Before and after comparison in PSE 6

Can someone tell me how to do a comparison of an edited version to the original in PSE 6 for Mac? It's easy to do in quick edit but what about when editing in full edit?
Thanks!

I handle this in another way. I routinely duplicate the background layer, shut off the visibility of the background layer, and work on the background copy layer. Certain functions of the program don't work on the background layer anyway, and this obviates this constraint. Not everyone subscribes to this work flow, but that is ok,
I crop and establish resolution at this stage, as that pertains to all layers. However, I apply adjustment layers and other enhancements to the background copy layer.
In order to get  before and after visualization, one can:
A. Shut off visibility of all the newly generated layers individually, and look at the original background layer
B. Merge all visible layers, and toggle between this package and the background layer. Note that I do not flatten at this stage.
C. Create stamp visible layer at the top of the stack (CRTL+SHIFT+ALT+E) and toggle using this.

In PSE 9 how can I see before and after
    images in full edit mode?

I don't know how familiar you are with PS. So please apologize if my proposal may sound improper or confusing.
In PS there may be of course lots of "befores" and "afters". Therefore, I would recommend you to use the "History" panel enabling you to easily switch between different states of your editing procedure. Also within the History panel there should be a "Snapshot" feature (I know there is in PS - not sure if this is valid also for PSE) which makes it even easier to name and identify a "before" (or "after") state.
Some users prefer to create a duplicate of the original file first to avoid undesired changes and to be able to compare original and duplicate.
A 3rd option (which I use very often) is to just duplicate the background layer. You then simply apply your tweaks to the resulting "background copy" layer and can switch this layer "on" and "off" (just by clicking on the eye symbol) within the layer panel.
I hope that may be helpful. Please excuse if I misunderstood and you know all these features already.

  • Comparing pictures before and after adjustments

    Dear all,
I'm about to switch from the Canon software DPP to Camera RAW.
In DPP it's possible to split the view in order to compare the same RAW picture with different adjustements. This possibility is very valuable to me.
Is it possible to split the view in Camera RAW ?
If not, how do you manage to compare the original picture to the one you obtain after having made your adjustments ?
    Thank you for your answers,
    Cédric

Each adjusment panel in ACR has a Preview box you can check or uncheck to view the adjustments you have made in that panel.
Alternatively, you can simply toggle the "p" key to see the difference in your image before and after the adjustments. But in either case, this before/after comparison is limired to the adjustments made only in the panel you are currently working in.
However, if you switch to the Presets panel and toggle the "p" key, this will show you the difference between the image as it was initially opened in ACR and after all adjustments made in all panels.

  • Crop - before and after

I'm working on some photos that have various regions that I'd like to crop. Once I've cropped a region I'd like to see a pre-crop view so I can see if there's another region that's worth cropping. I was hoping to do this in the before and after view. Is this possible anyway?

Before/after won't show the before view without a crop. This is by intention, because comparing other adjustments would be hard if the crop also changes in the comparison.
If you want to see the pre-crop version, click onto the history step before the crop (or the import one).

  • Before and After photos

I am taking before and after photos of Botox patients. Can I tether with the "before" pictures within live view while taking and viewing the afters?

Tethering puts the images directly on to the hard drive so you can compare them side by side on the monitor for a true comparison. In LR you can use survey view to compare two or more images on screen.

  • Before and After in Elements Editor

In the elements editor I choose to display both the before and after on the screen simultaneously. Each change to the photo changes both photos-rendering the before photo useless. Certainly that is not the intention.
HOW CAN I RETAIN THE "BEFORE" AND CHANGE THE "AFTER"?

    John,
I assume you're talking about the "New View" feature. This isn't intended
to give a before/after view. It creates another window showing the exact
same image. The idea is that you can zoom in tight on a small area and make
corrections while seeing the overall effect at the same time in another
window viewed at a different magnification. You could also use it to show
two different areas of the same picture side by side for comparison while
    working.
If you want a before and after, you can use the "duplicate image" feature to
make a copy of the file you have open. You could then place them side by
    side for comparison.
Another way to to it is to create a blank layer at the top of the layer
stack and then press ctrl-alt-shift-e to merge all the visible layers and
place the composite in the new layer. Then you can toggle the layer off.
Work on the image as you wish. When you want to see the "before", toggle
    the merged layer on.
I like to work with separate layers for each step. For example, if cloning,
I create a new layer and clone to the new layer. That way, I can toggle the
layer I'm working with on and off to see the before and after.
I've given you three ways to see a before and after. I hope one of them
    will prove useful to you.

  • No original with before and after

PSE 11 on a mac. Before and after only showing the most recently edited version of my work. Not the original photo. Help

Sorry, but I'm still not sure I see what the problem is. When you enter QF or Guided, you will see the condition of your photo at that moment. If you've done editing in expert mode, for example--say you used Correct Color Cast--you'll see your photo just as it is at this moment, with the color cast corrected. Are you saying that when you make a change in quick fix, the before photo is changing to show what you did so that it looks just like the After view? If so, quit the editor and then restart it while holding down command+shift+option. Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.
Or do you mean that in a previous editing session you had  edited a photo and saved the changes, but now you want to go back to the original as your starting point. If the last, if you use organizer, go there and expand the version set and choose the original to send for editing. If you're using iphoto, you may need to right-click the photo and choose Revert to get back to your original again.

I am trying to delete pages I have crated in numbers, but can only see them in print preview. Without print preview I do not see them. How can I delete these pages, but keep others before and after?

    Hi Crushed,
Numbers doesn't have pages. It has a canvas that holds objects such as tables and charts.
Drag the objects from the bottom of the canvas onto the white space above. That will reduce the number of "pages" (sheets of paper) that will print.
    Regards,

  • How do I add a before and after transition to a standalone clip in the second or other than primary stack?

New to FCPX on a project this weekend. I have gotten reasonably comfortable with the basic features but one thing that I CANNOT figure out, is how (what used to be) selecting a track in the timeline to activate it to apply a transition.  I need to select a video clip which stands alone in the stack which is positioned above the primary track and add a blend transition before and after the clip. I have set the opacity to blend with the images in the primary track below but the beginning and end of the clip in the second stack do not fall at the transition points in the lower track which should not matter anyway.  I can’t find it in Help or the third party tutorials that I purchased and completed.  Thanks for your help!

Tom gave you the answer.  As a follow-on you can then use the Cross Dissolve transition on your newly converted connected clip.  This transition will allow it to dissolve smoothly into the video below it.  Note that the Fade to Black transition will take both that clip and the video below it to black which would probably be undesirable. Use Cross Dissolve instead.  Best wishes.

    Hi,
Just switched from CS6 to PS CC. I am very comfortable using ACR in previous versions. I liked to use the preview checkbox located in the upper right-hand corner to see before and afters. That checkbox is no longer in my version of PS CC. I see that they have side-by-side, top and bottom and right and left before and after options in the lower right-hand corner in this version. Is there anyway to get that legacy preview checkbox back so that I can use it?

Thank you very much. I just could not find it on my own. I will have more questions as I get into it.

    Hi Ravi,
Check in ROOSOURCE tables in ECC. You can find the behvariaour options in DELTA field, so based on this table we can say will it support Cube/ODS.

  • Repairing permissions before and after updating software

What is the reason to repair permissions before and after updating software? This may sound like a stupid question to many of you, but I am new to computers and I am trying to learn how and why of some of the things of my PowerBook. I installed some updates without repairing permissions. Did I install some software updates the wrong way? Thank you.

This is a topic which will draw as many emphatic for and against responses as overnight shut down or not, defrag or not, optimise or not, and so on.
I agree with Neil. I believe that OS X has progressed sufficiently that repair permissions has become redundant and so I do not do it on any regular basis.
Some folk may refer you to an Apple Support Article 303602. That Article in its 4 May 2006 version, titled "Top 10 Tips to Keep Your Mac in Top Form" suggested Repair Permissions should be done "after upgrading or installing new software". The Article was however revised on 15 May 2006 to be titled "Top Tips to Keep Your Mac in Top Form" and the item on Repair Permissions [along with two other recommended maintenance tips] was removed. It is my view that the conclusion to be drawn here is that Apple no longer considers Repair Permissions to be a required maintenance procedure.
Many users have adopted a "Repair Permissions" mantra for a cure-all over several years. I dropped it sometime in 10.3.
    But, to each his own.
