Beginner is baffled

I have a VERY limited amount of time to throw something together (I can refine it later, I just need a very rough cut now) and I've spent five hours today and several more hours in previous days googling and otherwise searching the internet for help on this subject, and I am no closer to a solution. I have spent two days reading through the manual and still haven't found where it explains this stuff.
I've used other editing software in the past but I have never used any FC before.
I have five camera angles from a concert. They all have audio and video, and they are all imported into a timeline in FCE, but now I am completely stuck. I need to sync them all then cut between the angles for a three song sample by TOMORROW NIGHT.
I know this is kind of an annoying question but I've spent hours and hours looking and found NOTHING that helps, so I don't know what else to do.
Could someone please give me or direct me to precise, step-by-step instructions to sync these five tracks together and start choosing angles? I've made markers on all the tracks at the same point and lined them up, but I know they aren't perfectly synced. I can't seem to get more than one audio track with visible waves to show up anywhere so I can compare them and line them up exactly. I am getting really frustrated (as you can probably tell... sorry) because I know what I want to do, I just don't know how to do it in FCE, and I don't have time to hunt through a thousand page manual with a crappy search function or hours and hours of YouTube tutorials looking for the one stupid piece of information I need. The only instructions I can find assume that I already know my way around the software, and I don't. They say "sync the audio tracks and blah blah blah..." well how do you do that?! And how do I then cut between the video clips while keeping audio from only one stereo clip?
PLEASE help me, somebody!
Thanks for reading.

I seriously have no idea what I am doing in FCE.
I have used other software on MUCH slower computers, and I was still able to see the cuts I had made instantly - I didn't have to render anything unless there was an effect or I was exporting it. But the way I'm doing this right now, every time I change the opacity with the pen tool to make a cut from one camera to another, I have to render something for two minutes to play back what I just did in the canvas. How can that be right? I must be doing something wrong. The instructions on that page, while helpful, are still assuming that I know my way around FCE to begin with, and I DON'T. They say "change the opacity from 100% to 0%" but, as ridiculously simple as it is when you know how, it took me HALF AN HOUR to figure out how.
Can someone please explain to me as if I am a complete moron how to make an edit that I can review without rendering it every time I change ANYTHING?

  • Help for a baffled beginner

    Ive just installed Oracle Express to help me go through a phase test. Ive created 3 tables under the SYSTEM username that I started the database with. Ive populated the tables with some data
    Now whenever I try and enter any SELECT command it tells me
    ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
    Now a quick look on google tells me this is most likley that I don't have permission...however, I can't see what I can do to change that, I am the only user. If I create a new admin and recreate the tables it tells me the same.
    Also, infuriatingly, it tells me that the 'show tables' is not a valid SQL command so I cannot make sure I am typing it correctly. Although obviously I have gone back into the object browser to check countless times.
    Please help me out! Im assuming its something small, but google is huge and I don't even know where to begin with this.
    Thanks
    Mike

    Im not using the command prompt, oracle express 10g's menu to create everything.
    However the sql for the existing tables is
    CREATE TABLE " Employee"
    (     "id" NUMBER NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "name" CHAR(100) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         CONSTRAINT " Employee_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("id") ENABLE
    CREATE TABLE "Car"
    (     "regNo" VARCHAR2(10) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "distanceInKm" NUMBER NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "kmPerLiter" NUMBER NOT NULL ENABLE,
         CONSTRAINT "Car_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("regNo") ENABLE
    These are for the 2 tables I have managed to create under Mike.
    There is a 3rd with 2 foreign keys referencing the above tables and for some reaso, even tho it was possible before under SYSTEM, yet do not exist under Mike, I cannot recreate it
    When I log back in under system, the above two tables are still there (as I created them earlier) and also the one I mention above that I did successfully create under system
    CREATE TABLE "TravelCost"
    (     "journeyId" CHAR(10) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "carRegNo" CHAR(10) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "employeeId" CHAR(10) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "occurred" DATE NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "distanceInKm" NUMBER NOT NULL ENABLE,
         CONSTRAINT "TravelCost_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("journeyId") ENABLE,
         CONSTRAINT "TRAVELCOST_FK" FOREIGN KEY ("carRegNo")
         REFERENCES "CAR" ("REGNO") ENABLE,
         CONSTRAINT "TRAVELCOST_FK2" FOREIGN KEY ("employeeId")
         REFERENCES "EMPLOYEE" ("ID") ENABLE
    But I constantly get the 'table doesnt exist'.
    Apologies for my wirting, Im in rush and I have a new wireless keyboard thats abysmal

  • Baffled by My Low Res Output on FCP7

    I'll admit to not being an expert but I'm not a beginner either. This one has me stumped. Producing two minutes videos on DVD with FCP7. Output DV NTSC 720X480 anamorphic. Up until yesterday DVDs looked fine on a 720 widescreen. Then... suddenly... DVED playback resolution is low and credits screen fonts at the end (LiveType Movie) were abysmally low res and fuzzy. Everything seems the same as my previous projects... which all look great! Have tried different codecs, QT , Compressor etc. Does any of this ring a bell with anyone. It's probably something really stupid... but eludes me. Thanks in advance for any ideas you might have.

    Hi Tony,
    I've tried several things. I set my in and out points and exported via Quicktime Movie. I've exported via Quicktime Movie Conversion with several different settings. I've placed my QT export directly into Compressor and tried several methods there... including adjusting frame motion. I'm just totally baffled by the awful low res output. I've done this soooo many times in the past and now, all of a sudden, the output is atrocious.

  • Raw Beginner need help with Adobe Photoshop CS2

    I am reading Photoshop CS2 for digital photographers by Scott Kelby. I am looking at pg 55 if any one has this book and would like to visually see what I am about to describe. I own Adobe Photoshop CS2 software. After bringing up Adobe bride RAW on my PC, I then see all the settings, Exposure, Shadows, Brightness, Contrast, and Saturation.. Located directly above all of these settings is Auto and Default which you can click on and adjust all settings at the same time. If you don't like what you see you click on Default to go back to the original, you can then make your adjustments individually. In my CS2 book there is an Auto box you can check or un-check beside each setting, Exposure, Shadows, Brightness, and Contrast. My question is how do I get the Auto box beside each setting so I can simply put a check in that box and preview changes individually instead of the Auto and Default on top which changes every setting at the same time? I hope this make since to you, if not I will try to explain again.

    Thank you Ramon for your help. I will just be happy with what I have, which works fine but I thought it might be better for me to have the individual Auto check box for each setting. Thank you for the tip to double-click the sliders to reset it to default, it works in CS2 also:) Actually this gives me more control and works out great now that I think about it. I am sure there are more handy little tips I should know about but don't because I am a beginner in learning RAW. Hopefully I'll stumble across a book or some thing over the internet that will help me with my learning curve.

  • How to make a really basic pong game for a beginner

    Hello.  I've read through a couple of threads on here dealing with making a game of pong in LabView, but in them the users had questions with far more complex aspects of the program than I want to deal with.  I am a beginner programmer in LabView with limited experience in Java and Visual Basic programming.  I was tasked with creating a game over winter break, and now that I finally have some time (this weekend that is), I decided that I'd make a really simple game of pong.  However, I have seriously overestimated the difficulty of this for a beginner who has very limited knowledge of Lab View.
    I ask you to please have some patience with me.
    I know what I want to do, and just need help inplementing it.
    Here is the idea for my design to keep it as simple as possible:
    -Create a field (I am not sure what to use for this, but from my reading it appears that some sort of a picture output is needed, but I cannot find that anywhere).
    -Set up some simple function that can output the dimensions of this field to use with collision tracking.
    -Create a ball that can be tracked by the program.
    -From my reading I understand that the simplest way to "bounce" the ball off the sides appears to simply reverse the X velocity of the ball when it strikes the vertical boundaries and the Y velocity when it strikes the horizontal boundaries.
    -Insert some sort of a "paddle" that the user can control with the left and right arrow keys.
    Now, as I have mentioned I am a beginner with approximately one month maximum knowledge of this software, spread over about a year.  I want to take things slow.  So for starters, would anyone be willing to walk me through creating a visual output for this and creating a ball that will bounce off all sides?
    If I can at least get that far for now, then I can move on (with help I hope!) of inserting an interactive interface for the "paddle."
    I have found some LabView code for a simple game like this, but it also includes a score keeping loop as well as an "automatic play" option, and I am attempting to wade through all that code to find the bones of it to help me with this, but due to my inexperience, this might thake a lot of time.
    I thank you for any and all help anyone may be able to provide.

     Wel, there is the picture indicator in the picture palette. In newer versions it's called "2D picture". The palettes have a search function. Using the palette search function is a basic LabVIEW skill that you should know. If you've seen the example for the other discussion, it uses a 2D boolean array indicator. The boolean array is only recommended for a monochrome very low resolution display.
    EchoWolf wrote: -Set up some simple function that can output the dimensions of this field to use with collision tracking.

    That seems backwards. Properly programmed, the code always knows the dimension and the ball position. The program generates, (not tracks!) the ball movement. Of course you need to do some range checking on the ball position to see when it collides with the walls.

    Of course you could make it more realistic by keeping track of three ball parameters: x, y, spin.
    EchoWolf wrote:

    Pong is typically played with the up-down arrow keys.

    LabVIEW knowledge is not measured in time units. What did you do during that month? Did you attend some lectures, study tutorials, wrote some programs?

    Start with the posted example and delete all the controls and indicators that you don't want, then surgically remove all code with broken wires.
    Alternatively, start from scratch: Create your playing field. Easiest would be a 2D classic boolean array that is all false. Use initialize array to make it once. Now use a loop to show the ball as a function of time.
    Start with a random ball position. to display it, turn one of the array elements true before wiring to the array indicator using replace array subset.
    Keep a shift register with xy positions and xy velocities and update the positions as a function of the velocities with each iteration of the loop. Do range checking and reverse the velocieis when a edge is encountered.
    What LabVIEW version do you have?
    LabVIEW Champion . Do more with less code and in less time .

  • Please help beginner! Few pong questions.

    So, I have just started creating my own pong game after
    learning the basics of Flash 8. Everything went perfectly until
    now, I got a bit stuck.
    I got to point where I have fully working menu, multiplayer
    and singleplayer, you can play against another person using mouse
    and arrows. The scoring system works too and I actually managed to
    get the computer to follow the ball but here comes the first
    problem. I found a whole actionscript for the ball on the internet
    here it is:
    onClipEvent(load){
    s = {l:10,r:490,t:20,b:405,w:10,h:10};
    function setSpeed(){
    xspeed = Math.round(Math.random()*5)+1;
    yspeed = Math.round(Math.random()*5)+1;
    xspeed *= Math.round(Math.random()*2)==1 ? -1 : 1;
    yspeed *= Math.round(Math.random()*2)==1 ? -1 : 1;
    setSpeed();
    _root.cscore = _root.pscore = 0;
    onClipEvent(enterFrame){
    _x += xspeed;
    _y += yspeed;
    if(_x+(s.w/2)+xspeed>s.r){
    _x = s.r/2;
    _y = s.b/2;
    setSpeed();
    _root.cscore += 1;
    if(_x-(s.w/2)+xspeed<s.l){
    _x = s.r/2;
    _y = s.b/2;
    setSpeed();
    _root.pscore += 1;
    if(_y+(s.h/2)+yspeed>s.b){
    _y = s.b-(s.h/2);
    yspeed *= -1;
    if(_y-(s.h/2)+yspeed<s.t){
    _y = s.t+(s.h/2);
    yspeed *= -1;
    if(this.hitTest(_root.player)){
    _x = _root.player._x - _root.player._width/2;
    xspeed *= -1;
    xspeed *= 1.08;
    yspeed *= 1.08;
    if(this.hitTest(_root.computer)){
    _x = _root.computer._x + _root.computer._width/2;
    xspeed *= -1;
    xspeed *= 1.08;
    yspeed *= 1.08;
    As I said I am a beginner and I dont really understand the
    code. The problem is that after every hit the ball gets faster and
    faster and faster until it is impossible to see it.
    Here comes another problem: I have got the enemy just
    following the ball so it is impossible to score the script for
    enemy is:
    onClipEvent(enterFrame){
    ydist = _root.ball._y - _y;
    _y = _root.ball._y;
    Now my question is can someone plese tell me what do I have
    to change in the ball code so it stays at the constant speed or it
    just increases a little bit. The second qustion is how can I make
    the enemy computer not perfect? So you can actually win the game?
    Something like hit it randomly.
    My last question is: The game should be quiz pong. So if you
    score a point a qustion will pop up and you will have to answer it.
    What is the best way to do that? I think it should mean somethin
    like this: If score=+1 gotoandplay(lets say the question will be at
    frame 20) I dont know if that is the way it should be formed in the
    action script it is just my guess.
    Please if someone can help me at least with one of those
    questions I would be incredibly oblidged. thanks

    hey, im not great at this easier, but i think the speed
    problem can be solved by getting rid of the 2 lines
    xspeed *= 1.08;
    yspeed *= 1.08;
    I think this increases the speed by 8% after every hit. You
    can also try lowering the number, but if you go elow 1 it will slow
    down.

  • Beginner trying to import data from GL_interface to GL

  • Links Pallet Missing. Adobe Help Line baffled.

    A day killed on the Adobe Help Line and no hope in sight. The Links Pallet is AWOL and Adobe tech support can't find it.
    Originally the problem was an error when trying to export a 275 page book to idml format as something was going wrong with the minor panic of losing months worth of work. It kept crashing InDesign CS5 on Win-7 64 Pro.
    In three very long calls over the period of the day, creating new ID's, wiping out all sorts of stuff, including a reinstall of just ID, the Adobe help line finally had us permanently deregister the Suite, remove the whole suite, clean everything with a piece of code they recommended, and reinstall.  It was a clean install. Adobe Creative Suite 5 Master Collection on two DVDs, selected to install every option that had a check box - take a lunch break while it does its thing. Then updated to the latest code for InDesign (7.0.4) and Photoshop (all three check boxes) since those are the only two we generally use.  We went through all the drills such as trashing to preferences, and so on. All the ID extensions are checked as well. When all was said and done, the file still crashed the system, suggesting the problem was a corrupt file. Time to go to plan B...
    We managed to find an older version idml copy that could be updated using draft printouts, and patched our way back to sanity only to discover that none of the images were linked, and when we went to fix this using the link pallet, it was not there. No link panel, not on the /window drop down, not anywhere. We finally relinked the images by using the Package "Repair All". However, one image was RGB, and when we right clicked to edit in orginal (Photoshop), there was no such option anymore. The tech support guy at Adobe was baffled (politely).
    Somehow an awful lot of features related to images have vanished in this futile attempt to fix another problem. We are now worse off than we were this morning.
    We figure there is some sort of switch somewhere, that Adobe tech should know, but their help line seems to be staffed by people whose solution is to delete everything and start over. When that failed to work, they said they will call back, but by the time we rang them back they were closed.
    Has anyone either had this happen, or know what might be causing it? Links is an important feature, and without it, we might as well go back to CS-4...
    Hmmm, good thought, let's try it.  Just tried it before hitting Post Message, saving the file as IDML, but before it would open, the old ID-CS4 crashed with an error "Failed to open plugin resources: PARAGRAPH COMPOSER.RPLN" argh! (Don't let this one distract the question... all we want to know is how to find the Links Pallet on ID-CS5 v 7.0.4)

    We are writing this saga in hopes someone in management at Adobe may actually read it and make some changes to their company. While they may think they save money farming their support out to a call centre in India, they have chosen the wrong centre, or their quality control is bad. While their hourly costs may be lower than running support out of their home office, we suggest Adobe is paying more because the call centre takes so much time, and creates so many new problems. In fact, we do wonder if the reason the call centre people are so polite and constantly repeating and apologising is not cultural, but so they can keep the meter running longer. Memo to Adobe: You are being ripped off. Even if you don't care about your customers, your too-smart cost-cutters are losing you money. Better to provide high-quality tech support that knows what is wrong and finds the solution in minutes than wasting hours and days as happens now.
    It turns out that the support rep at Adobe gave us bad information and was about to propose more bad answers had we not become stroppy and demanded to speak to someone more competent. The support technician's next step was for us to:
    Load ID CS5 on another windows PC
    If the software worked on that PC either call Microsoft (yeah right) or
    Delete and reinstall Windows 7 Pro
    They did not volunteer any more than step 1, but having lost patience with their erroneous advice in the prior round, we pressed for what they would recommend next, since in fact the CS5 products had been working fine on the main desktop until they started telling us to start deleting and reinstalling things. On a complex multi-application computer, deleting and reinstalling Windows is not a simple matter, it usually results in downtime of three days and invariably important programs are reset, losing customisation that has been done over time. Our team concluded that rather than do this, if there was no other solution, we would trash CS5 and either go back to CS4 or purchase an Apple desktop solely to handle InDesign. Therefore, instead of continuing down this line of blind nonsense, we demanded to speak to someone who spoke better English, had a better phone connection and knew more than to tell us to keep damaging our systems.
    Finally, we got a call back from a more informed 1st tier support rep who goes by the nickname Sonny. For some reason the connection was far better, and we could understand every word of his much better English. It turns out that the Adobe support rep had walked us through the delete and recovery procedure and omitted a key step. This was only learned by pressing Sonny hard, until he realised the missing step. The prior rep walked us through the following support process and only told us to call back after we had begun step 5.
    Deactivate the CS5 Master Collection,
    Download and Unzip Creative Suite Cleaner Tool
    Create a new User ID with Administrator Level authority and sign on to it
    Close all programs and run the Cleaner Tool
    Reinstall CS5
    Download the updates (which is a problem when one is on a 10gb cap broadband plan)
    Of course, this did not fix the problem we had called about (manuscript kept crashing ID), but additionally the Links Pallet was completely missing as was the Edit Original right click function which made managing images in a manuscript impossible.
    When we reviewed this with Sonny, he finally identified the missing step. Before Step 4, running the Cleaner Tool, run the Microsoft Control Panel Uninstall Program to remove all the programs. Then run the cleaner tool to find files that Microsoft missed. Finally, after Step 4, add an additional step of manually looking at the files using File Manager to make sure all files were cleaned out and gone. When all this is done, go to Step 5 reboot and reinstall.
    Well the reboot took about 15 minutes as all sorts of orphan files came up, but when all was reinstalled, the InDesign functioned as it was supposed to function. The links pallet and edit orginal image was back where they belonged.
    The only thing we discovered is that when we went to email, eleven years worth of emails had vanished. We are now in correspondence with the email support team (thankfully, we use a commercial product, not a free one) to see if these can be recovered. It appears the Cleaner cleaned out more than Adobe. Oops, sorry about that. Argh!
    So what have we learned?
    The original problem appears to have been a corrupted file. Since this was a 275 page manuscript, it was not something that could easily be given up. We called Adobe hoping to figure out why the application program was crashing. This was never answered. It would crash when we ran spell check and it would crash when we tried to export it to an IDML file. This is a deficiency in the Adobe product that it allows this. Adobe never addressed this, or identified this.
    It was only when we started doing our own trouble shooting while waiting for Adobe to call back after they trashed the delete and restore application, that we realised we were being supported by ignorant technicians who appear to have little understanding of their products, very poor communications technology (it's hard to understand them due to a low quality line and in some cases a strong Indian accent), and whose "solutions" were to remove and reinstall their products. In this solution approach, the support technicians don't always get the steps right, with the outcome that the "solution" does not work.
    At this point, we realised we were in worse shape than when we made the original call. So we searched our files to find the most recent IDML backup that did work, imported it and then took pdf printouts to re-enter all the changes to the manuscript since that backup was made. We hope we located all the differences between the two drafts. This of course is a manual process and what we sought to avoid by calling Adobe in the first place, but we realised that the Adobe support was going to take more time than clerical re-work. Thus we ended up with a repaired manuscript - no thanks to Adobe, and a newly defective application program where their next "solution: was to trash the operating system.
    At no time did the technician ask the key questions to review what they might have done or not done that could have caused the problem. In other words, Adobe does not run a technical support line, but a trash and rebuild line. They waste hours of their own call centre time, not to mention the client time, creating further problems, call centre hours that we presume Adobe must pay for.
    That we must listen very carefully to what the technician says back, since over 50% of the time, they do not understand. When the record is read back, it is wrong (they wrote down that ID crashed on opening... never true).
    That it is not impolite to ask them to stop wasting time with very long apologies as the opening of every sentence.
    That it is essential that you have the customer identity information in the right order, so they do not spend 10 minutes verifying who you are.
    That it is not impolite to tell them to stop filling the air with nonsense and either answer the questions or get someone who can.
    That it is not inappropriate to threaten to document the call and file a formal complaint with Adobe.
    So for anyone who uses Adobe Help:
    Demand someone who can speak clear English on a clear phone connection. Write down their name and location so they can be tracked.
    Write down every step they propose and ask what is the next step if it fails to achieve the desired outcome.
    Demand that each step be written down in their documentation as well.
    Demand to know every custom file such as preferences and language dictionaries and their location. Make copies outside of Adobe so the cleaner file does not delete them. A folder on the desktop is the safest.
    When it becomes clear the technician does not have a clue what they are doing, demand to speak to their boss.
    Document every step here on this forum, so when they ask how they did, refer them to the public record.
    Thanks to Peter Spier and Jongware for their attempts at solutions. Turned out it was a corrupt file that would have been a disaster had we not made backups and a defective Adobe technical support system that threated to trash our whole operation.
    Bravo for persisting, insisting, asserting, relying on your own intelligence as you realized you were being not only ill-served, but wrongly-served and unforgivably-destructively-served. Sorry to hear how your own civility kept you from acting protectively sooner.
    I agree about escalating cases to the highest-level support manager ASAP as you discover incompetent support. I've written about this in a few posts that you can find with this Google search link: InDesign knowhow pro escalate support. I usually offer "I don't mean to be rude, but if you're not expert with this issue..." or I substitute "...aren't able to read the case notes and have expertise," and similar phrases, THEN I PRESS FOR ESCALATION, EVEN IF I NEED TO BE RUDE TO GET IT.
    However, with the increasing complexity of the stuff we use, and, as in your example, it takes a few days to rebuild a system, don't be lulled by the concurrent increased confidence you get from smarter hardware and software. I suggest cloning working systems for backups in disasters like you're reporting. Don't overwrite stored clone backups with unproven current systems that may have unbeknownst to you just gone bad. Consider virtual software like VMware Fusion or Parallels, even if you're committed to Windows; you can install one or more virtual Windows systems on a real Windows system, make snapshots and revert to them if needed. I think these are more robust than Windows Restore Points, because snapshots track everything done on the virtual drive, whereas restore points only undo the Registry, IIRC, so corrupted user files remain corrupt, lost files remain lost.
    IOW, practice safe computing.
    I heard of a business professional who sued his doctor for time lost when he was kept waiting for an extremely long period with no explanation, offer to reschedule, etc. (IOW, he got "airline treatment.") Whether he collected isn't the point so much as the recognition of the concept, and the corresponding smart pro-customer-service steps taken across many industries and companies. Whether defensive or pro-active, better customer service is better for everyone in chain of relationships.

  • I put a case on my iPod touch 5 and now there is no sound coming from the speaker.  The head phones work though.  I called Apple Support and the 2 people I spoke with seemed baffled.  Has this happened to anyone and how do I resolve this?

    I put a Griffin case on my daughter's iPod Touch 5 and now there is no sound coming from the speaker.  There is sound when we use the headphones.  Is there a mute function that I may have switched on and if so how do I turn it off?
    It was a gift bought by her Godparents in January and I live in the islands so I can't just drive it back to the store to have them look @ it!
    Called Apple Support and spoke to 2 people who seemed baffled and who could only suggest I reset the device.  Who h has not helped.
    HELP!!!!!!!

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
    Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
    Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
    All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
    Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

    Hi Erika,
    I came to Lightroom quite recently (in the last month!)  from Photoshop Elements 11. I like the organization features in LR better, but for adjustments such as the ones that you mentioned I would leave LR and go back to Photoshop Elements 11, primarily because that is what I know. I don't use the subscription service, mainly because I already owned and installed the boxed version of Photoshop Elements 11 and adding it to a subscription service with Lightroom seemed redundant. I am sure someone in the community will (or has) comment(ed) that it is possible to whiten teeth and cure blemishes within LR, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet. Check out the TV Adobe free tutorials, particularly Julianne Kost's tutorials. She has a good presentation style and you might find the LR answer that you need with detailed instructions.

    I had the same thing happen to me.  It's a bug in iPhoto 9.4.2.
    The first time you run iPhoto after upgrading to iPhoto 9.4.2, it "updates the iPhoto library".  This sometimes tickles a bug where iTunes can see all your iPhoto albums, but iTunes thinks they are empty.  Since iTunes thinks all your albums are empty, it dutifully deletes any photos from your synced iOS devices.
    It's easy to tell if this is the problem you are seeing.  Open iTunes and go to the photos sync panel for one of your iOS devices.  If you have multiple albums checked, but iTunes shows a total of 0 photos, then you have the problem.
    I spent an hour with an Apple Genius.  he couldn't find any mention of this problem in their internal support system.  His recomendation was to reinstall the operating the system.  I suspect that this won't solve it.
    The only solution I have found is to restore iPhoto 9.4.1 and the corresponding iPhoto library from your backups.
    I would refrain from upgrading to iPhoto 9.4.2 until Apple has a fix for this issue.

  • Beginner question - Can't read nor write a file using NetBean...

    Hi ,
    I'm a beginner java programmer, I got trouble when it comes to read or write a file program..
    I tried 3 programs and all of them can't read the file I want to read, eventhought I have put the txt file in the same folder with my source code.
    here is the source code I got from some site
    import java.io.*;
    class FileReadTest {
    public static void main (String[] args) {
         FileReadTest f = new FileReadTest();
    f.readMyFile();
    void readMyFile() {
    DataInputStream dis = null;
    String record = null;
    int recCount = 0;
    try {
    File f = new File("mydata.txt");
    FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(f);
    BufferedInputStream bis = new BufferedInputStream(fis);
    dis = new DataInputStream(bis);
    while ( (record=dis.readLine()) != null ) {
    recCount++;
    System.out.println(recCount + ": " + record);
    } catch (IOException e) {
    // catch io errors from FileInputStream or readLine()
    System.out.println("Uh oh, got an IOException error! " + e.getMessage());
    } finally {
    // if the file opened okay, make sure we close it
    if (dis != null) {
         try {
    dis.close();
         } catch (IOException ioe) {
    I also have tried another from book , both of them give the same result, can't read the file...
    Please help me with this...
    Thank you very much

    To start with use the full path to the file
    i.e. File f = new File("c:\\the\\full\\path\\to\\your\\file\\mydata.txt"); // Assumes a Windows platform using the C drive
    Then check to make sure you fiel exists e.g. System.out.println("File exists = " + f.exists());
    You can even test to see if the file is readable but since you created the file this porbably is not required.

  • Why can't I get actions to work? BAFFLED

    Hi, I'm a graphic designer, really not up to speed in the web world. I made myself an idiosyncratic little website using edge animate, learning from the built it lessons (I would appreciate any feedback concerning as I'm stumbling around here, if anyone can be bothered )
    I wanted to add an email link to the end of it, also, some kind of 'skip to the end' feature that appears from the beginning, and eventually a link to a portfolio site. But I can't get ANY actions to work.
    However, when I make a new file, I can do all these things. I can draw a rectangle, and make it clickable so that it jumps to the end, or opens an external site. It does this as expected, when I 'preview in browser'. But my main animation that I've spent hours mucking around with, does nothing. Mouse clicks do absolutely nothing...
    So, I'm baffled, and any help would be appreciated greatly.
    Here's my site, its a simple html thing with the edge animation embedded. I'd never offer these services for a client, but I thought I might be able to cobble something together for myself. As I said, any feedback would be welcome, as I'm stumbling around a bit. Ok a lot.

    thank you!

    Thanks!
    I'll past the code below, but actually it think this eror relates to a symbol I created when I was trying to get an email link working, and I forgot to delete it. Though it didn't work, I'm not sure it has much to do with WHY I couldn't get actions to work in the first place, as nothing else I tried, very simple things like a link to an external webpage worked either. Yet they did when I attempted it with a new animate project. Not sure.
    the whole project is here as a zipped file.
    http://www.antenna.net.nz/animatebafflement/published.zip
    and here is that code as mentioned. And thanks for your help!
    (function($,Edge,compId){var Composition=Edge.Composition,Symbol=Edge.Symbol;
    //Edge symbol: 'stage'
          Symbol.bindElementAction(compId, symbolName, "${_arrow}", "click", function(sym, e) {
             // insert code for mouse click here
             sym.stop();
    (function(symbolName){
    })("stage");
       //Edge symbol end:'stage'
       //=========================================================
       //Edge symbol: 'Symbol_1'
       (function(symbolName) {
          Symbol.bindElementAction(compId, symbolName, "${_email}", "click", function(sym, e) {
             // insert code for mouse click here
             var emailer = window.open("mailto:[email protected]?subject=Are you my designer?");// sym.$("name") resolves an Edge Animate element name to a DOM
          //Edge binding end
       })("Symbol_1");
       //Edge symbol end:'Symbol_1'
    })(jQuery, AdobeEdge, "EDGE-20179367");

    My computer has been spontaneously restarting itself.  This last time I wasn't even at the keyboard, I was across the room.  I don't know what to make of it, completely baffled.  I'd love some help on this, and if it could come in layman's terms I'd love it even more.

    Hi ...
    Try Troubleshooting the MagSafe adapter
    If the Mac freezes, it may be a preference setting.
    Check System Preferences > Energy Saver
    See if Restart automatically if the computer freezes is selected. If it is, deselect that box.
