Before I publish to iweb

I'm ready to publish my site, I have 2 questions before I put it up.
1 When I open my iweb pages I get an error box, says:
"The following errors occurred while trying to open this document"
Then it lists three "missing files" all jpg - which I probably deleted earlier.
However, the only option is to continue...? But I don't know what these discription numbers refer to or how to get to them. Any ideas?
2 I'm not a math wiz, so I presume the max size of any site is 512 MB? (I found in inspector) The inspector showed the size of each of my pages, but not by the number of MB. I have 5 pages, inspector shows as 13 KB, I presume the total. So, am I over or under? Which is more, MB, GB, or KB?
Thanks, I've gotten a lot of info from other questions posted, so thanks for that too.

Singapore, Thanks for the explaination of KB to GB. BUT ... Your response to my first question doesn't answer my question, or HOW to get to that data?
Q. When I open my iweb pages I get a box saying there's an error, saying:
"The following errors occurred while trying to open this document"
Then it lists three "missing files" all jpg - which I probably deleted earlier.
However, the only option is to continue...? But I don't know what these discription numbers refer to or how to get to them. Any ideas?
Ans. 1.Hmmm, strange, when you drag an image file anywhere (on your mac) into iWeb, if you delete the original source, your image in iWeb will still be there. Try duplicating that document, page or something. Or if you can, delete those images and replace them, at this point I could only guess there is some sort of "data corruption".
First, I didn't delete the original sourse ... second, they are jpg's, not documents. I have deleted and changed some of my images, but all in iWeb.
My question is, how, in iWeb, do I delete these things, & get rid of these "missing files" - when I don't know where they are in my iWeb?
One more issue, if I may. Every time I come onto the discussion for iWeb, I get something saying I don't have permission to go to this forum (Even when I tried to respond to my own discussion question)! I registered to put my first question here ...? Then I'm asked to "register" but when I try, it says someone with MY ID is already registered? What gives?

  • Cannot publish from iweb to iweb website

I have the same problem. I tried your advice but still cannot get iweb to publish. Before I had my computer serviced it worked fine and publishing took place automatically.

  • Issues with publishing my iWeb site to .MAC - Progress bar freezes at 100%

Well, as topic says, i'm having troubles publishing my iWeb site to .MAC now since upgrading to '08. The progress bar reaches full circle, but then nothing. Left it uploading to .Mac for well over 2 hours one time while out of the house...nada. Sometimes i get an error message, sometimes not and have to close iWeb while it's still publishing.
    Any feedback regarding this?
    Thanks in advance.
    /Rich

Update: After 36 hours, I have successfully managed to upload my entire website via the "Publish All to .Mac" option. I now have blue indicators on the left side of my iWeb program in place of those pesky red ones. How did I do it? Well, I'm not sure. But on my last attempt I looked at the problem from a different perspective, so I took an alternate approach. I had a feeling that I was experiencing a network timeout issue caused by a 3rd party software, so I created a Whitelist entry on my website filtering software that allows unlimited access to "idisk.mac.com";; and "web.mac.com";; domains. I've got two kids at home, so I'm running the free OpenDNS Dashboard service on my network which provides content filtering (blocks adult site, phishing site, etc..). I started using this service two weeks ago. My last website update was a week before that. I figured I had nothing to loose by trying. To my surprise, it worked. Now, it took almost two hours to publish, of which the pie indicator was in the  "filled" position for a nerve racking hour. To reconfirm,  I then made a minor change to one of the pages on my website and re-published. This time using the "Publish to .Mac" option in place of the ALL option and once again it worked. It took less than 5 minutes. Now, I'm not sure if this is a coincidence, maybe Apple fixed the problem, or maybe my website filtering service was causing some type of time out issue all along??  Don't know.. But at least for now, I'm a happy camper since I have my site up.

  • Solutions for "Unknown error occured" when publishing in iWeb

Many complaints where written on the forums about this annoying *"Unknown error occurred"* bug, while publishing in iWeb.
Until now, nobody could actually find the problem, but in most cases the problem is not a network connection, but an iWeb bug, that occurs during html files creation process.
I'm using iWeb a lot and through my work found several different solutions, that worked for me and for many other users. Try them all out, before going desperate and rebuilding the site from scratch:
    1. Try closing and reopening iWeb (do it in all other steps between operations).
    2. Try to publish the site Locally. If it works, try publishing to the server again.
    3. Try publishing the ENTIRE site, first Locally, then to the server (File>Publish Entire Site). This operation forces iWeb to rebuild all the files from skratch.
    4. Try closing iWeb and deleting the User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iweb.plist preferences file. iWeb will create a new one again next time it opens (don't worry, you will only lose iWeb preferences, but not your website)
    5. If publishing locally worked, but online didn't, then upload the locally published site folder to your server manually using any FTP client.
    6. If nothing works, try reinstalling iWeb. Before doing that, back-up your project file, which is located at +User/Library/Application Support/iWeb+ to some other location.
Also, as an advice, avoid using non web-safe names in your files and web pages. I.e. - don't use spaces and Capital letters, this may cause problems. For example, instead of naming a file: "Nice picture.jpg", name it: "nice_picture.jpg"
Post more solutions, if you have them.

Try signing out of the app (Store menu,) quitting the app, restarting the app and signing back in.

  • HELP!  I can't publish my Iweb to Mobile Me

Hey Everyone! I am currently in Nigeria and the internet is sketchy at best. It is very slow but does have a continuous signal. I've tried five times to publish my iweb and I keep getting the signal that it couldn't connect to Mobile Me. This is after 3 hours of attempting to publish. I've already published before when I was in the States and I just wrote a new posting on the blog that I want to upload. Is there a faster way to upload/publish since I only made one small change rather than publishing everything again. I didn't choose Publish All to Mobile Me... I just picked Publish. Does anyone know what to do?? Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. This fix for another MobileMe issue might help you:

After waiting a day for the rolling restore to happen, I called AppleCare because Apple had sent an email saying my service was back, and it wasn't. I still could send and not receive using Mail.
Here is what fixed it. Go to MobileMe (terrible name) in System Preferences, log out. Then enter a garbage name and password and try to log in. *This apparently clears the MobileMe preferences*. Then enter your real UserName and PassWord. For me this was lights on.
I am left wondering how long ago I could have had email had I known this preference reset scheme.

  • I changed web hosts and can't publish through iWeb SEO Tool or Rage Site Map Automator. Do I need to delete the old site map?

I switched to iPage hosting since Mobile Me is expiring. Also recently upgraded to OS X 10.7.3 and am using iWeb 3.0.4 for my web site design. I published directly to the FTP from iWeb but all title tags, meta tags have disappeared and I'm not showing up in Google or others. I tried publishing from iWeb SEO but it couldn't complete the process.
Should I first publish to a folder as I did before with Mobile Me, then delete all old sitemaps and start over with the Site Map Automator and then try to publish from the SEO tool? Will I lose the key words and meta tags that are already in iWeb SEO?
    Thanks!

The problem is that most tech support people don't understand how iWeb structures a site.
When a visitor types in "domain-name-com" the browser expects to find an index.html in the root folder on the server. In "normal" websites the index.html file is the first page of the site.
The iWeb index.html file is a redirect to the first, or landing, page of the site which is the one at the top of the left column in iWeb just below the site name.
    iWeb produces two index.html files.
One is outside of the folder containing the rest of the files and directs to - folder-name/home-page-name.html
The other one is inside the folder and directs to - home-page-name.html
You have two choices of how you upload the files since you are publishing to a local folder.
You can upload the whole folder plus the external index.html to the root folder on the server and the URL to any page will be...
    http://www.domain-name.com/site-name/page-name.html
If you upload the contents of the site folder, and not the folder or the external index.html, the URL will be...
    http://www.domain-name.com/page-name.html
See this page for more info and the warning about breaking the RSS feed....

  • How to publish an iWeb website to an already existing wesbite?

I'm updating my companies website using iWeb. I would like to publish the sight but would also like to leave the existing website until all the editing is complete. I've never really used iWeb or any website program before and need some help.
    Thanks,
    Michael

    Hi michael
Why not create a Dir in your Old site Called "test"
Publish your Iweb Site to "test" dir
Then while you are testing you can Navigate to
    www.yoursite.com/test/Iwebsite
to see if everything works, and when you are happy, Backup up then delete old site, then publish New Iweb site cleanly to your web server.

  • Error when publishing to iWeb

    Alo,
Once again, I'm having problem publishing some of my websites. I have several web sites, all have been published via iWeb to .Mac, now MobileMe. The previous time, the problems just disappeared eventually & I was told due to migration problems @ .Mac side. Now, it's here again.
    Publish Error
An error occurred while publishing file "/web/Sites/xxxx". Try publishing again later.
where xxxx is the site name.
Like before, in the case of publishing error, I'm able to publish to a folder. Any idea?
    Many Thanks.

Have to admit, no problems with publishing to a local folder. I don't publish via ftp either, but still upload using Cyberduck.

  • Does anybody know if we can publish an iWeb site in iCloud?

I was a member of MobileMe but since it was announced that it will be discontinued I didn't renew my subscription.
So, my question is if, I can publish my iweb site to iCloud?
    Please advise.

    http://www.apple.com/mobileme/transition.html
What happens to the iWeb sites that I’ve published to MobileMe?
You can continue publishing iWeb sites to MobileMe through June 30, 2012, even after moving to iCloud. With iWeb you can easily move a site published to MobileMe to another web hosting service and you should do so before that date. Please read this article for details.

  • Has anyone published their iWeb site to their old Homepage folder?

    Hi,
I'd like to avoid changing URLs, and was thinking I could just publish the iWeb site to the folder my homepage site is in on my iDisk. Would that work? Has anyone done that before? Any issues I should know about?
    Thanks for your help!
    Lora

Lora. It can be done but not much is to be gained and many features will not work the same as if published to a "folder" and then uploaded to your iDisk.
Do a bit of "homework" and learn some of the rules about iWeb, Homepage and your iDisk.
Changing your URL's is the easy part. Getting all the external parts to work is, well, work.
Plenty of ways to integrate older pages (via external links) into your new iWeb pages.
The brave can edit the html code to make their own iWeb and Homepage Sites:

  • Cannot publish from iWeb 08 after upgrading to Leopard

When I click on Publish from iWeb I first get a window .Mac Information asking me to login and a smaller window saying "logging in to iWeb". I click on sign in button from .Mac Information window and then get the System Preferences window telling me I am signed in and giving me my account status. From here nothing happens. The "logging into iWeb" message stays and nothing happens.
    What should I do?

Thanks and Merry Christmas to you too! I have experienced both modem/network problems and was unable to publish in Tahiti and Cook Islands because of that and now these problems which have nothing to do with network it seems - so yours may or may not be network related. I was able to cheat and copied my "Site" folder from my hard drive to my iDisk rather then publishing. I can't remember if you've tried this or not (read a lot of strings today) but you can publish to a folder and then copy that folder to your iDisk at /Web/Sites/iWeb/Site as "Site" after first renaming the one that is out there now. Let me know if you have any questions on how to do it. It sounds like you are traveling like we are and anxious to communicate with friends and family back home. When you are bored, our site is web.mac.com/baganworldtour.
At least we now have our first update out there in two weeks. But it took almost two hours to copy the folder and this won't work forever. Hopefully we, whether by the discussion room or .mac support next week, will be able to fix the problem for real.
    Thanks. Good Luck. Merry Christmas

  • Do not have privileges to save and publish on iWeb :(

I am a newer employee at my company and we publish podcasts. Unfortunately, my iMac account can not publish to iWeb. Here are the messages I recieve when I try to publish... first:
    SAVE FAILED
You do not have permission to make changes to that file
    Then it says:
    PUBLISH ERROR:
An Error occured while publishing "The File name"
What is the problem? I also cannot save the uploaded podcast either. I have talked to the Mac people and they are stumped... they tell me I have to remove and reinstall Mac OSX, wiping out my hardrive in process.
I was able to post podcasts on the previous employee's account on this computer, but I had to clear out all of the old podcasts (thanks to a tech support mistake) to do so, and I am fearful of having that happening again. Thanks

Have you set the .Mac preferences in your System preferences to the other account and the correct password?

  • How do I fix an error "4652747.png" when publishing my iWeb site to iMac?

Every time I try to publish my iWeb site to .Mac I get an error message that says there's an error in " ...files/ca4652747.png." I know this is an image file, but when i search for it on my hard drive it shows a blank image. I've tried deleting the file from the hard drive but when I re-publish, a second file "c00ff001c.png" on a different web page shows the same error. I can't figure out how to fix these errors. It publishes to a folder, or so it says, but i don't know how to check that. I am supposed to publish the entire site at the end of this week and have all the work done but can't get past this point. Can anyone help me? I'm a new mac user and this is my first shot at web design, so I've probably missed something obvious, but would appreciate any help.

    k, try this:
backup your domain file! delete the one in the folder BUT HAVE A COPY OF IT SOMEWHERE ELSE. Then open iWeb, create something save it and publish it!
now go to your backuped file, make one more backup!!!!
move one of the backuped files into the Users/username/bblablabla folder and open iWeb. try publish all and see if it works!

  • I can't publish to iWeb, it doesn't seem to be able to login to my icloud account. any ideas?

I've been trying to publish a site on iweb. It seems that iweb is unable to sign in to my icloud account. I push the publish to mobile me tab, push the sign into your account tab,( already a member). I get the barbers pole for 30 seconds or so, and then, nothing happens.  Any ideas anyone?

MobileMe closed in July last year.
    iCloud does not offer webhosting.
You have to find a webhost.
It's been discussed for the past 2 years in this forum, the MMe forum and all over the planet.
    Browse this forum.
    In short :
    Find a webhoster.
And since you use iWeb 08, publish to a folder and use an FTP app to put the files on the server.
Oh, and look to the right. I see these topics :

  • How do I remove old web site when publishing new site with same URL in iweb? Hit replace when publishing new iweb site (so we could have control over changes) but new site name is attached to old via a / after our www address we want to keep.

I hit the replace when publishing the new iweb site (so we could have control over changes - last one was not an apple based site) but new site name is attached to old via a forward slash and underscore after our www address. Makes it very messy with a very long web address.  Original address now followed by iweb site name followed by name of first page? Went for iweb as not that computer literate - all going so well?! Cheers for help in anticipation. Have to get off to work now but be great end to week if we could be sorted tonight. Rupes

Well yes of course, if you try and publish through iWeb there won't be an option to publish without your site folder which is exactly why I told you to download Cyberduck and use Cyberduck to upload your site to your server having published your site from iWeb to a local folder.  That is what you need to do if you don't want your site name to be included in yoru url.
It would have been easier also if you had used Cyberduck initially to connect to your server and delete your old site yourself - at least that way you would have deleted the correct files rather than relying on your hosting service to do it and doing it incorrectly.
Download Cyberduck and then select the publish to a local folder option from iWeb and then use Cyberduck to upload your site to your server, but rather than uploading the whole site folder and separate index file, upload ONLY the contents of your site folder and then your url will be http://www.domain.com/page_name.html.
    It really isn't rocket science!
