  • How to get online apps to work with the Verizon DSL modem firewall set at "Medium" level, not "Low?"

How to get online apps to work with the Verizon DSL modem firewall set at “Medium” level? Xbox 360 Live, FTP, and the Windows sntp Time checker native to Windows XP WON’T WORK unless the Verizon firewall is first reset down to “Low.” Then all works well, but I then risk low firewall protection. Setup: · Westell 6100 DSL modem (Software Version: VER:4.04.03.00 Transceiver Revision: 7.2.3.0 Model Name: C90-610015-06), · D-Link DIR-655 wireless router (Hardware Version: A3, Firmware Version: 1.21), For Xbox 360 Live the “canned” port forwarding rule for provided in Verizon’s drop-down list for the Westell 6100 modem forwards ports 88 and 3074 for both TCP and UDP. This does not meet Microsoft’s forwarding recommendations for Xbox 360 Live stated at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908874. Instead, for the Verizon modem (Westell) I made a new port forwarding rule to comply with those Microsoft instructions. It forwards ports 53, 80 and 3074 for TCP and ports 53, 88 and 3074 for UDP. These same ports are also forwarded in the D-Link router configuration. For FTP, port 21 is also forwarded for TCP and UDP in both modem and router. But they don’t work until I first cripple the Verizon firewall down to “Low.” How to get them to work with the Verizon firewall up to Medium?

While I do not know the answer to your question, BUT since you have this modem and another router - you could just follow.

  • Connecting a WRT54G Wireless Broadband Router to a Westell DSL Modem

For some reason I can't get my wireless router to finalize the last step on installation on my desktop. I followed all the tutorials from the linksys help center and I still can't get the router to install correctly. I did ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew. I made sure the IP address was in the 169.xxxxx range. Changed the default IP on the web based utility from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1  . When I changed all of the info mentioned before I could get internet service to my base computer, but I could not get passed the last step of installing the router and no wireless to any laptops. I have done everything by the book and it still doesn't work. If there is anyone that could help me, I would really appreciate it. I have DSL Internet service throught AT&T. My router is a WRT54G and my DSL Modem is a Westell Modem, Its black square shaped with five lights on the front.

  • Is it possible to use an Airport Extreme router with AT&T 2Wire modem/router?

My AT&T 2Wire modem/router does not have great range, speed, or compatibility with my Macbook and iMac.  I bought an Apple Airport Extreme to try to remedy my problem, however, I did not realize it was purely a router.  Is it possible to use the 2Wire modem/router as just a pure modem and connect it to the Airport Extreme?  Would it be more beneficial to purchase a new modem that does not have wireless functionality?  I have looked at previous posts but couldn't find any definite answers.  Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!!  Thanks!

The easiest route to take here would be to simply turn off the wireless function on the 2-Wire modem/router and then configure the AirPort Extreme in Bridge Mode to provide a dual band wireless network.
If the 2-Wire performance shortcomings are the result of other wireless interference issues at your location, unfortunately the AirPort Extreme may not perform any better, wireless wise.  It's not possible to know things like this in advance....more of a case of you won't know until you try.
In theory, it might be possible to configure the 2-Wire product as a simple modem...but I doubt that AT&T would be willing to tell you how to do this or provide support in the event of problems.
It's getting to be hard to find a simple DSL modem these days, and even if you do, it will have to be re-configured as a Bridge to work correctly with the AirPort Extreme, so that complicates things as well.

  • IMac compatibility with a Zyxel DSL modem

I installed a new Zyxel DSL modem connected to a Time Capsule with an ethernet cable with the TC creating my wireless network.  My iMac connects perfectly with the TC's wireless network, but the moment I switch on the Zyxel model to provide internet access, my iMac gets a beach ball that never stops spinning.  Are there compatibility issues between the Zyxel DSL modems and an iMac, or do I have settings on my iMac or Zyxel modem that causes some sort of conflict that causes my iMac to hang?  I've never had a problem before with my iMac hanging, it's been as solid as the rock of Gibraltar!

I've used the brand in the past
routers don't rely on drivers so routers follow the std of ethernet
I would expect it to be 100% transparent for a computer what router was
    using from
    a mac
    to a
computer running windows 3.11 from the 90's
    to a windows 8.1 computer
    to a linux computer
the ethernet tcp/ip packets sendt are the same no matter what device send them

  • New AE Won't Work With Old Verizon DSL Modem

I'm trying to set up a new AE station for a friend. She had an Airport station that worked fine. The DSL modem is like 6 years old or something. Of course I've tried calling Verizon, but am on hold forever. Is it possible the modem is too old? I've looked at ports, all settings I can think of, but nothing. I've set up as many as a hundred of these, so have some experience. Just hoping for some feedback 'till I talk to them. It's PB 12" with 10.4.3 running. It's brand new. When I put the old station back, no problem. Any help is appreciated.

With the old base station connected open Airport Admin Utility and "Save a copy as..." something. Connect the new one and import that configuration. If it is really old that won't work but it is worth a try.
Is PPPoE needed for the DSL connection?
Have you powered everything down and slowly brought them back (modem, AE, and computer)? Sometimes it takes a while for an ISP to recognize a new network device as valid.

  • How to user E4200 as router with WAG120N as a modem ONLY

I've both WAG120N and E4200, I want to use WAG120N as ONLY ADSL modem (no DHCP server or any other setting) and let the E4200 to the rest.
What option should I select in E4200 Internet connection type to make this?

The setup that you want may be possible but please add more info like who is your ISP and from what region. The reason for that is to identify as well if you can set the ADSL gateway to just a plain modem. It totally depends also on your ISP settings. In the meantime you can check this article from the Linksys KB site:

  • Trouble connecting a BEFW11S4 to a netopia dsl modem

    hi,
I'm trying to connect my BEFW11S4 router to a netopia dsl modem via an ethernet cable.  The router doesn't seem to be able to get an ip from the modem.  the modem's log doesn't even show any attempts from the router   Any ideas for what to try?
I just want to extend the wireless network that i have already from the netopia, whether via bridging or routing, i don't care.
    thanx,
    steev
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks but I've already tried what's described. I've tried it with 2 different 2nd routers.
One weird thing I observed with my latest attempts is that once I got the 2nd router on the same subnet, connected to the 1st router via LAN ports,  I could actually ping the 1st router from behind the 2nd, only with something like 80% packet loss. In fact I could ping out to the internet but also with 80 to 90 percent packet loss, and no http. And I can't ping the 2nd router from the Netopia (the Netopia has a little ping utility on it)
here's another possible clue: in the Netopia log there are entries like this:
00:00:15:20 LHD: Interface  Eth 100BT, State offline
    00:00:15:20 LHD: IP  192.168.0.2, MAC 00-0c-41-4f-f0-fe
00:00:15:19 LHD: Interface  Eth 100BT, State suspect
    00:00:15:19 LHD: IP  192.168.0.6, MAC 00-23-32-2f-52-f9
00:00:15:19 LHD: Interface  Eth 100BT, State suspect
    00:00:15:19 LHD: IP  192.168.0.2, MAC 00-0c-41-4f-f0-fe
00:00:11:45 LHD: Interface  Eth 100BT, State online
    00:00:11:45 LHD: IP  192.168.0.77, MAC 00-23-32-2f-52-f8
.77 is a host connected directly to the Netopia.
.2 is the 2nd router (connected via a LAN port).
.6 was the machine i was pinging from (connected to a port of the 2nd router).
What's the 'state suspect' business? Could the Netopia somehow be not "trusting" the connection from the 2nd router, for some reason? Or...?
It seems like this has to be some problem with the Netopia, because the same thing happens with 2 different 2nd routers a linksys and a netgear, and the linksys worked fine when i was using it behind a motorola cable modem.  the thing is, the Netopia is brand new and provided by Qwest...

    Thanks in advance.

Both the remote and hub router will detect existence of NAT device in between, which caused the both routers switching over from UDP port 500 to UDP port 4500 to exchange IKE message. I can suspect there is no switch over taking place from you log(both using UDP 500), So I suggest you validate if both routers support NAT-T feature by checking if they are listening on UDP port 4500?

  • DSL Modem and Wireless Router problems

I started to have problems on Tuesday.
    My Equipment is:
Dell Precision 870 PC with a Intel Pro network card
Apple IMAC with the Apple Lan connection
    Lynksys/Cisco E3000 (Problem started with a Linksys WRT610N router)
    Verizon (Actiontec) GT701C DSL modem
I came down to my office and I noticed that the DSL light on my modem was not lit.  In the past
this has ment that there is a problem in the Central Office.  Later in the day I got hold of Verizon
tech support and we got the DSL running again with the modem connected to either computer.
When I connect the router to the modem and the computers to the router, Dell via wire and Apple
via wireless 5.0 GHz 802.11N inout and restart both the router and the modem, I get connectivity
through the router and the modem but the DSL light on the modem is not lit.  After a long period
of time the DSL light may come on then I loose connectivity.
Everything was working correctly til late Monday night/early Tuesday morning.
I have reset both the modem and routers to factory defaults several time.  I have a problem when
trying to get connectivity with the moden after setting it up again and it takes me to the Verizon
DSL startup site.  Tech support walked me throuogh using the "192.168.1.1/verizon/redirect" and
shutting the redirect off.  I then have connectivity as long as the router is not connected.
I thoought the router went so I just installed a new router, the Linksys/Cisco E3000, and I still
    have the DSL light problem.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Having both routers the same IP address is a little bit confusing, but possible since each router creates it's own subnet and provides full PNAT support. Actiontec DSL modem has to have DHCP enabled since Linksys WAN (not LAN) port should be connected to one of 4 Actiontec LAN ports. Linksys should not have any configuration setup in regards of your WAN account. Just set it to dynamic address. In ohter words:
    1. RJ-11 connect to Actiontec mode/router.
    2. Actiontec modem should be configured to acquire an IP address from Verizon and to provide all authentication info to Verizon.
    3. Actiontec modem should be configured to allow clients to acquire dynamic IP addresses -- DHCP enabled.
    4. Linsys WAN (not LAN!) port should be connected to Actiontec LAN port.
    5. Linksys should be configured to acquire dynamic IP address and no authentifacations.
    6. Configure Linksys to be DHCP enabled or you can use static IP addresss if you want.
    7. Wireless devices would be connected to Linksys and on the way to the Internet addresses would go through double NAT conversions. Any wired device connected to Linksys would have similar  features. Any device connected to Linksys should be able to connect 192.168.1.1 assigned to Linksys, but not to Actiontec.
    8. To be able to connect Linksys and Actiontec would no be able to communicate unless you split 192.168.1.0/24 into smaller subnets and set specific routes in the table. But even you do so you will not be able to access 192.168.1.1 accross subnets boundary.
    Hope it helps.

  • Connecting Timemachine to Verizon DSL modem/wirelss router

How can I successfully connect my Timemachine to a Verizon GT704WG DSL modem/wireless router? Set-up I tried: The DSL line (reg. phone wire) is connected to the Verizon device. I connected the Timemachine to the router via ethernet. On my Verizon Network (loggin in via the browser) I can see the device connected. But the Timemachine keeps blinking Orange (error I assume). I cannot see the device via my MacBook pro in AirPort Utility (when trying to open TimeMachine). I also cannot click on manual set-up (option not available - grayed out).
Question: Is it possible to connect Apple's Timemachine to another DSL wireless router via ethernet. Are there setting I must use to make the timemachine available, since the DSL router recognizes the device. How does one set this networking configureation up - or are there other devices I need as an intermitted relay - and will thise hamper troughput?
PS: My DSL router does not have a firewall set-up for the connection to the Timemachine. I allowed all rules for the device. DHCP is dynamic.
    Any advice is much appreciated.

Thank you Neturonboy for asking this question and thank you Tesserax for answering it. It's amazing that Verion's site has nothing about this; they do mention the Time Capsule, but nothing about this typical configuration. I have the GT784WNV model DSL modem/router, which is probably similar to yours. As soon as I turned Connection Sharring Off (Bridge Bode) and updated changes it worked.
However, I couldn't find where to do this at first using Mac OS X Lion. Luckily, I had an older laptop, which had the more familiar looking AirPort Utility version 5.4.2 you're talking about. After I had switched to Bridge Mode, I went back to Lion's version and could easily see where this setting is located. In Lion's (10.7.4) AirPort Utility, click on the image of your Time Capsule (there is no "Manual Setup" button in Lion), then select Network (not Internet), then change Router Mode (not Connection Sharing): to Off (Bridge Mode).
    About Guest Networks:
Note, if you have a Guest Network, then once you go to Bridge Mode, this feature is turned off; the whole Guest Network tab disappears from the choices under Airport (using the older AirPort Utility). Since these Verizon modem/routers are also wireless, your guests can access the network directly from  Verizon's router instead of going through your Time Capsule. Perhaps having a wireless router feature for your DSL modem makes the Time Capsule's Guest Network option redundant. You can get the network name, and other security information from the label on Verizon's router, but there is also a WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) feature that looks like it might be useful for sharing your network. There's a physical button on the modem and there's a settings page on the routers' web browser accessible settings at 192.168.1.1.. I'm still looking into this.
    Good luck!

Having trouble setting up a linksys WRT54GS router with verizon DSL using a westell 6100F modem. the modem works fine by its self  but the router will not connect  to the internet when installed like the cd tells you to.
online help and phone help has been less than helpful,  anyone have any Ideas?

Ok I found " Installing the liksys wireless router with a westell 6100 modem" in the verizon troubleshooting guides. printed the instructions so I would'nt forget. step 1 open your web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the address field.  PROBLEM it comes up with a login screen that I don't know how to sign into. tried the obvious stuff. cannot get past the login screen. I knew this sounded to easy to be true. anyone have any ideas?

  • Newbie-2 Mac Laptops, One AE, One Verizon DSL modem, VPN-Set Up?

I have read through the discussions here before I posted, but since I am new to Airport Express (AE) I may have missed the obvious.
Our household has two Mac laptops. I just purchased AE and am trying to figure out how to hook it up with my Verizon DSL modem.
Can I just use an ethernet cable from the DSL modem to AE? Or do I need some kind of switch?
Will two laptops (with Airport cards) be able to connect to the internet at the same time using AE?
One laptop has a VPN for work. Will there be issues with AE and that set up?
    Sorry for the dumb questions.

My question is how do I keep my Power PC connected to the DSL modem and set up the AE? There is only one ethernet port out. Do I need a hub?
No. Since the AirPort Express has only a single Ethernet port it can not connect to a broadband connection AND support a wired (Ethernet) client. Using a hub or switch between the broadband modem and AirPort Express will put the AirPort Express's DHCP server in direct conflict with your ISP's DHCP server. Your ISP won't like that.
    Your options are:
Replace the AirPort Express with an AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS), or an inexpensive 802.11b/g compliant base station. In addition to the WAN port, the AEBS provides one LAN port (an inexpensive base station will provide 4 or more) for connection to wired (Ethernet) clients.
Place a wired router between the broadband modem and the AirPort Express. Configure the AirPort Express so that the option to distribute IP addresses is DISABLED.

  • WAN Port disconnecting Ethernet between Gigaset 4300 DSL modem

I have a WRT400N setup as a wireless/wired router on a Windstream DSL modem.  The Ethernet light on the Modem keeps going out and it log's a disconnect.  At the same time, the internet connection light on the WRT400N goes out.  I disconnect the router from the network and connected the Windstream Gigaset 4300 Modem/Gateway directly to my PC.  No more problems.  Any idea on what setting would be making the WAN port ethernet connection act like a RTS/CTS lead in the old RS232 interface?
    Steve

The issue is between the DSL modem's ethernet port and the WRT400N's WAN port.  The light's on both the router's Internet connection and the modem's Ethernet port goes out, like the cable is being unpluged.  I have replaced the cable, so it's not that.  Naturally, all devices, both wired and wireless cease internet connectivity when this connection is open.  I have connected the DSL modem/gateway directly (via the same ethernet port) to two different computers and never lose this connection, which makes me think that the WRT400N is opening (disconnecting) the internet port at different intervals for some reason.  It happens both wireless connections and wired connections are using the internet.  As I type this, my PS3 (wireless G) is downloading a 1.4 gig demo and about every 30 sec. the ethernet light on the modem goes out, at the same time the internet light on the router goes out also.  It varies in time, some time as little as 10 sec. between disconnects, sometime it will stay connected for over 2 min.  It's a closed network with 3 wired connections (2 computers and Dish VIP922 DVR), several wireless connections (1 Computer via N adapter, Wii wireless G, PS3 Wireless G, Ipod touch Wireless G, 2 cell phones wireless G).  No QoS or port forwarding is in use.

  • Easy VPN on 1710 cisco router connected to a DSL using dyndns

I have a 1710 cisco router connected to a DSL modem at home. Dynamic DNS or dyndns is implemented on it and everything works fine. In order words, I do not have a static IP address.
I would like to be able to configure vpn or Easy VPN on it so that I can connect with my laptop from outside using the cisco vpn client software.
Can someone please post a step by step sample vpn configuration? Something that does not conflict with my configuration. Below is my config. Thanks in advance.
