Beep on the hour?

hehe, yeah. I know it's not my date and time prefs. I have no reminders that I know of. The Mac Pro is only a week old, so nothing is wrong.
How do I stop this "beep" sound? Sound like one of the alerts, but it happens to be the worse one, and it scares the crap out of me. The first few times, I spent an hour around the house trying to find a carbon monoxide leak!
Anyone help? I'm not as dumb as I sound, but I can't think of any reason why this new Mac is set to beep every hour by default.

I have this exact problem! I would add the following:
1: Mine is not on the hour but is mostly on about a 75(ish) minute interval.
2: It occurs only on the internal speaker and not the external speakers I use (USB speakers from an old cube)
3: It is not any of the sound effects is system prefs > sounds
4: I repartitioned and reinstalled Mac OS and on a Virgin Mac OS install it still occurs.
5: I can not get to the Apple Hardware Test via boot time snag keys, I have tried all permutations of the snag keys and none work and I am using a USB Apple keyboard (which came with the Mac Pro)
6: It is not the boot-time RAM error warning and I reseated my RAM anyway.
And 7: It's making me crazy!

  • IBook beeping on the hour

My cat fell asleep on my iBook when it was open, and besides renaming a folder to ////////////, ever since, my iBook beeps at the top of every hour.
It's just a short, quite loud, err beep: it's none of the Apple alert sounds.
It could be a coincidence about the cat...
I can't find anything to turn it off. And it's slowly driving me crazy.
    Any help gratefully received.
    Cheers,
    Mike
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

there you can uncheck the alert.
hmm the only alert I see there is the 'Announce the time:' checkbox. It's unchecked, and when I check it, I get a voice and a beep!
    Thanks tho... still puzzled.

new iPhone 5c keeps beeping and the screen just stays black?

Plug your device into the original charger & block in a wall outlet and leave it alone for a couple of hours. Then, while it is still plugged in, restart it by holding down the home button and the power button for 10-15 seconds until you see the Apple, then let go.

  • Stop the beeps with the 7200 rpm hard disks of the MacBook Pro

Stop the beeps with the 7200 rpm hard disks of the MacBook Pro
from HardMac.com by [email protected] (Lionel)
At the beginning of week, we have spoken about the unpleasant beeps made by the 7200 rpm hard drive proposed as an option in the MacBook Pro 2009.
A solution has been found, the details are given by Rémy.
These tedious beeps occur when the disc is inactive and are caused by a system
to reposition the play-back head carried out in a repetitive way.
In addition to the beeps of the hard drive, Mac OS X displays the pretty multicoloured wheel during some seconds while waiting for hard drive to finish these loadings and unloadings of the play-back head.
The solution comes with a utility of the name hdapm (for Hard Disk Advanced Power Management) which makes it possible to change the level of energy management (APM) of the hard drive.
Hdapm can be downloaded from : http://mckinlay.net.nz/hdapm; hdapm being a command line utility, it is thus necessary to use the Terminal (which is in /Applications/Utilitaires).
After copying hdapm into your user file, the command to enter is:
    sudo ~/hdapm disk0 max
disk0 corresponds to the disc to regulate knowing that hdapm should function with any ATA disk supporting APM
max is the level of APM which is a number ranging between 1 and 254 included
the word following are preset and can used in the place a number for the level of APM
max (maximum performance) is the parameter to use to eliminate the “beeps”.
    min (maximum economy of energy)
default (returns to the default setting)
The level of APM is a temporary adjustment in the firmware of the hard drive, this adjustment is lost when the disk is powered down and it is thus necessary to redo this at each for each start up.
To install hdapm so it is launched at each start-up, it is necessary to copy hdapm to the hard drive (/usr/local/bin is advised) and to copy the file hdapm.plist in /Library/LaunchDaemons.
It will be can be necessary to you to edit hdapm.plist with the desired parameters; the default settings are: the repertory where hdapm is /usr/local/bin, the hard drive is regulated on the first (disk0) and the level of APM is the maximum.
You can simply copy the file hdapm into /usr/local/bin file if you want to avoid modifying Plist.
Simplest way to reach these files is to use the Go/go to the file and to copy/paste this address before validating.

Yeah, I don't buy that. I spoke with Seagate a couple of months ago when I was looking for the impossible to find 500 GB 7200 RPM HD and asked them that very thing. They told me it would work fine, but I should disable SMS. Apple told me the same thing. I ultimately waited and got a non G-Force model, but Seagate told me it would work.
I also don't believe that they'd OEM the drive to Apple knowing it wouldn't work. That makes absolutely no sense. If Seagate knew the G-Force drive would not function properly in an Apple MacBook/MacBook Pro, and they OEM'd it to Apple for that purpose anyway, what does that say about Seagate?
I admit it's odd that the used the G-Force model given the presence of SMS, but apparently Seagate has prioritized the manufacturing of the G-Force drives and probably offered it to Apple.

  • ICal in Day view doesn't show hours, but Days for the hours?

Ok, so I have been trying to figure this out but I cannot find the answer. In iCal, I cannot change the hour of a new event. It only allows me to change the min. So I went into the Day view to try and move the events to the correct hours and all it shows is Midnight, Saturday over and over (where the hours should be) and then Noon and then Saturday over and over again. I have no idea why it does this and have searched through the settings and cannot figure it out. Can anyone help me?
I have posted a screen shot of my problem at
    http://public.me.com/dozierredraider
    Thank you

    DozierRedRaider,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
First of all try refreshing the com.apple.iCal.plist file. You will find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Quit iCal, drag the .plist file to your Desktop, log out/in or restart and check iCal for normal behavior.
If that is unsuccessful, open System Preferences...>Language & Text>Formats, and choose, or change the appropriate region. Then check/change the "Times" formats that you are using.

  • How to Play Sound on the Hour - not Voice

I miss the ability I had in Classic to play a sound on the hour and half hour. In OSX, it seems that only having a voice announce the time is an option - unless I'm missing something.
Does anyone know of a workaround? I hate the voice thing and would rather listen to a pleasant sound.
Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Install the recently released OS X version of Sounds4Fun (www.macupdate.com or www.versiontracker.com.) Once the premier OS 9 utility for assigning sounds to system actions including assigning sounds to the time (1/4, 1/2, 3/4, top.)
Also can assign sounds to dozens of other actions.

  • How to make the hours display in the payslip,

For one wagetype the hours are displayed in payslip, the country grouping is US. how to resolve this?
    Thanks
    Karthik

You mention that for "one wagetype the hours are displayed in payslip", implying that the (number of) hours are not displayed for the other WTs.
First, check in the RT if hours exist only for that WT or for all other WTs.
If hours exist only for that WT in RT, then you should check where in your Payroll Schema the hours are deleted from the other WTs (or where the hours are added for this WT), and make the appropriate corrections.
If the hours exist for all earnings WTs, then the problem should be in the Line Type that is used to display that WT in the Payslip/Remuneration Statement.  Use t-code pe51 to compare that WT with a similar one, and make the appropriate correction.

  • How can I get a date without the hour from sql server 2000 ?

    hellou!
I have a JTable, and one of it's columns has to show a date. This date i have to show is specified as datetime on the Sql Server 2000 database where I have to take the data.
the query of the dataset attached to the JTable is something like "select * from Table".
The problem is that the JTable column that displays the date shows the date and the hour, for example:
    7/10/04 0:00:00
and I need to show the date without the hour, only the 7/10/04. Can anyone tell me how to do that?
thank you very much! : )

The easiest way to format a date is with java.text.SimpleDateFormat. When creating it you pass a format string which can be used to parse or format date objects.
    SimpleDateFormat formater = new SimpleDateFormat( "MM/dd/yyyy" );
// Get date objects directly from sql
Date foundDate = result.getDate( 1 );  //where result is the ResultSet and 1 is the date column
String formatedDate = formater.format( foundDate );Now the JTable's table model can be adjusted to store a formated String instead of a Date. If for some reason it is required to store the value as a Date overload the table model to return the formated string when getValueAt is called.

  • Analog Clock Chime Challenge - not on the hour

I have a custom analog clock job. The following page will help you understand it:
    eleven-hour-clock(dot)com
Here is the author's mathematical description:
    >>
60 seconds per minute X 60 minutes per hour = 3600 seconds per hour
3600 seconds per hour X 12 hours on a clock = 43,200 seconds from ‘noon’ to ‘midnight’ on an analog clock
    ~
    43,200 seconds /11 waves = 3,927.2727 seconds per wave
3,927.2727 seconds per wave / 60 seconds per minute = ~ 65.454 minutes per wave
    ~
1 wave = the distance from one union of the hour, minute & second hands of an analog clock to another one of the ELEVEN unions of the three hands, around the clock.
    >>
So, from the first "union" at noon, the chime should ring every 65.454 minutes, in which the minute hand and hour hand are directly on top of each other.
Sound like fun? Would love some help. I have fair experience with actionscript, but this is a little over my head, and, yes, I'v got this in AS2 and would like to keep it there. Complete scripts would be great.
    Thanks!

    OK....!!!!!
just download the Excel file (*.xls) and try open with Word-MS. In the document search by the string that you have mentioned in the question. (Use Ctrl +F).
If you see something like "ABC bla bla ba & instead of  &amp ,  then you have to pass the data through the code I've mentioned.
You can get more details on encoding special characters UTF-8 in Google.com or Sun Websites etc.
You can also encode the & in hexadecimal format to get the desired output.
