BEFW11S4 version 2

I can only connect IBM T42 using BEFW11S4 router if WEP encryption is disabled.  My other laptop, Dell, works on same router with WEP encryption.  I've checked key, changed key with no luck.  Anyone have any ideas?  Thx

I get a windows box that says "waiting for the network..." then a message that says "Windows is unable to connect to the selected network.  Network may no longer be in range.  Please refresh and try again."  Refreshing is not the answer.  The network is in range since I am able to connect from a Dell laptop sitting right next to the IBM
I can't see where I can change the security mode on the router to WPA-PSK.  I can find a manual for the v2 of this router, but did find manual for the model number and it only referenced WEP security.

    Hi,
Follow the steps to make your router work
    Launch an Internet browser.
    b) On the Address bar, type 192.168.1.1, then hit Enter.
    c) A login screen will appear.
    d) Type "admin" for the password and leave the username blank or empty then hit Enter.
Go to "Mac address Clone" a subtab of setup tab, click on clone your PC's Mac, then save the Settings.
After that remove the power from the router and the cable modem, and then after 10 sec replug the power 1st into the modem and then into the Linksys router.

  • LInksys Router BEFW11S4 version 2 and MacBook Pro Snow Leapord

I bought my Linksys Router Model # BEFW11SW version 2 in 2002. I bought my MacBook Pro Dec.'09. My airport works in public location with wireless networks, but not in my house. Is my router not compatible, or can I re-configure something to make it work? Thanks!

It's an old router. You may not have the latest firmware installed. The speed is 11b. At this point routers are cheap enough get a new one for your new MBP.

  • BEFW11s4 version four router configuration issues

Our wireless router quits sending out the wireless signal once a day. I called linksys and they had me get the new firmware, which solved the problem for about two weeks, but now the router is up to all the old tricks of not working. We have At&T (formerlly SBC) DSL internet. All the lights are lit up on the DSL box, and when I connect the router, the power, the wireless-b, the ethernet, and the internet lights all light up the way they should. Yet on the computers that hook up through the wireless connection it is limited or no connectivity. I keep trying to run the set up CD that came with the router, but every time it gets to the stage of configuring the router it stalls at 99% and then says it can not configure the router (despite that all the lights are on and working). I have tried numerous times to unplug it and holding the reset button and none of this is working.
I have also tried setting a static IP in network connections instead of having it find it automatically and this did not work either. I am really at a loss.
I searched the easy answers tips and can not find anything to help me. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

  • Lost password on BEFW11S4 version 1

    Hi All,
I was in http://192.168.1.1 and I went to the set password place, checked the button, and without setting the password, accidentally clicked "apply". So now I cannot login with the normal username admin passwd admin. Is there any way I can restore it to Factory Defaults or get the password?
    -Any help appreciated,
    Budgetperson

If you accidentally click on the save option...you can actually look for your reset button...hold it for 30 seconds...let go and then unplug the power outlet and replug it back...try using admin again by typing on the internet explorer 192.168.1.1 hit enter

  • Needs BEFW11S4 Version 4's Driver

I bought this router about 1 years ago. Presently, I dicovered that someone use my wireless and made my internet lag... I want to set up a password, but I couldn't find the CD Driver when I bought it. Does it way way to get a new CD or set up a password without driver?
    Thanks a lot!

    Here you go have fun.
Do a hard reset and reconfigure your router but this time change the routers password and set up WPA or WPA2 (if your devices support it) security so no one can access your router but you.

  • Can't access BEFW11S4 v2.1 config page / PASSWORD PROBLEM

    Hello.
I have a BEFW11S4 version 2.1 wireless router. Recently, I had to reset it to factory defaults.
However, since then, I can't access it from my web browser at 192.168.1.1 URL. It keeps asking me my password.
I've tried the "admin" password (with login left blank), both login & password set to "admin", and also with my previous password. Nothing works. I'm always having the red & white error page.
I can remember the firmware is 1.45 or something.
This is very annoying since I can't access the router's setup, and I'd like to add a few computers to my wireless network.
At the moment, Internet is working throught wired computers (at least!!!).
Anyone can help me ??? Thx!

hi... firstoff hard reset the router... connect computer directly to the modem and go to www.linksys.com/download and download the latest firmware for the router... go to ftp.linksys.com/pub/network and download tftp.exe file and save it on computer...run tftp application and try upgrading firmware using tftp application...after upgrading firmware on the router reset it and try logging on to setup page...let me know if you have any issues.

  • Adding Vista Ultimate Computer to BEFW11S4 network with Windows ME and XP??

Is it possible to add a Vista Ultimate computer to a wireless network using a BEFW11S4 Version 4 running firmware version 1.50.14?
My existing network consists of a Dell desktop on Win/ME which connects wired to the router and 2 laptops on Windows XP. I previously had problems with the newer firmware version, so I downgraded. Otherwise, everything works fine.
I just got a new HP computer with Vista Ultimate. The BEFW11S4 does not show as being supported for Vista. I am confused reading other posts, will I be able to connect the new computer or not?
If not, what Router can I get that will work with all 3 operating systems?
Also, what do I need to add a wireless connection to the Dell (on Win/ME) that will work with the old (or new) router?

any of the wireless- g routers would work with the OS you have ..

  • Upgrading from BEFW11S4 to WRT54G

    Hello...
I have a BEFW11S4 (Version 4) Router.  Because I have not received any answer here about my issues using that with the Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN Adapter, I am considering migrating to the WRT54G (at least, I am *pretty* sure that is the model that I have) since I was told by someone else who has a configuration similar to mine that THAT router worked properly with the Adapter.
My question: In migrating from the "old" router to the "new" router, are there any specific issues that I should worry about??
    Thank you!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Rather than the WRT54G, you might want to consider the WRT54GL which has twice the RAM (16 MB) and twice the Flash memory (4MB).  If you would ever need to go to third party firmware, such as dd-wrt, this is the router of choice.
The Link 5100 AGN should work well with either the WRT54G or the WRT54GL.  Make sure you have the latest driver for the 5100 AGN.
With changing routers, the main "upgrade issue" is that its time to upgrade your wireless to WPA2 encryption.  If you are running Windows XP, you will need SP3.  Vista already runs WPA2.
Here are my tips for setting up wireless security:
To set up wireless security, you must use a computer that is wired to the router.
Where to find the router settings: The router's login password is usually on one of the "Administration" pages. The other settings are all found in the "Wireless" or "Security" section of the router's setup pages, located at 192.168.1.1
First, give your router a unique SSID. Don't use "linksys".
Make sure "SSID Broadcast" is set to "enabled".
Next, leave the router at its default settings (except for the unique SSID), and then use your pc to connect wirelessly to the router. Test your wireless Internet connection and make sure it is working correctly. You must have a properly working wireless connection before setting up wireless security.
To implement wireless security, you need to do one step at a time, then verify that you can still connect your wireless computer to the router.
Next, encrypt your wireless system using the highest level of encryption that all of your wireless devices will support. Common encryption methods are:
WEP - poor (see note below)
WPA (sometimes called PSK, or WPA with TKIP) - good
WPA2 (sometimes called PSK2, or WPA with AES) - best
WPA and WPA2 sometimes come in versions of "personal" and "enterprise". Most home users should use "personal". Also, if you have a choice between AES and TKIP, and your wireless equipment is capable of both, choose AES. With any encryption method, you will need to supply a key (sometimes called a "password" ).
The wireless devices (computers, printers, etc.) that you have will need to be set up with the SSID, encryption method, and key that matches what you entered in the router.
Retest your system and verify that your wireless Internet connection is still working correctly.
And don't forget to give your router a new login password.
Picking Passwords (keys): You should never use a dictionary word as a password. If you use a dictionary word as a password, even WPA2 can be cracked in a few minutes. When you pick your login password and encryption key (or password or passphrase) you should use a random combination of capital letters, small letters, and numbers, but no spaces. A login password, should be 12 characters or more. WPA and WPA2 passwords should be at least 24 characters. Note: Your key, password, or passphrase must not have any spaces in it.
Most home users should have their routers set so that "remote management" of the router is disabled. If you must have this option enabled, then your login password must be increased to a minumum of 24 random characters.
One additional issue is that Windows XP requires a patch to run WPA2.  To get the patch, install SP3.  Vista already runs WPA2.
    Note:
WEP is no longer recommended. The FBI has demonstrated that WEP can be cracked in just a few minutes using software tools that are readily available over the Internet. Even a long random character password will not protect you with WEP. You should be using WPA or preferably WPA2 encryption.

  • BEFW11S4 V4 Remote Access + VPN

I cannot seem to find a guide or anything about the BEFW11S4 Version 4 Router and how to set up remote access to it and set up a vpn into its network and make the resources availible to me, does anyone know anything about this router? thanks in advance

Hi… This is not a VPN router so you would not be able to establish the VPN tunnel using this router. You can establish a windows VPN, depending upon your OS. Go through the setup guide for your OS. You may need to forward the ports used by your Windows VPN. Router would just work as a passthrough device and you can access the resources on the PC you connect to. If you want to access the entire network resources you may need to go for a VPN router i.e. RV or WRV series router.

  • BEFW11S4 and iPod Touch 2nd Gen

I have a BEFW11S4 version 2 router (i know, its ages old) and it works great with my wireless desktop in my house. However, it performs very slowly and weak with my new iPod touch. I've taken the iPod to other hotspots and it flies. But not in my house. Sometimes it takes forever for the IP address and DNS and router and all that stuff to appear on the iPod, and if it does, the internet is EXTREMELY slow and constantly drops. I have no security enabled on my home network either. I figure this is a problem with the configuration of my router. I know i cannot upgrade firmware any further because the latest version is from April 2004. Any ideas?

Well, I guess I am not alone.  1st gen Touch worked great with this linksys router.  Yesterday, I started using the 2nd gen Touch and experienced same problems.  Timeouts, severe lag etc.   Since the 1st gen worked flawlessly, is this an Apple issue?  I called Apple and they said they are receiving alot of phone calls in regard to 2nd Gen and no connectivity.    Or.....do I go out and replace this router....
    Any suggestions?

  • BEFW11S4 and outlook express

OK, so heres the deal.  I currently have a network using a Linksys Router BEFW11S4 version 4.  I can get internet.  My problem relies on getting email.
If I have my internet connect directly to my PC, it works fine.  If I try to access my email going through my router I get the following error message:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop-server', Server: 'pop-server', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
Note that I am using Microsoft Outlook Express 6.  What should I do to get me email working through my router?

You could try giving your computer DMZ access through the router.  That may help.

  • My BEFW11S4 has 2 passwords?

    I'm using a BEFW11S4 version 3 with a firmware version of 1.45.10, Apr 15 2004
Upon connecting to my router setup at http://192.168.1.1/index.htm, it prompts for the username and password, which are both by default, "admin". I got through, then I clicked on "Advanced" orange tab to access the "Forwarding" tab on the next page.
The problem is here. Upon making any changes, I'm prompted for the user and pw again, but this time, the pw isn't "admin". I don't recall changing any password for the router either. Same goes for any other changes I tried to make for my router. I'm brought to the 401 red error screen after 3 tries.
I appreciate any help offered here, thanks.

    No there isn't.

  • BEFW11S4 wireless connection lost after reboot / sleeping

I am using the linksys wireless router BEFW11S4 version 4, firmware version 1.5, to connnect two winXP computers, one a desktop (wired) and one a laptop (wireless).
The wireless connection was created using the EasyLink Advisor software (support.linksys.com).  The wireless connection made by this software to my laptop has no signal strength problems.  A wired connection to my laptop also has no problems.
However, if a wireless connection is made, it is broken when my laptop is restarted or sleeps (power saving mode).  The sysTray indicates a wireless connection that has "limited or no connectivity".  I cannot browse the internet.  The EasyLink advisor automatically detects a problem and prompts ot repair it.  Though after a few steps the EasyLink Advisor indicates that a "wireless connection failed to be made", the sysTray shows a healthy connection, and it becomes possible to browse at this point.
I'm hoping to make a connection that doesn't need to be re-established every time I leave my computer.  Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

Carrot, thanks very much for your message. I tried updating the "firmware" -- is that what you meant by drivers?
By following the instructions at http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4030&lid=7771778881B05,
I upgraded the firmware which involved performing a factory reset on the router, and re-establishing the network using the EasyLink Advisor.
All of the steps were carried out easily according to the instructions and there were no hitches or exceptions. The wireless connection made was strong and usable. At this time I added my second (desktop) computer which has a wired connection, by following the "add another computer" wizard in EasyLink Advisor.
This completed the re-setup of my network with new firmware.
I then restarted my wireless laptop, and, unfortunately, the connection was lost, as usual.
    any other suggestions?
    Thanks again!
