Becoming A Developer

Hi all,
Ive had a quick look through here and the main apple site itself to see what i can find out but any direct help here would be appreciated.
So i have xcode and am starting to look at becoming a developer. I wanted to test a few things on my iPhone itself but from xcode needed a dev address. I hear people saying theres a free version and a $99 a year version, if i could have some clarfication on this that would be great.
Everytime i go onto become a dev on the Apple UK site, it takes me straight to the US site. Will this be ok if i reg with the US site to use on my UK devices ( assuming they are different )
If thats ok to do then great. But what will i get as a bonus when signing up as a free dev, will I be able to use xcode to test my apps on a real iphone? Or am i going to have to pay for this privaledge?
Anything would be a great help!

The free developer account is a leftover from a long time ago when the "paid" account was $499 and the "student" account was $199. About the only thing the free account has ever provided is access to the bug reporting system and additional downloads of things like old versions of Xcode.
The new, paid accounts provide the developer forums, two developer support tickets, access to WWDC, and access to the App Stores. In other words - much more for much less.

The only differences between countries is with the App Store via iTunes Connect. The Developer site is country agnostic.

You have to pay to run on a live device.

  • I am 15, can I become a developer

    I am 15 years old.
    Can I become a developer ?

There is a special clause for developers under 18. Your parent or guardian can create a developer account and you can use that account to sell software. All legal contract, including the name on the account will be that of your parent or guardian. As far as Apple is concerned, you (almost) don't exist. I suggest having your parent or guardian create a new Apple ID for all developer activity to keep it separate from their own Apple ID. Then, when you turn 18, you can get your own account and transfer your apps.

  • How can i become a developer?

I've heard alot about the C language and Objective-C.
do i have to learn this to become a developer? And how can i?

    Turning 18.
In the meantime, learn Xcode, Objective-C and the Mac OS X/iOS frameworks.

  • How do I become a developer and will I need Mac or something

How can I become a developer
And if I become a developer will I need a Mac or I can work from normal pc (windows software)

If you're serious about learning to develop then visit the developers forum and register.
If you just want an advance chance to get iOS5, I would advice you not to do this. The purpose of these betas is not rough edging, but for developers to se how the new OS affects their apps and how to update them to work. There is a good chance many of your apps will not work and that your iPad might brick.

  • Way to become oracle developer

    Hi,
I am a MCA garduate interested in oracle development. plz suggest to how to learn oracle step by step to become good oracle developer as I am good in SQl basics.
    Regards

    Hi,
I can tell you from my experience that if you're genuinely interested in this field, then start applying at places that have entry level positions for people with a desire to learn and grow. Then, on-the-job experience will get you where you want to go. Just think: you will be getting paid to learn (and produce a good working product of course).
As you grow your knowledge and experience, then more opportunities will open up. For your first gig, without experience, it's going to be tough to make a case that you have any kind of specialized knowledge. So start at the entry level and just get your feet wet. There will be plenty of time for on the job learning. Most companies hiring entry level developers are more interested in your aptitude than your experience and/or specific knowledge.

  • Want to become J2EE developer

    Hi,
I am a Sun certified java programmer. In my current job i am using core java/c++ but no J2EE stuff. I have around 6 years of experience in telecom industry . It is my keen desire to become a J2EE developer but i don't understand which direction i should choose JSP/Servlet or EJB. I have no web programming experience. Can anybody help me to find the right direction to achieve my goal ? I will highly appreciate your help and support.
    Thanks & Regards
    Upabbi

Servlet/JSP/JDBC is by far the most common and
    versatile.
EJB is very specialized and limited, and to the best
of my knowledge only used in big investment banks and
a handful of huge companies. ('A handful' is here
    comparatively speaking, not literally.)
Not really. Most successful EJB projects are executed in those sectors (and in companies supplying them).
Many more companies though try and fail, often repeatedly.
Everyone wants to be "enterprise", and to many that means EJB (though it might be declining).
There's a massive misunderstanding here that EJB is all there is to J2EE, that everything else is not J2EE at all.
EJB is Enterprise, after all. Enterprise normally
means that it solves problems that only exist if you
have more than a million employees and 500
incompatible IT platforms. Nope. Anything corporate can be called "enterprise". In fact most really large companies have pretty well consolidated their IT efforts on a few platforms by now, with at most some others hanging on for dear life as legacy applications inherited from companies they acquired over time that haven't been replaced (yet).
Enterprise also means that it's massively expensive,
and noone outside the enterprise would touch it with
    a 10-foot poker.
We're a rather small company (70ish people here, some 350 worldwide).
We're running several hundred servers, dozens of them with heavy EJB clusters.
On the upside, EJBs may pay better (more specialized
and big companies have tons of money). On the
downside, EJB skill is fairly useless anywhere else,
and on its own it's too narrow to base a career on.
    IMHO.
It does however give you a foot in the door in a lot of places, even if you may end up burrying EJB projects and redoing them using other things :)
I would suggest that you first find the kind of job
you want, and then check what skills you need to get
    one of those.
    That IS good advise.
But webapp development is a fairly general skill that
can come in handy in many situations. I would suggest
starting with servlet/JSP/JDBC (or Ruby on Rails :)
whether or not you go for the EJB part.Certainly, though specialising on it in this environment of offshoring is dangerous precisely because it is a general skill and can thus be easily moved to say Bangladesh or Bulgaria.

  • Charge to become a developer?

Hi, this may sound like a stupid question but I downloaded XCode to practice programming. When I wanted to add development tools it took me to the Developer website and told me to register. Now I'm freaking out that they might have charged me for that because I Googled it and I found several pages that said it costs $99! I never saw anything about paying!. Do they charge and if so how can I "unregister"?

Did you give them your credit card number? If you didn't there is no way for them to charge you, no?
You only need to pay the $99 to run programs on real iOS devices - and get access to better support.

  • Becoming a Developer for a career.

So I downloaded Xcode 4 to have a little play around and realised that I don't know what on earth to do.
I took an A-Level in computing and I'm learning the basics of coding, algorithms, functions etc. but I've recently wanted to make Computing a career. Developing apps, especially OS X and iOS.
What is the best approach, what do I need to learn, programming languages, etc.
    Recommended books, videos, DVD's...
and any handy tips for an aspiring Developer.
    Thank You.

Depending on what type of applications you want to develop, and how much time you are willing to put into learning, roads diverge in this wood.
Objective-C is arguably the most difficult path for a beginner. An interpreted language, like Python, or even Java, offer a lot of power without so steep of an initial learning curve. Its the reason that most beginning computer courses are taught in Java now instead of C/C++ as in years past.
Garbage collection. This is one of the things that interpreted languages do that compiled languages, like Objective-C, do not. It means not having to worry about memory leaks and many other considerations right at the beginning of your programming career.
In any case, the books out nowadays are so good that you can buy a good book and be programming in that language within days. Between today's excellent instructive books and the developer communities, this is the best time ever to learn to code.
    Good luck!

  • If I become an iOS Developer do I get the OS X Developer Preview as well?

I went to the Apple Store and was inquiring about becoming a developer so as to gain access to Yosemite before its public release and was told by a specialist that if I spent $99 and became an iOS developer I could also gain access to the Beta of Yosemite, thus having the best of both worlds (i.e. Handoff, Continuity etc.). I was wondering if anyone who is an iOS developer could provide some info about this whether its true or not because truth be told I'm inclined to become an OS X Developer but if I can have access to both iOS 8 and Yosemite I would opt for the iOS developer option.
    Thanks!

No. You have to pay $99 U.S.A. Dollars each for IOS and Mac (for U.S.A. Developers, prices may vary for Overseas). Safari is Free, however, but you must still sign the NDA for all three programs if you decide to enroll in all three. You may also have to re-agree to the Terms of Use from time to time whenever Apple decides to Amend their Terms of Use which can occur at any time Apple wants to amend the NDA.
