Beginner in SAP Portal

Hi all :
I am a beginner in SAP Portal, truely speaking in the whole SAP domain. I just graduated last year and worked for 1 year in core Java and VB development. In my new job, I have to deal with all ERP/SAP stuffs.
My first responsibility is to learn SAP Enterprise Portal for the time being. Though I know it's a part of the SAP NetWeaver product suite, my understanding is to learn the Portal I really dont need to learn the core SAP R/3 right now ( but definitely yes in the long run ) as it says Portal can also be implemented to handle/manipulate non-SAP data. I am mainly interested to learn development using SAP Portal ( eg. a dynamic website with a backend MSSQL server
So my question is what's the good starting point for a beginner like me? I did have a look at the help.sap.com website but got bit confused. It starts directly with the assumption that I have got the necessary softwares/servers/studios installed. So just wondering what's the best starting point for me to start from the scratch in order to learn Portal? Also are there books for beginners to learn development in Portal?

Receiving IDocs from non-SAP system ...

Hello guys,
I have problem with implementing IDoc-XI-IDoc scenario. The sender system is a subsystem (non-SAP system) sending IDocs but XI is not able to receive them. I thing the IDoc metadata can not be found.
Logical system name of the sender is IF6020DEV. I registered the system in SLD. In Integration Directory I imported the Bussines System IF6020DEV to my scenario and I created communication channel of type Sender IDoc Adapter in it.
In IDX2 I created new port called IF6020DEV and I copied needed metadata into the port. But it doesn't work. Probably I don't do it right because I'm beginner with SAP XI.
Could you give me any advice how to configure XI for receiving IDocs from non-SAP system?

Thank you very much. The issue described in refered discussion is almost same issue what I'm solving. Unfortunetally the described solution dosn't work for me.
The sender system still returns following error. I know you probably won't understand it because you don't know the subsystem, but maybe you could get some idea what is wrong.

Native Reports of SAP B1

Hello Experts,
I am a beginner in SAP Business One.
Could you, please, tell me how can I see the sql statements of some native reports of SAP B1 like "Inventory Reports"?, sometimes I must have the source tables of some reports for having a better orientation to create custom reports.

Hi, I am new to B1 too, but since you are newer than me ...
There are no way of getting raw SQL of a given report per se. However, you might have a chance to figure this piece of information out by running an SQL trace while running the report.
You may achieve this through your Studio Management Console, and by Googling on the topic a bit.
From within B1 GUI, you might want to display system information (..\View\SystemInformation\.) and then move your mouse over some fields shown on your report (displayed on the screen of course). Then have a peep at the lower left hand side of the screen, the system will tell you both Table and Column name.
Same is true while moving your mouse over any data entry screen found in B1. If for a given field you don't get a Table/Field name, then that is because it may be a calculated field, sometimes refereed too as a "Variable".

Yes, SAP have products or platforms where you can use ABAP, in case of Netweaver, Java, in case of PO or HCP; JavaScript on Hana XS, HTML5 and JavaScript in SAPUI5, for UI development; SQL and SQL Script on Hana, and for some case, like PO or PI, we use XSLT as well.
Resuming, if you are interesting in learn and work with SAP Hana, you need to know JavaScript, SQL and SQLScript, and is good to have a good knowledge about HTML5 and learn the SAPUI5 framework.

Want to learn SAP PI 7.4 Single stack

I am a beginner in SAP PI and started by journey with SAP PI 7.0. Now, we are upgrading it to SAP PI 7.4 single stack.
I want to learn it as much as possible before the migration but when I search for the topics in SCN, I am getting confused with the different topics and its naming conventions explained. (For Eg PI and PO). So, will it possible for you experts to provide me the links which can actually help me to get the full depth knowledge on PI 7.4 (Single stack). SAP Process Orchestration is the new name of SAP Process Integration (SAP PI). SAP changed the name with the release 7.3 to include the additional features of SAP NetWeaver Business Process Management (nBPM), Advanced Adapter Engine Extended (AEX) and SAP NetWeaver Business Rules Management (BRM).
Source - Latest version is SAP PO 7.4 or SAP PI 7.4 (commonly known as of now). Good part is that PO 7.4 license includes BPM and BRM. Till PO 7.4 SAP still provides the dual stack (ABAP + JAVA) option to install. But going forward it would be single stack (JAVA) only i.e. only swing tool for ESR and ID or NWDS. no more transactions/tocde.
From a developer standpoint:
You got all adapter based on JAVA. IDOC and HTTP are now IDOC_AAE and HTTP_AAE, also proxy scenario can be done using SOAP adapter XI protocol and there is no ccBPM.

In the Requirements for the training SAP wrote we have to install SAP EHP1 for NetWeaver CE 7.1 SP4 and Oracle 10.2 or SQL-Server 2005.

I'm inbetween projects and I would like to volunteer my time to produce some SAP multimedia tutorials - in the form of Camtasia screencasts - which seem to be missing from this site (if there are any, please point me to the navigation path, I would like to check them out).
The topics I would be covering are:
