BEFW11S4 v.4 and Vista - firmware upgrade failures

Hello
I have had this router for about 5 years, running it with XP with no problems. Ever since I got a new laptop with Vista, the wireless connects for an hour or so and then drops out and I have to unplug the router for five seconds and re-plug in order to reconnect (my other laptop with XP doesn't have this problem).
I understand that there are compatibility issues between the BEFW11S4 v. 4 and Vista so I tried to upgrade the firmware from linksys.com and kept getting a failed message. I hard rebooted the router but holding in the restart button for 30 seconds, and the upgrade still failed. So I re-set the factory settings through the router's online admin function, re-downloaded the upgrade and still got the failed emssage (I am certain that the model & version number is correct and I'm downloading the correct firmware upgrade).
Is there anything else I can do other than a) buy a new router; b) live with teh drop-outs; c) remove Vista and go back to XP?
Thanks

If you have any Firewall or Antivirus installed on your computer, you can disable it and after this try upgrading the firmware of your router. It if still dosent work then you can try it from some other computer and try it again. If it still the same problem then i think you can Press and hold the reset button for 1 minute...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 1 minute and re-connect the power cable...Now again you can try upgrading the firmware of your router.

  • DR4 - A and the firmware upgrade 2.30

Has anyone tried the firmware upgrade. Does it mess your drive up (like I've heard countless number of times about firmware upgardes)

Unusual, I've never experienced a crash with the drive! I noticed it vibrates the case, so I put foam inside to stop this.
Version 2.17 of the firmware had lots of problems with it. 2.20 seemed to solve these, and 2.30 (as you say) seems to solve even more.
I found it is mutch more compatable with Win 2000, than Win 98

  • RV042 firmware upgrade failure to 4.0.2.08-tm

Tried upgrading my firmware to 4.0.2.08-tm and now I cannot log in via the web interface. The router boots and gets out to the internet. It still allows incoming vpn connections. The login screen displays and will display an error message if I use incorrect credentials, but if I log in properly and am directed to the routers web config homepage at "192.168.1.1/default.htm", I get a 404 error message. Telnet does not work either (not sure if it's on, never used it before)
    404 Not Found
The requested server-side-includes filename, /usr/local/EasyAccess/www/htdocs/default.htm, does not seem to exist.
As if the web pages after the login screen got removed or corrupted after the update.
    SN is NKS10403247
I realize there is a newer version. Attempted the upgrade incrementally since I could not find documentation specifiying if that was required or not.
    Thanks!

    Dear Scott Poniatowski,
My name is Friedrich Scharzn and I work for the Cisco Small Business Support Center in Europe.
Can you please let me know  which version of the RV042 you have or/and which firmware you have at the moment? If your Router is not hardware version v3, then you won;t be able to update it to 4.02.08-tm.
    Many thanks,

  • Firmware upgrade failure with zen Vision M 30

Hi Guys, new to this and need some help as it has been a few days waiting on anything sensible to come from Creative support. History. Daughter got the new creative vision M 60gig and gave old (0 months) 30 gig to Dad Smiles all round. Dad (tech support manager) loads up system software and re formats the dri've. Finds new firmware upgrade so down loads and goes through the prosess of updating. Now up to this point, unit was working fine and was seen by win xp in the 'my computers list' but is new to my computer. Selected reload firmware which erased the old and told me to install the new. I ran the downloaded .exe file (latest) and it told me it could not find a device. Spent last night looking over the web for clues. Windows media play was listed but it turns out that it was only the beta that had an issue (in any event, it would not let me remove it as it wanted to do a roll back but could only find ver to roll back to). Sent out message to creative who cam back and told me to roll back wmp (great help) and to change the permissions for USB which I did. This then caused my computer to blue screen twice (had to re boot in safe and exit to recover). Ran registry mechanic and it fixed several things but still the unit is not seen by the upgrade program. When I boot the player up, it detects it has a firmware issue and puts me in the recovery mode screen. But nothing I do gets the upgrade to work. Any one got any ideas?

I have a similar problem. I tried to upgrade my firmware. So it erased the one that was on the player, and when i try to install the new one the computer says the device isn't plugged in, even though when i plug it in the pop up menu is displayed and it says DOcked on the player and the player is charging

  • Problems w/ BEFW11S4 V.2 Wireless router (Firmware Upgrade & Wireless connectivity)

    HI Everyone,
I figurd I try this before I went out an bought a new wireless router.
     I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 v.2 wireless router/4port switch and I have (2) issues.
1st, on the HELP screen I have no link to 'upgrade firmware' - (currently using v1.40.2 Nov 28, 2001). I'v etried to download the uprgade and I have the .bin file saved, but have no idea how to upgrade without the UPGRADE link in Help.
    Any ideas???
2nd, my wireless conenctions won't work (hence the reason I'm trying to uprgade the firmware - was hoping this might fix the wireless issue).
I have reset the device (reset button to factory defaults and currently have NO security setup for wireless - until I can get conenctivity working again).
Again, any ideas or experience with getting these sorts of problems resolved would be greatly appreciiated!
Thanks for reading this and for any help you might be able to provide.
    P

Were you able to get your issues fixed?  I too have had some connection issues with the same router, although mine is V.4.  On mine I would loose all connectivity, not just wireless, at random times.  It seems like it would happen a lot when I would use the wireless for my laptop (i.e. when I would bring it out of sleep mode).  I have also had it happen with streaming media.  The only way I can fix this issue is to power down the router for a couple seconds and then it's fine, until it happens again.  I had two different guys from Linksys (try to) help me and I did everything they recommended and it still does it.
Hopefully you don't have the same issue...

  • WET610N firmware upgrade stuck at 54%

After setting the bridge up successfully (few hiccups), I figured I should upgrade the firmware. Its stuck at 54% for an hour now. There is flashing text in red warning: Upgrade must NOT be interrupted!!
Its clearly stuck and I don't think its going to move. Any thoughts on how I should proceed.
What would happen if I pulled the plug on the upgrade?

If you wish to upgrade your WET610N’s firmware manually, you need to complete the following steps:
    i.    Checking the firmware version of your Bridge
    ii.   Downloading the firmware
    iii.  Performing the upgrade
    iv.  Reconfiguring the Bridge
    QUICK TIPS:
For stable connectivity and to prevent upgrade failures, make sure that your computer is connected to the bridge using an Ethernet cable.  Upgrading the firmware wirelessly may cause permanent damage to the bridge since wireless connection may be unstable during the process.
Use a different web browser if Internet Explorer doesn’t work or use a different computer to perform the upgrade.
Disable any computer firewall to ensure that the upgrade will not be disrupted.
Make sure that you have downloaded the correct firmware and version for your device to prevent technical problems that may damage the bridge.

  • Firmware upgrade 1.3.0.62 -- 1.3.5.58 (SG 300-28P)

Should i be concerned doing the firmware upgrade remotely? I.e. remote to a local workstation and connecting to SG 300-28P from that workstation over LAN and doing firmware upgrade using WebGUI (Google Chrome)?
I've done the multiple upgrades on these switches this way and never had an issue.
However, Release Notes for 1.3.5.58 have some notice regarding boot image and I am concerned that configuration can be lost after the upgrade and if this is the case I'd be screwed since I won't be able to get on the switch to load the custom config after the fact.
Anyone who's done this upgrade please report if your configuration settings were left in place after the upgrade to 1.3.5.58.

    Cameron hi,
Interesting input about loss of VLAN configuration while upgrading version. Is this the 1st time you see this issue, or does it happen also during regular reload of the switch?
Also - some question which can may provide additonal informaiton on issue  (if you can provide these):
    1) Did the issue happen on a port connected to another switch (an uplink port)? - If so what is the neigbor switch type?
    2) would it be possible for you to to provide running and startup config before and after reload (of course without security sensative details).
    3) Can you provide outputs of show CDP neighbors (detail)  before and after reboot?
    Thanks
    Naftali

  • Firmware upgrade fails

I am having trouble upgrading the firmware on my WRE54G. My hardware is v.3 and the existing firmware is 3.01.01.
I downloaded the latest firmware and extracted the .img file. I went to the admin page of the expander, pointed it towards the new firmware, and hit "go." After a minute or so it said something like:
    Firmware upgrade fail.
    Fail!
    No reasons are given.
Anybody have any idea what is going on?
    Thanks,
    Garth

I had a similar problem upgrading firmware with my WRT300N. What i did to solve the problem was first i downloaded and went through the winzip program given for the router, then i went back to the webpage of the router and retried the upgrade and it worked. I actually ignored by routers version, and downloaded and went through each winzip program and each firmware upgrade for every different version . **i only downloaded the firmware up to my version and my version**.

  • XServe RAID firmware upgrade - ASCII identifier

Got called into a situation where files & folders stored on an XServe RAID were disappearing and appearing randomly, not only from the client standpoint, but while looking at the XServe RAID volume on the XServe, as well.
Turned out to be file system corruption that Disk Utility couldn't repair. DiskWarrior seemingly was able to fix it. Ran Disk Utility afterward and it reported no errors. And all the files and folders appear to be there (from the XServe).
However, now the problem is that when a user mounts the main sharepoint, she can only see 15 of the 37 folders. Other sharepoints only show a fraction of the number of "real" folders that should be there. The folders that are missing are at the end of the list alphabetically. Logging in as admin user shows the same behavior.
Redid permissions with Workgroup Manager. No help.
My suspicion is that it may have something to do with the RAID controller firmware. They been running with RAID Admin tools 1.3.2 since it came out, and everything has been fine. However, everywhere I've read emphasizes how important it is it keep the RAID controller firmware updated.
The reason they haven't updated the firmware (to 1.3.2-1.26) is that the Sys Admin there believes that it will mess up the half of the XServe RAID that is serving a Windows 2003 server (his baby). The specific line that terrifies him is:
"- INQUIRY page 0x83 response ASCII Identifier string cleaned up and Identifier EUI-64 replaced with NAA-64"
I just don't have enough server experience to know what that means, nor have my online searches turned up anything.
Can anyone explain what the ramifications of this sentence from the ReadMe are? Is there any reason to suspect that after the firmware upgrade, the Windows server will no longer recognize it's half of the XServe RAID?

    Okay, I've solved the problem.
Basically, the issue was that the lower controller wasn't seated right despite it showing a green light in RAID Admin. When I went to visually inspect it, I noticed that despite what RAID Admin 1.5.1 claimed, its light wasn't even on, let alone green. And since the lower controller handles slots 8-14 of an Xserve RAID and my slots 8-14 are totally unpopulated (empty) at the moment, it was never noticed. Now that I've reseated the lower controller, everything is visually showing green across the board and the firmware upgrade is proceeding as expected and it has upgraded the firmware from 1.3.2/1.26a to 1.5.1/1.5.1c complete with autorestart of both upper and lower controller modules.
Basic lesson learned: RAID Admin lies. If possible, visually inspect the box itself!
    Thanks to all who responded.

  • Firmware upgrade times out (BEFW11S4 v4)

Hi, my firmware upgrade times out everytime and i've read that the only way to get past this is by flash-upgrading the router through this web address ftp.linksys.com/pub/network but the link doesn't work for me and says '550 failed to change directory'. Is there another link i can try or another solution?
    Previous thread: http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Routers&thread.id=122275

    Download Firmware 314 KB...
    Download TFTP Utility...
After downloading the Firmware rename the file(like - befw11s4)...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Double click the TFTP.exe file and click run.
For Server- Enter the IP Address of the router that you assigned.  By default, the router is 192.168.1.1...
For Password- Enter the password you assigned the router. By default, the router’s password is “admin”.
For File- Click the triple “…” button and browse for the .bin firmware file...
Click Upgrade button to start upgrading.  A progress bar should show up to show the progress.
Once the Upgrade is done press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Firmware Upgrade and Battery Life?

Since the firmware upgrade on my Macbook in early February the fan appears to be running at full speed all the time and battery life is crap! Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a fix/workaround available please?

Sounds more like an app stuck processing that shouldn't be....does happen from time to time. Behing hot means it is constantly processing.
    To fix:
    Try a reboot (described below).
Think of it this way, the iPhone is more of a computer than a phone. It suffers from being a new OS and nobody can deny there are not bugs and memory leaks. The longer left running, the more things start to fail or slow down (I have had the iPhone since day one of original phone and I am just speaking from my experience). Thus I equate it to like when Windows95 came out...not sure of your age or if you remember those days...but back then it was a running joke of how many days you can keep Windows 95 running before you had to reboot. I am sorry to say but the iPhone is the same way right now (but getting better with a few hiccups back during the 2.0 release). So for me, I reboot daily when I leave in the morning and take it off the charger. By doing so I rarely see any lag or problems.
    A reset/reboot is:
    Go to Home Screen
    Press and Hold Home Button
Keep holding and press and hold Lock Button
    Keep holding Both
You will see Slide to Turn Off (Don't let go to slide, just keep holding)
The phone will turn off (in time, but screen will look like it has some white lines)
    Keep Holding
When you see the Apple Logo, you can let go.
Turning off via the Slide to Turn off while good and fine to turn off, is more like the Sleep Mode on a computer. Thus any locked up issues in memory remain when you turn back on. A reboot as described is like doing a real Turn off and Turn On on a computer.
You may also wish to read this tread about reboots and odd application behavior.

    For me, 2.1 works great.

  • Firmware Upgrade causes severe slowness and Hangs

Has anyone else encountered this problem? I did do the firmware upgrade, and that caused slowness in responsiveness (followed immediately by that spinning wheel). In some cases, it completely hangs. At this time, I also tried to VNC into it, and it wasn't listening. It looks like GUI and network connectivity got hosed. This happens at least 10 times today.
    Any suggestions?

    spingineer,
I haven't seen the firmware update (done 2x) alone cause the problems that you're mentioning. In fact, I didn't notice a thing after running it. I DID notice issues when I ran all the updates (machine fresh out of the box and then everything at once). You machine shouldn't be any slower. Make sure you have enough free space on your drive.
The obvious, and often underused, diagnostic tool is to create a new user account and see if the issues persist there. If not, then look to what's running in your login items and your applications. You may just need to repair permissions, but sometimes it helps to verify or repair the disk.
As to the network connectivity. I'd say it's basically a given that a lot of minis aren't good citizens.
What I see is contention. It's like the machine thinks 'oh, someone else is using the connection so I'll back off a bit then try again', even if nothing else is on at all. It could be partially hardware, there are changes in the machines; but it might be something that can be solved w/ modifications to the stack. It's almost like a feedback loop. The more you use the connection the more it thinks it is competing w/ other machines for access and the slower it becomes. Try the usual, zap the pram, repair permissions, etc. There's a good link if you use search to a tutorial that may help you w/ some network connectivity issues on the mini. (moving out system configuration, promoting your primary connection to the top, using the assistant, rebooting and zapping the pram).
As easy as it seems to look at the firmware as the source of the problems, I haven't seen that as the foundation issue for either of the difficulties you are experiencing with your machine.
Hopefully a few simple resets and permission repairs etc will remedy the issue.
    Good Luck,
    -j

  • Help..I updated my iphone4 to iOS to 7.1.1 from 6.1.3 at last stage of firmware upgrading throwing an error 16 and stuck in recovery mode.

    HIAll
I waited so long not to update of my iphone4 to 7.x.x because of bugs and not much stable for iPhone4 and many reviews from friends saying phone is very slow and many bugs but after release of iOS 7.1.1 of many improvements for iphone4. I tried to update my iphone4 to 7.1.1 through iTunes at last stage of firmware upgrading its showing an error occurred error (16). I checked in internet error16 is purely hardware issue before my phone is very good condition in iOS6.1.3 no problem with my phone, But after upgrading to how it will be hardware issues. why Apple engineers are not testing properly their software’s before releasing great updates to customers now my phone is out of warranty and I can’t use it anymore just showing iTunes symbol and charger on the screen while on/off showing apple logo. From the past September there is no proper solution for error 16. Don’t know  what these people are doing about that error why apple is crashing customer phones by releasing useless update to phones what is the point of buying such a expensive phones don't know what to do with this phone. Tried many possible ways
Tried: presing home+power button at 95% of  firmware update
              Disconnected battery and restored
              used DrPhone to restart
tried to restore old version 7.x.x
              no luck.
              used new original cables
              restored with Macbook
tried to restore in 3 Different computers and so many times but  no luck

Hi, to get your iPhone  4 back to normal, here're two ways for you.
    1.  Use Dr.Fone for iOS. The free trial version can fix iPhone screen of death. The free trial version can do that, you don't have to pay.
Just download and install this software on your computer and connect your iPhone 4 to computer with a USB cable. When it detects your iPhone 4 is abnormal, click Restart the device to get your iPhone 4 to be normal.
    2. Use iTunes to fix it.
Step 1. Make sure that the latest iTunes is installed on your computer.
Step 2. Plug into a USB cable to connect your iPhone4 to computer.
Step 3. Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time for about 10s.
Step 4. 10 seconds later, release the sleep/wake button. But continue to hold the home button until a message comes out, saying "iTunes has discovered an iPhone 4 in recovery mode, you must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes".
Step 5. Click your iPhone 4 in the left sidebar to show the device control panel on the right. Then, click Summary.
Step 6. Go to Backups section and click Restore Backup.... In the drop-down list, choose a backup file and restore to your iPhone 4
