"Before you can perform print-related tasks...,you need to install a printer"

I have Windows XP SP3.  I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.  I've never had a problem printing a pdf file before.  My printer is a year old and all other applications print without problems.  Suddenly, I am unable to print pdf's.  Any suggestions?

Please  verify  if you're Acrobat 9  is updated to  9.4.2 by  checking the version at  Help > About Acrobat  9 Pro
If  it  is Acrobat 9.4.2 then  do  the the  following....
the fast and easy way:
1.) go to the installation directory of Acrobat (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat)
2.) Look for the file "Adobe.Acrobat.Dependencies.manifest"; do  a right click (open with)  then  select from the list  of programs -  choose Wordpad;
3.) Delete the line <file name="atl.dll" /> then  click  on the Save button
4.) Reboot your machine after saving that file
This should fix the issue of being unable to print PDF file after installing 9.4.2 update for Adobe Acrobat.

  • Can't print: "Before you can perform print-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document,

    Hello,
I have searched these forums but have not found a solution to my problem.
I recently purchased an IOGear USB Print Server (print server only, not USB device server). I was having issues installing and followed a Microsoft support document to try and resolve the issue. It had me remove some entries from the registry.
Hours later, I was able to get the printer installed and working, but I do not know if it was a result of the registry tweak. But now that it has been installed, I cannot get anything to print from Acrobat Reader (I have tried 7.0 and 8.1.1). I get the following error message:
"Before you can perform print-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer."
Is there something I should check in the registry to make sure that it will work? I do know for sure that it was working when it was just the printer and drivers installed, it only happened after running the print server setup. I have already tried removing the printers and drivers from the system.
    Thanks,
    Braden

I have a problem similar to those posted here, with one difference. With my printers newly installed, regardless of which one is selected as the default, when I try to print from Adobe Reader I receive the error message we're talking about : "Before you can perform a print related task...."
    Here's the fun part.
If I click OK on the message, ALL MY PRINTERS GET DELETED and, I get the windows message that "Spooler subsystem app has encountered a problem and needs to close"! If instead of clicking OK I switch to Task Manager and end Adobe, I'm fine and can print from other programs.
I can "reset" the problem by deleting the files in C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Printers and C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Drivers\w32x86, restarting the machine, and deleting then reinstalling the printers (which show up again after the restart).
BUT, if I try to print from Adobe Reader again, I get the same cycle of problems.
I am running Windows Vista and Adobe Reader 8.1

  • Error Message: "Before you can perform print-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document

    Hi,
I got the next error message for a pdf document: “Before you can perform print-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer"
    Info:
    - version: 10.1.3
    - Default printer: Epson SX110 Series
    - Document: Security properties: Printing allowed - all other security properties: not allowed
    - Same document without security, does print without any problems.
    thanks for quick solution

    Hi,
My printer is correctly installed. I can print other pdf documents without any problem (even the same document if the security settings are not set).
    best regards

  • Photoshop CS4 - Windows XP Pro - Message reads: 'Before you can perform printer related tasks .... you need to install printer.

All of a sudden, my CS4 Photoshop will not print. It gives me the message "Before you can perform printer-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer." What has happened? I cannot get into any of the print or page setup menus to change preferences so where do I go from here?

I just updated my Canon MG3500 series printer driver through Canon support. Printer worked fine, but I could not print from Photoshop.
I followed all the links and the instructions on the Adobe help site, but could not go past the "Print" box in my Photoshop CS4, so none of the other information could be applied.
I could open images in Adobe Illustrator, and print from that program, but 99% of my image work is in Photoshop.
    I found a link at http://yourbusiness.azcentral.com/printer-not-found-photoshop-cs4-11574.html
That information advised to locate the Photoshop CS4 Prefs.psp file and rename it to Prefs.psp.old, because when you recreate your preferences file, PhotoShop deletes the custom settings associated with the file.
It threw up a warning when I changed the name, but I figured I could always change it back. After shutting down the computer and printer, restarting both and opening Photoshop CS4 I was able to open the print dialog box and print photos again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Photoshop CS4: Before you can perform printer-related tasks ...

Scenario: I open two JPG files. Select one, and print it. Select the second, and get the message "Before you can perform printer-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer". Go back to the first, the print is fine.
It seems to be only with some files, size does not matter. These are JPGs, so what can be wrong?
This KB is no help, so any other ideas?

[Note that I was logged in under an obscure account when I started this thread]
Tried changing the default printer, same problem.
[LATER] SOLVED! It seems the problem is that the resolution and size of the image combine to create an image that would not fit in the printer, so Photoshop ask you to intall one that can print it. This is really dumb, as you can resize the printout. See this thread.

  • Before You Can Perform ... as we know

I'll make this uncomplicated. It's the 'before you can perform printer related tasks such as page setup or printing a document you need to install a printer'.
This happens with mostly Psd documents. On several other computers ( all exactly the same Hp, Printers, Software) there is no issue. I have to copy the file to a flash drive and print the document from the other HP 8200.
On this Hp 8200 there is a problem.
I performed Micosoft's suggested fixes and nothing worked.
I read all the articles relating to 'Before....' and nothing that I could administer helped.
Within Photoshop we have File > Print > Page Setup > Print One Copy. When I click on any print selection I get the error. Thus I can't proceed to selecting another printer.
I tried saving into Jpg, into Tif, and I cannot print. I flattened the layers that did not work.
    I uninstalled CS4 Creative Suite from Add/Remove.
    I uninstalled all Adobe applications.
I turned off non windows services and all start up programs.
I ran the Adobe Clean Script.
Then I reinstalled a fresh installation of CS4 Creative Suite. I did this with a new administrator credential.
All went smooth. That was - unexpected.
However, all the print issue I stated above are in evidence. I am unable to print.
I don't know what to do. These computers with CS4 Creative Suite are for our advertising department.
I am the computer tech here and they expect to work under normal conditions.
Running the finish Psd project from one computer to another is very awkward.
    Is there a rememdy?
    I am clueless, and helpless.
    Thanks
    Chuck M

The hard way is to boot in safe mode and delete all drivers and spool files in C:\Windows\System32\Spool. This might allow you to reinstall the printzer driver without any link to a previous isntall. It might just take several attempts and additional excursions to the printer panel and device manager to figure out port and USB stuff that may be relevant...

  • Print-related task error

How do I fix this error:
Before you can print-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer.
I have already have a printer on my computer.  I've deleted all drivers and reinsttalled the printer and still gets this error.  I've also, reinstalled Adobe Reader 10.1.4.
    Any help will be welcomed.

I would install version 11.0.2 but, there is another person on Adobe that posted that they are having issues with printing Adobe 11.0.2.  So, I think I'll try to install 10.1.6.  I wonder if there is a issue with Windows 7 and Adobe version 10 and 11.

  • Before you can perform print-related tasks such as page setup - Internet Explorer 8

I understand there have been similar threads on this but they all related to printing directly out of Acrobat reader rather than a browser.
On some machines when printing a PDF from within Internet Explorer the error "before you can perform print-related tasks such as page setup" is displayed and users are unable to print. I have removed printers, changed the default printer none of which have worked. If you change Acrobat reader to not display PDFs in Internet Explorer printing works fine.
    System Information
    Windows 7 Enterprise
    Acrobat Reader 9.3.0
    Internet Explorer 8
Any information regarding this would be appreciated.
    Cheers

This works in Photoshop cs4: SOLUTION!!! I get the same msg... "before you can perform..." etc. on some images that I've printed before but not on others. I haven't found the cause, but here's an easy WORKAROUND: Open your file, Select All, Copy, File>new, paste... and print away!!!

  • Went to work on my photos and  something pops up that says file off-line for missing. This has never happened before. Can someone help? thank you

"Went to work on my photos and something popped up that says, file 0ff-line or missing. This has never happened before. Can someone help? thank you!

This means that the photos (or the folders that contain them) have been moved, renamed or deleted outside of Lightroom. On Windows it can also mean the disk drive has changed letters.
To fix the problem see: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders

  • "If you can imagine it, you can create it. If you can dream it, you can become it." ?

Did Adobe many years ago use the say,
“If you can imagine it, you can create it.  If you can dream it, you can become it" as an ad campaign? I remember it so well and even had a bookmark that said something like that.
Does anyone remember this? Please let me know and also, if I am quoting the expression they used. Like I said, MANY YEARS AGO!!
    Ellen

That's how I found the quote I was looking for <> Googled to find the quote in the first place and then tried to find any "connection" with Adobe and the quote.
Years ago, Adobe was trying to show how whatever you could imagine, you could create using THEIR products. IE: Photoshop, Premiere, [didn't have Flash yet <> like I said, YEARS ago this ad campaign was], Illustrator etc..
Love the quote and at the time and esp. today, ALL of us can see the connection between our brains and the fabulous Adobe tools that can "put" our brains on paper and any product out there.
You can create whatever you imagine. Brilliant campaign.
Hope someone out there remembers this AD campaign. Am I showing my age here! LOL!!! Started using Photoshop with version 2.5 BEFORE LAYERS. And ONLY ONE UNDO!!!!
    Now, THAT WAS SCARY!!!!

  • How do you solve error "You can't use this version of the application Install Mac OS X.app with this version of Mac OS X" when trying to go back to leopard from lion?

Local Mac shop said to hold down "c" after inserting disk to get "disk utility" to come up in order to wipe hard drive.  I can't seem to get it to do this.

This W7 was purchased for using Fusion, as others did - per reviews from amazon.  The technician today called their contact at VMWare - Fusion not officially for use with Lion - even though I read at the VMWare support site that others have made it work.  Apparently my setup doesn't work.
Do you know how to do the proceedure for bringing up the disk utility when starting the disk?
BTW, some of the windows applications I want to continue using are Incredimail, Calendarscope, Stamps.com and a few others I have used over many years.  What do you use for email and calendar?
Wow, sounds like another reason to not use MS Windows.
Regarding your Disk Utility question, please elablorate I'm not sure what you're trying to do. Disk Utilty is just that...a utility, it's something most users never have to use especially on a new computer. Let me know what you're trying to do there before I give you some instructions.
As for as your Windows apps I would recommend using Mail and iCal, both come as part of OS X and are very robust tools. Don't discount the software built right into OS X it's very robust and powerful not all like the bloatware most Windows boxes ship with. Stamps.com well I'd look for another alternative. It's clear they don't support OS X which makes me a little suspicious that they're so behind the times.
Also if you have not been exposed to these links before I'd strongly recommend bookmarking them and using them. They're extermely useful!

  • When ever i go to watch videos on youtube or any other apps, the screen goes black. you can hear the video but you cant see anything. how do i fix this?

i have an ipod tough 3g and its like about 4 to 5 years old it works perfectly fine except the home button is abit messed up and the ipod sometimes crashes. but other than that everything is fine. so i was watching something on an app and then al of a sudden i dont see the video i can just hear it. i then think its just the app but when i go on youtube the same exact thing happens. you click to watch a video and you can hear it perfectly but you cant see anything. the screen is just black when u ONLY watch a video. this happened last night so yea.i really hope somebody can help me figure out how to fix this and whats wrongwith it:)
thanks for your time and help!

When it goes black do a very short press of the button on the right upper side of the phone and the screen will reappear.  Make it a very short quick press.
OTOH, if you are using the speaker so you can watch the screen as you are talking when it goes dim touch the screen anywhere that it is blank and it will again go bright.  On long calls you have to repeat this.
Many folks have had the same problem you described and what I have told you is the best and ONLY way around the screen going blank during a call.

The install icon has this sign on it

You can't install Lion over Leopard. To install Lion, a requirement is Snow Leopard. So you can either upgrade to Snow Leopard first or you can make a bootable Lion install disc and use that to wipe your hard drive and install a fresh copy of Lion.
So to make a disk would require you to purchase Snow Leopard and upgrade to 10.6.8 so you can use the App Store, unless you have access to another computer to download it from with your Apple ID. Remember it is about a 3.4GB download.

Try disabling your firewall and antivirus software and see if that helps - if you are trying to update using iTunes on your computer.

This is asked and answered often.  The forum search bar is on the right side of this page.
