Beeping instead of audio

I have an old imovie project and I imported the clip through the finder, into final cut 6.
when I click play on the left hand video window I hear Beeps instead of the audio
why is this and how do i fix it

The beeping means your audio is unrendered. Michael is probably right - iMovie uses .dv files a lot.
Just render the audio (in the Sequence menu). If you're going to be doing much editing with this though, you should transcode the file first as Michael said, to avoid re-rendering every time you make an edit.

Hello again, from me who am still a newbie.
I have some footage taken on a different camera from mine, in DV not HD fomat, PAL still, which was imported using iMovie 08 and which plays happily in that sw. In FCE when I play it in the viewer it's all fine. If I select a part, and put it on the timeline, and then play bthe timeline I get BEEP BEEP BEEP instead of hearing the people speaking, as I can in the viewer.
What am I doing wrong?
Secondly- if I may - once I can hear the voices and not the beeps, I need to rip out the soundtrack and convert it to mp3. What would be the best way to do this?

First I'd try rendering the audio. Sequence -> Render All -> Audio. But, if you're going to be working with the audio track, you should make the file match FCE's needs.
Now, that you ask, I don't think I've ever done this. I just did a quick test and this worked for me. De-link the audio and video tracks by clicking the small green chain icon on the right side of the timeline. It's just above the video tracks. Then single click the audio track you want to work one. From the File -> Export -> Quicktime movie. Name your file. Then open the file in Audacity and save it as a 48,000 Hz AIFF file. Back in FCE, import and place the audio track where you need it.
I did not try this, but I think it'll work if you have FCE version 3.5 and Soundtrack. From the file menu, export as a Soundtrack file. Make the changes in Soundtrack and the file should be automatically changed in FCE.

Final cut goes Beep... Beep ...Beep... instead of audio.

I am new to FC so please bare with me. Sometimes I have a problem with a sequence/audio in the timeline that may be to do with track assignment. What is going on exactly when you can hear loud BEEP...BEEP...BEEP instead of the regular audio. How can I get around this ??

You need to render the audio. Look on the menus at the top until you see the one with render on it. If you select render all this will render any audio or video that needs this doing. There are other uoptions on this menu as well. Unfortunately I am not in front of the mac right now so cannot explain in more detail!

Digital noise instead of audio from logic/garageband

I'm running Logic Pro 7.1.1 on a dual 2.5 G5 through a MOTU 896HD interface. I haven't updated anything recently and all of a suddenly instead of audio, I'm getting a high-pitched squeal, around 10k, slightly delayed. I've tried different sample rates, rebooting, even speaker calibration in sound preferences with the same results. iTunes playback still works fine. Anyone encounter this before? help?

Reset the unit. Haven't tried this myself, but someone told me:
You need to push the two rotary controllers while powering up. Keep pushing. Wait for a bit. (I think until the lights come on again).

IPod Beeps instead of Clicks

Just recently as I was using my ipod (10G w/Dock) it all of a sudden started making high pitched beeps instead of the normal clicks when I'd press any of the buttons. The functionality is all funky now and it doesn't go to sleep so the battery runs out if it's not docked. I have tried reseting, updating, and restoring but to no avail. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I am not too sure, but it could be the time for the battery replacement, normally, the battery need to be replaced around 18-24 months

The audio requires rendering.
Audio for FCE should be aiff format @48 kHz.
FCE can also use 32 kHz if the audio from a camera is 12 bit.

Weird beeping sound with audio

I am editing a movie for a class in college. I uploaded my audio which is an mp3 file and it play fine when I play it in the first viewer window, but when I play it in the play back window instead of sound its a weird loud beeping noise. if I take the slider and move it forward or back on the timeline it will play the music faster or slower...but if I push play it still has the sound...what's going on and how can I stop it! ASAP!!!!!

Hi - Click on the audio clip in the timeline to select it and type Command-R.
This will render the audio to match the sequence setting.
If you move or edit the audio track, you might have to render it again.

My newly transferred songs from my external hard drive to my ipod read as "Other" instead of "Audio" files

Okay, i need help bad.
Here's the issue. This is my 2nd iPod classic. My first one, which worked beautifully for several years, died. the drive went bad. A sales associate at the Apple Store said it just crapped out (she didn't use those exact words) and my options were to send it out for a new 80G to replace the bad one at $120, or buy a new one, which yielded only one size and one choice for the classic ipod, the 160G. So i sucked it up and bought the 160G. I wanted the extra storage space anyway.
Came home, hooked it up, and new ipod required a newer version of itunes to mount and manage mp3's. it's not iTunes 10, required for sync with iPhone, but newer than what i currently had at hook up, which was some version of 8 or 9. it's now version 9.2.1, to be exact. After installation was complete, iPod mounted and worked with new version of iTunes just fine. Just recently, I connected my external hard drive to my laptop to transfer music i had backed up from my old classic and iTunes. The transfer seemed to work fine, but now with my pod still connected, the newly transfered audio mp3 files are not in my library. The are stored as "Other" under the iPod Summary tab, NOT AUDIO. so i cannot listen to those 14,000 or so songs and albums i just transfered. This is completely frustrating. Can anyone help?? Thanks. How do i convert these to Audio Mp3 files instead of "other" so i can listen and manage in my library, and so they show in the artists menu?? I have "Manually manage songs" checked in the Summary tab. I think it's storing or acting as an external hard drive. Someone help, i'm really ****** off right now. I spent a lot of time d*cking around transferring songs i can't even listen to or make playlists from now. Thanks a lot!

You maybe right, you transfer your 14k songs to your iPod under disk mode, so it don't appear as Audio.
To load your songs into Ipod Audio section, your must load them via iTunes, either Sync or Manually Manage your library, any other way, it just uses up space in the iPod Harddisk, and wont be on your iPod music menu.
So
1. Import your 14K songs into the iTunes library first. (read the iTunes help if you need instructions)
2. You can either Manually manage selected songs from the library or Sync all.
You can delete the songs in the Other section, by going into diskmode, use Finder and delete the 14K songs.

Whining sound instead of audio

I am editing my news program. I am using Adobe Premiere Elements 12. I have applied the green screen effect and split the clip in two places. I applied the time stretch at 50% in two of the clips so it looks like my newscasters are in zero gravity. Unfortunately, when I exported the video using Windows Media, I get a high whining sound for the audio instead of speech. I am using a windows 8 computer. This whining sound has happened before when I try to use a video as the background of the green screen.

After you applied the Time Stretch and played back the Timeline content in the Edit area monitor, did the sound present as whining?
When you applied Time Stretch, was it to a video clip which had audio linked to it?
If so, did you try to minimize the sound distortion created by the Time Stretch by placing a check mark next to "Maintain Audio Pitch".
Please give more details on the audio situation.
Also what was the format of your Timeline video? XviD.avi or other?

When typing in a search box, I can't go back and retype a mistaken letter. I get a beep instead. How can I fix this problem?

I am not very technical when it comes to computers. I'm having a problem with Firefox that when I type in a search field or box blank of any kind, sometimes I want to go back inside it and change something before I hit return. But once I've typed it, I can't go back to change anything. I hear an annoying beep each time I press a key. If I go elsewhere on the page and click on another search field window and then go back to the original field to try to type, sometimes I can, but only if I backspace from the end of what I wrote backwards to the area I wanted to change. It is extremely annoying, and I am frustrated with Firefox. My family doesn't have this problem on their computers with Firefox, only me. I don't even know how to uninstall the Firefox add-ons that could have caused this problem. I really need a step-by-step direction how to fix this problem, if you could guide me. Thank you for your help. It just happened again. I wanted to modify something I typed, and I got that beep again. Help!

Just Static Instead of Audio When Recording Videos

Just updated to 4.1 and no dice. Whenever I record videos it does not record audio as well, just static. When I first had the phone it worked fine. I've read other forum posts about it and not found anything useful to attempt. Fairly annoyed that I spend $200 and have to put up with crap like this. I'm taking it to an Apple repair place today to see what they can tell me. Hopefully it won't be that, "It just works," because quite apparently it does not.

I use a PC for syncing, not sure what you mean by create a new user. I took it to the local Apple Authorized Dealer/Repair place yesterday (the nearest Apple store to me is in Orlando, about an hour's drive) and they informed me that I would most likely have to A: Send it back, B: Take it back to Apple and get a new phone.
I'm fairly certain it is a software issue though, just from my experience in audio technology. The more I listen to it, the more I realize it's actually hiss and not static. Something like you'd get if your preamp was turned way down on a mic, but your main's were at 100%. You get all that low-end hiss and crap that's normal covered up by the audio, and the audio itself is very faint. It seems like it also might have something to do with the bluetooth setup too.
I'm still fairly surprised that this issue is not being addressed by Apple directly. With as many PR disasters as they've had with this phone you'd think they would try and head something like this off at the pass. Oh well...

Why is my iMac beeping instead of starting?

Depending on which model iMac you have and the configuration of the memory currently installed, you may be able to remove a couple of the DIMM's and then swap the positions of the remaining DIMM's to isolate a possibly bad or incorrectly spec'ed DIMM. I suggest doing the following:
1) Refer to iMac: How to remove or install memory to find out how to properly remove the DIMM's and the supported memory configurations for your particular model.
2) Verify that the DIMM's installed are compatible with your system. Each name brand DIMM should have some sort of label providing the specs. Compare the information to the information found in the iMac: Memory specifications and upgrades article.
3) If the memory meets the specifications listed in the document listed above, then try swapping the DIMM's. If you have four DIMM's installed, take out two of the DIMM's and insert the remaining two in the correct slots. While the DIMM's are out check the gold fingers on each one to make sure they are nice and clean. Each system may have different requirements about whether particular slots need to be populated in order for the system to complete the power on self test. If you provide more specific information about your iMac we can provide more detailed assistance.

ITunes categorises my podcast as 'video podcast' instead of 'audio podcast'

I'm new to this!
When I started, I had 'select any media file' ticked on my Feedburner preferences in 'create podcast enclosures from links to'. iTunes took this and added a random video I had uploaded ages ago (as well as the audio podcasts I wanted up) and put me into the video podcasts category. Once I sorted it out, I changed my preferences to read 'audio files only', and pinged etc.
iTunes has now updated everything, however the category remains stuck on video podcasting! I can't figure out how to change this. Is there something in the XML file? I've looked all through it and can't see anything I should change!
Or is it just that iTunes will take a while to update and reflect the changes?

Pips for sound instead of audio when playing sequence in Canvas window?

Am new to Final Cut Pro. I'm using FCP 3 on a G5 10.4.11. When I drag the scrubber bar along timeline I can hear the audio track but when I click the play icon under the canvas window I only get pips as the sound track. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Choose one:
You have more audio tracks than can be played on the system in real time.
+Increase the number of real time audio tracks in Final Cut Pro > User Preferences > General or lower the playback quality+.
The audio sampling rate does not match that of the Sequence settings.
+Digital audio for video always uses a sampling rate of 48kHz. Resample in QuickTime Pro, Compressor or Soundtrack.+
You have a multiplexed file. This means that the audio is embedded in the video -FCP expects discreet (separate) tracks. As Pat pointed out above, .DV stream files as used in iMovie are one example of this type of file.
+Use FCP to capture, not iMovie or transcode to a suitable QuickTime .mov file that uses the appropriate codec for your Sequence.+
You could also just render the audio tracks but bear in mind that you will have to render again if something in the Timeline changes.

Roger "Beep" tone after audio file

I have a question; I have received VO files that have been recorded on Audition 5.5 & 6 and they have a "roger beep" (may be the best way to describe it) between each "take" Its used as an indication to separate or end a recording of that script before going onto another. It is in fact a double beep beep similar to a walkie talkie when releasing the send/transmit button. I have Googled the effect but only Protools seems to have a plug in for this... Can you assist in making me wiser?

Audition is perfectly capable of making all sorts of beeps and tones on its own - although I think you may have to manufacture a short file of the one you want. You will then be able to insert this as many times as you want in a multitrack session. Chances are that whoever sent you the files did exactly that (except that this would have come from Audition 6, as 5.5 didn't have the tone generator put back in it).
The way to do this is with Effects>Generate>Tones. If you generate 1 second of a suitable tone, you can select the segment from 0.15 seconds to 0.5 seconds, and then go to Effects>Silence and silence that section. Then select the tone from 0.65 seconds to the end of the file, and similarly silence that. Play the result and it goes 'beep - beep'. Save the result, and you have a roger beep file that you can interpose wherever you like. If you don't like my timings feel free to use whatever timings you like. As for the tone itself, stick with sine waves and don't run them at more than -3dB. Frequencies suitable are probably between 440 and 1000Hz.
