Befw11s4 v2 firmware upgrade using mac os x?

How might I upgrade the firmware on a linksys befw11s4 v2 wireless router using mac os x?
Thanks,
Harry

Thiis an old thread, but maybe the next person will see this:
It is not necesary to extract the .bin file on a Mac to upgrade your firmware. Just browse to the .bin file where you downloaded it to begin the firmware upgrade.
See gv's thread here: http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Routers&message.id=19173#M1...

i clicked the update next to the firmware upgrade 1.6 option in app store, it is now stuck on "checking for new updates", i can't shutdown or anything, it says you must wait for os updates to complete before shutting down.  the message has been displayed for the last 6 hours.  anybody got any pointers, have contacted apple, but they are closed in the uk now, US care are trying to call but can't seem to get through to me.

You can force quit the app store and load it down manually.  See this thread for a link.

  • BEFW11S4 V2 Firmware upgrade problems

I am trying to upgrade my firmware on my BEFW11S4 V2 because I am having difficulty maintaining a connection to Entropia Universe.
I read the instructions carefully, but they refer to a zip file and when I download the firmware it is not a zipfile at all, but a bin file.  I assume that this is the file I need so I put the location in the box on the upgrade page using the browse button and then click the upgrade button.  It looks like it's going to do its thing, but after one cycle of the blue line and about halfway through on the second time I get a message about an invalid code pattern.
The current firmware version is 1.44 from November of 2002 and I am trying to upgrade to 1.45.10.  The actual file name that I downloaded is
befw11s4v3[1].2_v1.45.10_fw.bin and it is on my desktop.
Thinking that I may have got a bad download, I downloaded it again -- same results.
    What am I doing wrong?

well....go to www.linksys.com/download and download the setup wizard ....
connect a computer to one of the LAN ports on the router...on th computer go to network connections >> right click LAN >>properties >> configure >> Advanced >> under the properties column select Link Speed >> 10 Mbps Half Duplex Mode.....
Assign a static ip add to the computer.. 192.168.1.10 and default gateway 192.168.1.1 ...
run the setupwizard.exe file .. here the server is the router's ip add i.e 192.168.1.1 , password is router's password ( by default "admin") and browse the firmware file and click upgrade....
also , ensure that the firewall is disabled on the computer..

  • BEFW11S4 v4 firmware upgrade from 1.45.3 to 1.52.02 failing

I've been having some problems with my router resetting so I decided to upgrade the firmware.  I'm currently on version 1.45.3, Jul 1 2003 and I wanted to update to 1.52.02  4/07/2005.  I downloaded befw11s4_v4_v1.52.02_000_FCC_code.bin from Linksys' site and selected it at http://192.168.1.1/Upgrade.htm.  The progress bar will start to move and when it reaches about 75% I'm redirected to http://192.168.1.1/Upgrade.cgi which is a blank white screen .  If I go back to http://192.168.1.1/ and check the firmware version I see 1.45.3 still. Does anyone have any idea what is going wrong?
    Solved!

So I just went ahead and called the dreaded customer service.....turns out the filename just needs to be changed. There are 3 easy steps to fix this problem.
    1. If its on your desktop the name should appear as BEFW11S4-v4_v1.52.02_fw,0 change it to befw11s4_v4_1.52.02_000_FCC_code.bin
    2. Go to your upgrade firmware screen, click browse to get the file with the new name
    3. Click upgrade and be happy that it worked!!

  • Recent upgrade using mac totally freezes - no menu to choose and doesn't respond to clicks or typing.

Just had FF4 update on Mac (OS 10.6). Upon opening, I can get first web page and that is all. After about 10 secs it freezes/ hangs. The menu disappears with the exception of the file menu. When I go to preferences section I can see the rest of the menus, but the moment I am done in preferences section the other menus disappears.
In addition, I can't open any new tabs or windows. Basically can't do anything and I am leaning towards reinstalling FF3.
    What's gone wrong?

    > The laptop is 6 months old, on warranty, with original software and I treat it gently (never fell etc). The nearest authorized service is way to far from my place and I can't be left without the computer right now (exams session). What can I do to check the laptop by myself (I don't mean dismantling, i'm a girl)? Maybe some software that I could run and it will report any errors? Any ideas what that sound was?
Such sound could be developed by different parts.
Generally its not easy to say whats wrong exactly.
In most cases we can only assume (like the user pyoc1_1 ) but this are only own, personal suggestions.
The strange sound could be developed by HDD or by cooling module.
Like Luke suggested, the HDD can be tested using the software Drive Fitness Test but the cooling modules can be tested just only by a Toshiba ASP.
I understand that the nearest ASP is far away but I think you should still contact the guys in order to get more details how to handle this issue. I mean the notebook is covered by warranty so everything should be done for free.
I would strongly recommend containing the ASP in your country.

  • Firmware upgrade killed my superdrive

I just installed the new superdrive firmware upgrade using software update, and it killed my superdrive. It does not make any sound (normally it would make a disengaging and engaging sound when rebooting) and I cannot insert a disc (it doesn't pull it in when I try).
My MacBook is 13 months old.
    System Profiler says:
    MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857:
    Firmware Revision: 0009

I did not try to use my superdrive yet (I am scared after reading all the other messages...), but since I got the new download of firmware last week, every time I turn on the computer, I get the following message: "No Update Devices Found. No devices were found that require this firmware update" and then the option to press "quit" is given...
What is that? I am sure there is something wrong with it. It looks like some of those obscure popups that show up on PCs and nobody knows how to get rid of them.... I hope my Mac does not start behaving like a PC...

  • Firmware upgrade 1.3.0.62 -- 1.3.5.58 (SG 300-28P)

Should i be concerned doing the firmware upgrade remotely? I.e. remote to a local workstation and connecting to SG 300-28P from that workstation over LAN and doing firmware upgrade using WebGUI (Google Chrome)?
I've done the multiple upgrades on these switches this way and never had an issue.
However, Release Notes for 1.3.5.58 have some notice regarding boot image and I am concerned that configuration can be lost after the upgrade and if this is the case I'd be screwed since I won't be able to get on the switch to load the custom config after the fact.
Anyone who's done this upgrade please report if your configuration settings were left in place after the upgrade to 1.3.5.58.

    Cameron hi,
Interesting input about loss of VLAN configuration while upgrading version. Is this the 1st time you see this issue, or does it happen also during regular reload of the switch?
Also - some question which can may provide additonal informaiton on issue  (if you can provide these):
    1) Did the issue happen on a port connected to another switch (an uplink port)? - If so what is the neigbor switch type?
    2) would it be possible for you to to provide running and startup config before and after reload (of course without security sensative details).
    3) Can you provide outputs of show CDP neighbors (detail)  before and after reboot?
    Thanks

  • Nokia n80 firmware upgrade problems

Hi all i just tried to do a firmware upgrade using the nokia sites stuff and my pc crashed and now my fone wont turn on could some1 please tell me
    1 if this is terminal
2 if i can sort this out myself
3 point me in the right direction for the info i need to sort out my 3 week fone
4 how much i should expect to pay if i HAVE to go to a shop to get it sorted
thanks in advance for any help given

Right first thing I would try is to connect your mobile to your pc and try running NSU again. If it connects to your N80 great you should be able to just start over.
(Tips: Run only the NSU on PC close all other programmes down. and ensure your N80 is charged fully or at least plug your charger into the N80 whilst doing the update.)
If your N80 Isn't recognised by the NSU then its dead and the only way go revive the poor little things is to:
1: Take is to a Nokia Service Centre. Carphone warehouse is usually your closest NSC, If your lucky they will have an 'on site' techinician and he will fix your N80 within an hour or same day, if not then you will have to leave it with them for a week or so.
2: Call your Service provider, tell them your N80 just went bye bye and they should swap it for you or at least give you a refurbished N80.
You won't be charged by the Nokia Service Centre for any work done as your within your warrenty and if you choose to go back to your service provider you should also be covered. This has happened to me and I sent my N80 back to O2 they had a refurbished model sent back to me within a couple of days with no charges.

  • How do I find firmware upgrades for a 1.66 Mac mini, or any mac

We have a Mac Mini 1.66 processor. I have updated all of the software, but notice that there are no firmware updates. How do you find applicable firmware updates? I looked at my son's Macbook Pro and see that there is a Mac Mini firmware update listed and when you click on it, it says that it is not applicable to that machine. He used the migration utility to move from the Mac Mini to the Macbook Pro. My guess is that the Mac Mini is marked somewhere as having the firmware upgrade even though we did a complete install from scratch of the OS after he moved to his Macbook Pro. The re-install took the Macbook back to Tiger and then up to Leopard. I would like to get everything up to date before upgrading to Snow Leopard. As an aside, I would assume I can delete the file if it is allowed on the MacBook Pro that references the firmware for the Mac Mini since it says it is not applicable.

If no firmware updates appears via Software Update, then it's probable that there are none applicable to your model of Mac. The most recent firmware update, probably the one your son is seeing, applies only to the 2009 Mac mini. You can, if you wish, look up a list of all updates released for any model of Mac mini here:

  • Firmware upgrade for BEFW11S4

I want to make sure I have the latest firmware for my BEFW11S4 but the upgrade instructions are out-of-date. They refer to the zip file but it's actually a bin file.
Even more frustrating, searching for other people  who've had the identical problem turns up a non-senscial answer (how could he have used the auto-config tool successfully if the tool doesn't support the BEFW11S4 router???)
So, how do I upgrade my BEFW11S4v2 firmware?

You should not download firmware files from any other website then from linksys. Those routers run linux. The source code is available for download. Downloading firmware from other web sites may be a risk. You may download a firmware with malware, backdoors or worse installed.
The official latest firmware from linksys u.s. for your router is befw11s4v3.2_v1.45.10_fw.bin. If you have found some other zipped firmware file that is definitively not the "original" one. The only original one is the one from the linksys web site. The other one may be simply zipped by someone. Or it is something else.
The latest firmware file is available from linksys. It does not matter whether the file is zipped or not. You download the file. If it is zipped you unzip it. If it is not zipped (i.e. it is .bin as in your case) you simply use that file and upload it to the router through http://192.168.1.1/ I highly recommend to download the correct firmware file from the linksys web site and install it as I have told you before.

  • Problems w/ BEFW11S4 V.2 Wireless router (Firmware Upgrade & Wireless connectivity)

    HI Everyone,
I figurd I try this before I went out an bought a new wireless router.
     I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 v.2 wireless router/4port switch and I have (2) issues.
1st, on the HELP screen I have no link to 'upgrade firmware' - (currently using v1.40.2 Nov 28, 2001). I'v etried to download the uprgade and I have the .bin file saved, but have no idea how to upgrade without the UPGRADE link in Help.
    Any ideas???
2nd, my wireless conenctions won't work (hence the reason I'm trying to uprgade the firmware - was hoping this might fix the wireless issue).
I have reset the device (reset button to factory defaults and currently have NO security setup for wireless - until I can get conenctivity working again).
Again, any ideas or experience with getting these sorts of problems resolved would be greatly appreciiated!
Thanks for reading this and for any help you might be able to provide.
    P

Were you able to get your issues fixed?  I too have had some connection issues with the same router, although mine is V.4.  On mine I would loose all connectivity, not just wireless, at random times.  It seems like it would happen a lot when I would use the wireless for my laptop (i.e. when I would bring it out of sleep mode).  I have also had it happen with streaming media.  The only way I can fix this issue is to power down the router for a couple seconds and then it's fine, until it happens again.  I had two different guys from Linksys (try to) help me and I did everything they recommended and it still does it.
Hopefully you don't have the same issue...

  • BEFW11S4 constant disconnect after firmware upgrade

I was having trouble with my router losing connection every 2 hours or so . I have downloaded and installed the latest firmware and now it keeps disconnecting almost every 30 min. I have a static IP on my main pc and dhcp enabled for my xbox360. I have checked the cables if they were bad by swapping them but the problem was still there. Any help would be very much appreciated.

After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch.  If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
Also, please list all the static LAN IP addresses that you are using on your network.
If you are not using the default DHCP server range of 192.168.1.100  thru  192.168.1.149 , then please state your DHCP server range.
Are you running any peer-to-peer (P2P) software?  If so, this is a known cause for router slow downs and disconnections.  Temporarily stop using the P2P software, then reboot router, and see if this corrects your problem.
Who is your ISP?  Are you on a cable system?  Some cable systems monitor the MAC address of the devices connected to them, and eventually boot off any MAC address they don't recognize.  If you are on a cable modem, try cloning your MAC address (done in the router), and see if this corrects the problem.

  • Is there going to be a firmware upgrade for mountain lion customers that have a Macbook with a soild state drive so we can use the Power Nap feature?

Is there going to be a firmware upgrade for mountain lion customers that have a Macbook with a soild state drive so we can use the Power Nap feature?

    here: http://www.apple.com/osx/whats-new/
"Power Nap requires a Mac notebook with built-in flash storage. May require a firmware update."
We have to wait for the Firmware-Updates. Some are already here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5394
And I am shure, that you will need for Power Nap one of the newer Macs with SSD from 2011 and 2012.
