Beginner question - Creating a simple flight info application

Hi All,
I've just started learning ABAP Web Dynpro and have completed the exercise to create the sflight application.

so far so good...
I then added a button on the display view to take the application back to the search view, again this worked ok. But i then noticed that when I click on the search button again the 'GETFLIGHTS' method is no longer called and the display screen always displays the data from the first seach. (I have checked in de-bugging and the method is only called the first time the search is initiated).
Any help most appreciated.

This is becuase this application uses a supply function. The supply function is only fired by the framework when an invalidated or initial node is accessed. Quickly studying the tutorial, in a real application I probably wouldn't follow this structure of using a supply function for this very problem. You would need to invalidate the context node on the navigation plug in order to get the supply funciton to fire again.
I think this is just a very simplist example that was designed to demonstrate the basic techniques and wasn't really designed for multiple navigations back and forth. Probably best to learn what you can from this tutorial and then move on to more advanced ones.

Beginner question: creating my own virtual instruments from samples

Hi, I have a beginner question. I'd like to make a click-track, but I want to use my own sounds, either recorded or from the internet. Can I do this with Logic Express 7, or do I need Logic Pro 7 and the EXS24?

I think you can do it, but it might be a pain.
You could import a sample of a single click and just paste it into every beat on the Arrange Page.
Other than that, you might need the sampler included with Logic Pro

Step by step instructions to create a Simple PCUI Application

I am very new to PCUI and have been trying to get a simple application up and running for the last few days. There always seems to be some problem or the other. At times it gives a dump, at times it gives me a screen without the search request or search result area and when i get all of these done, my application just does not invoke the Query method.
I would appreciate it if you could give me Step by Step instructions to create a simple PCUI application to search for some data from an existing database table and display it.

Help needed in creating a simple paint application

I want to create a simple paint application using swings in java, i am able to draw different shapes using mouse but the problem is when i select some other shape it simply replaces the already drawn object with the new one but i want the already drawn object also, like appending, what should be done for this, any logic missing here or i should use some other approach?

Hi U,
Tomcat is only JSP/Servlet container -- no EJB support.
Easiest is to download the Netbeans 6.1 bundle including Glassfish and JavaDB, thats all you need + JDK and Java EE of course.
Glassfish has both web/JSP/Servlet-container and EJB-container, so Tomcat is not needed then.
( If for some reason you really want to use Tomcat, you can use it together with OpenEJB for example, to add EJB-support. )

Beginner question about granting access rights

Hi, am a total beginner, just a very simple question. I have created a number of tables with my admin account that I would like user accounts to be able to see (they should only be allowed to see these few tables)
I then created a user account called EDWARD with just the basic connect access right (I don't want them to be able to create/delete tables etc, just to be able to query the tables I have created above and to add rows to these tables)
Google searching has lead me to the grant statement, so I tried this from the admin account:
grant select, update, insert on CUSTOMERS to EDWARD;
This statement executes correctly but when I log in the EDWARD account I cannot do any of these things, instead I get the error: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
Any ideas?

Yes, this is what I would advise, since SYSTEM (like SYS and several others...) is not user like other, it's better do not work and create object under this one. Keep it for Oracle administration usage only, not for application administration, create your own schema for this.

i have a simple question or maybe it's not so simple.
I am completly new to SAP Netweaver 2004s Portal. At the moment i'm trying to understand the struture of the whole thing. I already know how to create roles, worksets and pages and i know how to combine the different elements so a user can acces them.
And now i want to create a simple portal page that shows text and images. Is it possible to create such a simple page with the portal content studio? What iView do i have to use?
(I just want to create a start page with a welcome text on it.)

Considering that you would any ways go ahead with complex development from this simple start page I recommend create a Web dynpro Iview for your start page (include the Iview in your page).
For putting the contents use Netweaver Developer studio to build a simple start page application and put your static text on that Iview.

Create The Extension Segment
Transaction: WE31
The first step in extending an IDoc is to create the new segments that will go into that IDoc. There are some rules that you need to follow when creating the segments:
- The name of each segment type must start with Z1
- For each field in the segment you need to define a field name and a
data element.
- The data element for the segment structure must be of data type CHAR.
How to create new segments:
Run the segment maintenance transaction WE31.
Type your new segment name, and click on Create.
Define the fields of your segment:
Field name
Data Element for the field (from the ABAP dictionary).
Do not change the Export length!
Save the segment
Run Segment -->Check to check the segment for consistency.
Release the segment for transport. Select Edit -->Set Release. Note that the Release column now has a check mark.
Create the Extension IDoc Type
Transaction: WE30
After you create the segments to be added to the extension type, you can create the extension type itself. Execute transaction WE30, enter the extension name, select Extension type, and click Create. You now have three options:
Create new type: Does not refer to other extension types
Create copy: Copies info from an extension type that already exists
Create successor: Extends an extension type from a previous release
of R/3. You can only have one version of an extension type for
each release.
Enter the Basic IDoc type that this extension type will extend.
The screen now shows the structure of the IDoc type you used as
a reference.
Position the cursor on one of the segments and click Create. This will insert an extension segment as a child of the selected segment.
NOTE: A segment cannot appear more than once in an IDoc type! You must control the use of duplicate segments with the segment attributes (the next screen).
The segment attribute screen appears. Enter the information and save.
Extension segments should not be mandatory (for future upgrades), and will need to have minimum and maximum number of instances defined. This answers the question, for each instance of the parent segment, how many instances of the child segment may we have?
You can press the Segment Editor pushbutton to view or change the segment definition.
Create the new Message Type
You can only use an extension IDoc type by assigning it to a message type. You can create a new message type for this.
First the message type itself needs to be created.
Transaction: WE81
Create a new entry and save. Use SAP established customer naming conventions (good form is to start with a Z and retain the rest of the related SAP message type, so, for example, MATMAS becomes ZMATMAS).
After creating the message type, associate it with the corresponding Basic IDoc Type and Extension Type. This relationship is used when IDocs are sent to or received from a partner to determine what segments are valid and what the hierarchy for those segments is.
Transaction: WE82
Create a new entry and enter the Message type, Basic IDoc type, Extension type, and Release, and save your data. Note: the release assignment is not valid for prior SAP releases.
One message type can be associated with many basic IDoc types; however, you need a one-to-one relationship for distribution via ALE.

I'm facing the same issue as user#####.
Your workaround does not work ; when I deploy manuelly the ear file, with a new weblogic-application.xml, I get the same error.
Does that happen a lot ? :p

Creating an Applet from an Application

So i'm developing my own version of the '80s Space Invader game for class, and one of the requirments is that we have to turn in an application, but also post an Applet version on a website. The game is pretty much done, but I am having trouble creating the Applet from the Application. I've done most of the stuff that i thought you were supposed to do. The thing is, it will run whenever i use the appletviewer from the dos prompt just like it does when i'm running the application. However, when Ii try to view it in an actuall explorer window, it wont load.
The way the program was designed, it had a "SpaceInvaders" class that had the main method, which only had about 4 lines. Then i had a DrawFrame class that extended JFrame, and that had the bulk of the code in it. The main method of the SpaceInvaders class had a "DrawFrame frame = new DrawFrame();" statement, and then a couple set.whatever statements. to change it to an applet, i just commented out the whole of the SpaceInvaders class, then i renamed the DrawFrame class to "public class SpaceInvaders extends JApplet" changed the consructor to the "init()" method, and commented out the setSize and setTitle statements, and also i imported java.applet.*;
when i try to run the html file in firefox, all i get is the frame with a little red 'X' in it, and at the bottom it says "Applet SpaceInvaders notinited"
any help, ideas, or tips would be greately appreciated. Thanks in advance, and if you need any more info, let me know.

Beginner Question

Hello all, hopefully I have posted this to the correct LiveCycle board!
I'm new to Acrobat and LiveCycle in general. I'm working out of windows LiveCycle Designer 8.x and my question is as follows....
I'm working off of the "Quote" Form Template and what I am looking for is a way to make the rows of the Table expand as needed. I will be converting this Template into a "Purchase Order" form, and there will be many occassions where I will need to increase the table rows - perhaps onto a second or even third page - due to the volume of different items I will be seeking prices on at a given time.
Long story short I would like to take this "QUOTE" form template and make it such that if needed, I can expand the table size one row at a time, pushing the content beneath (Comments, subtotal, etc) onto the next page....
Hoping I have explained my query well enough, Could anyone provide me a solution or point me in the correct direction?

For the sake of hypotheticals I am creating a dynamic PDF form. This pdf is a Purchase Order Form, with a table in the Body that will expand/contract as the form user needs. (EXA- Default table size is 5 items, however user is creating an order for 12 items, he/she can increase the table rows to desired capactiy.) It will be a very simple layout. All data for the form will come from manual entry, no XML data binding going on.
My new question is as follows:    Is there a way I can have this user's Adobe reader or Adobe acrobat software remember previous data entries, so that if 4 weeks after ordering widget X he/she needs to place another order for widget X, the software will autofill the table as he/she types into the table cell?
This would be similar to how Excel will start to autofill if it recognizes a previously entered value from some other cell in the worksheet (workbook?)

NEWBIE - creating a simple JSP login page

Hi guys,
I am really really stuck, and I would be so grateful if you guys could help me in any way. I am creating a simple application, but as part of the application i have to create a login / logout sub-application. It needs to verify the username and password by looking up a database in mySQL. I've had a look around on the internet to see if there is any simple way of doing it, but i can't understand most of it. I'm really new to JSP and only know how to do simple statement like <c:choose> and stuff like that. If anyone can help me in any way to create as simple a login / logout application that verifies the username and password from a database, I would be ever so grateful, thank you!

i am still a jsp noobie but i have done some applications using html javascript php asp and other languages. What you want to do is take the data from the login form then compare that to the db see if it actually exist and has the correct info. From there you want to write a cookie to the users computer to hold the username and password, which will be checked for at the begining of every page verifying it in the database. This is how i have done password verification in the past and it works fairly well and unless your server gets hacked your pages should be secure.

Beginner question: Can I apply one formula to all cells in a column?

I'm new to spreadsheets, so apologies for asking what is probably a very simple question.
I want to apply a formula that divides the values in one column (W) by values in another (AX) for a table containing 3000 rows, and outputs the result for each row into the appropriate cell in the new column I've created.

Besides Numbers '09 Help there are two other useful resources available in the Help menu: the Numbers '09 User Guide and iWork Formulas and Functions Help.
For "Beginner questions," my first choice would be the User Guide. For the specific question you asked, a quick scan of the chapter on "Using Formulas and Functions" (pp 83-96) will provide some useful information. Start in the neighborhood of page 93.

Creating a simple ApplicationServer

Hi All,
I am facing a problem in which I need your expertise for the resolution. Any suggestions, ideas are welcome.
I have the following set-up:
1. I have to make a search-engine; this is not a web-based application.
2. There shall be a Swings-based client.
3. The client will collect all the parameters on which the search will be made. These parameters will be given by the client who wants to make a search operation.
4. The parameters will need to be sent to the search-engine. This means search-engine will be an application that will listen to a particular port on which the client will send the request.
How to approach:
I think that what we can do is that:
1. We can create a simple server that uses ServerSocket to listen to a specified port.
2. Server will maintain a ThreadPool for processing the requests.
3. The client can collect the input given by the user can place them in an Object. This Object can further be serialized and sent to the server using ObjectOutputStream.
4. Server will spawn a thread and create the object back using ObjectInputStream. Once the object is created, the parameters given by the user will be known. The search can be made now.
5. Ouput of the search will again be an Object will be sent to the client.
Query:
1. Is there a better way to transmit the request to the server i.e. is RMI a better option or are there any other mechanism that can be used to send the (search-related) parameteres from the client to the server?
2. Is there a third-party API / tool there to support the functionality of the server?
3. Is there a third-party API to support the functionality of the ThreadPool?
If you have any resolutions to the above problem, please share them.

JayI'm sorry you feel demotivated, but it would be doing you a dis-service to lead you to believe that you can knock out an application server on your own. It's nobody's intent to make you feel stupid, or demotivated, or anything. Equally, it's nobody's intent to make you think you can do something you can't. Generally, the answers you get here from regulars are pragmatic, honest and to the point. Often, that means you get an answer you didn't expect, or don't want, but that's just the way the forum - and life in general - works. There's often a disparity between our desires and actual results
If this is a homework question, you need to approach your tutor and ask him to qualify what he means by "application server", unless that's just a term you've decided to use yourself, in which case, I reckon you've been asking the wrong questions. Did he specifically say "application server"? Re-reading your original question, I'm unconvinced that an "application server" is what was asked for
