Before upgrading iPhone to 3.0 beta a few basic questions!

We have a few apps up in the store, and I want to upgrade them, so I suppose I need to upgrade my iPhone now to the beta 3.0 firmware.
Before doing so, I'd like to ask those who have gone before me a few simple questions.
(1) I don't have anything on my iPhone that is earth-shatteringly important. But if I need to, can I restore to OS 2 and get my old email settings and apps back?
(2) What does updating to the beta 3.0 firmware really mean? Will I get to preview all the core OS 3.0 apps, including the search features, new Camera, Mail and Safari apps, etc.? If so, that sounds like fun.
(3) What happens when I synch with iTunes while the beta 3.0 firmware is installed? Will normal synch still work?
Thanks for any tips or advice on this. I can't afford to get another iPhone device just to maintain my current apps.

I recommend that you check manage subnet and vlan mapping at the CAS the problem could be located at that level.

  • If I upgrade to Mountain Lion on the computer that will install it, will my WIFI still work on the computer that cannot be upgraded? I know this is a very basic question

If I upgrade to Mountain Lion on the computer that will install it, will my WIFI still work on the computer that cannot be upgraded? I know this is a very basic question. Trying to hold out as long as I can, but purchasing an iPhone for Christmas and new iMac next year when warrently expires.

Thank U very much for the quick reply, I wanted to upgrade this weekend, but still on the fence. I can live with the software that is not compatible, they are on another compuetr, just didn't want the obvious stuff to stop working.

  • A few (basic) questions about the iPhone

I just got my iPhone 3GS about a week ago. I am very new to the whole smartphone arena, so some of my questions my seem stupid. Please be kind regardless.
I've learned a lot about the iPhone by trial and error (pressing buttons to see what happens) but one thing I just discovered was the multitasking bar. When I accessed it, I saw every app I had run since I got the phone displayed in the multitasking bar. And I know that by holding the icons on the bar, you can bring up a red minus sign, touch it, and remove that app from the bar. My question is, are all of those apps displayed in the mutltasking bar constantly running in the background, and thus, draining more battery than necessary?
Secondly, on the topic of wifi. I have my phone set to automatically join known networks and ask me to join unknown networks that it detects. However, it doesn't seem to be doing that. I still have to manually go to settings and search for the network. It will automatically join my home network (for example, when I go somewhere and come home, it will switch back to my home network automatically), but it won't do this with, for example, the wifi network at McDonald's even though I did go through the setup and make that network a known network. Am I mistaken in thinking the phone should do this automatically, or do I have to search for the network every single time? Also, since I have "ask to join networks" checked, will it automatically detect nearby networks, or do I also have to manually search for those? I understand this question may be confusing, so I can try to clarify if need be.
My last question is concerning conserving the battery. I currently have both wifi and 3G active on my phone, and I have read conflicting reports of which one drains more battery. Some say to turn off 3G and keep wifi, others say vice versa. I'm at home a lot so I'm always near my home wifi network and don't need 3G for data transfer unless I'm out and about. So is it better to turn 3G off unless I leave? I'm just trying to do whatever I can to conserve battery because I've noticed that the battery drains quite rapidly.
Sorry for the long post, I just wanted totry and clear those things up. I hope you can help me. Thanks in advance.

Only the last 4 apps to be run are actually active and in RAM. The others are swapped out to flash memory in a saved state (i.e you should be able to resume where you left off, if the app is written to support that). They don't therefore drain battery. I close all apps down from time to time (every few days) just to keep things neat.

It should automatically list new networks when (a) you're in range and (b) you try to connect to the internet (e.g. browse to a web page or check for email)

The issue is not which drains more battery, but which you need to connect to the internet. Where you have wifi access, switch off 3G, where you have 3G, switch off wifi.

  • A few basic questions before I buy 5800 express

U.S.A. user. Thank you in advance,
    a. do I need Outlook or similar to easily transfer contacts and calendar/tasks etc to/from pc? Can I simply, every night, bluetooth/usb to my phone and update everything on my pc?
    b. will the gps work with no data plan?
    c. The issues users are experiencing are very scary (hard reset? reload everything? wow!) how likely are these unbelievable problems to show up with the average user? [how can a company like Nokia even release a product with those issues?]

    a. It would depend if the format is compatible. You can use the included Ovi Suite though to convert your contacts and sync them into the phone.
    b. Yes, but it would cost you still as per network charges regarding data, which may be expensive. Also if you turn off A-GPS, I believe that it would be free, however you may have to wait for forever to get a fix, as mobile phones have pretty small GPS antennae and may have difficulties getting and maintaining fixes in certain places.
    c. I bought mine last June and no issues so far. Most issues have been with earlier batches. As a rule, I advice not to buy a symbian phone until at least 6 months after release due to both hardware and software issues. Its not just Nokia symbian phones. This includes those made by samsung and the most recent SE satio which has firmware issues as well from what I gather. Its a symbian thing.

  • Any iPhone 4S users experienced better battery life after upgrading to iOS 7.1?

    Hello
I am curious to know if any iPhone 4S users experienced better battery life compared to iOS 7.x.x.? That will be great to know before I upgrade and give up my JB .
    Thanks!

Really, that's quite an assertion. I'm sure you can prove those stats; but  my apologies,  I forgot that Apple produces flawless product.
I can only report MY SYMPTOMS: iPhone 4S 32M on VZW, upgrade to iOS 7.0 at the end of February (when security flaw was announced), after which my battery life is about 1/2 what it used to be before the upgrade.
Also, as reported above, when I upgraded to iOS 7.0 my phone would lock (in phone mode); had uncommanded  reboots; and severely degraded battery life.  Two days ago, upgraded to iOS 7.1.  Most screen "touch" issues appear resolved; and uncommanded reboots resolved.
Battery life / duration still poor; still charging every 4-5 hours.
Previously with  normal use (with no location services) could run a full day, about 8 hours before recharge. Now, same situations, I'm having to recharge after 4-5 hours.  Again, no new apps, all apps are current; no different usage.
    What's the resolving fix?

  • HT1766 I want to restore my iPhone to the backup I did just before upgrading to iOS6. Today's sync/backup erased most of my contacts and almost all of my phone numbers within the remaining contacts.  No iCloud backup because of other issues still to resol

I want to restore my iPhone to the backup that I did just before upgrading to iOS6.  When I try to pull up old backups, I only see one from this morning and an old one from May 2012 when I still had my iPhone 3GS.  I have not been using iCloud since it was set up improperly when I first switched to the 4S, the contacts weren't being synced AT ALL.  visited the genius bar, they said I need a whole other appointment to visit them and solve that, I haven't had a chance to do that yet.  Thus, I am backing up to iTunes.
This morning's sync/backup resulted in me losing most of my contacts, and for the contacts that remain, 99% of the phone numbers are gone.  I can recover my calendar entries from this past week, but I don't know how I can recover all of them from my May 2012 backup.
Since I had a backup just last week, I'd like to just go back to it.  But how?  Or, is there another way to get my contacts restored?  And why did they disappear?  And what else may be gone that I just don't know about yet?

No. I've given you your answer. Buy from an un-official source, and you take your chances. And yes, if your phone was hacked to unlock it(common from un-official sources), it will be locked back to the carrier it was originally locked to if you update software or restore the phone.

  • HT6378 I "upgraded" to iCloud Photo Library (Beta), my 2000+ pictures between my iphone/ipad has now become 85 photos.  Where are the other 1900 pictures--not in the deleted folder?

I upgraded to iCloud Photo LIbrary (Beta) today but my 2000+ pictures have now become 85 pictures on the iCloud/iPhone & iPad.  The pictures are not in the deleted folder.  These "pictures" were NOT normal with prior IOS upgrades.  I could not delete them.  Where have all of these pictures gone?

Ok, so here's a solution to this issue:
Backed up my iPhone on iTunes
Did a factory reset on iPhone
Restored the thing from previous backup
Re-entered all my passwords and such
    Now it's syncing again.
The whole procedure took me about two hours.
No idea why this happened. Beta, I guess.

  • Iphone 3gs backup before upgrade

    Hey guys, hope you well
I just recently turned on my iphone 3gs since 2010 & It shows me the usb and itunes screen. Most likely it needs an upgrade on the IOS software
The problem is that I have over 2000 pictures, contacts and my text messages. If I upgrade the software , this will all be deleted
Can anyone advise me if there is a way in which I can retrieve the lost data before upgrading the IOS software?
    Thank you
    Mohammad Faizal

Too late.   The iTunes with USB graphic indicates your phone is in recovery mode, and would need to be fully restored to be usable again.
Whatever was on the device is lost forever.

To get iOS 7 you must be in the paid Apple Developer Program. iOS 7 will be released to the public this fall.

  • HT1420 Before upgrading to an iPhone 5

Do you have to deactivate iTunes on an iPhone 4 before upgrading to an iPhone 5?
Thanks in advance for your response.

You won't need a new SIM card for the iPhone 4S; the SIM card in that phone is for when you are traveling abroad.  Once you have your iphone 5 activated and you're ready to activate the 4S on your wife's line, dial *228, option 1.

  • I actualize the iPhone and left without wifi, I need a solution as it worked perfectly before upgrading.

update the iPhone and left without wifi, I need a solution as it worked perfectly before upgrading.

    Have you check the following?
Verify that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings
Ensure that your device is using the latest software.
If your issue is still unresolved, perform a software restore in iTune

Upgrading the OS does not remove your apps and purchases.
