Befw11s4 - moved, attached to a new computer

I've moved - since I have a MAC with airport, I've tried to hookup the router to my new roomate's computer (a MAC w/ no airport). Just plugging it in as before won't work, setting it up via 192.168.1.1 didn't seem to work (reset the router and and set the default settings)...actually... the router seemed to have problems before the move - twice i'd had to be taken through a new setup because the router ceased to work (and I was receiving no service, both wired and wireless, via the router...)

Hi..let me know the isp details and the router firmware version .. so that i could tell you the steps to reconfigure the router ..

I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, moved it to a new computer, reregistered, and am still unable to use any of the edit capabilities. Help?

We always like to know what solutions work. The other options that would cause problems include:
    1. the file is either secured or a PDF/A
    2. you need to update Acrobat (Help>Updates)

  • Moving PS to a new computer. Serial number does not work.

Moved PS to a new computer. Get the following error message when i try to enter serial number, "Serial Number you provided is valid but a qualifying product could not be found on this computer".

There should be an option to go to another screen where you enter the serial # from a qualifying previous version. So if you are installing CS6 you would need to enter the serial # from your older CS5 or maybe CS4. Same goes if you are installing CS5. You would need the serial # from CS4 or CS3.
Hopefully you still have the boxes from those older versions and or you recorded the serial # for them if you bought the Downloaded version.
If not then it is time to Upgrade to the subscription based PS CC or buy a Full version of CS6.

  • Moving Calendar to a New Computer & Moving Data: Downloads and Add-ons

Moving Calendar to a New Computer & Moving Data: Downloads and Add-ons
The handle says is all. Totally lost here & in a virtual house of cards. Please first see screen-shot.
I have the Mozilla calendar (Lightening?) program on my computer. Is this screen-shot Thunderbird or is it an add-on called Lightening that was added on to Thunderbird? I don't even recall how I acquired in a few years ago. Whatever it is I find in invaluable. Indispensable. Brilliantly conceived. A superb creation.
Notice that I have several calendars in different colors for different purposes and a long task agenda on the right. Wonderful program!! I absolutely love it! I can not afford to loose these calenders and this data. However, big caveat, entrusting my life (our lives) to it has become extremely dangerous for it's a virtual house of cards upon the purchase of a new computer. The move-over is more like a career most of us already have one. Need anyone really wonder why PC sales are down? Res ipsa loquitur.
    FIRST ISSUE:
I must move this/these Mozilla program/s and calendars over to the new computer but I don't have a clue where to begin. What must I download? Thunderbird? What must I add-on? Lightening? Is this a suite of programs? All I care about are my calendars and task agendas that you see in the screen-shot -- not any email programs etc. Just this personal management system that you see.
    SECOND ISSUE:
After I downloading, installing, and adding-on what I need, how do I then move (migrate) my profile (data) over to new computer?
Please know that I do know where that 'profile' and its .ics calendar profiles are stored. I am also well backed up. I just need to know how get (downloaded/install) what I need and move this over to the new computer. (See screen-shot)
First, what must I download and install and add on. Second how do I move this data/profile (a virtual Life) over to the new computer without it all coming down like a house of cards?
Please, unless it's all been documented in one location, a link to this and a link to that probably won't be very helpful. Anyone who can lay-out a simple, easy to follow plan (1, 2, 3, 4, done) will be a hero and make a significant contribution to people who dread buying a new computer for precisely these reasons. It will certainly encourage more people to use this absolutely wonderful personal management system. It's the best I've ever seen and I must keep it. But it's soooo risky.

Obviously the screen-shot is posted so show what I see now and want to see when I am done. Was the ''really ''not clear? Nothing could be more germane ("Germaine" is a person's name) than a visual that shows the multiple calendar dynamic and what I actually want to see nor better communicants the fact that all I want is that and not other programs in a suite – a question btw asked but not answered.
"I have no idea what the threshold issue is. Perhaps Zeno can assist you."
I now see Zeno's reply but I never got an email re: my questions and just noticed it. I will respond to him separately. But ''obviously ''the ''''threshold'''' issue is ISSUE ONE (1) exactly what, and only what, must I download and install.
Was that really not clear? That was not answered in your first reply. And since you here, later, state that Lightening does not need to be downloaded and installed how on earth could you presume the first threshold issue (question 1) was a joke?
Once again I wrote and you even quoted me “Please, unless it's ALL been documented in ONE LOCATION, a link to this and a link to that probably won't be very helpful. Anyone who can lay-out a simple, easy to follow plan (1, 2, 3, 4, done) ...”
As this exchange demonstrates, that statement has certainly proven to be correct.
You then wrote, “Read the question... the question is. How do I move my profile to a new computer? You are the one making much more of it than that. ... All covered in the link.”
What “the” (singular) of several links (plural) you provided are you talking abut? But no matter. No it was not "all" covered in the multiple links you sent which do not address the more important threshold question (1). The only issue you addressed was (2) data transfer which is secondary to the threshold issue which is ISSUE question one (1). Threshold issue/question presented: before we can go to question (2) we must address question (1).
As I stated “Please know that I do know where that 'profile' and its .ics calendar profiles are stored.”
You replied “No you do not. Local calendars are not stored in ICS files.”
First please notice you make no attempt to clarify where they are; but, once again, please read carefully. I did not say that the calendars are “stored in the ICS files” but that the .ics files ARE the calendars and I do know there they are stored.
Please see the screen-shot you claim is not germane? Each of those different colored calendars are (“not stored” in but are) .ics files that are stored in the Profile directory. In the directory c:\Users\myName\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird is a directory or folder called \Profiles and in that directory is a file named 9w2ydrc4.default. That file IS the profile. In that profile is a folder called “calendar-data” and in that folder are the calender .ics files that are the different colored calenders you see in the very germane screen-shot. So I do know where the calendars are. So I gather that all I copy into the Profiles directory is the file (profile) called 9w2ydrc4.default.
Again, as I wrote before, I do not want a full suite with email. So what do I downloaded and install to get only what you see in the screen-shot. I don't think we ever installed a full suite before. I never saw and email program. So, again,'' asked but not answered. ''
Then you stated, I do not need to download and install Lightening (please notice, is a partial answer to my first, threshold, question you presumed was a joke) but only Thunderbird since “Lightning is already in your profile so will move with it When you actually move the profile.”
Well, since you like to use links, exactly what is your documented Mozilla authority for that hearsay? Since I posted the question I have spent much time at Mozilla. Literally everything I have seen indicates I must first download and Thunderbird. But again, I do not want to and never did, install a full suite of programs and, as far as I know, there is no Mozilla mail or other suite programs on this (my current old computer) and there never were. So, once again'', asked and not answered).''
Everything at Mozilla states I must first download & install Thunderbird'' and then ''add-on Lightening. Nothing I have seen at Mozilla suggests otherwise or states that when we want to get Mozilla calendars over to a new computer we must first and *only* download and install Thunderbird and then just copy the profile (9w2ydrc4.default) into the 'Profiles' directory. Nothing I have seen at Mozilla suggests I do not have to download and install Lightening. So please show me where Mozilla documents that. ''' Please notice that even Zeno states, “You download AND INSTALL LIGHTNING as an add-on.'''”
Since this contradicts you do tell me: what is your Mozilla authority for claim that I do not need to download and install Lightening because it's already in my profile? I see nothing in my profile that suggests Lightening is there.
Finally, I wrote to you “ ...it is axiomatic that Windows transfer wizard does NOT transfer programs but only data. You did not know this?” I only wrote that because it appeared your reference to Transfer Wizard was a response to the threshold question of (1) how to I get the program onto the new machine. But your response is''' very '''strange for you wrote “You are the first person I have encountered that thought it did more than transfer data.” Show me where I said that. I said the opposite. How on earth did you come to that interpretation as a response to my simple and very clear statement that " ...it is axiomatic that Windows transfer wizard does''' NOT transfer programs but only data.'''.”

  • I am moving lightroom to a new computer. I downloaded an update and tried to install it. The download refused my serial number. What do I do?

I am moving lightroom to a new computer. The   installed program is refusing my serial number. What to I do?

Then all I can suggest is that you double check your serial number. If you registered your software you can check your account on Adobe and double check to make sure you have the number right.

  • I moved itunes to a new computer. had music but no playlists,

I have a new computer and moved my music to a external drive then onto my new computer, now all my playlists are gone, soooo I started rebuilding my playlists, I didnt do it all in one day, but now all the music has the exclmation mark and wont play at all.
I am not very good with the computer so I am lost when it is seaching for my songs, because it cant find them. when it searches it goes to my desktop, looking fo a file name.
I dont know how to fix this. How do I get backto what was on the old computer?
As I am not a computer person this is a frustration becaue I dont know one file from another.
I purchased a lot of songs from itunes and would like to have thm back rather than start all over and repurchase the song that i paid for.
Can anyone help ? I also want to be able to sync my ipod, like before, I'm concerned about losing what is on the ipod  .
    Thank you

Eching the comment above I suspect you only copied the media folder, instead of copying the main iTunes folder. Playlists, ratings, play counts etc. are all stored in the iTunes Library.itl file that is the core of your library. Migrate the whole library properly and everything ends up on the new system. This is my suggested process.
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.

  • Moving library to a new computer with an external backup hard disk

I have a new computer running Windows 7, going through the fun of moving my itunes library, the old PC DVD drive keeps crashing mid burn, so wondering if the possibility is there to reinstall the library from the Western Digital external backup device I had on the old computer, I sort of think it should be easy to point itunes to that device as the backup device and then reinstall. Is it as simple as that? Has anyone else done this as it is really like moving the files via an ipod as a hard disk?

You can de-authorise your old computer and authorise the new one at any time.
In fact they can both be authorised at the same time if you like.
You are allowed to have 5 computers authorised at any one time.

  • Moving catalog to a new computer

I recently purchased a new computer, and I need to transfer my existing Lightroom (3.6) catalog to the new machine.  I have installed Lightroom on the new machine, and have updated it to the same version as on the old machine.  All my images are on an external drive that I can move to the new computer.
Can I simply export the existing catalog, move the hard drive, and import the catalog into the new instance of Lightroom on the new computer?  Obviously, I want to retain al the keywords, develop adjustments, etc., that I had in the original catalog.
Thanks.  Feel free to point me to an FAQ or other resource.
    Thanks,
    Dave

The link provided basically says the same thing, but if the images already exist on the external hard drive and the catalog on the internal hard drive then you can simply copy of their catalog without need of exporting. Exporting will work but your basically wanting to just recreate a copy of the existing catalog so it's easier just to copy it (assuming you have everything together (the catalog, the preview file and any catalog backups).
I can say from experience, I have seen people moving the catalog to a new computer who have had issues when they have tried to do it by exporting the catalog because they skip a step or forget setting or certain images. Spare yourself the trouble.
After you copy it back to the new computer you just need to relink the image folder to the external hard drive.

  • Question re: moving iTunes library to new computer where files have different file path?

    Hi everyone-
I just got a new laptop and need to transfer my iTunes library to the new computer.
On my old computer, the hard drive was partitioned into a "C" drive and an "F" drive. The new laptop is just "C."
Since my iTunes library was on the "F" partition on the old laptop, the file path for all the files is going to change when I transfer to the new laptop.
I can find dozens and dozens of articles online about how to move iTunes to a new computer, but none of them seem to address the file path issue.
Does anyone know where I can find detailed instructions on how to make this work?
    Thanks in advance.

    Quit iTunes.
Move the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder to the F: drive.
    Hold Shift & launch iTunes.
Select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder you moved to the F: drive.
    Everything should still work fine.
Now go to iTunes prefs > Advanced.
Set the iTunes media folder location to the iTunes folder you just moved to the F: drive.
iTunes menu File > Library > Consolidate library.
This will copy all your media into the iTunes folder (F:\iTunes\iTunes media\ folder)
    Let it finsh.
    Quit iTunes.
Then you can copy the F:\iTunes\ folder to the new computer.
If you copy it to /Music/ folder, just start iTunes and it'll work.
If you copy it elswhere (such as another drive) hold Shift, launch iTunes, select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder.

  • Moving iWeb to a new computer

i have just taken delivery of my new macbook pro and I want to move the maintenance of my iWeb generated web site on to the new computer - how do I do it?

    Hi Brian
The first thing to do is launch and then quit iWeb on the new MBP, this creates a couple of folders and files.
Next, on the PB, navigate to User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
You are now going to copy this file to the same location on the MBP, there will already be one there (you creates it above). As long as you haven't done any work in iWeb on the MBP then you can simply Trash the existing domain file and replace it with the one from the PB.
Now launch iWeb and you should see you old site on your new computer.
Some might suggest moving the preference file as well:
    User/Library/Preference/com.apple.iWeb.plist
I would just go with the domain file first and see how you do.
Of course, if you are copying the whole of your old Home folder across then it should be there.
Having done this, I would suggest doing a Publish All, I am not sure if any changes happen to blog naming etc when moving from PPC to Intel. Someone else felt that it might have for them.

  • Moved CS6 Project to new computer, now Premiere CC won't use correct fonts

I recently moved a CS6 project with very complex font designs to a new computer. I installed the fonts I needed on the new computer and opened the project in Premiere CC. I was prompted to create a new CC version of the project, which worked fine, but now all of the fonts have defaulted to courier and if I try to change them back to their original fonts, the sizes and positioning are all wrong. This project took a good week to design, and I really don't want to put another week into adjusting all of the fonts back to what they were supposed to be.
Is there anything I can do to get the project settings back to what they were?

I never did what you're doing really...but did you assign the same drive letter to the drive that it had from the project that worked before ?
the "path" to the files is the whole path including drive letter....

  • Help moving iTunes to a new computer

I am reposting this question since I am still having trouble moving iTunes from my desktop (Tiger) to my Macbook (Leopard).
I have successfully moved the iTunes folder to my new computer and all my playlists, album artwork etc are there.
The problem is the actual music. On my old computer all the albums are saved under Users: Shared
The new computer only has only user.
It was suggested that I move it to the iTunes Music Folder.
I tried that. Only half of the shared library copied - an error saying the remaining files could not be copied came up.
When I opened iTunes the songs won't play because "the original file could not be located"
    - if i click to find it, I can then go to the iTunes Music Folder (which now contains 3 folders : Downloads, Podcasts and Shared).
If I click on Shared - the music is there, and if I then click on the individual song it loads it and will play it.
Is there anyone to do this en masse? With over 13G of music I can't reload each song individually. I am assuming the location I copied the music too is wrong.
I hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance for any help.
    L

I think that most of the folders are locked. In leopard they don't use shared they have Public folders. Try going to the music folder then clicking Get Info and changing it. If that doesn't work try the Migration assistant. To get to that on leopard (I don't know how to on Tiger) Go to applications then utilities and select the Migration assistant.

  • Moving Lightroom to a new computer

This question arises from my use of Lightroom, but the answer might apply to all licensed Adobe products. I have CS2, Elements 4, and Lightroom for the MAC.
I have just acquired an Intel-based iMac running OS 10.5.1. I want to move all my photography applications to the new computer. What is the best method, considering that I am moving them from a PowerPC processor system (Powerbook G4) to an Intel iMac?
Should I reinstall from scratch? Is there some restriction on having it on two computers? If so, I want each program on my new computer and am willing to remove it from the old one. Can I move the .app file from one computer to the new one, or must I re-install?

    Robert-
I would first backup everything and then launch "Migration Assistant" from your Utilities folder, and launch the PPC in Target mode (hold down the T key on boot)- it's easy from there.
This should work fine on your new *Mac* [MAC stands for something else]. You could E-mail me for any Mac advice; post here for LR stuff. [email protected]
I don't know if your version of Elements or CS2 are Universal (meaning they will run on both PPC and Intel chips) or not, but give it a go, as I suspect they are. If not, just delete and install fresh.

  • Moving Mail to a new computer

I am getting a new computer and would like to move mail and its settings, folders, etc. without moving all of my programs and users settings. I would like to end up with a clean install except for mail. Is that possible with migration assistant or is there another way such as importing archieves for each mailbox folder. Is there a pst file that contains the rules, and account info?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Thanks
It's relevant because all Apple mail accounts are Imap, which would have made it easy, but ... all the Imap accounts do not need to be transferred, POP accounts (comcast, earthlink and yahoo, maybe) will need to be exported from wherever they are and reimported.
PST files are Outlook only, if you are using Outlook you could buy emailchemy and let it do this for you.
