BEFW11S4 v2 diag light

I've just upgraded my BEFW11S4 V2 to the latest (and supposedly correct) version of the firmware (v1.45.10). Upgrade said it completed successfully but now my Diag light is flashing and I can't get to the configuration web page.
I have tried re-flashing as per FAQ Answer 517 (using tftp and slower connection). Same result - says it finished okay, but problem is still there.
Ideas of how to correct this? Or is it bricked? I'd love to try re-flashing an older version (or the original) firmware. Any idea where I can find a copy?

You can find the older firmware's here.

  • DIAG LIGHT FLASHING

I have tried unsuccessfully to recover my RV042 to a usable state.  The diag light blinks and Ive tried several ways to upgrade the firmware by holding the reset for 30 or more seconds.  I also cannot find anywhere this TFTP tool for the RV042 that people are talking about.  And so I'm stuck with a blinking led driving me crazy. Do I just dump this router and buy a new one or a better one?  Up to this point I was very happy with the features and capabilities.

red diag light means bad news..
contrary to what chickmagnet said, resetting the router for 1 min would be good but not forever. it may work but just for the time being. then try to get the firmware updated while your at it. if it already is, re-flash it. but do bear in mind that this will only be a temporary fix IF it works..
the best thing to do is to replace it with a new one so you would not have to go through that much hassle.

  • SA 520 Diag Light stays on

So I went to update the firmware on my SA520 last night and aparently something failed, the device restarted and now it doesn't respond to anything.  The Diag light stays light and the factory reset button does nothing no matter how long I hold it in.  Is there another way to reset the device?

    Hello Sean,
Is the device providing any port connectivity? If you had remote management enable, are you able to access the WAN of the device?
Without any port connectivity, unfortunately there is not a way to access the device.
You may call the SBSC for additional support any time as long as you have an entitled serial number and a Cisco user ID.

  • BEFW11S4 v3 WAN Diag and WLAN Act lights not lighting up

i dont know what is wrong with my computer. initially we purchased the BEFW11S4 v3 router to connect all of our computers to the internet. since it never worked we use the belkin router that came with our laptop. i would prefer to use the linksys router instead.
the problem is that every light will light up EXCEPT the WLAN Act light and the WAN diag light. if i reset the router the diag light will go red for a couple seconds but then turn off.
it is really frustrating because when i am trying to set it up, i can't access the internet for any troubleshooting help because the router will not work.
can someone tell me what i can do?

1)connect the computer to the router's port 1 and check the ip add on the computer..
2)if 192.168.1.x ... and the default gateway is 192.168.1.1 , ensure that the computer is able to ping 192.168.1.1 ..
3)if this works...connect the computer to the modem and go to www.linksys.com/download and download the firmware for the router
4)go to ftp.linksys.com/pub/network and download the tftp.exe file
5)connect the computer back to the router and run the tftp.exe file....here, the server is router's ip add .. password is router's password and then browse the firmware file and click upgrade
6)after the upgrade , reset the router for 30 seconds and do a power cycle

  • Linksys BEFW11S4 - dead?

Hello, I think my Linksys might be dead. One day i lost my internet connection so i restarted a router. After that Linksys does not react when i plug a cable to the WAN input or outputs. All i see is green Power LED and red Diag light. When I plug or unplug cables I see no reaction at all. When I type 192.168.1.1 I get an error 'Page not found'. I tried to ping it, but all attemps failed. I tried to reset it in many ways, but no success. Does it mean that my device is dead? Thanks

When the DIAG light on the router is lit, it could possibly mean that the firmware is corrupted. You can do this test to see if the router will still reply, that way you may proceed in performing a firmware upgrade afterwards.
    1. Disconnect the modem from the router.
    2. Connect a computer to an ethernet port of the router.
    3. Open the command prompt and type in ping 192.168.1.1
    4. While the router is powered on, press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds.
    5. Do not release the reset button, while still holding down the reset, unplug the power cord and leave it off for another 30 seconds.
    6. And still holding the reset button down, plug in the power cord for another 30 seconds.
    7. After the last 30 second reset, release the button and wait for the power light to go steady.
    8. During the reset process, check the command prompt and see if you got a reply. At any time that you see a response while pinging, release the reset button immediately and check if you can access the router interface.

  • BEFW11S4 V2 - hardware failing?

After more than 2 years continual usage ... it looks like my BEFW11S4 is dying.
I hadn't knowingly done anything dramatic to it (like upgrading firware) for a long time. However, yesterday morning I noticed that the activity lights on a couple of the links were flashing dimly and the WLAN light was no longer on (and I couldn't connect via WiFi).
The Diag light is now on solid (as is the Power and WAN Link).
I have tried to force it through the reset procedure (hard and soft) and have reset an ethernet card to 10Mb/half-duplex/static-ip in an attempt to get in and reload the firmware ... but unfortunately I am not getting any response out of it.
Is there any other way to force a reset - including warranty invalidating.
(I suspect that it is out of warranty anyway - and the cost plus hassle of returning it is probably not worth it).

I had tried short and long resets - with and without powering up with the reset button held down ... but had not tried for as long as 2 minutes on power-up ... and it worked!
The lights didn't change until I cycled the power again - but then ... everything was back working fine (at factory defaults).
Few minutes later and all reconfigured like I want it and everything is fine again.
Maybe worth updating hte FAQ to mention that a very very long reset (2 minutes) might work even when 30 seconds doesn't.

  • RV320 DMZ & DIAG are red upon power up, network is down.

Both the DMZ & DIAG are red when my RV was rebooted after it hung.
I am now unable to get an IP from the router.
Any advice how to proceed from here ?
    Thanks.
    Corrections: Only DIAG is red
additions : I have also performed a hard reset on the router. It is still in the same state, powered up but DIAG light is still red.

    Hi,
You can try to recover the firmware. from cisco.com. Download the firmware that you have present on the device. If you didn't notice the firmware version, download the latest firmware.
You may find the procedure in the end of the release notes. It is called "Firmware Recover Steps Using TFTP":

  • K7N2G-ILSR no POST beeps or diag led

    Hi,
I hope some of you experts can take the time to help me. I did a search and came up empty. I was bumping my FSB up tonight after installing some Kingston PC2700 2x512 sticks, trying to get my 2100+ Tbred a bit faster. I was doing fine with mem 1:1 and incremental FSB steps. I ws at 163 FSB, and when I set 164 FSB, and F10 to save, it seemed to lock up, not responding to keyboard with the "save and exit Y" window staring at me. I powered it off, but when I restarted it it did not boot or even do a POST beep. Just black screen and spinning up fans and hard drives. The diag bracket lights do not light up at all. I set the J10 and J11 to 100/133 user and 100 open, rebooted, and nada. I then unplugged, held power button for 30 sec., and set clear jumper. Set clear jumper back after a minute, plugged in power, and booted. Still the same, no POST beep and black screen. Did I ruin this board? How can I fix this? Any help would be appreciated, as I do not want to throw out this MB and buy a new one for what is probably a stupidly easy fix.
Put older, original memory back in, unplugged again, jumpered jbat1 again after power button hold, set jbat1 to normal, then popped CMOS battery, and still no damn LED lights or POST check being attempted on power up.
I posted over at nforcershq, and here, hoping to find someone with an answer for me. I am at a loss and am not sure where to go next. Please help!

    Richard,
First let me thank you for lending a hand. That in itself helps a lot.
I had allready replaced the new Kingston with the original DDR266/PC2100 2x256 Infinion(?) memory which I have run for the past year without issues, but did not make that clear enough in my initial post (sorry). I followed your suggestions, and removed the battery and plug out for 15 minutes, then put them back in, set the jbat1 to clear for 15 seconds for good measure and back to normal, powered it up, and nothing. No beep, no led diag lights at all. I then removed one stick of the original 256MB sticks at a time, powering up after each stick removal, and no change.
I think one of the keys to all this was the original hang at the BIOS save Y/N? screen, and my power down in that hung state. The lack of LED indicators makes me very worried. Any other suggestions?

    History.
Linksys released the 4.30 firmwares for the WRT54GL model which are compatible with the WRT54Gv1-v4.
I guess some people were confused to see WRT54GL on the web interface of the router although they had a WRT54G.
Thus they re-released the firmware for the WRT54Gv1-v4 with 4.21.* showing the correct model name.
You should be able to use either firmware for either router. If you check the release notes of 4.21.* and 4.30.* you'll notice that they basically have the identical history of changes. 4.30 is now a little bit more advanced if you look on the WRT54GL downloads page.

  • Get configuration from dead RV082?

I really hope that there is a solution to this problem. I have an old RV082 that I suppose has failed. The red diag light on the front panel is lit and nothing works. I've already replaced the unit, so I don't really need to fix it. Here's my issue: the setup on the old unit was pretty complex with a number of port forwards and other non-default settings. I'd like to recreate those items on my new router, but they were never written down so I don't know what they were. I've tried to connect a computer to one of the LAN ports, but they're all dead. Is there any way to get at the configuration page? I'm desperate enough that I'd pay to get the unit repaired, but I'm guessing that there's no way to fix it that would preserve the settings. Is that right? Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Regards,
    Robert

Hi Robert, if you had remote management enabled on the router, you may be able to try to access the router over the WAN if you happen to know the WAN IP or if the router had a static WAN configuration.
If the LAN and WAN ports are not operational, I'm afraid there is not much to do, as the RV0XX firmware utility requires the router to be ping-able on the 192.168.1.0 network.

  • For all those who have trouble with their router. STICCY THIS!

    1.) Clicc HERE
    (ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/)
and download the file named "tftp.exe".
2.) Clicc HERE and download YOUR, AND I REPEAT YOUR AND I MUST REPEAT AGAIN, YOUR ROUTER'S LATEST FIRMWARE. Please for the love a God, Allah, Jah, or whoever you look up to. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DOWNLOAD THE RIGHT FIRMWARE. If you don't know what version or model router you have, look at your router's home page or you can actually look at your router with your eye. Voila! You now know your router's model/version. Download the lastest firmware for your router.
    -----------------------**IMPORTANT**------------------------------------------------*************-------------------------
It is strongly suggested that you remove all connections from your router except the one for the computer you are using! Not removing the other connections from the router can cause a corrupted firmware, and the dreaded flashing diag light.
3.) Double clicc on/open up the TFTP.exe file. Enter your password (admin if you haven't changed it), use the browse feature to find the (latest)firmware you just downloaded. Then, click on "upgrade". You should see a progress bar, then the message that you have successfully upgraded your router.

I have a WRT54G ver.6. It works perfectly with a windowns PC but not for my Mac. I have high signal but no internet. Do you know if this model is not compatible with Macs? thank you Simone

  • What version of frimware is the latest. 4.30.5 or 4.21.1

From my last upgrade it had this information below.
If you go to web site and pick WRT54G Version 4, It show you that version 4.21.1 is the latest.
Linksys, A division of Cisco Systems, Inc.
    Product:                WRT54G
    Classification:         Firmware Release History
    Firmware  Date:  04/27/2006
    Release Date:           05/25/2006
    Last Firmware Version: 4.30.5
    Firmware 4.30.5
    - Resolves UPnP vulnerability reported by SANE
    Firmware 4.30.2
    - Resolves issue with filter name
    - Resolves issue where service name for PPPoE cannot be added
    - Resolves issue with detecting UHP modems
    - Resolves issue where DynDNS Custom and Static accounts cannot be used
    - Resolves issue with WEP passphrase not recognizing spaces
    Firmware 4.20.7
    - Resolved issue with SecureEasySetup button delay
    - Resolved issue with SecureEasySetup overwritting current wireless settings
    - Resolved issue with not being able to disable SecureEasySetup button
    - Resolved issue with Diag light being constantly lit after upgrading to 4.20.6 on v.1 hardware
    - Resolved issue with iDefense security vulnerability
    - Resolved issue with L2TP disconnect
    - Resolved issue with SecureEastsetup long button push not resetting wireless settings

The WRT54Gv1-4 and the WRT54GL use the same hardware platform and are firmware compatible. Initially, Linksys released the latest firmware 4.30.something for the WRT54G which was the one for the WRT54GL and shows WRT54GL on the web configuration interface http://192.168.1.1/
I guess some people got confused or worried thus they re-released basically the same firmware for the WRT54G which shows WRT54G correctly as 4.21.something.
If you compare the firmware version history for the WRT54Gv4 and the WRT54GL you'll notice that they basically fix all the identical list of issues. You can use either firmware. They should all work the same.
Thus, to update to the latest firmware for your router get the 4.21.1 which fixes a few issues and should show the correct model of your router. 4.30.9 should be basically the same but for the WRT54GL. The WRT54GL now even has a 4.30.11. I guess that should also work on your router.

  • WRVS4400N reset ?

just bought a Linksys Wireless Router (WRVS4400N) and updated the firmware but once the router rebooted... the red DIAG light turned on and it stays on..... i tried resetting the router but it it doesn't seem to get this router configured correctly and can't access the configuration screen. Any other solution to this or is the router defective ?

if the red diag light is on that means that the firmware upgrade failed you can do the firmware upgrade again provided that you can still ping the router. you can either tftp the file using the command promtp or get a tftp.exe file on this ftp site ftp.linksys.com

  • RV042 Firmware flash utility

Where has this tool gone? I have tried to flashing the RV042 it by telnetting to the router but it does not seem to work. It accepts the flash but afterward it still gives a solid diag light, no dhcp and no web utility access. I would like to try the utiliy if you could provide a working link to it or another solution.
    Thanks
    Ben

I managed to get this working. I found a copy of the flash utility here:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/routers/ps9923/ps9925/RV042_Firmware.zip
I could not find it anywhere on the cisco site but the DDWRT wiki had a link to it.
Here is what I did. Assign the PC an IP of 192.168.1.5
Hold down the reset button with the power unplgged on the RV042.
Plug the unit in while still holding the reset button, after 4-5 seconds when the orange diag is flashing let go of the reset button, the router is ready to receive the TFTP
Run the RV042_1.3.7.2_050727.exe (TFTP upgrade utility)
