Before a trip, my Mac Book Pro didn't shut down completely.

When I arrived and opened the Mac, the clock was wiped out and showed 1, 1, 2000. Now my email has incoming dated March 25, 2014. Yes, Mac Mail. What can I do?
I did my disk utility 3 times. Got some of the other functions corrected. The MacMail is still showing March 25, 2014. This has been for the last week.
Any ideas?

log in as your administrative user. In the Finder, press Command-Shift-U to bring up the Utility folder, and run Terminal there. In the Terminal window, enter the following command, pressing the Return key at the end of the line:
sudo date -n 030817102014
This command will ask for a password; give it your adminstrative user’s password. The password will not display as you type it in; this is a security measure.
After this command has been entered, open the Date & Time pane of System Preferences. If the padlock in the lower-left corner is locked, click on it to unlock it (and provide your administrative user’s password when requested). In the Time Zone tab, select your proper time zone. In the Date & Time tab, ensure that the “Set date and time automatically” checkbox is checked. You can then lock the padlock if desired. Your MacBook Pro should synchronize its date and time by itself.

    Hi Monroeeugene,
I'm not sure if you mean shutting down or going to sleep ... but this article will explain how to change your sleep settings so your downloads don't get interrupted.
    Mac Basics: Set your preferences
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2490
    Change your Mac's sleep settings
To conserve energy, all Macs have the ability to sleep. When you haven't used your Mac for a set amount of time, it enters a low-power mode until you wake it by pressing the keyboard, trackpad, or moving the mouse. Sleep doesn't turn off your computer; it merely puts it into an inactive state that consumes less power.
    Open System Preferences
    Choose View > Energy Saver.
Choose the Power Adapter or Battery tab. If you're using a desktop Mac (a Mac mini, iMac, or Mac Pro), the Power Adapter and Battery tabs do not appear.
Move the sliders for both the computer and display to change the times in which they go to sleep.
Select any other options you want, such as sleep and wake.
    Hope this helps ...

Hi, I am facing the same issue.
Did you able to solve your issue? Please advise.

  • Mac book pro mid 2009 shuts down after a few hour then will only boot after waiting and pressing power button numerous times. I am running mountain lion with most recent updates.

Mac book pro mid 2009 shuts down after a few hour of use and then is very difficult to reboot. Sometimes I have to wait hours, sometimes I have to repeatedly press the power button and then it will slowly start a little longer each press untill it completely boots. It has done this three times know.  Each time I was watching a video.

Try running the Apple Hardware Test - sounds as if you've hardware issues.

    Hi ohmghimire,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you're seeing unexpected behavior when using USB devices, try resetting the SMC on your MacBook Pro:
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
You can find the article with these steps here:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If you still see this behavior after resetting the SMC, or your computer won't turn on, try the steps in this article next:

  • Mac book pro rebooting then shutting down

Everytime I turn my MAC book pro 13 inch laptop on, it takes me to the white screen with the grey apple logo and then starts to reboot. I'm not entirely sure of it's rebooting but something is loading and the background colour is white if that helps.
Once it's about a quarter of the way through loading it starts showing a loading sign and the bar that's only a quarter of the way filled disappears. Then the screen turns black and it shuts down. Every time I turn my laptop on this happens. Please help.

    Megan.west,
if you have Mac OS X 10.7 or newer installed, you can try this: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, select the First Aid tab if it’s not already selected, then press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it get past the white screen and progress bar now?

  • Why Does Mac Book Pro fail to shut down?

I hope I am placing this in the correct place, as I have had enough difficulty finding where to "Post a Topic" Bought a new MacBook Pro with Leopard on 1/4/08. It fails to shut down, all I get is the spinning wheel (for want of a better word) until I am forced to press the shut off button. To date, In-store tech support has archived and re-installed, re-set the PRAM, and I don't know what's left! It seems that every time I do "something" i.e., backup, download photos, etc., even when I carefully close out the applications, and wait, the machine fails to shut down.
Does anyone out there have a solution to this problem? Is Apple working on this or are they taking the "it's you" attitude? Please advise and many thanks.

The "Genius Bar" at the Apple Store turned off the "Sync" to the iDisk. This has seemed to resolve the issue, however, MacBook Pro is not problem-free. Let me know if we "share" any other issues. Recently attempted to use Adobe Photoelements, by the way, after being told it was compatible with Leopard, IT IS NOT. So now I am going to try Aperture. Just thought I'd throw that in as "one of the other" issues! Thanks for responding to me!

  • My mac book pro does not shut down

I have a 13 inch MacBook Pro from around mid 2009 running Lion. When I try to shut down or restart my computer it goes to a white screen with a rotating circle in the middle bottom. It never completes the shut down from here. I have to use the power button to get the computer to fully shut down. Any thoughts?

I had the same problem randomly, also closing applications, and after a month of unsuccesful attempts to solve the problem I reverted back to Snow Leopard.

  • My mac book pro will not shot down or restart.

mac book pro 13 2011 dec. mac os x 10.7.4. my mac book pro will not shot down or restart, my mac is to slow to much loading. . when i open some apps loading when i will restart my mac book pro
loading. i can't restart the same problem  when i wil shut down my mac. need help

Mackeeper has been known to cause more problems than fix, all the posts here say don't use it and offer instuctions on how to remove it, which is not as easy as just dragging it to the trash.
I am willing to guess that some of the third party software could be the issue.
    Try a safe boot:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
Starting up in “safe mode” may help you diagnose problems you’re having with your Mac.
Note: To print these instructions, open the Help Viewer’s Action pop-up menu (looks like a gear) and choose Print.
Shut down your Mac and wait 10 seconds.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key.You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator (spinning gear).
To leave safe mode, restart the computer normally without holding down any keys during startup.
If you still have problems I would take it to Apple, there seems to be something strange going on here.
You search remove mackeeper on this forum, and get rid of it.

  • Do I have to uninstall itunes on my old PC before importing/populating my Mac Book Pro with My iPad stuff?

    Good Day,
My apologies for the cumbersome subject line/question. In a nut shell, I currently, have my itunes account on my spouses PC and on my iPad(3). I love the Mac stuff so much that recently, I purchased a Mac Book Pro so I could work from two Mac products. I want to take all the apps that I purchased, music, photos etcetera that is on my ipad and put it on to my Mac Book, but it is my understanding that I can only have my music and purchased apps or itunes account on two procducts that includes a PC. So my first question is do I have to, uninstall the itunes on my spouses PC before I can synch my iPad to the Mac, keeping in mind that the itunes account is in my name.
Second, do you have any tips (best practices, pitfalls to look out for) for the best way to populate my Mac Book Pro with my iPad Apps and Music, I would like the apps and music to be on both the mac book and the iPad. I realize the most obvious answer to my second question is synching the iPad with my Mac but before I do that I would be greatful for any insight and expertise in this area.
Thanks so much for you time.
    L.

No you do not have to uninstall iTunes on the PC in order to unsync with the Mac. And where you got that information about having iTunes content on two products only is beyond me. You can associate your Apple ID and iTunes content with up to 10 devices but no more than 5 devices can be computers.
If you could copy the iTunes library to your new Mac, that would be the ideal thing to do in order to transfer the iTunes library over. That would make the process pretty easy. You can also download most purchased content again as long as you use the same Apple ID and you could move content into your iTunes library that way.
You will need to authorize the new Mac for your iTunes content. Launch iTunes on the Mac and got to Store>authorize this computer.
There are many articles that will guide you through copying the iTunes library to the Mac and you can look through a bunch of them here.
    https://www.google.com/search?q=copy%20itunes%20library%20to%20new%20mac
If you need to download past purchase ....
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
And this is a very informative user tip that will tell you how to move all of your iPad contents into the Mac if you cannot copy and transfer the iTunes library.

  • My white mac book asked me to shut down and now it starts, plays the opening them tune and then has a light blue light... won't go any further. Help!

My Mac asked me to shut down unexepectedly yesterday and when it restarted, once it played the opening theme it gets stuck on a light blue screen. There is a slight noise from the back right hand corner, where the disc drive is. I cannot remember if there is a disc in ther... possibly. It is the old white Mac Book. Desperately hoping she hasn't gone to computer heaven!

Latest update, if it's left running for 5 mins or so, a grey question marks appears, flashes for a couple of mins and then it turns itself off.

  • New mac book pro didn't include lion

Hi I was wondering why the new macbook pro 13'' I just purchased last week didn't come with OS X Lion pre-installed. Am I expected to pay the $30 for the install, if so what was the point of waiting to buy this one.

Read here >  Apple - OS X Lion - Get up to date.
"Customers who purchase a qualifying new Mac Computeror an Apple Certified Refurbished computer from the Apple Online Store on or after July 21, 2011 that does not include OS X Lion can upgrade to OS X Lion for free."
Make sure and backup your important files before upgrading.

  • New mac book pro didn't come with any OS discs

shouldn't the box contain OS discs and software discs?

The first thing to do is calm down, and avoid listening to voices that only quote doom and gloom.
And the second thing to do is recognize you have no catastrophic failure, nor any current software or harware issues at all, so you can calmly learn what there is to learn on this forum.
Several on this site have information you can use because they have lived through disasters (both theirs and others').  "ds store" is one such voice.  He (she?) services Macs, and has worked through the transition to Lion.  dsstore has also helped several uninstall Lion and go back to Snow Leopard -- not that I am saying you should or have *ANY* reason to, but dsstore has extensive experience helping others.
The first part of any recovery of any Mac is backups.  Lion, as I have learned from reading discussions, makes a "recovery partition" on the internal system disk.  But the risk you run of relying on that "recovery partition" is that if the disk dies, you have lost recovery.
I will not cover the details of full backup strategies, as dsstore/eww/tjk/Csound1 can give you excrutiating detail to help you with that.
But with the correct backup, disaster recovery is a simple set up "install new hard disk, clone from the bootable backup" ... two simple steps.  Again, such details I will leave to others.
As to some applications not supported under Lion, there is a reason.
Several programs were compiled for a chipset that is no longer made (PowerPC or PPC).  The code itself is not directly runnable in Intel systems, so a transition "support system" was maintained, called "Rosetta".  Rosetta is not supported in Lion anymore.  Some applications are not runnable under Lion.  Upgrading the applications seems the only recourse.
Now I will cede the floor.

  • I am trying to install a Kodak printer, I did this before on my previous mac book pro (before it broke) and it was all fine, now it is saying that PowerPC applications are not supported and I cannot install it. Is there anything I can do or a reason?

I think I have iOS7 not entirely sure, definitley have Mavericks

Mac OS X incudes all drivers for Printers that work with that version of OS X . If one for your printer is not included then you'll need to buy a new printer.
