BEEPING SOUND - SHOULD I WORRY?

Hello! I have Toshiba Satellite A215-S4807 Laptop and occasionally I hear either a SHORT beep or a SHORT+LONGISH BEEP; just tonight I heard a short beep and felt a vibration right where my hand was resting beside the touch pad. Should I be worried? Do I need to get a technician check it out as I am a student and I would not want it to fail on me while I'm doing my assignments, etc.
Please advise me ASAP!! Thanks!

  • Pause before boot sound, should I worry?

Just yesterday I started noticing that whenever I power up my MacBook Pro it's taking around 15-20 seconds between the time I press the power button and when I hear the Apple bootup sound. During this time the screen is blank and I hear none of the usual startup noises. This only happens when cold booting, not when waking up from sleep. Should I be worried?

Thanks. I guess what's bugging me is that this only seemed to show up in the last couple of days. Normally (meaning before now) the boot sound was almost instantaneous after I pressed the power button. But perhaps I'm just a little gunshy after reading all the problems other people have had with their MBPs. So far I've not had any (other than the fact that it's hot, but CoreDuoTemp tells me it's not to the point where I have to worry about damaging the processor).

  • High-pitched beep/sound during sleep and shut down modes

I just wish to check whether is it normal that there's high pitched beep (not very loud but can be heard in a quiet room) which seems to be from the LED or AC Adapter during sleep mode. The beep sounds continuous when the computer has been shut down or in off mode while the main plug of where the ac adapter is connected to is still on. Is this normal? My computer works fine. Battery is charging fine. I just want check whether is this normal. It is has been like that ever since I bought my computer on March 2012.
HP Pavilion dm4-3005tx Entertainment Notebook PC

    Hello Huanwei,
It appears that you can hear a "high pitched beep" coming from the notebook while it's in sleep mode or even off, when the power adapter is plugged in and "on". I will try to help you with this.
Normally, this should not happen. Beeping from a computer may happen during start up a few times to indicate components enabling, but any constant beeping or being while the computer is off shouldn't happen.
Does this occur, if the AC adapter is not connected to the notebook when it is in sleep mode or off? Do you only notices this, in a specific location? (office, etc.)
I would suggest, depending on the setup of things. Taking the notebook with no AC to another location in the house. A quiet one, make sure your not near any other electronics (no watches or cell phones either) let the notebook sleep and see if you hear the beeping. If not, then power it off and test again. If no beeping, this is good and the notebook is fine.
Repeat that same test with the power adapter connected ( again no other electronics around you). Listen while it is "sleeping" and off to see if you can hear the beeping again.
If you do disconnect the AC from the notebook , but leave that connected to the wall and take the notebook out of that location, go back to see if you can hear beeps again. If you do it could be the AC adapter. If you don't then it could be an issue with that only when it's connected.
If there was no beeping when the AC was connected in this "testing location", then I would guess it is something else within the house that is beeping (we have seen that before). In which case you'd have nothing to worry about in regard to your notebook.
Let me know where the above leads.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • IPhoto 9 plus all photos in finder are making constant fast beep sounds, flashing & frozen.  What happened

Few days ago Mac Mail started making fast, loud, continuous beeping sounds while I was writing a long document. The Mail program started flashing, "vibrating," and froze. I had to force quit and lost that email (right - I should have saved it, but didn't).  I tried to re-create the document in Pages and the same thing happened.  Then I tried to recreate it in Word.  Same thing. (may sound nuts to just keep trying new programs, but this was an urgent document.  Figured I could get it done, then focus on fixing the problem)
When I finally got things working again by re-starting multiple times and using Disk Utility, I evenutally opened iPhoto. After working with that program for several hours, I tried to use "share, "which creates an email with a jpeg. The same beeping and flashing started again. I had to shut down the computer. Next day everything seemed OK.  No problems for 3 days.
Tonight I was working with several programs, all doing fine.  Then I opened iPhoto and it immediately started the fast beeping and wouldn't let me access any of my MANY photos. Had to force quit. So I tried to access photos I saved in Finder.  Every saved photo (I have hundreds in Finder) would beep and flash continuously when I clicked on it's icon, even without opening it.
I can't find anything online about this situation. Some articles and forums talk about 3 beeps having a certain meaning. That's not what this is. It's continuous loud rhythmic beeps, flashing and I can barely shut down the program when that's going on.
Background: right before this started, my HD was very full and giving me warnings, so I deleted numerous file.  It's possible I could have deleted something that should NOT have been deleted. I also started in PRAM mode.  If I deleted something, I don't know how to tell what's missing. Also, iPhoto is very full and gave me warnings not to add photos. My Mac is 5 years old and running pretty fast. I installed Mountain Lion several months ago.
Has anyone experienced this? Help!! I don't want to lose my photos!

Running with a very full HD is very, very bad.
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on. Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Then, frankly, telling us you deleted "numerous file" but don't know what you deleted, really means that we can't help.
It's very likely that your Library is damaged from being run on an overfull disk. But you'll need at least as muh disk space again for repair it.
So, you need to get an external HD or two, move some data off that machine to make room. You may also need to reinstall your OS as you're not sure what you have deleted. After you've got your Os working you can try fix iPhoto.

  • No beep sound and No signal

I tried to start my k450e, but there was no beep sound and no signal on my monitor. How can I fix this? I don't know what is the problem.... and should I visit the local warranty service providers??

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
I am assuming that the computer is showing some signs of life such as the fan spinning or lights illuminated.  If there isn't then check your power source.  Try plugging the computer in a different wall socket.
If the problem still continues and you are not comfortable working inside your computer or your warranty is still active then I would recommend you contact Lenovo Support for additional assistance in getting your computer repaired or visit a local area Authorized Lenovo Repair Center.

  • My mac book keep on beeping and make the beep sound 3 time (same goes to the light) and it won't start up. Help please.

My mac book keep on beeping and make the beep sound 3 time (same goes to the light) and it won't start up. What should i do?

If you recently installed new ram, make sure it is seated properly.
If that doesn't work try removing one stick at a time to see if one is dead or put original ram back in.

  • How to turn beep sound on phone keyboard/numbers off

How do i turn the beep noise off when dialing a number, ive never noticed it before and suddenly out of the blue it makes a beep sound when i dial a number.

  • Continious beeping sound when booting up Satellite L350-235

    Hi everyone,
I have an issue on one of our Toshiba's. it gives me now a Continious beeping sound when booting up the machine after giving in the bootpw.
If i remove the battery and plug it back in it boots normally. But After the next reboot the problem occurs again.
    Any idea?
    Wim Bolanger

    Hi WimB_1,
    > it gives me now a Continious beeping sound when booting up the machine
That means your hardware is malfunctioning and something must be repaired or exchanged.
So in my opinion you should contact an authorized service provider. The guys can check your notebook and repair it. If your notebook is under warranty, the repair is for free.
Here you can find a list of them:

  • Lacie 5big Thunderbolt 2 BEEPING SOUNDS!!

    - nMP (Late 2013) 3.5 GHz 6-Core, 16GB, AMD FirePro D500 3GB, OS X 10.10.1
    - Lacie 5Big Thunderbolt 2 10TB Raid 5 to 8TB (Direct connected to nMP on it's own bus.)
    - Updated to latest versions: Lacie Raid Manager, 5Big Firmware and Drivers (un-installed/re-installed multiple times)
Bought a 5Big in Oct of 2014 and it has been both flawless and flawed. Performance wise, it's on par. Fast and safe, just as advertised. Absolutely no issues from that standpoint what so ever.
    But......IT KEEPS BEEPING!!
I've reached a breaking point after 50+ interactions on a Lacie Support Ticket. After two refurbished replacement drives. And now on my third replacement that was a brand new drive.
So here's the scenario. I've used the drive like any other person would. I'm a video editor/shooter/photographer. Mainly Adobe Products and Office stuff. I'll be trucking along just fine editing, emailing what have you. I'll get up and go to lunch and when I come back, my computer is asleep. Ok, nothing strange here, wake it up by pressing the space bar. Computer wakes up, monitors come on, 5Big light blinks on the front that it's waking up, the light goes solid blue and then about 5 seconds after the computer comes to life... 5Big light blinks red and 2-3 loud BEEPS sound off, then goes back to solid blue light. (It's irrelevant but I work in a cube land where you can here a mouse ****. These beeps are LOUD, ANNOYING and OBTRUSIVE.)
Now it's not functioning, (for reasons I don't know, other than I installed the latest version) but when I could see the drive in the Lacie Raid Manager it was saying "Adapter 0 Defective fan 0 found". Every single time. And this event is a totally random from what I can tell. Sometimes I'll wake my computer up and no BEEPS happen. Then other times, there's the BEEPS.
The people helping me on the Support Ticket have been friendly and appeared to be insightful but unfortunately is hasn't help with the problem. My last interaction with them left me a little puzzled. I would think that after the second replacement drive I should have been put in touch with the "Advanced Technical Support Team". And why do I have to contact them?? They should read the ticket and get in touch with me???  See below. I haven't received anything after my last post...

The beeping never really went away but it just recently started happening more and more.... I saw that there was a firmware update since we had last talked. So I went ahead with that. Beeping still remains. And now I can't seem to get LRM to work. I open the app and it opens a webpage saying that "Local host cannot be found". I'm about ready to throw in the towel on this... Help please.

Thank you for the additional support information. At this point I would prefer to return the unit and get refunded my purchase price. After all of the tried resolutions I can't afford to spend any more time on this issue. I would really appreciate if we could work this out. Thank you.
I feel that I have been more than cordial and have devoted many hours to this issue. Copying data to new drives, packaging and shipping and troubleshooting. I can't find anything online about anyone else having this issue. I can't relate it to any other thing on my computer because it's so random. This has to be some kind of bug and I find it a bit ridiculous that they can't squash it by now.
Has anyone else experience this? I don't know what else to do if they won't take it back. Any and all suggestions appreciate since I've burnt out all of Lacie's options. Really wishing I wouldn't have made the decision to go with the Lacie instead of a G-Tech. Thanks in advance.

LaCie makes the Big5 not G-Tech, you bashed G-Tech in you last line.
As for service support, many hard drive manufacturer's use the ticket system as their way of tracking, thus to be asked to submit a ticket for a replacement drive is not unheard of.
Doing a simple search in google comes up with this document regarding how LaCie reports drive errors.  I think it will sound a lot like what you have experienced.  Granted it is not an official document nor is it specific to your particular drive, but it would make sense that all their drives would employ a similar error reporting system. http://datarecovery.com/rd/lacie-data-recovery/
You will not get a refund.  That is an absolute certainty.  Almost every hard drive manufacturer will merely replace the defective drive if it is under warranty.  Sounds like they have already been doing that.  At this juncture I'd either get a replacement drive (since you're not going to get your money back) or just get a different drive altogether (forget this headache and just move on).

  • Soft beep sound

I occassionally hear a very soft single beep sound on my new iMac.  It does not seem to be associated with any particular activity.  Is this anything for me to worry about or get checked out?

    Hi Marcia,
Tough to tell really, but if you can't find the cause I'd have it checked out, some hard drives have a beep when having trouble.

  • HP PROBOOK 4530S KEYBOARD AND BEEPING SOUND ISSUES

Hello guys, I'm in desperate need of your expertise. I promised my friend I'd fix her laptop , she had wireless issues and wanted me to re-install win 7 ultimate x64 on her laptop. Before installing there was no issues with her keyboard or whatsoever. After installing a fresh copy the computer started to exhibit some problems for your information I hadn't even started to install drivers. just turned on the computer and saw that windows key and alt key next to it wasn't working and computer will make stupid beeping sound while loging in to windows like a key's stuck and even eject the dvd drive occasionally. Sometimes it will become unresponsive while bipping, i need to hit random keys to fix it. I've searched forums and all over ppl saying unplug the battery and ac wait some. done that no fix. Uninstall Hp power assistant program it wasn't even installed but i installed it tried and again didn't work then i uninstalled it to see it fixed anything again no fix. there were suggestions about synapse drivers re-installing them etc. still no fix. manually deleteing drivers from computer manager still no fix. I'm so ashamed I took her computer to fix but broke something else instead. please guys I need help asap!

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59001-59500/sp59291.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52001-52500/sp52145.exe
When the reinstallation has completed, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' ( or Speakers/HP ) once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • Lenovo L420 THINKPAD starts with a constant long beeping sound for atleast 1 min.

From few days my laptop starts with a long beeping sound for atleast more than 1 min, then comes a boot order option. I have no idea whats wrong with it,last time when it happened i had to change my harddisk. Guys anyone with expert ideas please help me,and as fast possible.

Nope. Not using a dock at all. I have to mention tho', that the machine already visited an authorized service. The motherboard was replaced, because it didn't recognise the power brick and refused to charge the laptop.
I'm guessing they didn't put it back together properly. Since I posted I checked the cpu / gpu temps and the cpu temps rise to 80-90 C just when I do a simple operation like delete a larger folder. I tried to turn on bluetooth to copy some stuff from my phone yesterday and for some reason it acted like i pressed fn+f4.  Went to sleep. I pressed fn+f5 just for the record, but after a few times doing this, I found that no matter what fn combo I press it goes to sleep. I have to press the power button again to bring it back. Started playing piano on the rest of the keyboard and same thing. Going to sleep. The lcd went in off mode and disappeared from both the bios and device manager. I was back at square one again seeing my desktop only on the external monitor.
I suspect the tech guys who fixed it didn't put something back right + the fact that the cpu is so hot lets me believe that the thermal paste was not applied right.
I still don't get why all the hardware self test pass. Maybe I should do a stress test? Or should I just send it back to service?

  • My macbook air was making the 3 beep sound

my macbook air was making the 3 beep sound, what does that mean?

When you boot and you get 3 beeps and the system won't start up, that means you have a memory problem. This Apple note describes the tone/blinking lights in more detail.  Since memory isn't user removable on the MBA's, you should take it into an Apple store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • Cube makes beep sounds

    Hello.
I have a problem with a G4 Cube. About 1 year ago it was upgraded with a Sonnet Encore/ST G4 upgrade card and with a bigger hd.
When booting it makes a beep sound and this sound keeps appearing every 1 or 2 minutes. I already tried switching the Ram, but this didn't help.
Beside this sound, it fails to boot from HD, CD or DVD. From time to time it seems to be able to pass the boot partition selection, but some time later it get's stuck with a grey screen showing a circle with a crossed out line in it - it looks similar to the Delete-Button in Apple Mail.
I also tried booting from within OF, but this didn't work. I already reseted NV-RAM and PMU.
I hope there is a way to get this mac running again. Thank you for you help!

    Hi,
Interesting to take a Cube apart, isn't it? Quite an engineering marvel, I think.
I don't mean to be repetitive but a 'charged' battery is not necessarily a 'good' battery. Unless it has been replaced recently, you should, at this point, replace it (Radioshack $14) - thereby removing that as problem.
The other real possibility is that the Hard Drive is making this sound, which is an indication of imminent failure. If you are able to backup/save important data, do it now. Replacing the HDD is common on older computers, they all fail eventually. Symptoms are noises, hard or intermittent starting and that symbol (circle with a crossout).
Those are the things I would replace, in that order.
There is also a place that describes 'how to' in detail for Cubes -> Cubeowner.com
Look in the FAQ's, lots of answers there.
    Regards,
    Dave
