BEFW11S4 MSN / AIM problems

I seem to be getting disconnected from MSN and AIM on an ongoing basis. I know it's not my ISP or modem because I directly connected to my comp from my modem using USB and I'm 100% stable when I do that. However when I run a line from my modem to the router then my network card, I get disconnected every 5-10mins from MSN and AIM. Funny thing is I'm directly connected to the router from my desktop so I don't know why I'm getting disconnected. Any help would be appreciated. 

Hi, in this situation where you have already upgraded the Firmware for the router, you can reset the router by holding and pressing the reset on the back panel for 30seconds. Then reconfigure the router. You can then log into the setup page of the router by http://192.168.1.1 the username is blank and the password is admin. Under the setup screen lower the MTU to 1492.

  • Solve the MSN/Jabbber problems once and for all!!

    Hey there.
    I use iChat to talk to my msn friends through jabber. I have three gripes with this, two I think can be Solved. The first being user name, everytime I want to change my user name (Which is not often) I have to go into a third party app to do it, thats a pain in the ***. Second, Buddy icons. Now all I want is my company logo to show up next to my name, I don't want to change it, unless I change my logo, but I have to be logged in on msn to show this, not through jabber.
    So for you developers out there.
    It's obvious that when you use msn it connects to a network and grabs your username and icon. So is it possible to make a widget that is connected to this network and that you can easily type in your username and also drag and drop the logo you want to use onto it. Then it stays connected with your info so your friends can see your buddy icon while you sit there happily using iChat (appart from the no transfers)..
    Hope someone can solve this problem, cause if not i'm going to be spending a lot of time trying to do it myself!

    Does anyone know a good easy to install server for osx then that I can connect mainly to MSN with.
    Hopefully with features like Buddy Icons and file transfers.
    So that I can use iChat with my msn buddy's just like my aim ones.

  • BEFW11S4 v2 Wireless Problems w/ Vista

    I've have a BEFW11S4 v2 (firmware version: 1.45.10) wireless router for several years.  For the past year I've been running a Vista laptop along with my XP desktop.  The Vista laptop has been connected via wireless and desktop wired for the past year without a problem. 
    About a week ago, I upgraded my Time Warner Cable Road Runner service to add phone service.  The upgrade required Time Warner to come out and replace my cable modem.  Since then, I can't connect to the internet via my router.  My laptop sees the wireless network, and even connects to it, but it does not allow me to access the internet.
     I understand from reading this forum that there were some problems with compatibility with Vista (surprise!).  I want to know if anyone has figured out a work around to this problem.  Obviously, it worked with my Vista laptop before.

  • Internet/MSN Messenger Problems

    Ok, so for the past few weeks I've been having some problems with my msn and the internet. I use my city's cable internet and I'm on an imac OS 10.4.6 800MHz PowerPC G4.
    When I log onto the internet in any browser, it works just fine. But, when I log into MSN messenger, messegner tells me no one is online. I know that's not true because there is always someone online. Anyway, I log out of msn, but when I go back to use the internet, it doesn't work and I have to unplug my modem and plug it back in (reset it) to get the internet to work again.
    I then decided to use my iBook laptop to use the internet. MSN worked just fine on my laptop and I had no problms until two days ago I had gotten a list of updates from mac. (I chose to get weekly updates in System Preferences). The updates were for iTunes, iPod, and a Mac OS X PowerPC update. I had done that at night, then when it was finished updating I shut the laptop down and went to bed. The next morning my laptop was giving me the same problems my imac was.
    Then today my iMac wouldn't let me log onto the internet at all, when my laptop would. After I rebooted my computer it let me on.
    The other strange thing is that when I tried to log in with my Apple ID to post here, it told me my ID was disabled because of security reasons, so I had to make a new ID.
    Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Do I have some kind of virus maybe? I have no clue. Help!

    After the upsdates did you run "Disk Utility" and "Repair Permissions" ?
    do this preferably before and after a system update, it does fix a lot of these little problems and prevents potential hassles in the future.
    Another excellent repair utility is "Applejack", go to Google and get the address and download the application (Donationware).
    This program runs in Single User Mode and repairs a lot more than Disk Utility, afterwards you'll find your Mac running faster and with fewer problems.

  • Ichat a/v to pc/aim problems

    Hi
    Having successfully videoconfed with a fellow mac/ichat user, I'd like to expand to include a pc user who is far from pc literate. We have been able to instant (text) message, but neither audio nor video calls have worked and we get a connection error.
    Is it safe to assume that as I can successfully connect to another mac, then the my buddy's pc is the problem? They have a new dell, connected to BT internet, running Vista and AIM. I'd be grateful for some tips as they only bought their web cam to call me. Thanks

    Which version of AIM ?
    They need to allow the App as an Exception in the firewall.

    I have not heard that the Vista Firewall is much different.
    If their BT modem is set to do UPnP then they also need to allow the UPnP bit in the firewall.
    The BT Home Hub does UPnP not all other modem the offer do.
    If they have a modem that does not do UPnP then they need to open the ports AIM uses there as well.
    They will need this site for that bit.
    They click on their device in the List and then AIM Video in the next page.
    In the third page they will see the defaults to access the device in a web browser and the instructions.

  • Yahoo and MSN messenger problems

    Hi,
    I have a Blackberry Curve 8900, and since I have upgrade MSN and Yahoo messengers to v 2.5.27, I have the same problem with both of them.
    When I try to send a picture, I get the message: "Untaught exception: UI engine accessed without holding the event lock" , and I'm logged off automatically.
    How can I fix this, or downgrade to the previous version?

  • Ichat & msn messenger problems

    Is there anyway that I can set my status to invisible on iChat?
    Also- was not sure where to put this next question. On msn messenger for mac- when I try and change the emoticons, either add or remove some from my list, it states that I am only allowed a max of 59 emoticons. Would have no problem, except i have only selected about 15..........
    Any idea how to change this?

  • BEFW11S4,ver2 - connection problems through wireless routers

    I have one desktop, running 2000, connected to the BEFW11S4, via ethernet. I have another desktop, running XP, connected via ethernet. I have one laptop running XP, connected wirelessly to the router. And I have another laptop running Vista connected wirelessly to the router. I have set them all up on the same network, to get IPs automatically. The router has IP 192.168.1.1, subnet 255.255.255.0. Computer 1(1st desktop) is 192.168.1.100, Computer 2 (2nd desktop) is 192.168.1.101, laptop 1 is 192.168.1.102, and the last laptop is .103, all on the same subnet as the router.
    I can get to the internet from all computers
    All computers can ping the router, 192.168.1.1
    192.168.1.100 can ping the router, but none of the other 3 computers.
    192.168.1.101 can ping the router, and the other desktop (.100), but not the two laptops
    192.168.1.102 can ping the router, and the first desktop (.100), but not the .101 or .103
    192.168.1.103 can ping the router, and the first desktop, (.100), but not the .101 or .102 IPs
    I have network and file sharing enabled on all four computers, and they all show up in my "HOME" network, in My network places, on all four computers.
    I have two printers connected to the 2nd desktop, (.101), with printer sharing enabled on both of them, yet I cannot get to either printer from any of the machines...which make sense, since I can't ping them...but, doesn't make sense, since the computer their connected to shows up in my network...(may try hooking one or both printers to the .100 machine tomorrow and see if that works.
    I had it working before, but I think I had to set IP addresses manually in each machine, and it had to be a different network than the default 192.168.1.0 network. I haven't tried that again, (I'm getting burntout with everything I have tried).
    Whats the problem? Do I have to set static routes in each machine? I wouldn't think I would have to since they are all on the same local network, and all on the same workgroup.
    I had the same problem setting up a two machine network at my wifes daycare as well. The desktop machine is running XP, the laptop is running Vista. Both machines on the same network, and workgroup, with file file and printer sharing on, but I can't get the laptop to connect to the desktop printer. What do I need to do that I am not doing right now?

    as I said in the 1st post, I have file and printer sharing turned on in all the machines already. and I have doublechecked it twice, and reset it twice on all machines.  Tonight I was finally able to ping all the machines, and print to both machines, but only after I set the IP address in both desktops manually to a 192.168.5.0 network.  I left the two laptops that connect wirelessly to assign ip automatically, and restarted all the computers again, and then I was able to ping all machines, from all machines, and get to the two printers.
    If I manually change both desktops back to the default 192.168.1.0 network, and follow the same restart procedure, they don't work.  doesn't make any sense...

  • BEFW11S4 V2 Wireless Problem

    Hi all, I am new to this whole message and thread thing, so I apologize in advance if I break any protocols.
    I have a Linksys 2.4 GHz (BEFW11S4 ver. 2) Wireless Access Point Router, and it works just great as a router when I have devices "hard-lined" in to it via Cat 5 cables.  However, I am having problems getting devices to connect to the Internet through the router via Wireless connections.
    I used to have this workin great, as I got the router back in 2002 or something, but then like a year and a hlaf ago, it stopped working with wireless.  I just thought something broke and I used it only with direct Cat 5 connections.
    Well, on this Christmas break I decided to have a go at figuring it out and I just downloaded and upgraded the latest Firmware.  I also have the Router configured with a new SSID name and set up for DHCP.
    I think I am almost there, but for some reason I cannot get Internet Access!!
    I have the Channel Set to 6 on both the PC and the Router, and I have a solid Green light on my PC with a very strong Signal strength.  It is recognizing the router, because it is reading the new SSID name.  Also, the kids got a Wii for Christmas and I can see the Router there, but it fails when it tries it's connection test.
    Is there something basic I am missing or something that I can try?  Any help that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.  I tried to read some old threads, but the issues were never exactly the same.

    Check the Ip address under wired & wireless connection ..... as it shows connected under the same .....
    If it is showing any valid Ip 192.168.1.X ..... try connecting to the internet ......
    also try to disable the firewall first on the wireless computer ......

  • BEFW11S4 v4 Disconnecting Problems

    I'm having a few problems recently with my BEFW11S4 v4 router. I upgraded its firmware finally after owning it for about 5 years. I did it correctly like it said on the page. Yet, ever since I've been getting disconnected randomly and its all the time. Something like 5-10 times a day. I'm pretty sure its not my broadband modem doing it too, cause I just unplug the router and plug it back in and it works fine again. Any solotions? Or should I just dish out a few bucks and get a new one?

    sO,,it has been verified that the router could be the fault because through the modem you can get online fine right?
    since you have already upgraded the firmware of your router..try logging on to the router interface and lower down its MTU to 1400...

    well today it was running fine then i went too eat then when i gone back on a hour later it keeps on say

  • BEFW11s4 Computer permission problems (I think)

    I have two desktops and a wireless laptop connected through my BEFW11s4 router.  Everything worked perfectly until I unhitched everything to move the computers around my office.  After I reconnected everything I ended up with the following:  All three computers can see the internet, the two desktops can use the printer which is attached to one of the desktops.  The wireless laptop can't print anymore and none of the computers can access each other.  I have tried re-running the network set up wizard but that hasn't worked.  HELP !!!

    I have found the windows firewalls and turned them off. The second computer can now see everything on the first computer.  The first computer can see that the second computer is on the network but I cannot access anything. (see message below)  I have re-set the hard drive to "sharing" mode (click my computer, right click on C drive, highlight sharing and security etc...) but it still doesn't work. I am wondering if the McAfee program is still blocking access. I opened up McAfee and had it look for computers on the network.  It found the first computer and shows it connected to the network via the router.  I clicked to allow access to/from the network, but I still have the error message problem.  Any ideas? Thanks!

  • MSN Pecan problems

    I have just started having problems with MSN Pecan. It was working fine last night, but this morning is not working correct.
    I have 2 MSN accounts. One at hotmail.com and one at live.com. Now for some reason the live.com account is not working. Usually when I log on it gives me the option to enable the account, but this option is missing. When I try to sign in, nothing happens. The hotmail.com account allows me to disable or enable the account, but the live.com option I can't even sign in.
    Like I said before, it was working fine. I have uninstalled the app and re-installed it, but it still doesnt work.
    Any ideas?

    So i have a problem with messages. I create a aim account and login it in messages. I call to my sister who have a same macbook that i i have she also use a aim. When i call to her she don't have a invite to video conference, audio conference etc. On my mac i only see that waiting for accept.  When she call to me i have the same problem,

    When i have a problem with icloud and messages i do these steps:
    If you're not signed in, sign in. If you are signed in, sign out and sign back in. If there's no change, continue as follows.
    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    Back up all data.
    Quit Messages if it’s running.
    Step 1
    Hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
    from the Finder menu bar. Move the following items from the Library folder to the Trash (either may not exist):
    Caches/com.apple.Messages
    Caches/com.apple.imfoundation.IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent
    Leave the Library folder open. Log out and log back in. Try Messages again. If it works now, stop here. Close the Library folder.
    Step 2
    If you still have problems, quit Messages again. Go back to the Finder and move the following item from the open Library folder to the Desktop:
    Messages
    Note: you are not moving the Messages application. You’re moving a folder named “Messages.”
    Test. If Messages now works, delete the Messages folder on the Desktop. Otherwise, quit Messages again. Put back the folder you moved, overwriting the newer one that may have been created in its place, and continue.
    Step 3
    In the Preferences subfolder, there may be several files having names that begin with any of the following strings:
    com.apple.iChat
    com.apple.imdsmsrecordstore
    com.apple.imessage
    com.apple.imservice
    Move them all to the Desktop. There may also be a file with the name "com.apple.imagent.plist". Move that to the Trash.
    Also in the Preferences folder, there's a subfolder named "ByHost". Open it and do the same thing.
    Log out and log back in. Test again. This time Messages should perform normally, but your settings will be lost. You may be able to put back some of the files you moved to the Desktop in this step. Relaunch and test after each one. Eventually you should find one or more that causes Messages to malfunction. Delete those files and recreate whatever settings they contained.
    If the issue is still not resolved, quit Messages again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were. You don’t need to replace the items you moved to the Trash. Stop here and post again.
    If you later decide that you don’t like the results of steps 2 and 3, you can undo them completely by quitting Messages and restoring the items you deleted in those steps from your backup.
    I think taht i deleted some files in these folders. It is may be the cause ?
