Beeps on a KT4 Ultra

Ok this is the problem.
I have an KT4 Ultra with an AMD AthlonXP1700+ that emits a single beep.  ?(  Not continously but every 1/2 minute to a minute.
Sometimes it is quit for the whole day and than it starts again.  X(
There is nothing in the manual about beeps comming of this board.
The D-bracket is showing 4 green LED's so everything must be good.  :D
Further specs:
WindowsXP Pro
Norton NSW 2003
A lot of other software.  :D
Who knows what those beeps are for and where I can find more info on them??

  • Kt4 ultra- beep in games

I have a Kt4 Ultra and when I'm gaming on line I get a beep ever once in awhile. I get out of the game to check if it's getting hot and the temp is around 46 - 47 deg. It doesn't cause a problem with the game( slow down or lock up)  but I don't know the cause and I don't want it to get worse. Any ideas?

Is that a system temperature or a CPU temperature?   there shouldn't be any beeps if that is a system temp.   You sound like you're running PC Alert4.   Open the program, go down to the bottom left corner and click on "menu", then choose "settings".  Disable "Sound Warning".  That should take care of it.

  • Kt4 ultra problem

hello! i am having a problem with my kt4 ultra.
it originally booted, but once i hit delete to go into setup everything crashed. now when i boot, i get 2 beeps followed by another 8 beeps.
i've done alot of browsing through these forums and other sites, and heres what i find over and over:
    10 Short
     CMOS register
Check the motherboard and remove all expansion cards and replace one at a time.
i've done this and there is still a problem. am i doing the wrong diagnostics for the 2-8 beep combo?

i cleared cmos by removing battery and via the jumper method. no go.
the cpu/mobo/ram/video/ethernet were in another computer and worked previously. i sold them to my friend and had him buy a new case - i got everything setup the first time, booted, hit del to go into bios to make sure all settings were correct. it crashed and now does the 2-8 combo beep.
previously the mobo was in another case and we used different ram, but i still get the 2-8 beep combo using that same ram.

  • KT4 Ultra Scandisk reader POST hangup

This is a very popular card reader, has anyone else had this problem?
My Sandisk Compact Flash memory card reader causes the POST to hang after a cold boot (power cycle).  This does not happen on a warm boot.  I've tried every combination of USB options in the BIOS.  Also, it's plugged into the 2nd USB port, with my mouse in the 1st one.  I only have 2 USB ports enabled, and the motherboard connector for additional USB ports is unused.
Also note that the POST will hang weather or not a memory card in in the reader.  Also, as soon as I unplug the USB connection from the reader, the POST immediately continues.  When the POST hangs, there are no beeps heard.
    Thanks,
    Steve

It shouldn't be, since I'm using a very high-quality power supply, an Antec TruePower 330.  I also can't imagine a USB card reader to use enough power to cause problems.  It really doesn't use any juice anyway until you put a memory card in it.
Also, if I plug it in after Windows has loaded it will recognize it right away every time.  I think if I plug it in while Windows is booting it will freeze the boot process until I unplug it again.

  • KT4-Ultra-BSR Video problem

My PC was running fine. I have the KT4 Ultra BSR with XP2200+. I WAS running a TNT2/Riva 32MB GFX Card, and all was OK. I then bought a new graphics card - a 64MB Triplex Xabre-Pro (AGP 8X). I installed the card, but with it installed, the PC would not even attempt boot.
I took the card out and put my old TNT back in, and the PC worked OK.
I tried the jumper settings on the Triplex card, but it still failed to boot.
NOW the PC won't boot - even with the TNT card in, BUT it will boot WITHOUT a gfx card (although it gives the customary beeps).
What am I doing wrong here?

OK, well it IS a 3.3V and 5V PSU.
I have tried booting withou the NIC installed, and it made no odds.
    I have cleared the CMOS
I didn't remove the TNT drivers, but I don't feel like that's the problem since the machine does not power up.
I have tried a combined 300W 3.3V / 5V PSU that was in the machine before the gold PSU and it doesn't power on with that one in either.
On BOTH PSU's the machine WILL boot without either of my 2 graphics cards in it, but will not boot with either of them (whereas it did at least boot with the TNT before)

  • KT4 Ultra and PC3200 speed detect problem

    Hi all,
I am new to the forum, having just bought a KT4 Ultra for my new system.  It features the following components:
KT4 Ultra (sorry not sure of model number as I'm posting from work, but I checked for BIOS updates and there's only one which looks like a  USB2 compatibility fix)
    1 stick of 512Mb PC3200 memory
    AMD 2700XP+ (333FSB) CPU
ATI Radeon 9000 128Mb (this will do until DX9 cards available
Intel 100 Pro network card for my ADSL hub (my KT4 did not come with onboard network socket)
    350W power supply
    Win2K Pro SP3
I have two problems.  One is that the machine won't ever shutdown - it always reboots.  Having done a search of this forum, I will check the "Wake on LAN" settings in the BIOS as of course, plugged into an ADSL router, the LAN+WAN is constantly live... so I'm hoping that will be fixed later today....
But, the second problem is one of performance - in that with the initial auto detect settings, the BIOS found a 1500+ CPU and 400Mhz memory.  When I manually change the bus speed to 166, the CPU is recognised correctly as a 2700, but the memory dropped down to 333Mhz speed.  If I then disable the autodetect for the memory and manualyl set 400Mhz and CAS2 speed, I can't even get to the BIOS screen on bootup.  I get 4 or 5 short beeps, nothing on the display and need to short pins 2+3 of JCAT1 to reset to factory defaults.
Any idea how I can get my PC to boot with the correct speed memory (ie PC3200@400)?
    Thanks for any tips,
    Mike.

    Hi
I have the same problem when I set FSB to 200Mhz - DDR to 400Mhz and on boot screen i always see DDR 333.
I make a test and when I use 152Mhz FSB (or up) DDR Always is 333Mhz no maters than in Bios is saved DDR400.
    My system is
    t-bred 1700+ (133x10.5) fabrique unlocked
    MSK kt4 ultra (6590)
    bios v1.1
    256mb ddr 400 samsung c3
    msi g4200td 128mb

    I make some tests
    CPU on 200Mhz FSB x 8.5 multiplier, or 8 or 7.5 or 7 (1.575V)
    MEM always show DDR333
    WHY ?
It is possible to run FSB/MEM sincrhony on 200Mhz ?
I also make a mem tests with Sandra 2003 when
    I use 200Fsb x 8.5 and Bios DDR 333  and
    200Fsb x 8.5 and Bios DDR 400
the results is the same .
I'm sure that On boot Screen DDR information is right.
and always DDR is on 333 mhz wneh FSB is more than 152mhz No mather what you set in Bios ( 266 or 333 or 400)
    And other strange thing is:
with my previous locked XP 1600+ (10.5 x 133) I can run on 166FSB / MEM with this DDR (samsung) on max aggressive settings 2.5 2-5-2 1 Ultra
    now with my new CPU i can't run on 166FSB less tnah 3 3-6-3 2 Normal ?
    Thanks in advance.

  • KT4 Ultra PCI slot not recognising Audigy

Just wondering if you guys could help me out on this.
I have a KT4 Ultra mobo with two of the six PCI slots occupied by a generic/Conexant ADSL modem and the card part of an Audigy 2 Platinum eX. Everything was working fine until two days ago. Then, I opened my case to read the details of the PSU (for a proposed graphics card purchase that has now been canned due to said PSU being underpowered). However, when I booted up again neither the sound card nor the modem were recognised in Windows. I rebooted several times and the problem remained. So, I removed the case and moved the cards into different slots. I booted up again and there were 8 beeps, a pause, and then a further 2 beeps, but nothing appeared on the screen. I moved the cards around again and ensured that they were seated firmly in the slots. The PC then booted up but nothing appeared on the screen. I fixed this by pushing the graphics card (Radeon 9000 Pro) more firmly into its slot - presumably it had come unseated somehow when I had opened the case. This time, the PC booted up and, although the modem was recognised, it would not connect. I reinstalled the modem drivers and then it connected and functioned fine, however the sound card remains undetected. Should I try to reseat the card in its current slot or should I move it to a different slot? I just don't want to cause another problem by disturbing everything!
Apologies for my general newbieness: despite being a computer science student I have never built a PC myself and would consider myself a novice when it comes to the practical side of PC hardware. I guess I should take apart and rebuild the nine-year-old PC that is sitting in the garage!
    Thanks for your help,
    Nick

  • What the heck is up with my KT4 Ultra-sr

hey guys/girls, just wondering if somebody can help me with some issues i'm having with my Kt4 Ultra-sr that i just bought 3 days ago.
First problem i'm having is that i can only get the raid to detect 1 drive on IDE 3... i have tried various configurations and nothing works.. either one drive or the other but never both.
Second problem is that every once in a while i get a high pitch beep coming from my system....i don't know what it is..i used to have a Gigabyte 7dxr witrh a 1.4TB with 512 ddr and i didn't get any beeping.. i upgraded to the Kt4Ultra-sr with a xp1900+, one 512 stick of samsung ddr kt400... and i'm getting a beeping.. i thought at first it might be the power supply but i just bought it 3-4 months ago.. it is a SH Power 365 Watt dual fan. ?(
anybody out there able to help me?

    Hi,
There are plenty of reviews around on MSI's mobo as well as the too few others that are out there at the moment.
This issue is pretty well common to all the mobo manufacturers for the time being as it is a Serial ATA issue, not a mobo issue. Have a look at Tom's Hardware Guide or amdmb.com, interesting reading.
    Cheers,
    Dimal.

  • Kt4 Ultra wont post after XP SP1 update

Hello i have had this mobo for close to 6 mths and have had no problems untill a few weeks ago. It started to intermitingly boot to no video w/2fast beeps followed by 4-8 other beeps. D-Bracket 2 shows 1.2.3.green 4.red. RTC (Real Time Clock)  Just upgraded to Windows XP SP1 and now it will not boot unless cmos is cleared. But any attempt to change bios settings and reboot, gives the same problem. Even with default settings it just gives a white bar at bottom and hangs. I have taken it completly apart 4-5 times, and have tried different components (Video card, CD/DVD, PSU CPU Ram) from all my other pc's still same problem. Anyone have any ideas? Oh yeah Yes it is a legit copy of XP!!!

  • CMOS /GPNV Checksum bad in KT4 Ultra

HI! I looked out at some replies about this same problem but some of the post didn't adjust to my case or the answers doesn't help.
My tragic history is this. Three weeks ago my PC started to restart in the middle of work or windows would refuse to start (both Windows 98 and XP) always giving different reasons or none in the most cases. I decided to boot Linux and it gave me a Kernel panic so I thought that it could be a memory problem and it was. A Dim that a friend gave me was damaged in some way and it provocked the problem (I tested my PC without it and it never restarted). I decided to upgrade my memory to 1 Gb so I bought two new 512 dimms. It worked fine but recently my PC had suddenly been reestarting or simply stoping working giving sometimes a couple of beeps. Then sometimes it gaves me
"CMOS /GPNV Checksum bad". I have reseted the Bios to defult values and set the FSB in 133Mhz but in a couple of reboots it returns to it. At first I thought it was overheated (my room is pretty hot being the procesor temperature of 44° - 54°) but it never stops in the same number and it have done it very cold. One more thing: I never witnessed this but my brother said that one time it showed a message saying something about an error with the PCI Video Card. I'm open to suggestions and any help will be appreciated. Windows also gave me last time this:
    *** Stop: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xBF81F0F2, 0xED9027C8,0x00000000)

    My Pc profiles is:
    Motherboard : KT4 Ultra
    Processor: Athlon XP 2000+
    Video Card: Ati Radeon 9200
    Memory: 2 dims 512 Mb 333Mhz Kingston
    Bios: Ami bios V 1.3
PS: Sorry for the long post and the bad english

Thanks for the advice, I'm taking note of them to apply them each time that I take a look at my PC state. In fact, some time ago I got a problem with dust on the motherboard but it never came to my mind that I could be having a problem in the PSU because of the same reason, in fact I didn't use to clean dust from it just from the devices, thing that I'm changing right now.
About the PSU, it really is dead, it gave me some pretty sparks and died... good news is that I only lost the PSU and Sound Card and now I getting a better PSU to support all my devices and I'm looking for a better way to keep the system cooler. I'm going to use the day of tomorrow to do the fix and I hope that the problem will be solved.
But first I'll go looking for my cleaner ^_^
    Thank you all!

  • KT4 Ultra won't post.

KT4 Ultra won't give any output to monitor. Tried swapping video cards (AGP), monitors. Fans spin on the video card. Getting LED's on my NIC, so I have power in the PCI's. Hard drive and CD-ROM spins, and system fan comes on. Have yet to clear CMOS, but I'm doubting (also hoping)  that will fix it. No internal speaker, otherwise I'm sure I would be getting beeps. Never flashed BIOS, no recent updates to hardware/software within past two months. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
    XP 2000+
    GeForce4 MX440
    1X512 PC2100
    WinXP w/ SP1

Tried switching the video card already, and I also tried a different monitor as well. I've tested everything else out and I've narrowed it down to the mobo. PSU is fine, and I have since cleared the CMOS as well, but to no avail. I have never flashed the BIOS, and no changes were made in the BIOS before this happened (at least for two months, that's when I added my DVD-ROM.) CPU is fine and when it was up and running, it was around 53 C under a full load. Thanks for the suggestions, though.

  • KT4 Ultra 6590

    Hi!..
I got recently problem when i installed my new ddr-memory
    It's a: ddr twinmos pc3200 512Mb (400mhz FSB) with winbond.
Something weird happened when running c&c geneals.
An area on the screen lost the graphic suddenly and went like black, and then 1 sec. after the whole system freezed. music hanged to beep.
And the only thing to do was reset.
Before this 512 memory I had a twinmos pc2100 256 Mb (266mhz) and had never any problems at all....
I have heard from a friend that kt4 ultra 6590 has problems with running memories in 400Mhz ...It worked though when testing to play c&c generals directly in a 4 hours period after I installd the memory this night.
    But now something protested.  ?(
But everything else works excellent in windows and all (knock in wood ;P )......huh???
    Pleased for answers
    Help!
    /p

http://www.memtest86.com , that can tell you if the memory and the board are getting along.
Let it run for about an hour.
If the test doesn't find a problem you should check and see if lowering the memory to 333MHz helps.
It might also be the power supply not handling it all with the new RAM and crashing under the stress.
