BECAREFUL / Update Leopard 10.5.5 October 17 // break apache serveur

Hello,
I've just seen the post just before. I confirm, after the security update and something for sharing
DVD and CD on october 17th, apache stops running for local use.
I try the restart from the backup of yesterday (before the update) to confirm from where the problem comes. So tonight I install the yesterday's backup after erasing my computer.
I hope my advice will help.

Like I said yesterday, I install the "day before" computer back up and apache run normaly today. So I'm sure that commes from this up date (security or cd and dvd sharing).

I don't think, because before these updates, the connection to the game was perfect (with security update 2008-002) and leopard 10.5.2 !! i don't understand this problem.
With others Mac and safari without these updates, the connection is good !

Sparesbundles are only used when the backups are on a Time Capsule drive.
in terminal, type:
find . -name "*.sparsebundle"
to see what you find. they tend to be large files, so can more easily get corrupted in backups if something bad happens during backup.
I'm not certain, but i think the missing admin access may be an issue.

At one time Apple was providing free copies of 10.6 to MobileMe subscribers, I doubt they still do though, not sure.

Most recent update to Photoshop CC and Bridge breaks use with snow leopard. need previous vsn

The most recent version of Bridge CC installed with adobe's updater killed my systems year long use of Bridge CC so it won't load. I need the previous version. I can't update to 10.7 for technical and other software workflow reasons. How can I get back to the previous vsn that did work yesterday?

I would guess you need to uninstall bridge cc and then reinstall without applying the 6.1 update
(use the uninstaller in /Applications/Adobe Bridge CC)

System Preferences, Software Update, Leopard Freezes

I got Leopard 10.5.5, and have kept it pretty up to date through my use of it. However, recently, I've started to experience some problems. First, I noticed that I couldn't open system preferences. On the dock, the white ball is displayed under it, showing that its running, but no window pops up. Furthermore, I can't quit it, and Force quit won't work either. I've tried opening system preferences from a variety of ways, including spotlight, finder, trying to change the desktop background, etc. None of these seemed to work, and just freeze up the system. I've tried to restart, reset, and update the system to see if that was the problem. However, the software update program also freezes up, and won't force quit either. Any suggestions before I try to reinstall Leopard completely?

No, I've been debating getting a hard drive for the past year, but keep waiting for the prices to lower so I can get a better one. Guess what I'm getting myself for christmas. What do you mean an archive and install? I'm not really sure how to completely install and all. I think I may just put all my documents and files on an external. Completely swipe the drive. And Restart. I need to fix my windows partition too, because I have to use a lot more space than I expected due to school work (engineering is not fun on macs). This break is not going to be fun. If I'm under warranty still, can I take it to the store and can they do this for me? Thanks

Error message when trying to update Leopard 10.5.1 to 10.5.2

I was happy when I switched from PC to Mac a year ago. But since upgrading to Leopard I have had so many problems that it reminds me of my (bad) experience with Windows... Where I live in dark Africa there is no support at all, so I hope some of you have a solution for my problems.
Since upgrading to Leopard I have had a lot of minor problems, which are quite irritating. But now it is getting serious, as a number of updates have failed. I just bought Aperture 2, which needs OSX 10.5.2. And now I can't upgrade form 10.5.1 to 10.5.2!
First I couldn't run the Security Update 2007-09, downloaded through Software Update. The error message said: The update "Security Update" can't be installed. The installer could not validate the contents of the "SecUpd2007-09" package. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
I then tried - in vain - to install the 10.5.2 upgrade: The error message says almost the same as the above mentioned, but mentions "MacOSXUpd10.5.2Patch".
I then tried to follow the recommendations and downloaded the MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.2 file. 343,4 MB through my 64 kb/s connection (!!!). Imagine the nightmare, when the error message appeared: "Checksum Invalid".
Maybe I should add that when trying to update Quicktime the error message said something about that the operation failed because there was tampered with the file...!

In fact I have tried both the normal software update a couple of times AND downloading the combo installer. The message, when trying to install the latter, was "Checksum Invalid". Is it possible that the files get corrupt during download? I am getting crazy - I need the upgrade to 10.5.2 in order to upgrade Aperture 1.5 to 2.0, which again is necessary in order to download images from my new camera... :((

[SOLVED] xf86-video-intel update to 2.99.912-1 breaks video rendering

After a full system update today video playback in X windows (both hardware-accelerated and not) breaks horribly. Playing back videos causes tearing, black areas of the screen and then a hard lock-up.
Looking back through the updated packages and testing one-by-one reveals the immediate culprit to be the update to xf86-video-intel from 2.99.911-2 to 2.99.912-1. Rolling back just this package restores everything to working order (including hardware-accelerated video).
Other hopefully relevant installed packages:

I had the same issue and downgrading to 2.99.911 fixed it.
Could you file a bug report for the package to disable the Tear-Free option again?

Macbook Will Not Boot After Updating Leopard

I just reinstalled Leopard after having some trouble with my partition tables, and everything ran smoothly and worked fine. After the install I let software update update everything including the 10.5.5 update. It prompted me to reboot, and when I did it got to the grey Apple screen and the thing spun for about 30 seconds before it restarted and did it again. This happened a few times and then I booted from a Leopard disk to look at disk permissions and they seem to be fine. Anyone have any idea why this is happening or how I would fix it?

At start up, press 'C' to boot directly from a CD/DVD. Or, you can press 'Option' and you should get a list of bootable selections (CD/DVD, external hardrives) that you can boot from - assuming you have something that IS bootable.
I recently had a problem and ended up reinstalling my OS (via TimeMachine). I also confirmed that you can boot from your original OSX install disk. As part of this process I also discovered I could NOT boot directly FROM the AppleCare provided TechTools Deluxe disk. Supposedly you can boot INTO that disk via a restart but that seems kind of silly to me.
However, if you have signed up for AppleCare and go to the Apple Support web site, you can download TechTools Deluxe and it can be made bootable by burning the .dmg file via Apple Disk Utilities. I don't understand Apple logic of not making the provided AppleCare TechTools Deluxe disk bootable.

Can't update - Leopard asks for erasing drive

I've just successfully updated iMac and wanted to do the same on my MacPro, where I have BootCamp. During installation, Leopard doesn't want to do update (Macintosh HD drive as well as others has yellow screamer mark), but wants to erase my drive and do clean install. Any idea why? I don't want to do clean install. It doesn't offer any other option that clean install.

Any one know about if FIOS1 will have a channel in NYC ? Im tiold the end of the year , anyone have an update ?
I hear FIOS Digital Voice will launch in NY on Sept 30 .

It has definitely nothing to do with the card. As I said, I had successfully imported all photos from the camera in mid October, added locations, watched a diashow and published an album of that event on MobileMe.
One thing I remember: Two weeks ago I had the MacBook at a friend's place, importing a couple of photos just for a diashow. After the show I closed the MacBook (very likely) without quiting iPhoto and put it back into the bag. Maybe the library got corrupted at this point? Maybe iPhoto was still writing data during the shutdown, or something.
For documentaion sake: I have deleted the corrupted album in Photo yesterday. Emptying the trashbin afterwards made iPhoto (and eventually the entire OS) freezing again, so I had to manually kill and restart iPhoto. After restarting iPhoto the trashbin contained a couple of placeholders and photos of the corrupted album. Emptying the trashbin worked fine the second time.
How can I check the entire library for data integrity?
Why on earth is the entire OS freezing for minutes when Finder is trying to read a corrupted image file? There should be presented an error message to the user immediately.

No Bluetooth even after PRAM and PMU resets, fully updated Leopard

Subject should explain pretty much everything. I reset the PRAM and PMU to try to get my Bluetooth back (it doesn't even appear in System Profiler). Still nothing. Leopard with all updates. Any suggestions, before I take it in?

Unlike the previous PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD), the AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth 2.0 functions are on separate cards.
If Bluetooth system preferences does not show up under Hardware system preferences...
1. Check for software/firmware updates on the web.
2. Check the Bluetooth card flex cable. Make sure the cable is not damaged and fully seated.
3. Check the hard drive flex to main logic board.
4. Replace the Bluetooth card.
5. Replace the hard drive flex.
6. Replace the logic board.

How do I update Leopard after re installation - installation of update not working!

I have re installed Leopard due to issues with some software crashing. Now I'm trying to install the latest update which is approximately 700-800mb. The problem I'm having is once I have downloaded the latest updates and once I try to restart it the installation takes forever. Last night I left it on all night about 12 hours for it to install but when I checked the next morning it hadn't moved from it's previous spot from the night before and it was still at 'Configurating'. Does the update installation take this long or longer? Is there a problem? Should I try re installing Leopard again? It was running Leopard 10.5.8 and now after installation it has reverted to 10.5.4 but the updates just not installing properly. PLEASE HELP!

Latest Updates - Leopard screwed up

On the whole, leopard 10.5.2 has been really good and very reliable after i got past the initial teething problems.
But after the most recent updates, im getting loads of problems. Apps crashing, spaces looks all wrong - see pic. I can no longer move windows between spaces when in spaces view and instead HAVE to drage them to the sides of the screen. itunes now doesnt quit normally -and the apple remote comands will only actualy occur in between songs, e.g. i press volume up three times - it wont happen till the end of the song.
Anyone else having similar problems or have any fixes?

LOL, at me replying to another one of your threads, BUT, I'm having a problem on my macbook (leopard) since I did the last update Saturday night. Although, I haven't noticed any of the issues you mentioned with spaces ( I don't use spaces), but what I did notice about itunes is that it doesn't stay in the dock, and neither does safari for that matter..but what really is making me ANGRY is that quicken and microsoft office not longer works. When I try to open up either one of those programs (which by the way are the only ones I have installed on my macbook) it says ".....quit unexpectedly". When I called a tech, they said there isn't much they can do because they are NOT their programs...to try an archive/install....but geesh, so what if it isn't one of your programs, it one of YOUR macs that can no longer read it. What a coincidence. I haven't tried the archive/install yet, I was going through these boards to see if anyone else has this problem. I'm so upset.
