Beep sound heard during startup

Am hearing a beep tone every 5 seconds when I startup my iMac computer. It is on macosx.
The last time I used it was when I was playing starcraftII and I shut down without removing the CD like I usually do. But this time when I startup the iMac does not boot up. I have tried resetting the SMC and it didn't work. I pressed down the mouse while startup and the CD didn't come out but I started to hear these beep tones, when I startup now. Thought it might be the memory card so removed them and tried starting up without them and then tried one by one and I still getting the beep tones, will I lose my hardisk as well if I keep rebooting too many times like this? How to get the CD out and startup the iMac properly?

Is it one of those beep patterns?

  • High-pitched beep/sound during sleep and shut down modes

I just wish to check whether is it normal that there's high pitched beep (not very loud but can be heard in a quiet room) which seems to be from the LED or AC Adapter during sleep mode. The beep sounds continuous when the computer has been shut down or in off mode while the main plug of where the ac adapter is connected to is still on. Is this normal? My computer works fine. Battery is charging fine. I just want check whether is this normal. It is has been like that ever since I bought my computer on March 2012.
HP Pavilion dm4-3005tx Entertainment Notebook PC

    Hello Huanwei,
It appears that you can hear a "high pitched beep" coming from the notebook while it's in sleep mode or even off, when the power adapter is plugged in and "on". I will try to help you with this.
Normally, this should not happen. Beeping from a computer may happen during start up a few times to indicate components enabling, but any constant beeping or being while the computer is off shouldn't happen.
Does this occur, if the AC adapter is not connected to the notebook when it is in sleep mode or off? Do you only notices this, in a specific location? (office, etc.)
I would suggest, depending on the setup of things. Taking the notebook with no AC to another location in the house. A quiet one, make sure your not near any other electronics (no watches or cell phones either) let the notebook sleep and see if you hear the beeping. If not, then power it off and test again. If no beeping, this is good and the notebook is fine.
Repeat that same test with the power adapter connected ( again no other electronics around you). Listen while it is "sleeping" and off to see if you can hear the beeping again.
If you do disconnect the AC from the notebook , but leave that connected to the wall and take the notebook out of that location, go back to see if you can hear beeps again. If you do it could be the AC adapter. If you don't then it could be an issue with that only when it's connected.
If there was no beeping when the AC was connected in this "testing location", then I would guess it is something else within the house that is beeping (we have seen that before). In which case you'd have nothing to worry about in regard to your notebook.
Let me know where the above leads.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.3.9)
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Three beeps at startup indicate 'no good banks', meaning the system can't access the RAM.
It may be that your RAM itself is bad, or that it has come unseated. It could also indicate a more serious motherboard fault which prevents the RAM being accessed, but that is unlikely.
If you have opened the mini in the past it may be that the best way to check is to do so again and ensure the RAM is properly seated by removing it and reinserting. If you replaced the original RAM and still have the original stick, try putting that back in. Also note that Macs are typically very sensitive to RAM incompatibilities, and there have been cases where systems fail as yours appears to have done for no reason other than that a RAM stick was marginal in compatibility.
If you upgraded the RAM yourself and bought the replacement stick from a source such as Crucial.com which permits unconditional exchanges, contact them and arrange to have the memory replaced.

  • My MacBook late 2008 10.7.5 making a beeping sound at startup

My Mac Book late 2008 10.7.5 is making a beeping sound at startup before the Apple chime.

    Hello,
If you haven't done anything to the MacBook liek add extra memory then try the following
    Resetting PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
Else try resetting SMC : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
It could be a memory problem, so try removing one memory each at a time to see if that stops the bleeping.
If that does resolve the bleeping, then your MacBook may need replacement memory modules.
    Best of luck

  • Startup sound heard continuously

    Hi All
    I have a Macbook Pro A1226 .
When I push the power key , the Startup sound heard continuously , but ther is no picture on the screen . help me to solve this problem.

I am having the same issue.
When I try to start my Macbook Pro, I get an endless loop (well at least 5 minutes before I give up and power it down) of the start up chime. It just keeps repeating over and over. THe screen stays black and never lights up. THe chime varies a slight bit, occasionally sounding like it cuts out half way before it finishes, but then a full chime will happen again.
I have tried the PRAM zap, Systems Management Controller reset (disconnect power and battery, hold down power button for 5 sec, reconnect to power and try again, as well as the Cmd-Option-Power hold down that is recommended for the newer Macbook Pros), tried safe start up (holding shift) even tried to boot in Target disk mode just to see if I could get info from the hard drive.
I have tried reseating the ram.
I have tried it with only battery (which does seem to be charging fine), with only ac power, with both.
Not sure if it anything but When it is plugged in and the battery is fully charged, the green light goes out on the charger and no light comes on.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Mac Pro makes clicking sounds during startup

Recently my Mac Pro began making clicking sounds during startup or upon waking from sleep mode. Usually there are six clicks lasting a total of about 3 seconds, and then the clicking stops. After that everything seems normal.
Since my computer didn't used to make these clicks, I suspect something could go very wrong in the near future. I don't know if these clicks are coming from the hard drive, the fan or, perhaps, relays.
    Can anyone help?

    Consilience wrote:
I moved both my hard drives to different slots
Do the drives themselves have relays in them or are there relays associated with each slot?
Hi, sorry for delay, an all nighter to re-assemble my case.
Interesting, just moving drives made a difference.
Possibly the jarring required to get them out & back in altered internal interference.
Or the drives connection made better contact. Tough call there.
The drives arms inside swing back & forth at blurring speed across the drive platter to read it.
Not sure how old the drives are, but like mine, they are about 3-4 years old, and I have a theory when they get to 5 years old, like me, I now start clicking going up stairs.
    * The hardware test that's part of your OS install disc should report if it sees an issue with the drive.
It's also highly recommended to use http://www.alsoft.com/diskwarrior/index.html
By chance do you monitor the temps inside?
There are a few temp programs that will show components and their temp & rpm of fans.
    I like http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/23049/smcfancontrol
This will let you bump up the fan speeds to where it made a huge difference when set at 1100 rpm.
At that speed, you just start to notice the fans, but it dropped my internal temps by 30 degrees. I had 174 degrees prior, which is not the best thing with large ram filled slots.
For reference, my temps now with smc', the hottest memory stays about 134 vs 174, and exhaust steady at 93, with ambient showing 82. I can live with that.
I occasionally run custom floor fan to move the air out of the room.
    Ceiling fan is also on.
    Back to drives"
You can also leave the case door off while running him.
The temps briefly add about 10 degrees max while I tested this.
Sit close while you have it on to pin point the clicks, but I still think it's the drive.
At first sign of clicking, rest hand at under side of drive to verify.
Drive 1 will not have that access.
Relays in theory do click, but in computers, they are micro small, I doubt one could hear them.
Were any changes made recently to park the drives?
    This is usually not recommended.
I may have forgot something to add, but you have enough for the moment.
Good Luck, and if the inside needs it, use bright flash light to inspect closely and blow out
    any excess dust.
The optical drive bay slides out easy, as do the RAM sleds.
Inspect power supply fan, and others for excess dust.
I just lay the case on it's side, and ribbon cable allows it to set the optical bay sled on the edge of case.
All connecting cables are removed from the outside of case prior.
Doubled up bed sheet works well on the floor, desk, table and protects from scratches.
I have airtank set at 30 psi from airbrush compressor to remove excess, and detailed with Q-tips dipped in alcohol. Including video card fan. Last nights mission.
    Later.

  • Frequent system freezing. Restart computer message, followed by beeps during startup

For the past few weeks I've been having repeated crashes on my MBpro 4.1, with OSX 10.6.8, fully updated. The system randomly freezes and I have to force a restart. Sometimes the system does not restart but gives a series of beeps remaing on black screen.  If I let it rest a while it then starts properly.
I did a complete reformat and fresh install with only the basic software I need but the problem has not been resolved.
I have already tried changing the memory modules, without solving the problem.
Any kind advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Do you continue to have problems if you boot into Safe Mode?

  • I get a beeping sound when trying to startup

I get a beeping sound with a grey screen when starting up.  It will not start up.

Beeping sound usually a RAM problem.  Try reseating the RAM or put back in factory RAM.

  • Long beeping sounds during iPhone 4s calls

Often when I am on calls longer than 5 minutes I hear a long beeping sound, almost like someone is pushing a button.  Does anyone why this is happening and how to fix it I have a 4s?

Is this with all calls when using a headset or just some?
If some perhaps there's a second call trying to get through & it's notifying you there's another call waiting or if it's a Bluetooth headset maybe it's telling that it requires charging.

  • MacBook beeps once during startup, then loads up normally.

I have had this problem for about five days already. My Macbook 5.1 (late 2008) boots up and makes one 3 second long beep sound, then it starts up normally after. It is very annoying, as I use it in uni and other public places, and it makes this sound. I have tried changing my ram to the old one 2 x 1gb, and back to 2 x 2gb, it didn't help. I have searched all websites for this answer, but didn't get any answers to this problem
Please help, as I am doing alot of work on it now, and if there is a problem with it, I really need to know it.

Yeah, that time they gave me a replacement MacBook Pro 13 inch, very good service. Now I have trouble with my new retina macbook pro, there are dead pixels on the screen.

  • Beeping sounds during iPhone calls when it's not touching my face

Anyone know how to resolve dial tone beeps that occur during phone calls? I am using a headset and it's not touching my face.

Is this with all calls when using a headset or just some?

  • Beep During startup on my Think Server TD230

I just powered on my new server and I notice when I turn it on I get a two slow beeps and two fast beeps. Is this normal? I just bought the server.

Hello there.  The server seems to be working as it should.  Normally, when a server is first launched, it will procure several beeps to acknowledge that certain components are being recognized.  Of course I cannot see your server first hand, but it should be fine and it is normal.  Now, if you are experiencing any errors or error messages, then you might being getting beeps for this reason.
Intel® Server Boards of the S5500 and S5520 family are designed to indicate USB readiness by a series of beep codes early during POST, just before video becomes available. These beeps mean that USB is powered and initialized, in order for USB devices such as keyboard and mouse to become operational.
If a USB device such as a pen drive or USB CD/DVD ROM drive is attached to any external USB port, a beep code means that the device is recognized, powered, and initialized. Each USB port will issue a beep once an external device is ready for use.
These beep codes do not signal any errors, they are by design to advise the user of USB readiness during POST and when attaching external devices.  Thanks and I hope that you were able to use this information.  Take care!
