Before I sell my iMac?

I recently upgraded to a new iMac, but the old one still works. I've gone thru and deleted my business and personal files. Then did a secure empty trash. Erased the external HD. Is there anything else I should do before I sell it for my protection?

Ken,
By erase and install, I was referring to booting from the distribution disk that came with your Mac and using disk utility to erase the Mac's HD. Then proceed with the installation process up to the point it reboots and presents a welcome screen just like a new system. Then turn the system off.
This Will erase all the programs except those that come with the OS.

  • What must be done before I sell my iMac?

I recently bought a new iMac and migrated everything to my new iMac from my old iMac.  Now if I sell my old iMac what must be done to it so that my personal information is not left on it?

I recommend you to erase the hard disk using a Disk Utility's security option and reinstall Mac OS X. If your iMac came with DVDs:
    1. Insert the OS X disc and press C key when your Mac starts.
    2. Go to Utilities > Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD, go to Erase tab and erase the disk. If you want, press Security Options and select one of them, but the erase will take more time.
    3. Close Disk Utility and install Mac OS X. When it finishes, turn off your Mac

    I don't think you're on iOS 5, I think you're using iOS 6.  That's the latest version.
Unless you've used iCloud to back up your documents, you won't be able to restore them.  And for future reference, you don't have to uninstall Pages to update your iPad anymore.  Sorry about this.

  • My iPhone 4 has a cracked screen that I cannot see anything on it. I want to clear my pictures off of it before I sell it. I plugged it into my Surface RT, but I cannot download iTunes and I cannot unlock my phone. How can I get my pictures off my phone?

I have a cracked iPhone 4. It still works, but the body is cracked and I cannot see the screen. I want to get my pictures off before I sell it. I have a Microsoft Surface RT and cannot download iTunes, and I cannot unlock my phone because I cannot see the screen. Any suggestions?

The solution would have been to back up your photos to your computer before the screen broke.
It's too late now.  But you'll know for next time.

How do I return a MacBook Pro to Factory Setting and Delete all Passwords and Files before I sell the Computer?

    How old is your Mac?
What version of OS X came on it originally?
You must return it to the version of OS X that came on it originally before you sell it.

  • Do I have to do anything else besides restore my iPod Classic before I sell it?

I am planning to sell my iPod Classic on eBay and want to make sure I don't miss any details before I sell it. Don't want the eventual buyer to have any issues.

Yes the Restore will erase everything and put the iPod to factory defaults.
Of course, being conscientious, you may want to do a Disk Diagnostic, and tell the buyer the health of the Hardisk. Refer to this post by tt2.

If the health is good you will get more interested buyers.
    Good Luck!

We are having problems with the forum software (I can't see any new thread), so you are very lucky if somebody reads your question. Personally, the forum are near unusable for me now.
Respecting to that question, you want to delete everything but leave Office. Is this correct? If so, you will have to contact with Microsoft to see if it's legal to sell your Mac with Office installed > http://www.microsoft.com/mac/support I would not sell the Mac with Office installed.
To delete everything, you will have to erase the drive and reinstall OS X. Normally, you should turn off the Mac after reinstalling OS X, but in this case, the new owner won't have Office. On the contrary, if you install Office, the owner will have to use the Mac with your settings, so there will be other steps to follow

  • I want to sell my IMac G5 -

I want to sell my IMac G5 - OS X 10/3/9.  how do I clean off my personal information?

Throw any files containing sensitive data away, securely empty the Trash, and then use a compatible Mac OS X install disk to erase the internal drive and install a new OS. Include the disk you used with it.

  • PLEASE help before I throw my iMac G4 out of the apartment window

    Hello Apple Experts.
I hope that you can help me out here before I throw my iMac G4 out of the apartment window!!!!
I am having major problems with my wireless connection on my iMac G4(Uses original Airport Card).
When I installed 10.4 the connection was just very weak and not all the bars on the Airport icon were highlighted.
Also, on occasions the connection was totally lost and the iMac didn't even see the base unit (non apple) whilst it was switched on.
Now that I upgraded to 10.4.10 (using the PPC combi update), the Imac does not see or connect to the base unit at all.
As far as I know the card and antenna is conneted properly as I followed the Apple set up guide.
I know that the base station is fine as I have another mac in the house that connects with no issues....
I am wondering if there is a general issues with the iMac G4's connecting wirelessly with the Airport Card.
It seems there maybe three problems here.
    1) There is an issues with the software update
    2) There is a problem with the Airport Card (although it is brand new)
    3) I need to configure someting to make it work!
Hope someone can help me here.
    Thanks for your time.

I'm getting the same problem. Probably since 10.4.10 but I can't be sure. I am have just been perplexed at why my other machines are working OK and my iMac G4 17" 1Ghz is having network problems. It has the original Aiport Extreme Card inside. I was Googling and saw a suggestion to delete all your "Network Locations" then start fresh. I've just tried that and I'm running a ping for a while to see how its performing. I think its improved but the signal read only 2 bars still when my MacBook Pro right next to it read 100%.
    Somebody must know something?

  • Before I sell my iphone

Hi, I have 3 iphones. An original 4gig iphone, which fell in water and does not function, a 3g 16 gb iphone and a new iphone 3gs.
I want to sell the two old phones on somewhere like ebay but I am nervous about someone getting my info. the 16GB iphone has been wiped and works great. I don't know if the serial number or anything else could harm me being linked to me somehow.
The old iphone is partially broken, I can't get to the screen that wipes the memory out but it seems a lot of people sell broken phones for parts. Only half of the screen works.
Anything I should know before I sell either of these so no one can get my info?
    Thanks

The serial number can't 'hurt' you or be linked to you. However, if you cannot access the phone to wipe it, and you have personal data stored on there, obviously that might pose a risk depending on what the data are. Can you connect that phone to iTunes and sync it? If so, perform a Restore, setting up as new. For added security, you can completely fill it with music. Then remove the music, then completely fill it again. Doing that a total of three times will overwrite the flash memory contents of the phone, laborious but the only way to wipe it.

  • Where can i sell my imac?

Where can i sell my Imac?

There are several ways to sell. You can list it on eBay. You can join LEM-Swap for buying & selling Mac stuff. http://groups.google.com/group/lemswap After you join, post a FS (For Sale). List it on your local Craig's List - http://www.craigslist.com/ One advantage of Craig's list is that it can be pick-up, instead of costly shipping & a buyer can check it out.

  • Sell the iMac

    hi everyone,
I have my (first mac) 21,5" iMac now for a month and a half, and I love it.
but now, that I have the Opportunity to gain some money in summer I wondered if it was possible for me to sell my iMac as refurbished and then pay some extra to get a 27" one.
do I have to buy the AppleCare Protection Plan.
    jakob

Apple won't buy it back from you; however, there are some authorized resellers (at least here in the US) that will accept your Mac as a trade-in and then apply that money to the purchase of a new one. They will offer you less because they want to make money selling it, but that way you don't need to sell it yourself. But I don't know if there are resellers in Germany offering this service.
Auf jeden Fall, viel Glück beim Verkauf!

Apple does have a Reuse and Recycling Program. See http://www.apple.com/recycling/gift-card/
    An extract:
Apple finds efficient ways to reuse and recycle electronic equipment, including iPhone, iPad, Mac or PC computers, and displays. You may even get an Apple Gift Card for your old equipment.
