the sample editor (default key command "W", or double click the audio region). Highlight the waveform area you want to gain change by clicking and dragging your mouse across it, and under the functions menu, select "Change Gain" (default key command control/G).
This is destructive editing, although the sample editor has it's own undo history, separate from that of the Logic song.
To play it safe, make a copy of the audio file first, and edit from that.

  • Help getting  desired audio  region into the sample editor

Chapter 21 of the manual is of no help. Assume I have to audio regions on the same track--singer sang first part of song..... big pause... then sings second half of song ( same track but two distinct ausio regions) All I want to do is be able to quickly have a desire region show up in the sample editor to do edits. The actual instructions about editing are pretty clear. But getting the correct region to show up in the sample editor is the hard part. Even if I click the audio track and click the audio region desired, some other region or some region on another track will be there. And I can't change. This shouldn't be that hard. +I do not to have this problem with piano roll and software intrument regions. You simply click a software track region and click piano roll and the detail of the region shows up+...... Is there a simple protocol for getting a desired audio region to show up in sample editor. Notice that there is no clear explanation for this basic, antecedent task in Chapter 21.

You can't really 'quantize' audio. If it is a single track like stacatto mute guitar, or snare drum hits - you could. Use the 'strip silence command' and then in the list editor highlight all the individual pieces of audio and quantize that.
But if the audio is continous or there are too many notes very close together you will not be able to do that.
If you mean that the track was a 'real guitar' (by musiclab) - yes you can quantize the midi notes.

  • How do I copy just the main region of a looped region & not the loops?

How do I copy just the main region of a looped region & not the looped bits?
Sometimes on the last iteration of a loop, I want to make a slight change in the notes, and therefore need to insert and actual copy. When I copy the original region and paste it, it overwrites everything that follows...deleting a whole bunch of arranging that I just did. Is there a command to copy only the original region? Otherwise I have to unloop the region, copy, insert, and reloop the region. Thanks

Either you have a lot of Pages breaks which you can delete or you have aded a Pages break which you also can delete. Turn on the invisible characters View > Show Invisibles. You will see blue characters.

  • Stop tempo changing speed of audio

So Logic X seems to by default change the speed of audio when you change the tempo. How can you stop this from happening if you don't want it to?

Uncheck Follow Tempo in the Inspector.

  • How to fire "table change" once click other regions outside the table erea?

I have a JTable created with DefaultTableModel. Usually the edit behavior of table cell is like this:
    1) Select one cell, it is highlighted in blue.
    2) Double click the cell, it's made editable with white background.
    3) Two scenarios
    (a) Once finish edit, press "Enter", the cell background turns from white to blue. At the same time, the table change is "fired" .
    (b) Once finish edit, click another cell, the originall cell turns white, and the new-clicked cell is highlighted in blue. At the same time, the table change is "fired".
    4) While editing one cell, and click somewhere OUTSIDE the table area. In this case, the table change is NOT fired.
[This cause a confusion, user sees the changed text in table cell, but actually it is not stored and will not be stored in the table.]
So what I want to implement is: once click the region outside the table, the text in that editabe cell (where you are just editing) is stored and fired.
Can you help me? Thanks in advance!

    sabre150 & other experts,
[see background in my first message]
User is still not completely satisfied with the current behavior, though "table changed" can be fired when clicking other controls(eg. buttons or checkboxes).
If I click a panel region(instead of a particular control), the "table changed" can not be fired. However, it is expected.
    I guess the reason is:
a panel doesn't has a focus. so when clicking panel, the focus is not "lost" to the table cell.
    Any hints?

  • Recording more than one audio region on the same track

When I record my audio, i set up one track, with loads of plugins to record my main vocals on. If i want more than one vocal sample to play together with the same eq, ill put them both on the same track but Logic wont allow this and will play the latest entering region and suddenly cut off the other one. Can anyone provide me with a solution as to how to deal with this? Thanks

copy your performance to a new audio track
in the channel strip of the original, you can copy the channel strip settings from the pull down menu and paste them into the new tracks channel strip

  • Why can I only change chapter and Audio, but not subtitles?

I have a little problem, and I don't understand WHY it should be a problem.
I have started ripped all my movies into a local computer for home sharring. We have some Apple TVs in the house and everything works well for ripping and watching movies.
All our movies has been ripped in HandBrake and thereafter metatagged in MetaX. In Handbrake I choose the standard A TV 2, which languages I want and which subtitles I want.. The funny part is, that When I try to watch the movie in either iTunes or Apple TV, it is only possible for me to select chapter and Audio. I am sure I am not the first one to experience this, so if somebody could tell me if I do anything wrong? Or is it just iTunes and Apple TV that won't let you change more that 2 different data?
i have tried to rip a movie without any chapters (a very short movie) and then it was possible for me to change the subtitles, but nothing else.. I donøt understand it and it is very confusing.. :/ Please help somebody.. Just tell me if it is my fault or it is Apple's fault..

  • Audio import changes speed of audio

    Hi,
I am trying to edit and mix sound effects and music for a FLASH animation in ProTools.  After much trial and error I figured out how to make an accurate Quick Time of my FLASH file to spot sounds to in ProTools.  The problem is when I import my audio into FLASH, it speeds up making it out of sync with the picture.  I did several tests and it looks like for ever minute of ProTools the audio in FLASH speeds up 2 frames.  Both programs are running at 24 FPS.
It is not a NTSC vs Flim speed issue.  All other programs read my PT audio file correctly and show it to be the correct length with the SFX where I placed them.  FLASH speeds it up, making my animation not time to the music and effects causing me to painfully resync all my layers.
How do I accurately export a sound file into an AIFF format and import it into FLASH without FLASH changing the speed?  I have my audio set to Stream as it should be.  After 3 minutes my audio is 8 frames (1/3 of a second) out of sync with the picture.  This is totally unacceptable to me and my client.
I am highly versed in ProTools and other video software but am brand new to flash.  Ultimately I want my FLASH timeline to be in sync with my PT timeline.  Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Thank you for the ideas.  I really want to import a WAV but I can't make FLASH CS5 import it.  It says "One or more files were not imported because there was a problem reading them."  My WAV file is readable by every other program just fine.  I made an AIFF of exactly the same audio with the same export settings in PT and FLASH will import that except it changes the speed by .1432%
*Note:  This is not an NTSC vs FLIM speed issue otherwise it would be eactly .1%.  I am 100% confident my audio file from PT is at film speed and it does import correctly into other programs like Final Cut without speeding up.
I made an export from PT as an MP3 CBR and that audio file speed up even more.  It was over 1/2 second off right from the beginning.  I don't know how to use the Adobe Media Encoder or what an FLV file is but I am sure I could figure it out.  In theory I shouldn't have to do that as FLASH should import audio without changing the speed for any given format.
Again my FLASH setting for the audio file is set to STREAM.
While we are talking about FLASH, I'd like to figure out how to change my timeline to black and white for a given range of frames in the middle of my animation.  How do I set this up so the B&W effect affects all the layers in the stack for a given range of frames?  I am very new to FLASH so you may have to give me exact steps on what to select and how to change it to a movie clip etc... if that is the way to do this.
    Thanks,
    David

  • How to change content of audio region

    Dear Logic Pro Discussion
Is there any way you can swap the audio file in a region with that of another one but keeping the audio start position, for example if you had two or three takes that you wanted to choose from but keeping the audio on the same track. ~I know i Pro Tools LE you can open up a little drop down menu and swap the file easily.
Anyone know how to do this
    Thanks
    Jonny

There isn't a practical way to do what you're wanting, at least that I'm aware of.
Have you tried doing this? I think you'll find that it's a great way to record multiple takes. And, I find it much more intuitive than PT's playlists.
For starters, if you have recorded 4 tracks of a lead vocal, you can then easily color code the phrases, or even words, that you want to use in a comped track. This is all visible in front of you. And you can, for instance, mute all the various sections of the vocal, except those that you have color coded as good, to quickly see how the comp will sound.
When finished, you can grab all the same colored regions, and use the "Move selected Regions to Track" command, and all the regions that you have selected as "keepers" will jump to the newly created and selected track.
You can than make use of the track hide feature, to tuck away all the duplicate track instances. They'll all be out of sight, yet you can get them back instantly should you decide to try different takes as options later.
Definitely spend some time checking this out. It's one of the often overlooked features of Logic. It sounds to me like you have "But PT does it like this- itis".
Give this a go... I think you'll see what I mean.

  • Changing "speed" of audio interview

I recorded an audio interview with a faulty tape recorder, on playback on a different recorder sounds too slow.  how can i bring the voice back to normal with audition 3?

You could try raising the pitch
In Multitrack view from the main menu select
Effects > Time and Pitch > Pitch Shifter
You will have to experiment and you probably only need to adjust the 'cents' but it depends on how 'slow' the tape was
Edit: DOH! Just realised you were after Au3 but it took me all this time to reinstall my Au3 as I had recently replaced my hard drive
Anyway its much the same in Au3 except in Multitrack view you click on the fx rack in the channel strip first and in Edit view its Effects > Time and Pitch > Pitch Shifter

  • Please recommend the best audio interface not the firebox!!!!

i am not sure if this unit is doing what i want it to do.
what audio interface are you using (firewire) to record external synth/guitar
and recording out of its audio outs to a recording device like a minidisc at the same time monitors are connected to it. The firebox is eccentric, sometimes the drivers are there in the midi audio and sometimes they arent.
which brand are you using with consistent results?
its always hit and miss with this firebox. im using OS 10.4.11 and just upgraded the new software mixer and control at its web site.
garageband has gotten so good now its the audio interface failing me.
    thanks

I use the M-Audio Firewire solo. It's super reliable and I think it's got everything you need. As long as your drivers are good, you're good to go. Just make sure that you DO NOT plug it in when the computer is on (as with all firewire products)! I ruined one that way.. then turned around and bought another one.
    Love the thing.
