Before I install my sound card

I'm ready to install my creative audigy 2nx.  Should I remove everything in device manager from sound, video, and game controllers?  Is thre anything else from soundmax that needs to go?  What do I change in the BIOS?  Thanks for the help
...Doug

Hi Doug; To be on the Safe Side, I would Disable the Onbord Sound, in the BIOS First, and then as you have said, you should go into Device Manager and at least Disable the Sound-Max, device there, so that it's drivers Never try to Load with Windows......I went one Further and Removed the Drivers and Device Completely, But I really think that is Overkill, unless that is, you never expect any Trouble with your Creative Card, then you have to run around Installing Devices and Drivers in case of Emergancy, No , I would leave everything as is, Unless you do have a Driver Conflict, which I doubt you will
Now we spoke before on how to Install the Drivers for the Creative Card, Make sure that you Follow the Directions, as with XP and 2000, you Can NOT let the "Driver Install Wizard" install the Software, you have to Manually Close the Wizard, and install them, as I see that you have XP Now .........Sean REILLY875

  • An error message after I install my sound card

I have one of MSI product. K7N2G-L (MS6570) mainboard for AMD processors. It's bios version is 3.5 (I have flashed it because of the CPU temprature measurement problem, now it show 20 C lower temprature of CPU than it was. Is this normal?).
My operating system is Windows 98 SE. After I install window I install my sound card. My sound card's model is Creative Sound Blaster Live Value. But after I install Nvidia nforce system drivers and my sound card drivers, whenever I reboot my computer I see an error message. The message is:
" EMM386 not installed - unable to set frame page address "
and after this message there says: press any key to continue.
In fact, after a while Windows 98 starts, even I don't press a key. Why I see this message and how can I prevent to see this message. What is wrong? What should I do?
If you can help me about this problem I will be so glad.

    Hi..
I am not sure but this might be one of those DOS drivers that load off the autoexec.bat.. (COs win98 does not use emm386 for extended memory managenent)..
Try this... Go to the MS-DOS command prompt, type
    C:
    CD
    NOTEPAD autoexec.bat
And search for a entry that is referting to a file in the Live installation directory and add the words REM infront of it...
    Ex.
    C:LiveLoad.exe
    make it
    REM C:Liveload.exe
Chances are u will not be needing this file to get audio in the system...
    Good Luck

    [EDIT]
Try putting rem infront of entry in the audoexec.bat.. u sould be able to catch it easyly

  • [VIA] KT4AV seemingly dead after installing new sound card!

    Hi all,
I recently fitted a new sound card to my system. following this my system wouldn't start - it wouldn't even get past POST (i'm getting the 4 red LEDs on the D-Bracket for "cpu incorrectly installed or damaged"). I've takenb the card out again, and no change. i've removed and reseated the CPU, and no change. I've even changed the CPU for another that i know is working fine, and (you guessed it) no change. I've also tried resetting/clearing the CMOS (nothing).
The main thing i should stress is that my system was 100% fine before this. never locked, rebooted or crashed.
    My system is:
    KT4AV mobo
Athlon XP 2800+ (and also a Duron 900 for testing, as above)
    2 x Crucial DDR2700 512MB sticks
    Radeon 9800 Pro (Saphire)
    Q-Tec (yes - i know!) 550W PSU
Could the CPU socket have been damaged/burnt out or something?
    Hope someone can help, cheers
    Jon...

the first thing i will suggest is.... try another (better) PSU. borrow one off a friend. you may find that the board powers up again

  • INstalling new sound card on HP Pavilion a1029_uk

    Hi
Due to the issues raised in my other thread
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-PC-Sound-and-Audio/Suddenly-no-sound/td-p/607655
I've gone and bought separate sound card (not from HP admittedly) but can't get it to install as the install software keeps crashing.
Could it be that I've not totally got rid of the on board motherboard sound chips (that no longer work) are somehow interfering in the process.
I've tried to do the install both with the and without disabling the on board audio in the BIOS settings (turning this off does seem to remove everything including Sound Manager, volume control etc) but it makes no difference.
Do I need to leave this one but remove sound manager and the device drivers manually and if so, how do I do this as Sound Manager isn't included in the "Add / Remove Software" list.
So the question is: Is it possible to totally remove all systems access to the on board sound set, so I can use a PCI sound card instead.
    Technical stuff.

Just to let everyone know I've solved this one.
It seems part of the new sound cards that hooks around the back of the PC to hold it in place is slightly too short, and/or the wrong shape, so when you put on the plate on my HP Pavillion that holds all the PCI cards in place, this pulls the soundcard slightly out of it's slot, up at the opposite end with the smaller pins so although the computer can detect there's a PCI card there, it can't tell what it is.
If I leave this plate off, and allow the hook around part to hang free, the card works.

  • Cant install new Sound card driv

I currently have an audigy 2 zs plugged into my computer and every time i try to install the drivers i get a device installer error. It says "Windows Could not load the installer for MEDIA." Any idea how i can fix this problem? My computer obviously knows the card is there because it currently shows a multimedia audio controller under the sound video and game controllers.

Could my problem be my card is just completely toasted and i have to get a new one? Anyone know of a good set of diagnostic tools that i might be able to use to test that out? Or do i just have to swap in a new card?
Edit: Nevermind tried installing an old sound card and still got the same error, any idea how i can fix this problem?Message Edited by BuckRodgers on 03-5-200709:46 PM

Check the Audio Midi Setup application and make sure it is set for 44.1 kHz output.
Sometimes after updates it jumps to 96 kHz, and that causes the sound output to go bad.
If that doesn't help, and the place you got it repaired was an authorized service center, contact AppleCare at 1-800-APLCARE.

  • "A How-To" on the steps to FIX the Problem of NO Sound Card DETECTION with AUDIGY 2 and Win XP

Note#: When restarting the PC each time, shut off the main power switch on the Power Supply then back on.
Note#2: You will need the Windows XP CD WITH the SP2 on it or have the download SP2 Install file from MS on your PC. I have it on CD.
    . Remove the sound Card
    2. Use the Removal/Un-installation Procedures for the drivers in Knowledge Base Under Windows XP Step by step. Restart to get all the files deleted in the Creative folder if necessary.
Here is the (Solution ID#) for the Uninstallaion found in the Creative.com Knowledge Base: SID72 "How to uninstall Sound Blaster drivers and applications?"
Alternati'vely, Click on the Sound Blaster Picture Box under the Knowledge Base Main Search Page and the article should be in the resulting list.
    3. Use the DCProSetup_.exe from http://files.trunetworks.com/utilities/
Use it carefully Selecting [Creative] then Check the box for Muntiple Cleaning Filters, and remove the Creative Audio Drivers by Clicking on Start.
    4. Go into the Registry by Typing Regedit in the Start>Run.. Menu
Navigate and remove the Entry for CTCMSGo.exe, it is running in the back ground otherwise and i believe it interrupts the re-installation of MediaSource Files.
    HKEY_CURRENT USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
The file link/tag, it will be on the right half of the screen, Delete it. CTCMSGo.exe=(Creative Technologies Media Source Go)
    5. Restart the PC, dont forget to switch Power Supply to off while powered down and on before powering back up.
6.Go to the Win XP SP2 CD or the file downloaded, select re-install but choose UPDATE, not New Installation. Let the Install run and update your pc, this procedure has no data loss or settings changes in Windows.
    7. Restart PC
    8. Turn off PC and install the Audigy 2 Card. Then turn on the PC. At this point you might get a plxcore.plx Error of file missing. Not to worry.. copy the file from within the Creative Drivers CD and paste it into the Creative Folder In C:\Program Files\Creative
The Knowledge base Article on the steps is: SID287 "Error: Program could not load because Plxcore.plx cannot be found"
    9. Power up and see if you get PCI Device, and Audio Controller Detetion. If you dont then do the following:
    A) Remove the Sound Card and Re-install the Win XP SP2 Update a number of times ( I did this about 5 times until detection) Each time restart and install the Sound Card into any of the empty PCI Ports until detection.
If that does not work after a number of times try the following:
B)Power off and switch the PCI slot of the Sound Card (to all the PCI slots if necessary with complete power off each time) Without Re-installing XP SP2 Update.
    0. After you get Detection, The Windows Auto Installer for Drivers will pop up..select Find Drivers Automatically, then Install then install the drivers it finds. It will put in some basic Audigy Drivers from the CD or online i'm not sure where it gets them from. Keep your Driver CD in the CD Dri've.
.Restart the PC, then install the Drivers and Media Source Files from the CD (it may not all get installed and may give an error and you have to shut down and re-install the drivers and Media Source over again and over again so it fills in the gap of missing files/drivers until it all works without deleting the previously installed parts).
    2. Only install this update from the File/ Downloads Section on the Creative website: EAX4DRV_AUDIGY2__84_50.exe Dated 29 July 04. The new beta one that was released is what started all my troubles, so plz i urge you to wait for it to be official.. unless you really want to test it out at your risk.
And there you have it.. in 8 Hours and some ideas from friends and relati'ves concerning detection problems of other hard ware they have had i decided to play Roulette all night and this combo works. I had to play Roulette switching the PCI slots (5 of them), and then towards the end play Roulette with the Creative Driver CD install... until they all work perfectly. WHEW!!!
Notice: I hope if you are really ticked off at having no sounds and want to try this at your own risk and responsiblity go ahead, and I wish you luck. None of the proedures are too out of the ordinary. I dont know if it will work for you but it worked for me and maybe it will possibly for other similar Sound Cards as well.. like ZS or Li've! etc. with similar problems. Happy Sound Blasting!!!

  • Internal sound card problems

I have a HP Pavilion dv6636nr Entertainment Notebook PC running windows vista that after installing an external sound card it wont recognize the internal card after disconnecting the external. I have tried countless things like reinstalling drivers and updating the BIOS

    Hi the_bacon_lord,
    Welcome to the HP forum!
I understand that after installing an external sound card and disconnecting the card , the computer no longer recognizes the internal card. You tried updating the drivers and bios, but it is unchanged.  Here is a document on Resolving No Sound or Audio Problems (Windows Vista). I know you have done some of the options in the document, but I would try any remaining ones.  As the document states the last option is to a system restore, back to a known good time ( one before you installed the external card).  Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows Vista). Backup any personal files that were added between the restore date and now, to prevent loss.. You will also need to reinstall any programs installed after the restore date.I hope this helps.

  • Added sound card, no onboard audio no more

i added an sb live value for the use of the joystick port only, not wanting to use ti as a sound card. the onboard audio of my 865pe neo2 fis2r msi 6728 no longer works. so how can i get back my onboard audio? my speakers are still plugged into the onboard. is this even posible? to use onboard audio, but use my joystick on the sb live card when playing games? or is it only one or the other? do i need to go into the bios maybe and tell it to use onboard audio? like maybe it changed cus of the new sb live value card?
ok, i hooked up my speakers to the sb live card, it's fine i guess , but is it possible to use onboard audio with joystick port only from the live card? or because i have a sound card installed now, does that totally disable onboard completely unless i removed the live card?

Yep No is the Answer, Because as soon as Windows Sees that you have a PCI sound card, it will not allow the Onboard sound chips Drivers to Load upon Bootup, I cant believe that you went through the Trouble of Installing a Sound Card that has a "MIDI" port, Instead of just Getting a USB Joystick , as the New USB Joysticks are Much more Responsive and Support Many More Games, and You can Get one For Less $ then you Paid for the Soundblaster .....Sean REILLY875

  • Sound Blaster Live 24-bit PCI Sound Card and Creative Sound Blaster PCI Card not detect

Ok here is my problem. I bought a Creative Sound Blaster PCI sound card a while back and it was working fine but recently when I would boot up my computer and try to play music say off of Winamp it says Bad DirectSound Driver. When I check device manager it shows no sound card there and in sounds and audio devices it says no audio device. Now my brother believed this to be a card fault so we went to Frys and bought a Sound Blaster Li've 24-bit PCI card. I uninstalled the old drivers and installed this new one but yet it's the same problem. My assumption was that Windows XP had something conflicting so I reinstalled the OS. It found the card and I installed the latest drivers?off of this site but now it does the same thing yet again with a fresh install of Windows XP. The card has been in all 3 of my PCI slots and it will detect it for a moment but then acts like as if the card was never installed. Like I never installed a sound card into the computer. The onboard audio has been disabled for a while now but I do not know what the problem could be. I did Scan for hardware changes but it doesn't show up. Sometimes when the card is detected if I do scan for hardware changes and the card is there it will just magically disappear from the device manager as if it was never there. Even when I try to load music and I see the card is detected it will not play the music and ends up locking up Winamp to the point that sometimes will go BSOD. Now I would really like to find out what the issue is because I am planning this weekend to swap out my motherboard with a duplicate board to see if that will end up fixing the problem but I want to find out if there is any other way to fix this issue. Thank you.Message Edited by AuXoIs on 02-25-200808:28 PM

Hmm what other options is there for the bios on PCI slots? Also anything you connect to the motherboard can have oxidization (I think its that) build up on the connection. Check the connector on the card and get a eraser (Pen eraser is better) and give it a good cleaning. The connector might have alot of build-up on it and you can see it by a dark yellowy colour. I cleaned my graphics card and ram connectors after they got alot of the build-up on them. On a older computer my graphics stopped working and this fixed it. Also I went away for a while (like a month) and came back to see that my puter didn't display anything. Opened it up and saw that the graphic card had alot of corrosion? on the card connector and in the slot. Does that if you computer is turned of for a long time. Had a heck of time trying to clean the slot out. One other thing that it could be is the sound card is faulty. I had an audigy 2 and it died a while back . It picks it up and then try and use it computer freezes and the after restart it's not there anymore. Hope it's not that problem. Hope this gives you something to go by.

  • XP Pro, Service Packs 1,2,3, and sound card problems

I recently purchased a white macbook. So far it has been a very good experience, however I am having some trouble with XP Pro and its service packs. I've installed XP and it works fine for the most part however the sound card does not work. I tried to install the sound card drivers but they did not work. My questions are:
    - Do I need to install service pack 1 seperately or does it install with XP?
    - Can I only use service pack 2 for the drivers to work or can I use service pack 3 as well?
    - When I try to install service pack 2, it says that i require 4 more megabytes, I free space, however it still states the same thing, how do I resolve this?

Hi all and welcome to Discussions,
the 4MB error has amde its return with the Service Pack 3, so maybe these insructions can help you:
    1. Click Start - Run - Type “regedit” and press enter.
    2. Navigate to
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE
    \Software
    \Microsoft
    \Windows
    \CurrentVersion
    \Setup
    3. In the right pane, Right-click and select New - String value
    4. Name it as “BootDir” and set its value to “C:\”
XP with Service Pack 2 was always a neecessity with BootCamp.
Microsoft has add some with the SP2 that are needed for BootCamp to work.
For older (pre-SP2 XP-CDs) you can use these instructions http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxpsp2slipstream.asp to make yourself a XP SP2 installation CD.
Works with SP3 as well, but to my knowledge you must have a XP SP1 CD for start.

  • Sound card proble

Hey, I just registered here and was wondering if someone could help me out. See, I have a a microphone set up on my comp, that used to work until I had to completely wipe my hardri've :-( **bleep** viruses. I was wondering if my microphone doesn't work anymore because the dell support lady didn't fully re-install my sound card or something. Any ideas?
P.S. any help would be deff appreciated, and if this is in the wrong spot, sorry i couldn't really figure out where else to put it.

Althogh Dell PC's have a badged, Creative soundcard they are different than the ones here so it is hard to help. Why don't you ask the Dell lady what she did and ask her to fix it up?
