Begginer help... Parallels with Airport

Tried to search but could not find anything i could comprehend, I recently installed windows XP parralled to my macbook pro, and I cannot get a wireless connection when I go into Windows XP...
What do I do what can I do
Thank You

Hello DarkW1sh. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
When running a Virtual Machine (VM) Parallels uses the AirPort built into your MacBook Pro for wireless connectivity. This will appear as an Ethernet connection to the VM ... in this case Windows XP.
I suggest that you verify your VM Configuration Network adapter setting. I'm running Parallels v4.0 with my MacBook and have multiple VMs, including XP, Vista, Win7, & Ubuntu ... and all are able to use my MacBook's built-in AirPort.
My adapter settings are as follows. Please compare them with yours. Maybe you'll find a clue to what may be the problem:
Network Adapter 1
o Enabled (checked)
o Connected (checked)
o Shared Networking (selected)

  • Help Needed with Airport Express

    Hi All,
I have recently purchased a new Airport Express with AirTunes and installed the Airport Setup on my laptop as provided on the CD. I am using the Windows Wireless Zero Configuration service to connect to the wireless networks.
I am able to connect to my internet connection (MTNL Broadband service) using the AEX, but to my surprise Airport Setup Assistant finds the AEX in the scan but is not able to connect to it. However in the background I can see the network connection is established.
Also the Aiport Admin Utility is not able to even find the AEX in the scan. However if I type the IP address of the AEX on the 'Other' option then it makes a successful connection and show me the dialog box with the AEX properties.
Would appreciate if anybody could help.
    Thanks,
    Gaurav

Most/many cable modems require that they be reset whenever you switch the Ethernet connection from one device to another. This usually means that you need to power off the cable modem for a minute or two. When the cable modem powers up it will detect the new device and talk to it.
Some cable modems have a reset button. Some cable modems have a small internal battery which must be removed to do the reset.
Sometimes the cable modem must be turned off overnight to reset equipment back at the ISP.
Have you don this? I didn't see mention of it in your post.

  • Help needed with Airport network G5 Quad & MBP

    Hello,
I need some advice on Airport. I hope these aren't simple stupid questions...
I have a G5 Quad (Dec 2005) attached to a cable modem. I just ordered a 15" MBP 2.2. I am wondering if all I need to network them wirelessly is an Airport card for the G5 where the G5 will act as the base station? Do I need to purchase a base station? I want to be able to connect wireless with the MBP to access the internet, files on the G5 which also has two external hd's attached and a printer.
Then in regards to the base station, it seems as if the Express actually does more than the Extreme in that you are able to listen to iTunes wirelessly as well and it is more portable. Why would someone opt to spend more on the Extreme? Are there any performance differences?
Any help or advice is appreciated...

Yes, this is totally possible. To share files and your printers, simply go into System Preferences > Sharing > Check both "Personal File Sharing" and "Printer Sharing". Now when you go to print on your MBP, you'll see under the printer drop down box a section called "Shard Printers" – simply pick the one you want to print to and you're good to go.
As for accessing files, once Personal File Sharing is turned on, from your MBP, go to Network in a Finder window and you should see the name of your Quad in there. Double click on it, then enter the user name and password of the QUAD (not the MBP) and hit Connect. You'll then be presented with a list of drives which you can then choose from. You'll have to repeat the procedure for each drive you want to connect to, so I personally just save the username and pass to the Keychain so I don't have to re-enter it everytime.
As for sharing internet from your Quad, go back into the Sharing pane in System Preferences and under the "Internet" tab, you can choose to share your connection via Airport. So, for example, you can say "Share your connection from: Built-in Ethernet 1" then check "AirPort" under the "To computers using:" box.
    Hope this helps!

  • Please Help me with Airport Question.......

I am wondering what is the difference between Airport Extreme Base Station ($179) and Airport Express Base Station ($99)?
I currently have a Linksys Cable Modem and a Linksys Wireless Router (WRT54GS) and am having lots of issues with it, so I am thinking about getting an Airport Wireless router instead of Linksys.
My question is will the Airport Base Station work for Windows PC's wireless also in addition to my Macbook Pro and iPhone?
And difference between Airport Extreme and Express Base stations.
They both look like wireless routers but with a $80 difference.
I have never used an Airport router so I'm a newbie when it comes to those.
    Thanks in advance!!!!
    Patrick

Yes, either will work with both Macs and Windows machines.
The differences are shown here: http://www.apple.com/wifi/
The Extreme allows you to connect wired Ethernet as well, and you can connect an external HDD for network storage. The Express allows you to connect speakers and stream music from your computer.
Probably the biggest difference is that the Extreme is true dual-band, meaning 802.11n devices run at 802.11 speeds even if there are 802.11g devices on the network. With the Express, if there are g devices on the network, everything runs at g speed. Note that this really only matters for local file transfers - if you're just using the router to connect to the internet, g speed is plenty fast enough.

  • IPad and iPhone 4 and new 5s drop connection with airport express. This just started recently after working fine for a year. PC does not drop. Wifi signal fine. Help?

Streaming music with airport express and Apple TV to 2 different systems. No problem with Apple TV. iPad and iPhone 4 and new 5s keep dropping their connection to airport express. Airport express connection to wifi appears to be fine. No dropping by windows PC. This just started recently after working fine for a year. Help?

What does any of this have to do with the Apple TV?

  • Help me with Parallel Block in GP

    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/2d/71a9424092c511e10000000a1550b0/content.htm
I read the article and I have problem with paragraph 9.
It says "For parallel and parallel dynamic blocks, you can define more complex behavior and set criteria for block completion. On the Join Behavior tab page, you can choose one of the following options"
But I can't find the tab page Join Behavior
Is there any wrong version problem?  I'm running on 2004s.
Plz help me with this, thx all.

    Hi Niraj,
There are two cases to be considered here.
Consider your paraller blocks be P1,P2 and P3.
Case1: In this case all the 3 are approved and it will go for final approver. Here you can use three and blocks and then assign the result states of these to P4(Final approver)
Case2: If any of the result is 'Reject' in P1,P2 or P3 then the process need to be terminated directly.
Here you can use P1,P2 and P3 as before and assign the result states of these blocks to another block (Which may be a conditional block or can have decision type callable object) then P4 follows in sequence.
or else you can also write code in Web Dynpro to check status of P1,P2 and P3 and if any of the result is 'Reject' remove the tasks from other approvers list.
You can also check this for multiple approval and rejection.

  • Help! iMac would not Connect/Find with Airport Extreme

Strange issue. I used to connect my Airport extreme with iMac, until recently iMac could not join with aiport. Instead my iMac connected to my neighbor's network. I'm using Time Warner cable.
However, my MBP and my Dell laptop could connect to my airport. Any ideas what could interfere with my iMac? I already called the Tech support and even went to the Apple store, they all said is the iMac since the iMac was able to connect with all the airports at the store. The tech support suggested me to move my airport to a room with less interference. Is that right? the iMac or the airport should I move?
We spent 2 hours, resetting back to factory setting and still iMac could not join Airport Extreme.
Any suggestions or advices are appreciated.

Thank you for your e-mail, Duane. Yes, the airport express (hooked up to my stereo in the dining room) does receive iTunes from my G5 in the office. The light is a blinking yellow, but it still receives the signal.
Last night, I was able to get an internet signal on my eMac (with airport extreme card installed) from the VersaLink router that my G5 uses in the office!
I figured out that the eMac and G5 were obviously not communicating with each other, and went to the Airport icon on the top of both screens to make sure that the Location Names were correct. I discovered that I needed to change the G5 from the Airport Express Location (stereo)to the name of the eMac location (Master Bedroom). Then I got the network connection. I suppose to play iTunes to my stereo, I will have to change the location, again, right?
Another comment: I was rather amazed that, after at least an hour and a half phone conversation with three different technicians, no one came close to this solution. And I'm paying for technical help (two years left on a three year contract)! Evidently, it is not common knowledge that a wireless router and an airport extreme card with mini-antenna can communicate? I came close to buying an Airport Extreme Base Station because I thought that I might need it!!!
So, I'm thinking I'm in the right ballpark but would welcome any more comments.
    Thanks for listening.

  • Running parallels with windows xp. want to upgrade my Quickbooks to 2013, but it will not recognize the disc.  Help!

running parallels with windows xp and OS X Lion.  Trying to upgrade my Quickbooks on the windows side to the new 2013 version.  The windows side does not even recognize the disc.  What am I doing wrong?

S that QB edition is only for windows 8. It won't run on any earlier version of windows.
Looking at the QB 2013 system requirement it runs on XP.
    http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/articles/INF21187
So the version of windows is not your problem. Your problem is the virtual machine is not se to use the mac dvd drive. Have you looking into the machine settings. Not windows settings, the virtual machine settings. Make sure it is set to connect the mac dvd drive to the virtual machine.
A good place to start would be the parallels help system. Not the windows help system.

  • VMware Fusion vs. Parallels (with Boot Camp) -- help please!

Hello. I have just reinstalled Mac OS X (Leopard) on my MacBook and am looking to install Windows XP SP2. I will be installing a Boot Camp partition -- I know that much -- but I also want to use Parallels or Fusions so that I have the option of running the Boot Camp partition within OS X. Somehow, over my years as a Mac user, I have acquired both of these applications (Fusion and Parallels), and I was wondering if anyone has any information on the differences between the two. Two questions:
1.) As I just mentioned, I'm just looking for any information on the differences between the two apps -- what features one offers that the the other doesn't -- why I might want to choose one over the other -- and so forth.
2.) Since I have both apps, would it be possible to have both installed at the same time? In other words, could I have both Fusion and Parallels installed on my computer, and then, when it comes time to open Windows, choose which app I want to open and use? (not sure there'd be any point to this, but just in theory, could it be done?)
Thanks in advance -- any info in regard to either question is much appreciated.

Thanks for the replies. Although I've never used Fusion before, I've installed Parallels with Boot Camp partition three or four times before on this computer, and it has always worked great for me, so I know I want to use Boot Camp. And as far as the application goes, sounds like I'll be using Parallels, mainly because it's what I'm used to. That Wikipedia link was exactly what I was looking for -- I had checked Wikipedia before I posted the topic here, but I didn't find that comparison page. Anyways, they look about the same (Parallels and Fusion, that is) for anything I'd be concerned with, but where there were any differences, they seemed to work in favor of Parallels (except for Linux-related features, in which Fusion seemed to have the upper hand, but I don't use Linux). So, again, thanks for taking the time to respond -- much appreciated. Have a good one.

  • Users Accounts with Airport....... Help Please!!!

I just recently purchased an older g5 dual 1.8. Instead of doing a erase and install I opted for the manual add and delete of the old user. I was able to get rid of all of his old information, folders etc.... Except for Airport Extreme. When I set up to share my Internet Connection it shows his old name on the available local network. I changed this under my user Id and when I am logged in under my profile the airport shows up with the name I changed it to.
The problem...... When my wife logs in from her laptop it still comes up with the old owners name. How do I correct this??? I believe the problem is only with Airport the Computer name was changed.

It sounds like you are using Internet Sharing on the G5 to create a wireless/AirPort network. To change the name of the network created you probably only need to change the name of the Mac in the Sharing preference pane.

  • Looking for help on connecting Airport Express to Belkin F5D7230-4

I have been reading post after post with a similar problem with help. From other post, it sounds like this Belkin router will work with Airport Express(AE), but I have not found help on how to make it work.
    Here is the problem.
I need to extend my internet signal from my office to my living room. The Belkin router is connected to my cable modem in my office. The Express is in my kitchen (between the two rooms). I set it up for expanding the signal and the light on the AE continues to flash yellow. I have called Apple and they were able to help me set it up, but it only works for AirTunes (and I am guessing anything plugged into the USB port), but NOT for internet.
Here are some of the things I have tried.
~~ I have connected the AE to the cable modem to check that is does work, and it does.
~~ I have moved the device closer to the router and still not working.
~~ I have made sure the Belkin settings are set for WDS, which it always was. I have reset the router and the AE.
What am I missing? Do I need an updated firmware? I have read on another post about a D-Link that needed DHCP and NAT disabled, but I don't understand how to do that and on which device? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the article. I have read that before.
The WDS was already enabled on my router so that did not help. There is something else missing somewhere on these steps that I am not understanding.
I assume that the AP direction is meant if I plan to use the Belkin router as an AP not the main router? Where in this case the AP is actually my Express, and my express does not have a similar interface to change things to the settings mentioned.

  • Setting up a multi-zone stereo system in my home with Airport Express

I'm trying to set up an in-home stereo system using iTunes as my main hub.  I want to play iTunes as well as Pandora and possibly Sirius.  Can I set this up with Airport Express?  Would I control everything through iTunes on my MacBook or an iPad?  How is this all wired if I have some existing external speakers with a receiver in my family room, built-in ceiling speakers in the kitchen, and outdoor external speakers?  I am comparing this to a Sonos system, but the Sonos is not really in my budget.
Also, what is the difference between Airport Express and Airport Extreme?  What would I need for this situation?  Thanks in advance for your help.

    >I want to play iTunes as well as Pandora and possibly Sirius. Can I set this up with AirPort Express?
From iTunes you can stream a single audio source to one or multiple 802.11n AirPort Express Base Stations (AXn), but you cannot stream multiple audio sources to separate AXns. You would need a third-party product, like Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil to stream audio sources other than from iTunes.
    >Would I control everything through iTunes on my MacBook or an iPad?
    You could do either.
    >How is this all wired if I have some existing external speakers with a receiver in my family room, built-in ceiling speakers in the kitchen, and outdoor external speakers?
Of the speakers you mentioned, only the ones connected to the receiver would work directly connected to an AXn. The audio output port on the AXn is a combo 3.5 mm stereo analog/optical digital port. Assuming your receiver accepts either analog or digital audio input, you can feed the output of iTunes or Airfoil from the AXn to the receiver. In turn, the receiver (if configured for whole home stereo) can feed the kitchen and outdoor speakers.
    >Also, what is the difference between AirPort Express and AirPort Extreme?
What's similar: Both are Internet routers that provide wireless. Both provide the ability to share an attached USB printer. What's different: The Extreme has a built-in Ethernet switch. The Extreme supports sharing HDDs and printers together or separately via a USB hub. The Express has a built-in audio circuitry, the Extreme does not.
    >What would I need for this situation?
Only the Express can accomplish providing an audio stream.

  • How to configure home network with Airport Extreme + D-Link DIR-665

    *hello everyone,*
*I had these two working fine together until the D-Link took a dump the other day. No explanation. Just stopped working until I reconfigured everything.*
*Which then led to my Airport Extreme being unable to connect to the network at all, much less the internet...*
*My home network is set up like this:*
    *Optimum Cable*
*Motorola Surfboard modem --> D-Link DIR-655 (via ethernet)*
*- Provides wifi and ethernet connections on one side of my house*
*DIR-655 --> Airport Extreme (via ethernet run to other side of house)*
*- Provides wifi and ethernet connections on the other side of my house*
*My MBP won't connect to anything other than my AE running N, so I have that set up primarily for my MBP over wifi, while feeding an ethernet connection to a Netgear router running B/G, for my iPhone and other devices.*
**So here are the relative details:**
*I decided to start fresh and do a factory default configuration with my Airport Extreme. My working system from earlier was essentially it's own wifi network, but the airport utility 'insists' that I need to run my AE in bridge mode. I've tried that, but I can't get online. I can see my shared connections, so something's getting through, but I cannot connect to them, in addition to being unable to get online.*
*I'm not really sure how to best illustrate this problem, so I've ran through the process again and jotted down a few notes. Excuse the rambling nature of my narrative, this is a 'blow by blow' account of the Airport Utility setup process:*
    Airport version 7.4.2
    IP address 192.168.0.192
    router address: 192.168.0.2
    Configuring over Airport connection.
    - I want AE to join my current network
-.. connect AE to my network using ethernet to extend or create second network
    - select device AE will connect to using ethernet - DIR-655 network (displayed w/ airport icon?)
    - create an additional network (through ethernet)
    AE updates..
    - problem 1 of 1 : unsecured wireless network
    wpa wpa2
Bridge mode or share a single IP address using DHCP
    selected bridge mode
results: AE has green light, airport utility is satisfied but no connection to network is possible. Shared connections are visible, but unable to access
    next try:
    manual setup
    Wireless mode: create wireless network
radio mode: 802.11n only (5 GHz)
    channel: auto
    wireless security: WPA2 personal
    (bridge mode still active)
(this is the exact setup that worked for years before..)
    updated…
AE light is green, but no connection to internet or shared connections (though visible)
    back to airport utility
    manual setup:
    internet menu:
connection sharing: share a public IP address
    update
    --> 2 problems
    DHCP Beginning address: 192.168.0.2
    DHCP Ending Address: 192.168.0.2
    chose 'assist me'
(now one shared connection to Mac Mini becomes active? Had selected it earlier. Able to browse folders, but not share screen)
AE refreshed now with amber light, with reported problems
Problem 1 of 2: Internet Connection
Your Apple Wireless device does not have a valid IP address. Make sure your Apple wireless device is connected to your broadband modem or local network… etc
    - changed IP address to match router IP address (?) Utility goes on to next problem
Problem 2 of 2: Conflicting DHCP Range
This Apple wireless device rejected a DHCP address in the same subnet as its internal DHCP server. You should probably switch your Apple wireless device to be in bridge mode. If you still want to be using DHCP and NAT to share a single IP address, you should change your DHCP range.
    - maintain selection: share a single IP address using DHCP and NAT (utility forces you to: ignore; skip; or select bridge mode - which doesn't work..)
    - chose 'skip' for problem 2
    - updated AE..
    New problem:
Problem 1 of 1: Double NAT
This Apple wireless device has a private IP address on its Ethernet WAN port. It is connected to a device or network that is using Network Address Translation (NAT) to provide private IP addresses. you should change you Apple wireless device from using DHCP and NAT to bridge mode.
    - selected Bridge Mode
    updated AE…
    "Setup Complete!"
    Unable to connect.
** At this point, I am still able to see my shared connections, and while iTunes is open, I can play my shared library that is on my Mac Pro, which connected to the DIR-665 via ethernet, through yet another D-Link router (DIR-615)! I am still connected to the Airport Extreme via wireless, so the system is working, to an extent.*
*So I'm not sure what to do. How can I remedy my IP address issue? Bridge mode doesn't work (as far as I've experienced), so I'm struggling with my DHCP settings..*
*Thanks to anyone who has any suggestions!*

    Hi Preston,
I would recommend not starting the numbering scheme for the IP addresses using a '0'. Yes the range is 0-255, but some numbers are reserved, and not generally good practice.
Also, assuming you have reset all factory defaults, start anew and have the modem --> router using NAT for dynamic IP addresses --> (other side of the house) Airport Extreme --> not a NAT configuration, but you need a simple switch. Do not use the NAT capabilities on this one. Maybe, just maybe the computer will work now. This will eliminate your double NAT and also help (hopefully) with the D-Link.
Sorry I cannot help more, I do not own any of the products you talk about, however I have networking experience. Hope it helps.

  • Trying to set up wireless network on PC with Airport Express

I'm helping a friend set up his network with AirPort Express. He's got a modem attached to his PC, and currently has a router that sends a wireless signal to a receiver on the PC in the other room. Now he's added a Mac, and the old router/receiver doesn't work with Mac. So he bought an Airport Express.
I've turned on the Airport, and first I connected the ethernet cable from the modem to the AirPort. Per the AirPort utility I put on the PC, it couldn't find it (got the flashing amber light). So then I took out that ethernet, and I hooked up the ethernet directly from the CPU to the AirPort. Suddenly, it was found, and it took me step by step through the set up. It asked for password info from our internet provider (??why would I have that info??), so we just hit "enter". Then it couldn't set up the network, and said to check the "manage network settings". I've tried everything. Not only can I NOT manage to create a network, but now NEITHER ethernet cable will cause any recognition in the AirPort. All I get is the blinking amber light. I'm about to throw all the computers out the window...it really should not be this difficult. I've set up networks in my own home, before, with both PC and Mac, and never had these problems. So, now, I've had to relink up the old router/receiver in order to send out this call for help. Can anyone suggest anything else to try before I use these computers for target practice?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jennifer
P.S. The main PC w/modem is on Vista with service pack 2.0...since I can't even get that one working with AirPort, I hardly think it matters what the other computers are...

I had some initial problems too. Make sure that you have the latest Airport Utility in the utilities folder. I used that to correct the problems I had when I first got Time Machine. I recommend resetting everything through there to get it working right.
Mine is not set up to run an n network because my macs are all g and b compatible. Does the airport utility see the time machine? And if so, does it have a green light in the utility?

  • Print with Airport Express

I've just buyed a new printer (HP Laserjet Pro 300 Color m351a) and installed new HP drivers in my Macbook Pro (with OSX 10.9 Mavericks) and when I connect the USB cable to the Airport Express (first model) to use it wireless I'm not able to see her in printer menu.
When I connect the printer directly to the Mac works fine
    Can anybody help me?

Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations. In addition, the  AirPort's USB port does not support the "advanced" printer functions, like scanning, copying or faxing, of multi-function printers.
To see if your printer is compatible, take a look at this iFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility link. If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.
Also you can try this Apple Tech Support article to see if it will help: Printer troubleshooting for AirPort Base Stations and Time Capsule
Finally, check out this IBM support article to see if your printer is listed as having a Postscript or PCL3 interface. If it does, then it will most likely work with the AirPort's USB port. Printers that use the "HP LIDIL" interface must be connected to a computer directly and will not work.
