BEFW11S4 v4 Frequent Drops

I have a desktop (2000 professional) and a labtop (windows vista) both running wireless.
Originally the desktop was wired and i had a labtop (windows xp) that had no drops.  Now that I have the desktop and new computer w/ vista both wireless, I experience frequent drops, that cause me to unplug and replug to connect.
I have been told that it is my wireless home phone that runs on a 2.4 frequency, that is causing the problem, and that I should upgrade to a 5.something frequency phone.
I have also read the messages here that states it has alot to do with firmware.  I'm not savvyist at networking but am open to suggestions/comments.
Thanks

I have the same exact issues.
It seems after I download files the router looses connection.
Usually it takes time (several hours) but it happens every day.
Please Advise.

  • MacBook Air + Time Capsule  frequently dropping internet connection

I too have been having frequently dropped wireless connections between my MacBook Air (MBA) and my Time Capsule(TC). My TC is connected to a cable modem and I also have an Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) at a different part of my house which is used to extend my network connecting via ethernet to a PC running VISTA, and wirelessly to a printer and an older MacBook. I also connect wirelessly to my home network with two iPhones, a Squeezebox 3 with a server running on the PC. I have an Apple TV and a Squeezebox 2 connected to my TC via ethernet.
When my connection drops I will either see a Time Capsule disconnect message or if I am surfing the web, the browser just hangs. The wireless ICON strength is still pegged a the max level. None of my other devices (wireless or ethernet) connected to the TC or the other AEBS seem to drop their internet connections. I can re-establish the connection on my MBA by either turning off my MBA's Airport wireless and then turning it back on or by running the network diagnostics. The latter method usually shows green lights for all but the "Internet" and the "Server" which will have yellow lights. Usually when I select my wireless network and press continue, it will prompt for my WPA2 password which I have to reenter even though I always check the box for it to remember the password in the keychain.
After reading the various discussions on disconnect problems and trying the various "solutions" I was still having the disconnect problem.
Last night, I decided to turn off my Time Capsule and was then able to maintain an internet connection for considerably longer than before. Perhaps it was one of the other "solutions" that caused that. After turning my TC back on, the disconnect problem reoccurred within about 5 minutes.
Next, I did my too frequent Time Capsule remedy which was to disconnect the power and then reconnect the power. (Seems like some of these devices (APPLE TV included) could use power switches.) I then deleted the .sparsebundle backup file on the Time Capsule. I was then able to restart Time Capsule backup and things have been running uninterrupted for over 12 hours...still backing up (20GB in 12 hours? Doesn't seem very fast!). I can report back later if this actually "fixes" my disconnect problems in the future. I am dubious that it will.
I have several questions about the MBA and the TC/Time Machine backup operation.
1.) I often forget about the TC when I close the lid on my MBA and haul it off to work. At work (connecting via ethernet), I will eventually get a TC disconnect error. But I am wondering if there are points in the backup process where a random disconnect will cause some sort of TC corruption. What is the recommended way of handling this? Should I always stop the Time Machine backup before turning off my MBA? (A nuisance if so!)
2.) What is happening when the TC backup operation stops functioning and hangs up the MBA's internet connection? (I see lots of messages logged in the system log when this happens; but, of course, I don't have much of a clue of which ones are normal and which are not normal. I could send a copy of the logs when it happens next (I am assuming it will).
Also one other anecdote. A few months back, I had taken another AEBS to my work to use during a training conference. My MBA kept dropping its connection while the other PC laptops in the room maintained their connections...(very embarrassing!). Maybe one of the other "solutions" would have fixed the problem or maybe if I had just turned off my Time Machine backup it would not have disconnected. I will repeat that exercise when I get a chance now that I have some things to try.
It seems pretty clear to me from my own experiences and the discussion reports of others that the disconnect problem lies in the MBA's wireless internet connection software or the configuration of it. It seems like it is having difficulty recovering from various wireless connection "mishaps".

Folks, I was having a very similar problem for the last 6 months. My connection was fine until June 2008, after which my Macbook and my Time Capsule would constantly conflict. If I rebooted or reset the TC, or the MB, things would be fine for a few minutes or sometimes a few hours and the problem would recur soon thereafter. About a month ago, I had to do a clean reinstall and the problem vanished for about 5 days, after which it reappeared. My MB never had a problem at work, or at someone else's home or with other routers, only with TC. Apple sent me a new TC, then they replaced my Airport card but the situation did not change ... UNTIL ABOUT AN HOUR AGO.
An hour ago, I called Apple for the nth time in the last 6 months, and the rep heard me out (just like the previous n-1 reps). He then asked me to to System Preferences --> Accounts --> Login Items and asked if Real Player Downloader showed up in my list. Indeed it did. He asked me to remove it, and told me that Apple had just figured out that the Real Player downloader was recently found to be causing a drop in the connection between Macbooks and the TC (as well Airport Express).
The problem I've been having baffled everyone. All the previous reps, the guys at the Genius Bars, nobody had a clue. Joe (the rep I spoke with this morning) seemed very confident that the removal of the Real Player Downloader from the list of login items would resolve the problem. So far, so good. My connection seems solid (its only been an hour, but earlier it would drop after 5 minutes of use).
I hope my problem that (literally!) used up hundreds of hours of my time has been finally resolved. I hope this solution will work for at least some of you as well. What gives me hope is that this solution is logically consistent with the history of my problems. I probably first downloaded Real Player in June 2008. And when I did a clean install, I remember downloading Real Player a few days after the reinstall. So I'm pretty hopeful that my issue has been finally resolved.
Shame on Real Player for putting out a defective piece of software. And thank you Joe!

  • In the past month or so my iPhone 5 battery is dying in hours, whereas it used to last all day at least.  Also, I am getting constant "message send failures" when texting and frequent dropped phone calls.

Just recently my Iphone 5 battery is dying in a just a few hours, it used to last all day or more.  I'm not doing anything different with it, although I have started shutting down apps etc. to conserve battery.  I get constant "message send failures and frequently dropped phone calls.

My best bet would be to restore the phone. Back it up to itunes, and then reset it Factory settings. This way, any corrupt software will be removed, and you can start fresh. Make sure you back it up first. By the sounds of it, you are using the phone for business and probably need the data from it. Hope this helps!

  • WRT610N Frequently Drops Wireless Connections

    Hi,
I have a WRT610N V1 that seems to have wireless issues. It frequently drops all of the wireless connection - not the IP address leases. An then we can't reconnect for some time, even after rebooting both the router and the modem. I just upgraded the firmware and did a full reset, but that didn't work either. Any ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

This could be caused by intereference with nearby routers.
Have you tried changing the channel on the router?

My iPad frequently drops wireless connection

    Try #5.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • What am I doing wrong?  Frequent drop-outs...

I have an new Airport Extreme Base Station and four Airport Express stations in my home on a WDS. My iMac has an external HD with my main iTunes Library on it, and I leave iTunes open all the time.
My AppleTV is not "Synced" with any library, but streams primarily from the iMac, as that's where all the content is.
When watching a movie, I get frequent drop outs where the video appears to be buffering, or pausing to catch up. The pause lasts for ten seconds or so, then resumes.
I can't stand it anymore. This system is supposed to work. What now?

Sounds like a flaky wireless connection somewhere in your network, particularly in this path:
    AppleTV< ~ ~ ~ >base station< ~ ~ ~ >iMac
Troubleshoot that area first (try bringing the Mac and/or AppleTV closer to the base station, or try connecting ethernet cable to one/or both..., don't use the microwave, cordless phone, etc...)

My airport express frequently drops the internet connection. Is there anything I can do ensure it maintains the internet connection?

    It is tricky..
But yes it can be done as long as you use a different IP subnet to what is being used for the internet..
So I need to know what modem router you have?? Does it have wireless as that would make it very easy?
What IP is the computer getting?
Then I can give you the details to setup wireless statically on a different subnet.

  • Frequent dropped connection on home router

I have been having this problem for a few weeks now. When I am at home my router drops the wireless connection to my MBP intermittently. Sometimes it is frequent and other times there are several minutes/hours between issues. Occasionally, I even have to reselect my router from the list of wireless networks on the airport menu bar.
I went into the system logs and found this information that may or may not be helpful, but seems related at least.

Just adding my two cents since the thread you reference is sooo long now. Glad I'm not the only one experiencing this.
I was at a hotel this week when I noticed the Airport going four bars, no bars, four bars, no bars. My iPod Touch had no problems at all. I gave up and went to bed (putting my MBP to sleep). In the morning it worked fine.
Now back home; I use a static IP (no DHCP) at home, and started seeing the same thing again. Here's what I see in /var/log/system.log (same thing I saw while on the road):

  • Broadband frequently dropping for a few seconds

been a customer since bb was brought into the area, had a few past local problems like a week or 2 back nobody in my area could connect, now the last few days i have frequently had my game sessions interupted by complete connection drops for seconds, bt home hubs api.home resets recieved and transmitted counters everytime this happens i have come here looking for a suggestion on how to go about resolving this problem and i thank any help in advance and will check here frequently

    Hi Tey,
    Welcome to the BT forum.
How are you connected to the internet?  Have you noticed a drop in speed at all? Usually if your connection keeps dropping the first thing to suffer is your broadband speed.
Please drop me an email to [email protected], include your BT account details and the link to this thread and I will run a few checks from my end.
    Cheers

  • My Macbook Pro frequently drops the wi-fi connection

Frequently (3 times/hour or so) my MacBook Pro will drop it's Wi-Fi connection. None of my other devices (iPhone) lose the connection - only the Macbook Pro. I'm running OS X 10.10.1 on my 15-in Macbook Pro (2012 version).
It will not come back by itself.
My SSID is still in the drop down list.
If I turn off wi-fi and turn it right back on, it reconnects immediately.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
    Jim

You have already narrowed down the issue to your MacBook Pro and/or Yosemite (10.10.1).
So, a post in the Yosemite support forum or the MacBook Pro forum would be the places to start.  Links are just below:
Since this is common issue with Yosemite, you might want to go there first.

  • BEFW11S4 - Internet connection drops

Thanks. BEFW11S4 it keeps "cutting" the internet conexcion, the wireless signal stays, just cuts the internet somehow. If you need a better way for me to say it (explaining it) just let me know, I'll do my best.

    Hi,
Always check the internet on the modem whenever the internet thru the router drops so to isolate the issue. If internet works fine from the modem straight to the pc then its the router. May I know the version your router. (Found this underneath the router next to the model no. at the bottom)

  • Wireless Keyboard frequently drops connection after MacBook repair

Just got my MacBook (1st gen, Core Duo) back from repair from an authorized service provider. They replaced the bottom and top case because of cracks. Since then my Apple Wireless Keyboard (the new one from summer '07) keeps dropping the connection every few minutes. I've never had these problems before (running 10.5.1). The weird thing is that the "connection lost" icons pops up but I can still type. Batteries are at 60% the keyboard is just a few inches away from the MacBook. Can this be related to the new top case?

    Hi Benedikt!
The Bluetooth module that allows your machine to communicate with the keyboard is located almost right above the opening to your optical drive on the right-hand side of the machine. It's possible that during reassembly the sensor was not reinserted properly or the short, thin, little wire that runs to the logic board was damaged just enough to "work sometimes."
As you just received it back, I'd recommend contacting the service provider and explain the issue that you're experiencing. The other option, if you have that available to you, is to try connecting another Bluetooth device to your machine and see if it too frequently loses connection. That way you can at least further determine if it's hardware related or peripheral related.

  • Aironet 1040 Series Apple frequently drops

I'm running Cisco Aironnet 1040 series routers and all my Apple computers (NOT iPhones or iPads just the computers) continue to get dropped by the routers. The time ranges anywhere from less than a minute to an hour, depending how many clients are connected. I have no trouble at all with any mobile devices and none with non apple computers. This has been going on since we've bought them last year. I'm trying to use WPA authentication. I've read forums and places where you can use MAC authentication and the problem seems to go away. That's not an ideal option for as many clients as I have on the network. I've attempted to update the software, revert the software and reset to default. Nothing has made any difference at all. I've also tried changing the channel it broadcasts on, with no luck. I've double checked the firmware on the Apple computers and they are up to date. My configuration is below.....Any ideas on what I can change or do I need to pursue a different router that isn't Cisco?

Going through the logs I see the MAC addresses of my computers that are disconnected with it saying:
*Mar 17 18:19:55.169: %DOT11-4-MAXRETRIES: Packet to client 74e5.43cf.b184 reached max retries, removing the client

*Mar 17 18:19:55.179: %DOT11-4-MAXRETRIES: Packet to client 80c1.6e1c.ef26 reached max retries, removing the client
Not sure if that helps at all or not. I see plenty of logs showing my computer connecting just fine and moving from one AP to another but it appears to timeout (rather quickly I might add) and drop the connection. So it's obviously something with the router. I can always connect right back to the network without a problem. It doesn't ask for a password or anything.

  • TS3406 Has anyone else experienced frequent dropped calls since the latest IOS upgrade?

I have experienced dropped calls since I upgraded my IOS a few weeks ago. Anyone else having the same problem?  AT&T blames Apple, Apple blames AT&T, I'm stuck in the middle.
    HELP?!?!?!?

    I'm with ATT and no.
I had a dropped call not long ago and it wasn't due to my iPhone or ATT. A friend with Sprint tried to call me while driving through a known low reception area with Sprint. Sprint dropped the call.

  • WRT54GL frequently drops WAN connection

    Hi,
I'm having a problem with my WRT54GL 1.1 router, namely it has a nasty habit of dropping WAN DSL connection. Firstly I attributed this to modem, but my ISP's tech support sent me a list of connection resets that are caused by the router not the modem. This happens about 20x a day, lasts for about 20 sec, then reconnect, works fine for a while and the whole cycle is repeated again. As you can imagine it is very frustrating.
I have the router upgraded to firmware rev. 4.30.11 and am using router's DHCP server.
Also: before you suggest it - I have connected my IskraTel Ganymede 822+ DSL modem directly to my PC and the connection is completely stable.
    Any suggestion would be appreciated.
    With kind regards,
    Bostjan Ursic

It is difficult to be sure from the documentation, but it appears that your "DSL modem"  is actually a "DSL modem router", and it uses the same 192.168.1.x  subnet as the WRT54GL.
To fix your problem, you will need to make one or more changes.  First, power down your entire network, then disconnect the WRT54GL from your modem.  Then wire one computer to a LAN port on the WRT54GL, and login to the WRT54GL.  Change the "Local IP address" to 192.168.2.1   Then click the "Save Settings" button and wait (3 to 60 seconds) for the screen to refresh.  You will likely be disconnected from the WRT54GL.  This is normal, so do not worry about that.  Power down your entire network.
Next, using an ethernet cable, connect one of the LAN ports on the "modem"  to the Internet port of the WRT54GL.   Boot up your system.  Did this correct the problem?
If you still have problems, please post the following info:
    1)  What "Internet Connection Type" is the WRT54GL set to?
    2)  Is the DHCP server turned on in the 822+ modem?   (Note:  I assume that the DHCP server is turned on in the WRT54GL.)
