Before installing iTunes 7 or upgrading iPod...

...Backup your iTunes library.
Either back it up to CD, DVD, or external hard drive.
I was fortunate, I installed iTunes 7 on three different boxes, all XP. I also upgraded 5th Gen 30Gb iPod and 4Gb Nano to 1.2 through iTunes 7 all without any issues. HOWEVER, before I did any of this, I backed up my entire library. I have about 20Gb of music, and didn't want to lose any of it.
I've read LOTS of posts here where people say that they have lost all of their purchased music. Don't let it happen to you! Back up that library BEFORE you do any upgrades.

Anyone else had this problem, come on...............

I've stopped and started the service, and also have performed cold reboots.

  • Optical drive no longer available before installing iTunes

Before installing iTunes and reeboting the computer, the optical drive dissapears from the system. It´s neccesary to reinstall the operating system to have access to it.
I believe that Roxio´s Easy CD Creator and iTunes may have any kind of conflict.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

If you have XP you can use this : http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scriptsdesc/xp_cd_dvdfix.htm
but actually, unless you have some compelling need for Roxio I suggest you dump it.
If XP and iTunes can't handle all your burning needs then a program like Imgburn or CDburnerXP can be use in addition.

  • You cant open the application " read before install itunes" because it is not supported on this architecture

You can either burn it to a CD or DVD from within iTunes, or back up the entire iTunes library as you would any other folder.

  • Can't install itunes 10.5, and ipod touch 4g getting 1604 and1601 errors.

Hi. Okay let me explain my dilemma, and please try to hold on. Alright, so last year when i first got my ipod touch 4g, I jailbroke it with LimeRain from Limerain.com. 3 days ago, i decided to delete a facebook app on my ipod, and then decided to re-install it. While the app was re-installing, it froze. I turned off my ipod, and tried turning it back on, and it got stuck on the limerain skull. I left it for about 20min and nothing happened. I realized that somthing was wrong and I would have to restore it. I went to my computer, and tried to restore it back to factory settings. I first got a 1601 error. I then used IREB to try and fix it, but that didn't work, and I started to get a 1604 error. At the time i had itunes version 10. I was told i needed to update it, so i tried to. It wouldn't let me. It kept giving me this: "An error occured during the installation of assembly'Mircosoft.vc80.crt, type="win 32". Version="8.0.50727.6196", public key token....etc.........". i then uninstalled all of itunes off my computer and tried re-installing it. Now I can't even install itunes whatsoever because i keep getting the same error as before. PLEASE HELP ME! :'(!

Try this approach as it worked in my situation.  Just a shot-
I found msicuu2.exe (Windows Installer Cleanup Utility) for free and used that tool to remove iTunes from my machine and then reinstalled iTunes. This fixed my problem.  Microsoft use to have the tool on their site to download and no longer do (I can only assume since it was so easy to use that people removed things they shouldn't have and it became to big a pain for Microsoft to deal with).  With that said, I was able to find the tool at another site.  It was an easy fix after I installed the cleanup utility and I had iTunes reinstalled in minutes.
Was getting errors due to a previous windows installer package corrupted and not deleted. (last itunes update). Download from the internet and run this program selecting Itunes to be removed.  (you won't lose your music content), then restart your computer.  When you restart re-download Itunes 10.5.3  and reinstall.  It will automatically reload a non corrupted installer package and will go find all your music, files, etc. to restore by itself.  No problems what so ever resinstalling and getting all my stuff to add to my new Touch afterwards.
note:  I spent hours researching this issue and it worked in my case.  Hopefully it helps-

  • I am trying to put the music from my ipod onto my new computer. After installing itunes and connecting my ipod touch a message comes up saying that my ipod is already synced with another library. What can I do to sync it with a new library?

I recently got a new computer and got rid of my old one. I am trying to put the music from my ipod touch onto my new computer but keep getting a message saying that my ipod is already synced with a library and cannot be synced with more than one. How do I access that library on my new computer and if I can't are their other ways for me to put the music on my ipod into my new computer?

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPod for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • After Installing iTunes 7.0.2 iPod Updater No Longer Works

So I installed iTunes 7.0.2 which seems to be running fine (although my Shuffle playlist seems to have disappeared!), but if I try launching the iPod Updater 2006-01-10 I get a message saying "iPod Universal Updater has encountered a problem and needs to close" everytime I launch it. No idea why I'm getting this..any suggestions?

The iPod Updaters are not required (and will not work) after updating to iTunes 7. If everything else is working normally on your computer, then all you need to update and sync content to any iPod is iTunes 7 and a network connection. So yes, you can remove all the older updaters.

  • Shuffle Update after installing iTunes 5.x and iPod 1.1.2

I installed iTunes 5.0.1.4 and ran the iPod Updater 2005-09-23 and now my iTunes will not update the songs on my iPod Shuffle (it actually erased my songs). I have totally uninstalled iTunes and the Updater 2005-09-23 and re-installed them per another post on the forum. Prior to installing the new iTunes everything was working okay. I should also mention that the amber and green lights flash when I try to play anything - i.e. maybe the iTunes download was coincidental and not the problem. Any insight or help would be appreciated.

    I have tried the following:
    1) Uninstalled the iPod Updater.
    2) Uninstalled iTunes 5.0.x
    3) Rebooted
    4) Deleted the C:\Program Files\iPod folder
    5) Reinstalled iTunes 4.7.x from my IPS install CD
    6) Reinstalled the iPod software from the CD
In the middle of the reinstall of the Windows iPod software it asks you to connect the IPS to see if it needs formated. It recognized my iPod and said that it did in fact need to be formated. I gave it the Ok and it came back telling me that it had trouble communicating with the IPS and to disconnect and reconnect. I did so, same story again.
It seems that iTunes 5 and the latest updater hosed the IPS hardware or firmware somehow. Needless to say, I'm not happy.

  • Error when installing iTunes. Cannot connect iPod Touch

I recently bought an iPod Touch. When I install iTunes, I get the following error-
"An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'microsoft.vc80.CRT', Public Key Toke='1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b',Type='Win32', version='8.0.50727.762' HRESULT: 0x8007054F"
Because of this error, the installer is unable to install Apple Mobile Device Center, and I am unable to synch my iPod Touch. I have spoken to Apple support numerous times with no success. They finally referred me to Microsoft. Microsoft refers me back to Apple, and there is nothing I can find online regarding the error.
    Please help!

It does seem to look more like a Microsoft error than an Apple/iTunes error... have you tried installing iTunes in a new user account? If not, go into your Control Panel > User Accounts and follow the instructions to create a new admin account. Once you've created it, restart the PC and log in to it. See if you can download and install iTunes there.

  • Can't install iTunes 9 on Vista. iPod services have stopped?

I can't installed iTunes 9 on my Windows Vista PC. When I try to install, the installation process gets to about 95% complete, then an error pops up saying "Serice 'iPod Sevice' (iPod Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start the service". I also get a Windows System error that says "iPod service module (64-bit) stopped working and was closed". I can't install iTunes 9 and can't find any answers. And yes, I'm installing iTunes as the system Admin. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

My problem is with Vista, but slightly different to the above.
I bought a new Vista PC yesterday and was able to download iTunes 8 to it.
I'm also still using my old XP PC until I get the Vista one properly set up. Last night I ran all iTunes/iPhone/iPod Touch updates successfully on the XP machine.
Today I am updating the Vista PC. Safari and Quick Time have downloaded.
iTunes itself reaches 98.7 of 98.8 verified and then fails.
The error message I am getting is ""The windows installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance"
I have no idea what that means, does any Vista user know what the Windows Installer Service is and how I sort this out?
There is a pop appearing occasionally about setting up 'winlock' - I have no idea what that is (need to google to find out) so have ignored that until I understand what it is.
I've tried both running direct from the download and saving to my PC but still the same error message. Odd that the program installed yesterday but the updated version will not do so today.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

  • I recently got a new computer and installed itunes, i connected my ipod and it has some songs that i downloaded legally from my other computer, if i sync my ipod..will i lose the songs downloaded? thanks

yeah please answer the question..i downloaded songs on my other computer and they are on my ipod but do not show up on my itunes because they are not downloaded..will i lose the songs if i sync my ipod?

    Yes.
You need to copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.
You can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod:  File>transfer Purchases

  • HT4759 Do I have to install iCloud before installing iTunes

I have been trying to uninstall/reinstall iTunes for two weeks.  I am presently trying to reinstall all components of iTunes now.  I was doing it in order.  But I cannot install the version of iCloud that I had.  They said to get an updated version for Windows 8.  But I can't find it.  How do I do that?  Thank you anybody/everybody!  I am presently in the process of losing my mind.

The iPad cannot install iTunes. Its preinstalled by default and part of the OS.
If you are trying to install iTunes on a computer then the forum for that would be:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/itunes
In any case, you do not need to install iCloud on a computer to install iTunes.
You may need a newer version of iTunes from here through:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
For iCloud on Windows you need to install iCloud Control Panel.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1455
It is not required for iTunes however.

  • Message before installing 7.0.2 upgrade

I had upgraded twice to itunes 7.0.2 and the same message appears before all done.
    cannot unable ipod service.
The installation never finishes because of this alert.
    What i'm doing wrong?

Running 10.3.9 when I download itunes 7.0.2 there is no installer present although the entire file appears to have been downloaded. Judging from other posts here, I may be fortunate. But I would like to share libraries with others on my network who are using iT7. I'm not especially eager to upgrade to OS10.4., my hard drive is already maxed out. Should I let this sleeping dog lie? iT6 works for most of my needs?
Niel, I'm tempted to follow your workaround, but I'm concerned why such a fix should be necessary. Is there a deeper problem for which I should allow Apple more time to straighten it out? I'm a bit risk averse in this regard, although my library is safely backed up externally.

  • What am I doing wrong? Can't install iTunes due to old iPod software

Hi - iTunes will not install - error message says it can't upgrade old iPod software and it should be uninstalled. I had an old 2ndGen iPod and I have removed everything to do with that (Musicmatch, quicktime, iPod manager (although teh latter proved difficult as it wouldn't delete from Program Files - got rid of it and then when I reinstalled everything in order to uninstall again to see if that would fix, it now wont delete at all) etc.) and have been through all the windows installer clean-ups and everything else on the support page.
Has anyone else encountered this - would really appreciate help as doing my head in! Its so I can use new Nano.
    Thx.
