Before I sync apps, how do I tell if they'll run on iPad

All the apps I have now are ones I bought for the iPhone 4, since I do not have an iPad...yet (thanks to low supplies on Friday!). I realize that the apps will run, but not full screen or optimized for iPad unles they are "Universal", is that right? But how do I look at the apps I have now and tell which ones are universal apps?
Also, should I avoid syncing certain apps that incorporate GPS since I am just getting the WIFI iPad? Any advice which ones just won't work at all?

I just looked at my iTunes. Menu choices at the top of the pane are "Apps" and "Genre." If you select "Apps," the pane will have very obvious groupings. The groupings are:
iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad apps +--- these are the "universal" apps+
iPhone and iPod Touch apps +--- these apps were not designed for the iPad but will work on the iPad and will have the 2X sizing option that I mentioned previously+
iPad apps +--- these apps work only on the iPad+

You can see which apps are open and/or recently used by double-clicking the home button to bring up the taskbar at the bottom of the screen (not all apps that appear there are active) - you can then close apps on it by pressing and holding one of them for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar. If you have an app 'open' on-screen then it won't appear on the taskbar, you will need to go back to the homescreen first, and it should then show when you next open the taskbar.

iPod touch version 4.2.1, how can I tell if programs are running in the background. Battery is dead quickly and time/date reverts to Dec 31, 1969. can see thin silver frame around screen like something is running in background.

You really can't tell unless you hear music or similar. Many are always listening for notifications and other things.

You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

You can guess by how far along the little circle is.
Or you can try out a utility app that tracks your downloads for you.

ITunes 11.0.2 is forcing me to sync apps from my iPhone into my Mac AGAIN. This is the new version of iTunes so there is no option to uncheck syncing Apps- how do I stop it from copying apps into my Mac?

I'm using iTunes 11.0.2 on my Macbook Air running Lion, to sync with my iPhone 5. With this latest release of iTunes, there's no option to uncheck syncing of apps. For a while now, iTunes have been working fine- it didn't sync apps from my iPhone to my Mac... until this morning. I only have Podcasts sync checked and every day, I just plug in my iPhone and click Sync and it worked great- it only copied my podcasts to the phone.
Today, I did the same thing- downloaded new podcasts, plugged in my phone, and clicked Sync. It backed up my data, copied my podcasts, and THEN it starts to copy all the apps from my iPhone into my Mac. This is the first time it's doing this- I'm sure the team removed that feature from this latest iTunes and I think this is a bug. I unchecked the Apps checkbox from Library in Preferences- I click sync, and again it starts to sync all the apps, AND the Apps checkbox becomes checked again.
I've restarted iTunes many times and rebooted, didn't work.

I have the same problem on both my iPad and my iPhone and it also started with iTunes 10.0.2.

for purchases from the iTunes store do this:
connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.

How do you tell whether you are on an iPad or an iPhone?

HOw does one tell the hardware you are running on, iPhone vs. iPod Touch vs. iPad? and how does one do this in such a way that it won't break later on as later revisions of the iPhone etc are released. Does apple have a generic + specific hardware coding system? Remember the old Carbon Gestalt() calls?

TS1447 I always get an error that says 3 items could not be synced after an Itunes sync. How do I know what they are and what to do bat them

I geta message after attempting to sync with Itunes that says 3 items could not be synced. How do I know what these 3 items are? What should I do about this?

I updated to iOS 5.0.1 days ago and didn't receive that notification until just now...
This time I synced new photos I took yesterday, and it gave me the:
"iTunes Sync: 54 items could not be synced. See iTunes for more information"
Perhaps it kicks off when new items get synced.
I've decided to rent a movie yesterday. Once it gets deleted, I'm curious to see if it jumps to 55 items.

Downloaded latest iTunes-64 bit edition (using I.E) on my Vista Ultimate 64-bit PC. When iTunes is launched how can I tell which version I am running? (I initially installed the 32-bit version long ago).

iTunes is a 32bit application.
The only difference is the 64bit installer includes the drivers needed for Vista 64.

My start up disk is almost full and seems to have lots of files in other how can i tell what they are

I keep getting the message saying that my start up disk is nearly full and I have been deleting as many files as I can but now I find that actually it isn't my photos which I thought it might be, I have no music, videos or movies downloaded and just a small amount of document files. It seems that I have 91.56 GB of files in 'other' does anyone know what they might be and how I find out what they are?

I downloaded IOS7 on my iPad, when I use any of the apps i cannot cancel them since they are running and consuming the battery. I was able to cancel before

Before i was able to use an app then cancel so the app is still not running, so the battery would not drain. Since I downloaded the IOS7 how do I stop the apps from running when I am done with the app.

How does one tell if they have full access to page creation/editing tools?

I have an application that was built by someone else. The pages link via parameters to PL/SQL Packages/Procedures/Functions. Now I need to do minor enhancements/corrections and am learning Oracle and OAS as I go. I have read parts of Oracle OAS Portal Handbook from Oracle Press among many other things.
Providers have queries, Portlets use Providers. Creators of pages make the connection from Portlets to information if they have permissions.
The base application in question uses almost exclusively Dynamic Pages. There are no forms. These pages contain all possible manner of item content. I get the idea that editing is possible using only the portal tools but I am unsure. A PDK is not an option unless it is part of the OAS tool we currently use. I need to stay pure Portal and PL/SQL.
I suspect the 'portal' user does not have all rights on my system because I do see an over abundance of editing Icons as shown in the OAS Portal Handbook. Is there a website, book, or simple explanation of how/where to access the editing tools for individual items such as creating/editing/deleting a drop-down box from a dynamic page? It seems that Portlet items just 'appear' in the examples, and nothing I've read really talks about how to specify what you want to see on a page or how to edit a page that already exists.

To answer your question: no, not really. However, the points that I made here were about Safari and accompanying utilities, not about Apple in general.
If it makes you feel any better, I am just as, or even more, critical of Micro$oft as the occasions arise...Windoze Vista is the most recent occasion and has given sufficient reasons and opportunities to vent my spleen that I actually have eased up on Apple, politicians, nut-case religious extremists, cell phone owners, and the Department of Homeland Paranioa, etc., due to an exhaustion of creative energy.
