Before I return iPad: Is the WiFi problem software or hardware?

Obviously there is a problem with the iPad Wifi.
Dozens of threads full of unhappy owners here. Many
more on MacRumors.
I am getting ready to give up on the iPad. For $500 the
WiFi shouldn't be **** poor, dropping connections and
giving me low signal coverage.
Just one question. Has anyone figured out if this is a
hardware issue (antenna in bad place) or something that
can be fixed with a software update?
Software update I can wait for. Hardware I return this thing.
Oh, and if someone has a fix, please post it.
And yes, I did all these steps:
1. Reboot your router - just unplug it from the power.
2. Reset your network settings - Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network settings. When your iPad restarts, tap Settings > WiFi > Other and re-enter your network name, security, and password.
Still bad WiFi coverage and losing of password. I have a Verizon Actiontech "G" router.

The only issue, if it turns out to be that, I'm experiencing is the seemingly low signal level.
Last night I formulated a theory that I've ALMOST convinced myself has some merit.
I'm wondering if the iPad's software conserves power by supplying the antenna as needed thereby helping to achieve the 10-12hrs of published run time?
In reading these many threads and performing various speed tests, I see my bars increase and decrease from a dot to full as needed a lot of the time.

  • Mid 2013 Haswell Macbook Air Wifi problem: software or hardware?

I have the 11" Macbook Air (mid-June 2013, Haswell) and it has problems connecting to wifi. It reluctantly connects after searching for the network for a few minutes, but then it stays connected.
My question is: can anyone tell me if this is a hardware issue (in which case return/repair is necessary) or a software issue? If it can be fixed by an update, I don't mind waiting, but I don't want to waste my time if the machine is physically defective.

There is an update available now.

After upgrade to iOS 8 and after to 8.0.2 I can't use my iPad because of wifi problem

I am having a similar experience.  Since upgrading my Ipad 2 to iOS 8 and then iOS 8.0.2 I have not been able to use wifi consistently and it is very frustrating.  I can no longer watch any video because the wifi shuts down and won't come back without a complete reboot of the iPad. And forget about consistent bluetooth!  My ipad worked perfect before the "upgrade" to iOS 8 and beyond but now it is really worthless.  I have spent a lot of time and have tried every fix that I have read about online and NOTHING has corrected the problems created by the upgrade.  After spending a lot of time trying to resolve this I am certain the problem is the buggy "upgrade" but I feel like no one at Apple is listening.  I have always loved Apple products but this rotten Apple experience is making me think about exploring what else is out there.  Apple folks, I recommend getting this fixed quick or your stockholders won't be smiling!

  • TS1559 WIFI solutions proposed by Apple are not working. Does oneone how to solve the WIFI problems?

    Dear Apple.
I was really happy with my iphone4s, IOS 6.0, great product amazing quality and posibilities BUT.......
I updated from IOS 6.0 to 6.1.1. and the WIFI nightmare started.
I waited for a new update to fix the WIFI problems and I updated my iphone 4s from 6.1.1. to 6.1.2. in order to solve these problems related with WIFI connections.
But IOS 6.1.2. is even worst:
    - WIFI is not working at all. So I cannot download apps greater than 50MB.
    - Battery life is shorter than ever.
    - 3G goes in and out every minute.
    - When you operate the iphone4s you can realize that is hotter than before.
These problems are unnaceptable and inconsistent with a high quality standard product.
You can read a lot of blogs, I am not the only one.
Please give us a solution as soon as possible.
    Best Regards
    AICITEL

    Thank you for your support.
My router is a TL-WR740N, and I think it has only a 2.4-2.4835GHz antenna.
So it seems that I have to keep on trying.
I also tryed to rename the router, still nothing.
    Thank you anyway.

printing to a non-airprinter from an iPad
To print from the iPad, your going to have to install some more software:
-- install a printer app on the ipad. many printer makers have iPad applications for their printers.  Look in the app store
-- install enabling software on a computer which you have connected the printer

  • If I install Yosemite and find that the wifi problems are too bad, can I go back to Mountain Lion?

Almost everything I do on my MacBookPro requires a steady wifi connection. I have been reading all the horror stories about the wifi problems with Yosemite. I would like to install Yosemite, but would like to be able to go back to Mountain Lion if the problems are as extreme as I have been hearing.
Details: My Mac is 3 years old (Apple Care ran out 2 days ago!). I recently upgraded from 4GB of ram to 16GB.
    Router is a Linksys E4200.
    I have an Iphone-4s
My husband has an older MacBook running Lion.
I connect to an Epson Artisan 835 with wifi via my router
We have no need to have the Apple devices communicate with each other.
I am currently running an appliance in Virtual Box. One reason I want to move to Yosemite is to be able to run it in VMware Fusion instead.
    Thanks.

    Hi there CarylLynne,
If you upgrade to Yosemite, you should be able to use the following article to revert to the previously installed OS using Time Machine, named:
OS X Yosemite: Revert to a previous OS X version
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

What model of Mac?  I have a MBP running 10.7.3 and do not have that issue.  From the other couple of posts I've seen about it, it seems to be maybe an issue with some iMacs?  Have your tried searching the Lion or iMac forums for similar issues, just to see if anyone has hit on why it is happening?

  • HT202157 Does 5.1.2 fix the wifi problem for ATV3

Does the 5.1.2 update correct the wifi problems introduced by the previous update?. My ATV3 had stopped seeing my wifi and only worked on ethernet.

It means that your router isn't in their database yet, and I'm not sure how you can get it added - it used to be held by a third-party and you could send requests to them, but since they brought it in-house I'm not use how it's done

  • Is someone SURE of where is the wifi problem on iPhone 4S?

I'm a little sick of this. I don't know for how many time I'll have the wifi problem. I'm just unhappy because I bought this device with my illusion and I have this, i think, serious problem.
I just want to know if someone knows, for sure, if the problem is from software or hardware.
I someone said me, sincerely, that he/she tested that is a software issue I'll feel better. It should be just for some time that apple fix it.

well... sorry but i Thought that you knew it.
Just google and you'll know that i'm correct.
There's a lot of people that have a problem with wi-fi on their iPhone 4S. The connection crash and don't let us todo things like download some applications. Wi-fi restarts, has cuts..
Sorry, but i'm from spain and, of course, my language is spanish and can't explain much better. But you can read AT THIS FORUM a lot of people that had the same issue. People that buy a new router, change de router's IP, try to make a single connection with their device...
I red that it could be iOS 5. Someone wrote that he downgraded his device, worked fine and failed again when upgrading it ti iOS 5.
I just don't know. I just know that people was angry for the antenagate on iPhone 4 and now there is people, like me, scared about the wi-fi problem. And, of course, thinking what to do.

  • How can i resolve the wifi problem with iphone 4s?

please help me, i update my iphone to ios 6.1 beta 5 but the wifi problem continues!

Why don't you try some basic troubleshooting instead of ranting about how someone else should solve a problem that's specific to YOUR phone.

  • When apple will solve the wifi problem ?

when apple will solve the wifi problem ?

They keep trying, but haven't yet in all the time OS X has existed. Every version of OS X has had some WiFi issue with some group of users. The normal pattern is they release a fix for one group, and another group develops a new WiFi problem.

HOW TO FIX THE WIFI PROBLEM: Settings > Wifi > (little blue arrow) > scroll down to "Renew Lease" and then click on it.

    Didn't work for me.
What did work was going to the Wifi network settings and setting the HTTP Proxy to Auto rather than Off.
Worked for both iphone4S and ipad2.

    Mike,
If by "still nothing" you mean they are not showing up in the AU manager after reinstalling them....
Im guessing the AU Cache itself is now corrupted so.....
    Quit LPX
    Open Finder
Press the option key and click "Go" in Finder's menu and select "Library". (This is the User Library and not the System Library and is normally hidden which is why you have to hold down the option key when clicking on Go.... to reveal it in the drop down menu that will appear)
Go to "Caches" dir and remove "AudioUnitCache" dir.
    Now Restart your Mac.....
and then Launch LPX and let it rescan your plugins and see if that fixes things....
    Fingers crossed...

  • WiFi issue - Software or Hardware

What do you guys think? Is the WiFi issue software-related or hardware-related?
It seems like this might be a guess a best, but are there any experts out there willing to give a thought?

I don't discount the possibility that some users have had hardware problems, but I encountered a puzzling failure that turned out to be software (iPad Safari). I bought a new 64 GB iPad on April 10th. At home I have two WiFi routers - one is the AT&T U-Verse gateway, and the other (connected to the U-Verse) is a Time Capsule. I had no problem accessing either of these with iPad (they require passwords). There were no dropouts, good signal, and I could switch back and forth between them without any problem.
Monday, I brought the iPad to work. We have a number of private networks and one guest WiFi network. The WiFi routers are everywhere in the building (every 200 feet or so), and signal is excellent. The protocol I use for my iPhone (that connects just fine) is to connect with the guest WiFi network and then open a browser. The browser is redirected to another URL webpage where I have to accept the terms of use. On the iPhone or a MacBook, this is no problem and works reliably. When I opened Safari on the iPad it instantly gave an error message that Safari could not connect because the network connection was dropped. I did the usual troubleshooting steps including resetting the network and eventually restoring the iPad software/firmware. There was no change in behavior, and I could not connect. By the way, the WiFi icon did not even flicker when the Safari error message appeared. Checking the network connection, it was clear that there were multiple DNS servers that were obtained by DHCP.
So... I tried getting help from Apple Support. After two very nice phone calls, my problem remained unsolved. I was finally directed to bring the iPad back to the Apple Store for a Genius Bar appointment (did they suspect a hardware problem?). Yesterday afternoon, the representative tested my iPad in the Apple Store (no problem). He then brought it near an AT&T WiFi router (Starbucks) and - bingo - encountered the same problem I did.
I know this is turning out to be a very long tale, but the issue turned out to be a lack of legacy compatibility in the HTML5 implementation in Safari for the iPad. My iPad couldn't complete redirection to the agreement website because that website used incompatible HTML code (thanks AT&T). No problem linking to the same site with an iPhone.
I was promised that this issue would be addressed by Apple in an upcoming release (somewhere in the future). In the meantime, the solution was to use the simpler Opera browser to establish the link.
Problem diagnosed. Many thanks to the Apple Genius (Ryan) who was able to identify the problem.
    It was software!
Now it is Apple's turn to provide all of us with a fix.
